Stopped in for a quick bite to eat while working. This is one of the better slices of pizza I have had in VA. The dough was nice and thin and had a great crispyness to it. So if that is what you like in pizza this is the spot. Didn't go 5 stars because the place is a little sketchy. They want you to pay only in cash. And they have an ATM there for you to take out cash if you don't have it. I guess it is a good way to save some money for them. It is open until midnight I think. They only sell pizza by the slice after a certain hour. Good idea. I'm sure they make good money when everyone leaves the bar just selling $2.50 slices. The place is a little run down inside. The bathroom is all tagged up and the mirror is broken. So my advice is come during the day when there will be less of a rowdy crowd. read more

Summary: The Pizza Place is a NY Style pizza joint that offers pizza as well as some non-traditional items like Jamaican Beef Patties. Cost: We had 4 slices and 2 bottled beverages for $15. Seems fair. Taste: Crispy and tasty. I think good pizza is either crispy and thin, or deep dish and buttery, and The Pizza Place has some darn good crispy crust. The sauce actually was quite good as well, probably due to the visible herbs and seasoning on top. I have certainly had some worse pizzas in my life. Atmosphere: When we first walked in I was honestly a bit apprehensive. It was a bright day and the inside was quite dark and had a slightly scary feel to it. Let's just say it doesn't have the environment of a family restaurant. You can actually purchase condoms here, which I'm not sure about you, but I have never had the option to buy a Slice, Soda, and Protection before all at one place. However, and this is a big however, once we sat down and our eyes adjusted, it's not such a bad place. Who am I to say that a place shouldn't have Disney on Ice promotional cards right next to Night Club flyers with explicit titles? The place does what it is passionate for and they have good pizza, so I really can't judge. Service: There was one staff member working there and he greeted everyone as "Boss". He seemed genuine and knew what he was doing. All in all a cool guy. Overall: On a recent Talk post, some fellow Yelpers suggested The Pizza Place as a place to go for slices. Such a horrible experience tonight, saved only by the customer service from Uber Eats. My order arrived timely, but I had ordered a DIET COKE with my order and was sent a regular coke instead. After driving by this place for what seems like a million times, I finally decided to try it since I knew it was open late and I had just finished my 3-10PM Pediatric ED shift. The menu is a bit more limited after a certain cutoff time (probably either 11PM or midnight, I can't remember), after which they sell only a subset of their menu. Also, the guy behind the counter said I could only order by the slice or whole pizza extra large. Despite the somewhat limited offerings, I ordered a slice of mushroom pizza, a Jamaican patty, and a sausage roll. The worker put all my food back into the oven for reheating. When he didn't put the mushroom pizza in at first, I thought he had forget part of my order, especially since he started tending to other people's orders placed after mine, but when I spoke up, he said it was just because the thin pizza didn't need to heat up as long. He was definitely a no-nonsense New Yorker, but at no point would I have considered him to have been rude. He was just very direct and to the point. As for the restaurant itself, it's simple and has a few tables for eating in, but I took my order to-go. It came wrapped in a nice pizza box. As for the food itself, I will pretty much only eat thin-crust pizza, so the thin crispy texture was just to my liking. I was also glad that the pizza was not too heavy when it comes to cheese; I prefer a greater sauce-to-cheese ratio. The stromboli roll was nasty, there was so much butter/grease on it that I couldnt taste the one single layer of pepperoni they thoughtfully put on the inside. Its topped with melted cheese slices, yes, sliced, not shredded, like the prepacked kind that goes on a sandwich. Same thing for the spinach roll. The beef patties are alright, but you can find the exact same ones anywhere else, even the CITGO in Petersburg has them. It's important to have a no-frills, walk-away kind of pizza you can eat standing on the street or on the way to your next location. These were plentiful in NY when I lived there, but here in Richmond so many people want to give you a box, or make you wait 30 minutes, or they want a tip, or you need a reservation, or they only cook it for 3 minutes in a fire oven and you have to use a fork and knife and you question what wrong you did in your life to get here. Facts: Not too greasy, not too floppy, no cheese run off, a bit of a crisp to the crust, and almost confusingly close to room temperature (which honestly, I love) on a paper plate. You pick a few toppings or none. None is fine. I don't go here for the delightful chit chat, I come here for minimal interactions and a quick, cheap slice I can shame-eat in my car. stopped at this place as an alternative to dominos while out of town after seeing a show. This was literally the worst experience from start to finish. The only worker was an absolute dick, yelling out to the people in line "your only choices are pepperoni, cheese, or pepperoni & sausage". which was a disappointment to begin with. however, we settled on pepperoni, wanted to take it to go, we're told "to go bags are at the end of the counter" when there weren't any. Instead of apologizing for lack of preparation, the man said, "oh here's some" and laid them on the counter. we fixed to just stay there, because our pizza was given to us on paper plates and I went back in line for drinks. While the one worker was telling a story to another customer, I waited for about 7 minutes for 2 bottled drinks.... when I finally got back to our table, around the corner comes the one worker, yelling "in 2 minutes dine in seating is closed!" a two minute warning? are you serious? not a 10 minute, then 5 minute warning, but 2 minutes? he came back around precisely 2 minutes later saying "dine in is closed" to which no I responded "seriously?" because i hadn't finished my one slice of pizza. and he said "yes seriously" to which i asked, "where is your boss" and he insisted that "he was the boss and if we didn't like it then don't come back". which of course, coming from out of town we definitely will not. Such piss poor customer service for somewhere that's scheduled to stay open until 3am but kicks out customers at 1am. Literally disgusting.
