We couldn't decide what to have for lunch, and as it got later, I mentioned that a simple steak sounded good. To my surprise, my husband suggested King Ranch. I was shocked because it's been over a year since our last visit, and I wouldn't exactly call it a "simple steak" spot--but I was all in. Some people may think King Ranch is too fancy or expensive because it's near the Galleria, but don't let that stop you from trying it. Prices depend on what you order, just like any other steakhouse. The restaurant has a rustic ranch-style atmosphere, and anyone familiar with the Ford King Ranch edition will recognize the signature branding throughout. It wasn't busy when we arrived, and we were seated right away. I started with an Old Fashioned made with Woodford Reserve, complete with a hint of orange, bitters, and two Luxardo cherries. It was perfect. For an appetizer, we ordered the smoked brisket queso with chips. The brisket wasn't overly smoky and paired nicely with the queso, pico de gallo, and cilantro. The real standout, though, was the chips. They had a flavorful seasoning that took them to the next level. For his entrée, my husband ordered The Plate, which includes your choice of two or three meats along with slaw, onions, pickles, 7-Spice fries, and cowboy beans. He chose smoked turkey, smoked chicken, and sausage. The turkey and chicken were well-seasoned, juicy, and not overly smoky. The sausage had a great peppery flavor, and the cowboy beans were loaded with brisket, adding even more richness. The fries were delicious, but if you're not a fan of coleslaw touching them, ask for it on the side. As for me, I ordered the Tomahawk on the Block Ribeye, cooked medium rare, with grilled asparagus, chimichurri, and grilled mushrooms. Yes, I know I said I wanted a simple steak for lunch, but this was my version of simple. The tomahawk was cooked perfectly--tender, juicy, and full of rich beef flavor. It practically melted in my mouth. It didn't need steak sauce, but the chimichurri and grilled mushrooms were the perfect complement. They were so good that I ended up ordering another side. If you've been hesitant to try King Ranch, don't be. It's a great choice for lunch, dinner, celebrations, or simply when you're craving an excellent steak. read more

I visited this restaurant for my birthday, and unfortunately, the staff was not very welcoming toward my husband and me. When we entered, we were not greeted, and the woman at the front simply seated us without any friendly interaction or acknowledgment. The filling was fine, but the fried batter was too thick for my taste. The blackened fish was disappointing. It was extremely buttery and not cooked evenly. The ends were flaky, but the center was tough and undercooked. The green beans were delicious and cooked perfectly. The briskets were the worse we had in all the place we ate. Meat was so chewy that at the 1st bite , we already didn't want to eat more. The ambiance of this restaurant is fun and inviting. However, the bar area is the standout portion of the restaurant. Unfortunately, happy hour is excluded to the bar. The wait staff exhibited a good attitude and willingness to go above and beyond. Unfortunately, I cannot say the same for management. The prime rib chili arrived cold which created a lot of concern. When they brought it back out it was hot. I wanted clarification on how they reheated the chili. Hence the request for a manager. I was informed it was pulled from the top of the pot which was cold and the kitchen went back and pulled from the bottom but I'm not confident that was the case. As far as quality, the entire food selection shares an uncanny similarity to Saltgrass Steakhouse. It is almost indistinguishable from one another. Unfortunately, there is clearly a disconnect between the chefs and the rest of the restaurant. The three of us ordered the largest filets on the menu at a medium rare temp. The steak arrived with light grill marks, the temp was close but a little under. However, it severally lacked in depth and flavor. It was simply bland and unevenetful. I took a fair amount home, let it rest to room temperature, added some sea salt and a moderate amount of algae oil then placed it on a hot cast iron skillet for 2min on each side. The flavor improved dramatically resulting in a nice crispy crust with a warm medium rare center. This is what I expected from the restaurant. I don't believe they used any salt during the prep process. If they did it was unnoticeable. This indicated to me the quality of the food is fine but the execution in the kitchen is lacking dramatically. For this reason it is unlikely I will return as it did not live up to the $350 bill we incurred during our visit. read more

