The Pizza Place has been a part of my diet since I was a kid. I live across the country now and I miss having it available to eat. The cheese and sauce is a complement to the pepperoni that curls up to make little bowls for that delicious pepperoni oils. The crust is like nothing else I have found in this country. I remember the first time my husband took me to this place years ago (1994). He said it was his favorite pizza of all time and that he had eaten here every day for lunch when he was in high school. The man who ran the place remembered him, so he clearly ate there a lot. I remember thinking to myself that there's no way a pizza place in a small WV town could be my favorite. I was wrong. Even after traveling to Chicago and New York and other places around the country to eat pizza of all kinds, this place is still my favorite. I alwats order the large thick crust pepperoni with extra cheese. Then we just have to have one of their hot italin subs with chocolate chip cookies on the side. The fountain soda here is always great. The prices are little high but worth it. read more

This place is an old local favorite and shines in its simplicity. The pizzas are cooked in a nice old fashioned oven with a simple red sauce and mozzarella cheese. The pepperoni is excellent. More like 2.5 stars I came here based on google reviews stating it is the best pizza they've ever had and the kicker of all comments saying "it is better than NY pizza." I'm from NY and this is nowhere near the standard level of taste and deliciousness NY pizza lives up to. I ordered a cheese calzone and this was the first calzone I've ever ordered in my life that didn't come with a side of marinara sauce. The sauce that was inside the calzone was very scarce and there was extreme lack of seasoning. Even red pepper flakes couldn't amp up the flavoring. The only thing that was reasonable was the crust. Tonight, I am out a 30 minute round trip back, and a 20 minute wait after I got there so they could make it. Absolutely no compensation for the extra trip. You can tell this place uses fresh good ingredients.. best pizza I've had in a while. Although I do wish it was cooked a little bit longer. We have been customers at the South Side Pizza Place since it opened. We live in Texas now, but when we go home to WV, one of the first places we go is the Pizza Place. The food has maintained the same high quality that we remember. Additionally , Some of the cooks have been working there since we were in high school in the 80's. It really is like going home. Disappointed! I never usually post negative comments but I was grossly disappointed with this place. The girl taking orders at the counter didnt even know what there menu had. Then after the socializing on their phones was over they decided to make our subs with their bare hands! No gloves? Really? We ordered subs and they only offered american cheese, why bother with subs if you dont offer condiment options? The subs came out with dried out bread and not enough meat to cover the bread and again touching our food with their bare hands. Even the paper plates they served them on were dirty! Everything was good, but the Dudley ave one is much better. That being said, The original pizza place in Marietta is by far the best. After years of eating their food, even their worst is better than you will get any where else. This place ruined me, living here. Every time I eat pizza, I compare it to them. The south side pizza place leaves much to be desired. The staff are rude and the food is sub par from the other pizza place's in the area. Out of the 4 this is the worst by far. I have ordered from here a couple of times and each time was met with disappointment. The Marietta and PHS Locations are the best 2 to go to. Marietta has extremely good food and the staff there are very nice. PHS was always an old favorite as well. Management does their job well and makes really really good pizza. The Mall location is just a little better than south side. Some of the staff there are a bit rude but its their prices that bring them down. Almost 3.50 for a slice of pizza. No matter how far away you move you still crave pizza place, and have to get atleast a slice when you come to town. I stopped at the south side location because it was closer to where I was heading. The pepperoni rolls and garlic rolls were as good as ever. The pizza wasn't quite the same though. I have always felt the Southside location was not as good as the Dudley ave location. Ordered three subs and a small salad (with onions and cheese) for delivery. Received the food very quickly and the delivery driver was very pleasant. Went to eat the salad and it was just a package of lettuce with the onions and cheese. The online menu states it is lettuce, carrots and tomato. I called the restaurant to let them know there was a mistake with the order. The lady I spoke to said they don't have carrots and since I didn't say I wanted tomatoes, she took them off. I was getting more upset listening to her remarks and asked what kind of salad was just lettuce. She said to remove some of the lettuce if that was the problem. She then hung up on me. I called back to talk to a manager and the same lady answered and said she was the manager. When I asked her name she hung up on me again. I then tried to call back 5 or 6 more times but she wouldn't answer the phone. Finally a different manager answered and said I could have 10% off on my next order. Very horrible customer service. Pizza Place has the best pizza coming or going. The store by PHS seems to be the best place to get it fresh everytime. If you're told that you can take a seat and your order will be brought to you, don't believe it; it's better to stand at the front and wait, because your order and face are likely to be forgotten as soon as you walk away. (If you sit down you'll probably have to return to the front to inquire about the status of your order, and will be greeted with an unfriendly/impatient blank stare; I've had this exact experience at least 3 times.)
