The pizza was great; fresh ingredients, homemade sauces, and generous portions. The unfortunate thing: they don't serve all their pizzas by the slice. They only have slices of a select few and my favorites did not make that list. I have to wait until they get listed as a special to try them out or I have to buy a whole pizza, just to try it. My son and I stopped in the other day while shopping, and the pizza itself was really good. This place is tiny with no tables but stands, so we took ours to go and found a place by the water wheel, down the block. It's an open common area with tables near the bookstore .We ordered ranch dressing to accompany our pizza. We love dipping the slice into the dressing, so perfect. I ordered a slice with Tomato, kale, red sauce and mozzarella. ( I can't find the name of this pizza on the menu ). My friend ordered the Maui Wowie, We opened the box to generous slices and found it to be one of the best crusts ever. The flavor was amazing, both of us agreed it was probably the best pizza we've ever had. Next visit I want to order a whole pie and eat until I can't eat anymore. There is no inside dine in seating it's more of a chill and then take it to go which is kinda fun. Honesty I heard amazing things about this place and my family loves it. However, on a more serious note the red sauce is just plain tomato sauce. There's no onion or garlic / Italian seasoning. The pizza was evenly/ nicely cooked. Just not really that intricate. This is a cute little hole in the wall pizza place. I came in here last week with a friend and we got two slices of their individual pizza which are only seven dollars. I got the Italian I think it was called, the pizza was so amazing my friend and I couldn't stop talking about how great it was through every bite. Also, I saw their whole pizzas are only around $35 which is amazingly reasonable considering how good they are, and the large actually looked like a large unlike many pizza places now. Terrible Experience - Accused of Stealing Over Their Own Mistake. I went in for dinner and ended up being accused of stealing pizza. I ordered a few slices and asked for ranch. The lady at the counter gave me my total, and I tapped my card on the terminal. I heard the beep, assumed it had gone through, and stood there for the next 30 seconds waiting for her to acknowledge the payment. She said nothing. I figured everything was fine. I waited about five minutes for my food, grabbed it, and walked outside. I wasn't even leaving--just standing further away, looking for my car keys--when the same lady ran after me, yelling aggressively that I hadn't paid. I went back in, she yelled the total at me again, and finally flipped the screen around so I could see it. I paid again and told her I was sorry--I genuinely didn't know the payment hadn't gone through. But she continued treating me like I'd tried to steal it. Here's the kicker: I was at this place a week earlier, and something similar happened. That time, I tapped my card, waited for her to acknowledge it, and eventually had to ask if it went through. She seemed annoyed, flipped the screen toward me. Clearly, this is not a one-off issue. I seriously encourage the place to check the security cameras. I did tap the terminal. The issue is with staff who are not trained (or too checked out) to handle it properly. If someone can't manage the register or track transactions, maybe someone else should be doing it. If you're just visiting, skip this place--there are better spots in Nevada City with friendlier, more competent staff. If you live here, respect yourself and go somewhere else. To the staff: please, train someone who actually understands how the payment system works. And stop pretending like you are from New York. Their attitude is authentic, yours is just pathetic. This was our first time checking out DT Nevada City and we were so impressed with the diversity and amazing gems we found up until we landed here for a quick bite before we braved the snow. We ordered three slices and when asked if we wanted a box we agreed because the 3 slices were a lot to hold for two people (they're delicious giant slices!) There were two other patrons eating there when we got there (also eating from a box) and during our time there there was one customer who came in for a pick up. We enjoyed our two slices and when I picked up the Grandma it was very cold. Since it's super thick I figured that's why. My husband asked if it was possible to heat it up after the fact, the staff member said no (which is totally understandable and not a problem). What she said after WAS a problem. She proceeded to cop up an attitude and say how we shouldn't even be eating in the restaurant and "a box usually means to go, ya know?" gesturing towards the door. I turned around and couldn't believe someone would talk to a paying patron like that, but especially given the weather and how we shared we were so excited to try some slices. We immediately picked up our things. I threw away the cold slice and crushed the large pizza box in half and carried it out with me (since there was a "no pizza box" sign at the trash can). Mind you, the two other patrons who had been eating there before us continued to eat there and were not asked to leave and/or given a hard time about eating from a box. This made the previously great outing a negative experience. Truly a rude staff member who has the opportunity with each guest to make a positive impact and chose to be rude and beyond inconsiderate. Not only will we will not be dining there again, we will definitely not be recommending this establishment to any one. If anything, we would discourage those we know from trying it. There's plenty of places to eat up there that know how to treat customers. The pizza is good, but definitely not good enough to have such a nasty staff member. read more

Ordered a large pepperoni pizza that was cooked well, not burnt and still soft. I would give 5 stars but the over abundance of pepperoni killed the mild flavor of the cheese.
