A no frill pizza place that's right on Main St, perfect place for a quick bite when you're out for drinks. The pizza came out fresh and hot, no surprises there. The side of complimentary garlic sauce was a nice touch. When you're hungry after drinks and it's late, this is the place to be.

The pizza is about a 7.5 only because I needed it to give me NY style. Not bad at all for $14.

Get your pizza made fresh before buying a slice that's been sitting. Only saying this because I'm not sure how long they sit behind the glass. Overall, I would choose this over the other pizza chains. Only because it was fresh, hot and had real ingredients. Decent quality cheese.

Stopped in for a quick bite to eat while working. This is one of the better slices of pizza I have had in VA. The dough was nice and thin and had a great crispyness to it. So if that is what you like in pizza this is the spot. Didn't go 5 stars because the place is a little sketchy. They want you to pay only in cash. And they have an ATM there for you to take out cash if you don't have it. I guess it is a good way to save some money for them. It is open until midnight I think. They only sell pizza by the slice after a certain hour. Good idea. I'm sure they make good money when everyone leaves the bar just selling $2.50 slices. The place is a little run down inside. The bathroom is all tagged up and the mirror is broken. So my advice is come during the day when there will be less of a rowdy crowd.

Ordered through Grubhub. Arrived on time, though the driver wouldn't bring it into the hotel lobby. I had to walk outside and get the pizza from him. That's a Grubhub driver issue. Ordered a 22" onion, sausage, and mushroom. Completely burned and inedible garbage. I contacted the restaurant. They basically said "F- you". So, I had to get a refund via Grubhub. Don't order from this disgrace of a restaurant, unless you want issues...

Summary: The Pizza Place is a NY Style pizza joint that offers pizza as well as some non-traditional items like Jamaican Beef Patties. Cost: We had 4 slices and 2 bottled beverages for $15. Seems fair. Taste: Crispy and tasty. I think good pizza is either crispy and thin, or deep dish and buttery, and The Pizza Place has some darn good crispy crust. The sauce actually was quite good as well, probably due to the visible herbs and seasoning on top. I have certainly had some worse pizzas in my life. Atmosphere: When we first walked in I was honestly a bit apprehensive. It was a bright day and the inside was quite dark and had a slightly scary feel to it. Let's just say it doesn't have the environment of a family restaurant. You can actually purchase condoms here, which I'm not sure about you, but I have never had the option to buy a Slice, Soda, and Protection before all at one place. However, and this is a big however, once we sat down and our eyes adjusted, it's not such a bad place. Who am I to say that a place shouldn't have Disney on Ice promotional cards right next to Night Club flyers with explicit titles? The place does what it is passionate for and they have good pizza, so I really can't judge. Service: There was one staff member working there and he greeted everyone as "Boss". He seemed genuine and knew what he was doing. All in all a cool guy. Overall: On a recent Talk post, some fellow Yelpers suggested The Pizza Place as a place to go for slices. I stand by their suggestions and would definitely come back for a slice if I were in the area. Would I come at night? Probably not, and not without a group. But if you're walking around the area in the day or in between classes and want a place for a nice piece of crispy and flavorful pizza at a fair price, definitely check it out.

The staff are amazing people! This is also the closest thing I've had to NY pizza, in Virginia. Get the garlic sauce w/ your pizza

Great late night spot, cheap, quick, also tasty enough to order a whole pizza for takeout. Yummy.

The bar was getting full, but there were still a few tables left to choose from. This is a dive, similar to Poe's Pub, so if that's not your scene, don't come here. That said, we really like the character of this place, even if it smells a little funky upstairs. It adds to the character and charm, or at least, that's what we tell ourselves. The same bartender as usual (still don't know his name) helped us. They do have a sour beer. It's not as fruity as I like, though, still passable. (Seriously, Patrick Henry's, y'all need to order some from Texas and Oklahoma sours for the real deal; Martin House Brewing Co. in Ft Worth does them so right). Anyway, we ordered the goat cheese bread appetizer (warm apple butter, goat cheese, and sunflower seeds = immense pleasure). For entrees, I grabbed the Hot Chicken Pizza (hot sauce and pickles!), and my partner went for the chicken sandwich and sweet potato fries. There was so much food that we had leftovers, as usual. They heated up well in the air fryer and were nearly as good. DO NOT SLEEP ON THIS PLACE. I will admit, it does look slightly seedy, but the food here is magnificent. The pizza was thin, crispy, and full of delicious flavor. I swear, the chefs here know what they are doing with their menu. It's simple, yet elegant. The appetizers are simple, yet they easily compete with The Brooklyn and Pinky's apps, for example, which are more affordable and in a more relaxed environment. Do yourself a favor and get the goat cheese. It sings. The customers here are chill and interesting, and the bartender is calm and cool; he never seems out of sorts, even when the bar is full with a line out the door. I wholeheartedly recommend Patrick Henry's. We have been here twice now, and the service and food have been excellent both times (Sept 2025, May 2026).

It was a tricky life I was living going to school in the City. The burger is excellent. The fries are great. The beer tastes like beer. It's simple, but I love it. It can be a bit packed, so maybe make this a solo endeavor if you're really feeling fat. You can always find a spot at the bar. The parking, not easy for most. But for me, I'm not scared to maybe park in a spot that's not reserved for Jack Browns Customers. I may sweat it for a second, but don't let that potentially 2 block walk stray you away from a delicious burger.

I made the mistake of coming here for my birthday celebration this year, and in retrospect I am not…read moresure what I was thinking. To their credit, they do have a good draft/bottle beer list, and their burgers are indeed good. However, that's really all there is to recommend them. The parking situation here is absolutely awful and starts things off on a bad note. Their absence of a waitlist system made it awkward while our party waited to get a table and other groups waiting for a table jockeyed for position, and they took forever to clean it off even after the previous party had left. While it was nice of my compatriots to pay for my dinner, the server refused to split our checks, which made it especially obnoxious for my friends who had ordered significantly less than others since they were still on the hook for the even split. If this had been the only service issue it might have been somewhat forgivable, but the server all but disappeared for most of the evening after taking our orders, particularly when most of us ran dry before our food finally arrived. This all might be excusable in a cheaper place, but Jack Brown's is NOT cheap anymore, they are just as overpriced as every other "bougie burger" spot around without a valid justification for it. At the end of the evening, I looked really dumb for choosing this place. That is definitely not a mistake I will make twice. Overall: 2.0 stars --- Pros: - Excellent draft and bottle beer list. - Burgers are good and unique. Cons: - Recent price increases kill the value proposition of this spot, just not worth it anymore when there are SO many options around for this sort of thing. - Weird seating/waitlist situation makes for a bad first impression. - Service was incredibly low energy, and as I can attest to as a former restaurant server myself, a party of eight needs some effort to get things right. - Parking here sucks, this area desperately needs at least one parking garage to make it less of an exercise in frustration to get here in the first place.