Master Cowboy Gabe is fantastic!!!!!! Walking in King Ranch and being greeted by this King Cowboy felt like I was in a western Hollywood movie. Gabe delivered style, grace, and country southern hospitality with the best memorable service. My birthday boy enjoyed the shredded beef sandwich. Next time he'll know to request to hold the onions. The presentation was beautiful nonetheless. He really complimented the homemade 7season fries which were very good even though they are not crispy. They're great! Loved going to this TX concept restaurant. Everything was so delicious. The pineapple margarita was chef's kiss! We started with the brisket queso and bread basket. The queso was fabulous. I ordered the chicken fried steak with mashed potatoes. I also had the Brussels sprouts that were so tasty. For dessert my husband and I shared the pecan crème brûlée with peaches. It was so good! The restaurant itself had a welcoming atmosphere and it felt like a place we should try. We sat at the bar where Melvin was hands down one of the best bartenders we've ever had. Personally, I did not enjoy the sandwich at all because it was so dry and there was so much turkey piled on that it was hard to eat. I didn't understand why her ribeye was so thin, he'll the Roadhouse ribeyes are cut much thicker! However she enjoyed the baked potato she got. We are visiting from Hawaii. This is our third visit to Houston and we always make it a point to eat at King Ranch. The steak (food) is awesome. After using another one of my favorite apps to discover what restaurants were open on Easter Sunday,I came back to Yelp to see the reviews and decided on King Ranch Texas Kitchen. Reservations were made via Open Table, which were valid when my Mom and I arrived. In fact, we were a little early because my Pastor wanted to enjoy his Easter dinner too evidently,and had us out before noon! Taking my time driving there and not even getting on the highway, we arrived 15 minutes early for the reservation, but we were greeted and the hostess went to see if we could be seated early. Thanks for that because I was famished! The inside reminds me of Saltgrass, but a little more Texan. Since it is a Landry's affiliate (didn't find that out until the end of the meal), the look and feel of Saltgrass makes sense, but think Texas Tycoon Saltgrass. The waitstaff wear cowboy gear from head to toe. Maybe it was just for Easter- but hey it really partnered well with the aesthetic of the restaurant, which has a rustic, western feel. The menu reflects my description as you have some southern favorities like country fried steak and but also salmon dishes. Really, the vast menu items I saw online drew me into choose KRT. However, on Easter Sunday, there was a limited menu. I asked our server, Devon about this and he confirmed that the menu is limited to help the kitchen out since they have a Easter buffet they make available for patrons. I'm usually not a fan of buffets, but this one has every ranch animal you think of along with the creatures of the water! From prime rib to boiled shrimp and fried catfish to mac n cheese and green beans, this buffet has two rooms- one for the main entree choices and another for dessert. 50 plus bucks yes but an opportunity to taste everything from the KRT Menu, its worth a try! Boiled shrimp was probably my favorite because theywere HUGE- as big as my fist! Way worth the peeling, not too salty, clean, and juicy! I alao enjoyed the wedge salad, which was crisp and came with just enough drizzle of dressing. I tried the mac and cheese as well which was packed with cheese and a great compliment to the fried catfish, which could have been crispier but I think this was due to it not being served right away from the kitchen and laying in the buffet table. Once more, the green beans were seasoned to perfection, reminding me of my auntie Vs- and that's saying a whole lot! Somebody in KRT's kitchen knows how to throw doooown, and they wanted us to not leave a crumb when we left! The only negative is that you can't take leftovers from a buffet home. Sad face, but I still had a whole room to check out! I was pretty full after eating one plate (ops forgot about that plate of boiled shrimp lol) but I had to try the dessert room. Anything you could think of was lined up perched and ready for devouring by patrons. From cookies to cobblers, complete with ice cream, you could certainly satisfy you sweet tooth at this buffet! Once more, I loved that all the desserts were made by a local baker. Everything waa fresh and certainly tempting to try but with only 1 stomach that was already pretty full, I only could muster trying out the cheery cobbler, which was just okay to me. Not really a cherry cobbler fan, so my bias probably got to me, but the the chocolate chip cookies can never be turned down by me and it was delicious! My Mom's meal was exceptional as well from her feedback. She went with the chicken fried steak with mashed potatoes. I insisted she order another side to balance out the meal, so she decided on asparagus. She loved the freshness of the spears and they were seasoned quite well too. You can't do potatoes wrong unless you really try, but she received a glob of them that made for a great doggy bag compliment to her chicken fried steak that she at half of. It too was huge in portion size and thankful, not overly coated with breading and allowed the steak to shine as it was tender and could be cut with a fork. This was a great little restautant away from the