Came here as a recommendation from a barista in Marysville! We were heading on our way back home from Yuba City and decided to make a stop in Nevada City. This place was absolutely amazing! The atmosphere was cozy and the patio was beautiful! It's a beautiful older building that's been nicely renovated, but maintains its charm. The service was fantastic and our server was so sweet! She gave us great recommendations from their lunch special menu (great timing!) and both were delicious! My spicy noodles were well seasoned and cooked. Plenty of pieces of chicken and fresh mix of veggies. My friend's green curry was super fresh and flavorful! We both also agree the Tom Kha soup side was probably the best we've ever had! There is nothing worst than waking up the next day and regretting you didn't send the meal back. After some bad experiences with the food. We thought, mabye it will be better. It wasn't. The outside area is so nice and pretty and the people who work there are lovely. But, the food was so bad. We got the fresh spring rolls and all that was in there was lettuce. The pad thai was grey and honestly inedible. We didn't want to cause a scene so we didn't say anything. Once again...we won't be going back and this time for sure. So sad. read more

The rest of my family is more into Thai food than I am. I was not properly introduced at the right time in my food journey apparently. When we made an overnight trip to Nevada City recently, several in the multi-generational group of aunts / uncles / cousins / parents remarked that there was a Thai restaurant with good ratings. I was happy to see that they had an outdoor patio, so we made that our dinner spot. They pushed two tables together on the patio to fit our group of eight. The patio space feels like a secret garden grotto with beautiful landscaping and a cozy feel. The sound of gently rushing water made it all the more charming. Sitting at the back of the historic brick building with its sculpted metal railings reminiscent of New Orleans was a wonderful visual addition to the experience. The gracious greeting we received and the good service throughout complemented the delicious food. We ended up ordering family style and sharing, and that provided lots of different tastes and textures to sample. Since I'm pretty much a novice at knowing what to order at a Thai place, it was a foodie adventure for me. I loved the crab pad se-ew, shrimp rolls, and fresh spring rolls in particular. The "regular" rice was prepared in a sticky rice fashion, and the actual "sticky rice" side order was actually too dense for my preference, but it all got consumed anyway. I sampled several of the more adventuresome dishes that my brother ordered with level-3 spiciness and I could handle them in moderation. I don't handle spicy foods too well these days. They're very accommodating in asking about your heat level and creating the dishes accordingly. Our niece, whose university graduation we were celebrating was thrilled that they had mango sticky rice dessert made with coconut milk, since she can't handle dairy milk. We all got to sample the mango, as it was plentiful. All the portions were really generous. It was ultimately such a great experience that I'm craving more of that pad se-ew right now as I write this review. Guess I'll have to see what our local Thai restaurants have to offer. read more

The staff is so kind and accommodating but the food just doesn't back up the enthusiasm of the staff. We tried the combo appetizer, pork fried rice, and barbecued beef. Out of those items the only standout was the crab rangoon in the combo, great flavor and perfectly cooked. As for the friend rice and bbq'd beef, we were expecting a crust on the rice and char on the bbq beef. We got neither. Both dishes had the look and consistency of boiled meat, and both dishes were damp not charred or fried. The flavor was good on both but the beef was very salty. All in all we came away as impressed with the staff but not the food. read more