hustle and bustle of The Galleria Mall,,but close enough to the area in case its your hood and you don't want to venture too far out. For me, I would certainly come.back just to access the normal business hour menu and ensure the food quality matches what was presented on Easter Sunday, but certainly a great find to Yelp about! I was sat without having to wait which is always a plus dining in Houston on the weekend. Our server was super sweet and very attentive! The restaurant itself was nice, clean, and not loud inside. I ordered an Espresso Martini, definitely on the stronger side 7/10. The South Texas Quail is the perfect starter, something about the sauce is addicting! The quail was cooked perfectly and I wouldn't have changed anything about it 12/10 so so good! I got the Country Fried Chicken and Crispy Brussel Sprouts as my entrée and it was okay. when planning my Houston trip, the restaurant stood out to me because it's a local steakhouse with an impressive happy hour. We took seats at the bat and ordered brisket taquitos with pico, queso fresco, picked onions, and a little guacamole. Excellent. We also had the French dip sliders with caramelized onions. Two might not be a lot, but they were really good as well. Mom was full but not me, I had a bowl of prime rib chili. Excellent flavor, super meaty, just a little touch of spice. All I needed was some oyster crackers or some cornbread. But the highlight was dessert. The pecan pie was probably the best I've ever had. It was served in a hot cast iron skillet. The warm butter flaky crust...I couldn't get enough of it. Plenty of pecans in the goo with a scoop of vanilla ice cream and a caramel drizzle on top. My fiancé and I have been here 3 times and we have ordered carry out twice. We are addicted to their bread baskets. We really loved this place until our most recent visit. We were celebrating our anniversary and chose to sit outside. We wanted to be alone and be able to enjoy each other's company. We were seated, got our drink orders, and then our waitress went back inside. We got caught up in conversation when she came back with our drinks we ordered a bread basket. She said she'd put it in for us. We continued talked and more time went by. It was 25 minutes before we got our bread basket and then an additional 30 before we saw our waitress (a runner brought our basket out). We had been sitting at the table for an hour at this point and still hadn't ordered our food. We realized that we had been forgotten. Our waitress reappears to take our order and ask if we needed more drinks. I just ask for water and order my food and my fiancé does the same. We never received water, and our food was brought out by a runner, again. Our waitress didn't reappear again until our food was gone to ask "how everything was". We had steaks, if one of them was cooked incorrectly, it would have been cold but the time she came back. I really hate to give a lower rating because we really do love this place, but they chose the wrong visit to miss. It was our anniversary, we didn't even stay for dessert because we knew it'd add an hour. The young girl waiting on us, even asked us to review her. We went to King Ranch Texas Kitchen for a late lunch today and I'm having mixed emotions. Upon arrival, we waited a few minutes before someone came to the front to sit us. I maybe wouldn't have noticed but we arrived around 4p and the restaurant was pretty empty. I was just thinking maybe they didn't see us. As soon as we were set, our server took our drink order. I ordered sparkling water. The server brought me out a plastic bottle on San Pellegrino. No ice, no glass and no limes. Just a plastic bottle of San Pellegrino. That was the 1st time that I've ever been served Pellegrino that way in a restaurant. I askes the server for a glass of ice and some limes and she quickly brought them out. No harm, no foul. She then took our order. We ordered a bread basket for an appetizer. It had two biscuits, two pretzel sticks and one good size piece of cornbread. We both loved the biscuits (I just wasn't a fan of the butter. I like regular butter and this was like a cinnamon butter.), we both liked the pretzel sticks, but the cornbread... eh... it really wasn't that good. It kind of tasted like it was cooked in old bacon grease. I dont know if that was the case. It just tasted like that to me. For our meals I ordered the Chicken Fried Steak and mashed potatoes with the gravy on the side. I also order a side salad with Thousand Island dressing. The salad came out first and it was GREAT. Loved how they mixed the dressing into the salad for me. Sadly, the chicken fried steak and the mashed potatoes were a huge let down. The steak was tough and the breading wasn't all that good. My fiance ordered the BBQ platter and chose two meats. He opted for the brisket and the sausage. When it came out it had pickles, onions, slaw, potato salad, green beans (he subbed the fries for the green beans), BBQ sauce, sausage and RIBS. We let the server know that he had ordered brisket and not ribs, and she fixed it right away. I was able to taste the ribs and they were good, but just like any ribs that you'd get at a non BBQ restaurant. They were actually the best tasting thing that I ate. He said that his platter was ok. Not great and that he wouldn't order it again. I kind of felt bad because he wanted to order a burger and I talked him out of it. We ordered the butter pecan creme Brulee for dessert. It was also just ok. Our server however was very nice and attentive. I have zero complaints about her service. Everything that wasn't right, she was quick to correct it. My over all is... maybe we ordered the wrong items. I usually get better food at a Landry's restaurant... so it was... ummmm... different. Went to celebrate my father birthday. A family of 18 people . Once we got our appetizers, the restaurant lost power. When we receive our entree,we really couldn't enjoy our meal especially because we were starting to feel the Texas heat inside the restaurant. The power never came back, we couldn't use the restroom because of how dark it was. I didn't receive a steak knives with our steak entree. I would have understand if they were busy, but their were only around 4 tables in the restaurant. Out with the wifey after a big sibling meeting, and I suggested we try this place. First off the waiter starts you off with some really yummy bread. It's a basket filled with cornbread, biscuits and pretzel bread. It comes with a side of sweet butter. It was heavenly deliciousness! I was so happy we did! I got the two meat brisket and rib plate, which also comes with Vimeo and fries. While the brisket and ribs were not the best I've ever had, it's definitely in the top 5 I've had of all time. Celebrating a Friday with my husband at King Ranch Texas Kitchen on Post Oak. This restaurant has a cowboy down home Texas vibe. They have lots of tables and booths. They have a bar area and they also have covered outdoor seating. We went in for a late lunch which was perfect as the restaurant was not as crowded. We started off with a starter of "Brad's Crab Stack" which is Fresh Jumbo Lump Crab Salad, Avocado, Cilantro & Scallion Citrus Salad, Sriracha Aioli this was served with tortilla chips. This looked and tasted delicious!! We then had a house chopped salad. Followed by our main entrees which were the prime rib with sweet potato for husband and the fried shrimp with fries for me. This year, I decided to try a different restaurant that is included under Landry's to use my $25 birthday reward. I chose this location, and yes, I will go again. The only part that could be better is greeting. I stood in the front for 6 minutes before the hostess came to seat me. I saw the hostess near the bar with 3 other staff, and again, one of them could have at least said hi when I came in. Now on to the food and my waiter. Then, instantly, I changed my mind and took the martini because I like pumpkin spice. It was so good. Before he took my order, I asked him if he needed my phone number to get my birthday reward he said yes, and he kindly wished me happy birthday. I ordered the Salmon and Shrimp Brochette that came with jambalaya rice, I also ordered a side of brussel sprouts. The salmon, shrimp, zucchini, and squash were so tasteful and nicely flavored and grilled. The brussel sprouts were good and baked well. The jambalaya tasted more like rice pilaf, which was fine to me because sometimes jambalaya at other restaurants is a bit spicy. The waiter came to check if everything was good, and I asked for a to go box. He then surprisingly said, "Is today your birthday I told him it was actually last month, and he said, "That's okay. We will still give you a free dessert. That was so nice and made me happy, and I was able to get it to go. Landry's list this restaurant as an upscale fine dining, but it is more causal. The place we had originally stopped at left a lasting impression and we vowed to go back. Unfortunately, it wasn't King Ranch, but we were here, so we stayed. Atmosphere wise, this place was pretty nice and had a whole Texan vibe going. It looked and felt a bit more elegant than it seemed from outside. Being a meat place, the food was a bit on the pricy side, with some affordable lunch options. I ordered the Country Fried Steak, which usually has mashed potatoes, but I subbed for broccoli. It was around $15. The meat was a bit on the gristly side and the breading kept coming off whenever I cut into the meat. Honestly, it could have been better. Overall the food and prices were just ok. Service was good and the atmosphere was outstanding. I could see myself coming back for their Happy Hour. Might be worth a second visit to order something else. read more

The service was very good. We started with the queso dip which was super good. Everything after was disappointing. Got the platter of ribs, chicken and brisket. The brisket had good flavor but was dry, the chicken was extremely dry, the ribs were fall off the bone and did taste good but again they were also dry. The Mac and cheese was ok, could have been hotter. The fried shrimp was mediocre. Overall I rate the whole place as mediocre but we won't be going back. read more