Authentic Thai food and amazing! Fresh and plentiful. They are beautiful interior and relaxing exterior. This is a destination place fur us now as we don't live in the area any more. I had a girls night out with some great friends. I knew this restaurant had new owners and wanted to try it. Between all of us we tried 6 different entrees. Every one of them were so good. This place is a gem in Nevada city. It's all Thai hospitality here. With the greeting and kindness of the staffs made my meal is wonderful. Parking is on street. They have patio for you to enjoy too. The chef and P' Nok are so kind to my mom as she ordered special dish that is not in the menu and they made it for us. We appreciate they cooked it for my mom. The plates her are so huge. Stopped in for dinner and were seated outside in the lovely garden area. Our party included pure vegans and absolute carnivores. Helpful server answered all our numerous questions regarding the menu. He even obliged taking our picture. Most meals were fresh and tasty. My granddaughter enjoyed vegan drunken noodles. I enjoyed some of the best chicken pad Thai I'd ever had. The sauce made the dish delightful and spiced to perfection. We also ordered yellow chicken curry. This dish was disappointing. The potatoes were undercooked and the sauce quite watery. The beef salad was great. Thin slices of beef mixed in a spicy dressing with fresh greens. The Panang curry was also ordered and met expectations with tender chicken and a sauce spiced perfectly. I really didn't expect to find great Thai food in Nevada city but this place was really good. Prices seem pretty normal but then when the dishes came, I realize that these are really good prices because the serving sizes are humongous and Rice is included. We ordered the barbecue chicken, which was delightful and the green curry with chicken, which was about two full servings And nice heat and perfect textures and spices. Surface was very slow, but extremely nice and accommodating I think it was slow because of the Victorian Christmas fair that's going on just had them mobbed. My boss picked up my belated birthday lunch today at my favorite place and it did not disappoint! It was fabulous and I felt like she got her money's worth as the portion was generous. Everything was so..........fresh! She noticed that the lunch crowd was lacking, though. This has always been our "go to" for special occasions and when ever we're craving it, so want it to be around for a very long time. I know there are lots of new places but this one is a keeper. Tasteless Thai Never had a Thai noodle dish so bland. Pad woonsen served without any sauce or flavors. No garlic no soy no salt no pepper Glass noodles were very dry and hard to chew. Dish included a little cabbage, carrot, mushroom. The typical Bean sprouts were absent. The only moisture was from the tomato. Dish was sautéed. The oil tasted off and the dish was oily. Came in on an early Sunday night during a holiday weekend. The restaurant was a little busy and the servers were rushing, but there were still plenty of empty tables. They were out of most beer choices so we ended with wine. We ordered the Tom Yum and spring rolls with prawns, the mango red curry, a spicy vegetable dish (Pad Phek?), and a green curry fried rice. We never received the fried rice. The dishes all came in a random order, the spring rolls arrived second to last. The spring rolls were pretty good, but they're the easiest thing to make; the sauces weren't that good. Every other dish was bland, even when we asked for a dish to be spicy. The curry tasted as if made with the Thai Kitchen brand curry paste you can find in the store, which is terrible. The Tom Yum came out Luke warm, served with a sterno that wasn't lit. The Tom Yum was over-seasoned with lime juice and under seasoned with spices. The only thing in the soup were some prawns, button mushrooms, and a couple cubes of tomatoes...that's it. Even the Pad Phrek was under-seasoned, despite it being spicier than the other dishes. Nothing had flavor, who were they making this food for? Geriatric people who think salt is too spicy? After no check-in from the wait-staff, no water refills, handing out the wrong check, we weren't even disappointed we never received the fried rice. I rarely have anything negative to say about any Thai restaurant I've ever been. It's my favorite cuisine. Maybe it is a different regional cuisine that Sopa offered, but I didn't care for it. One of my favorite dishes is Pad Kee Mao (aka, "Drunken Noodles") which I ordered. It came in a sauce that I could best describe as Thai sweet chili sauce. The Panang curry had no flavor, the green curry was better. To top it off they force a 15 percent tip on to go orders over $100. It was just salt on the wound. I got robbed of $175 the other night. 0$ tip is what was deserved. This is my last time going to or recommending Sopa Thai. I have been friends of Sopa Thai for 20 years. I was caught out with doing this on my phone and ended up placing an order with a restaurant across the country. I have asked Yelp to take the web URL down. The gals who took our to-go order were super nice (once I realized I had not placed an online order from them) and had our order ready when promised. What a disappointment. Three of us had dinner at Sopa recently and it was probably the worst meal I've in a very long time. It was a very warm night and we sat out in the very pleasant patio. Our server was very friendly and accommodating. We told him we'd like to have something cool and refreshing like spring rolls and lettuce cups for dinner. I would've thought a dish like lettuce cups would be fairly familiar to someone working at a restaurant, even if it's not an authentic Thai dish. Our server recommended a starter that was not a spring roll. It was Thia Toast which apparently had something pork on it on a piece of bread that was then deep-fried. It was awful. We each took one bite of the toast and left the rest in our plates. When he came to clear the plate he asked how it was and we said it was awful. No response or apology on his part, even though he had heartily recommended the dish. He also recommended a beef dish which he said was excellent and then he just had for dinner. And then they could do it with lettuce to wrap the meat in. When it came to the table the beef was so stringy and chewy it was inedible. Instead of serving lettuce they gave us pieces of cabbage which you can't put anything in. When the server came back to check we said the beef was terrible and it didn't work with the lettuce cup idea. He then proceeded to recommend Larb which he said was more minced and should fit our request. The dish was so salty and overseasoned it felt like someone had dumped a jar of seasoning into the dish. When our server came to check on the success of this dish we said it was inedible after taking one bite. He then attempted recommend other dishes and we said no thanks, we're done. When the check came he didn't offer it remove any of the offending dishes from the tab. Even at our request the only thing that he would do would be to credit us the inedible and untouched Larb dish, claiming that he couldn't do anything else as we had "ordered the food and he delivered it". I've been visiting Nevada city for many years and this restaurant used to be good. Used to be... Needless to say we will not be returning. Much much much better meal at Lola's at the national Hotel! read more

This place has one hell of a vegan tom kha!! The flavor is out of this world! The curries are also yummy here. Most of the curries have fish paste, but they can substitute yellow curry as the base and make almost any of the curries vegan friendly. I definitely recommend coming here if you're looking for vegan options that are filling and delicious. It's pricey here, so it's probably best to reserve dinner here for a special occasion/date night. read more
