This pizza lives up to the hype! It's been making its rounds on social media so of course on a recent trip to Santa Cruz I had to take a detour to Scott's Valley and hit up this pizza joint. Very unsuspecting strip mall next to the cineplex. Upon walking in there's pizza slices behind glass. Not sure if it was the lighting or my hunger but these pie's looked astonishing and each one could have been ordered without some self control. Every slice passed the eye test. Vibes were pretty low inside I won't lie. There was no music, TV playing the NBA playoff game was on mute. But the girl at the counter was friendly and patient with us as we figured out what to order. My fiance went with the Caesar salad. She was expecting a small, discreet one as it was part of their specials along with pizza and drink. But no this salad was enough for two! I went with the sweet heat. Hot honey on a Detroit style slice along with sausage and pepperoni. I was in heaven. Had it not been a day with more eating ahead I would've ordered another. My son got the classic triangle pepperoni slices and said it was the best pizza he's ever eaten. High marks from a pizza connoisseur. This place is a solid 4 stars (possibly even higher). My only (small) complaint is that the pizza can be a little heavy and greasy. But hey, it's pizza right? I have eaten two of the Pizzas, with family. We believe there are good choices. We have yet to make that choice. Yet, the Honey sauce is a great added feature and flavor. I like the Detroit Crust with crust edges, and the regular. The topping choices, like the ricotta floral dollops are a nice flavor control and garnishment. This is hands down my favorite pizza spot. I'm usually very sensitive to gluten and tend to get bad acid reflux from pizza, but theirs never gives me any symptoms, which honestly says everything. I love the thickness of their crust... it's perfectly fluffy with just the right amount of crisp. My go-to order is the Pep & More Detroit-style pizza, plus a side of Calabrian honey to drizzle on top. Absolutely unbeatable. We got side salads and a pizza with half pepperoni and half of the Hawaiian style one (don't recall the name but it had bacon and jalapeños). The pepperoni was by far my favorite! Today friend and had a late lunch here... We ordered a half pesto,half tomato basil pie and it was fantastic! The pesto was so exceptional we asked the owner(who is a really likeable guy) about it and he smiled and said they are always trying new things with their fresh pesto configuration. My friend usually gets her pesto pizza at a different pizzeria since she lives in Soquel, but she declared that this pesto was the best she has ever had! It has been a while, so we finally decided to try The Pizza Series again. In addition to Detroit-style pizza, there is now a round pizza option that I would describe as New York style. We ordered a large round pizza. Ordering online, you can indicate what you want on the whole pizza and what you want on each half. We ordered caramelized onion, roasted garlic, and sautéed mushrooms on the whole pizza, then pepperoni on one half and grilled chicken on the other half. The flavor of the pizza is the basis of my 5-star review. Delicious! Being able to have ingredients roasted, caramelized, and sautéed made an enormous difference. The pizza has the "floppiness" of New York style pizza and a slightly tough crust, but the flavor was excellent. The pepperoni is spicy, so we might skip it in the future so it doesn't overpower the other flavors we enjoy. We ordered ahead for pick up about an hour later. When my husband arrived to pick up our pizza, it was just coming out of the oven. They did not make it and let it sit around. One thing I wish The Pizza Series would add to their menu is garlic bread or bread sticks. They do have a couple of salads and various chicken wings. Toppings and pizza style are a matter of preference, but it is clear that The Pizza Series is using quality ingredients and aims for excellent service. We will be back. read more

Oh my gosh!! This pizza was SO. GOOD. $30...expensive..but mostly understandable. The crust was chewy and crispy, held up to the toppings. Look at that ricotta!! The pizza and wings here are so good! Service was surprisingly quick for a Detroit style pizza, I've never had pizza topped with ricotta and it was a nice touch. We ordered the buffalo wings and they were fresh and DRENCHED in delicious sauce (in the best way) Even though you order/pay at the register and take a number for your food to be delivered to your table, the staff still came to our table multiple times to check on us. They also have chicken wings, calzones, salads and alcohol. The Caesar salad dressing and Parmesan shavings are tasty but I do add a little lemon juice and pepper to the dressing when I have it delivered. You HAVE to get the square deep dish. Since they opened we have been working our way through the amazing Detroit-style menu. We usually come back to the 1/2-1/2 Tomato Basil (w/piped whipped ricotta) and Chicken Pesto--but honestly, any one could be my favorite for the night the mood suits. The very thick crust in this style gets crispy around the edges, and if there's any rough spot it is that even a minute or two in a busy oven can be misjudged. Had I written something after my first visit this would be a 5-star review. Everything was excellent. I ordered a slice of the square pepperoni and a soda, which came in around $10. The slice was very good--the bottom was crunchy, the dough had a nice chew, the toppings were all working together, and on the edge where the cheese had slipped between the dough and the pan it was all crunchy in the best way. Yay! I've been back twice since then and each time has been a less enjoyable experience. On my second visit they got my order wrong and brought me a slice from a round pie, not the square one, and it was OK. Not bad at all but lacking personality. I assumed that I had not been clear. My third time was today. I made sure I was clear this time and they still brought me the wrong slice. This time, however, I asked for what I ordered. Maybe that was my mistake. What arrived was indeed from the square pie but it was room temperature, like it hadn't been reheated. The fat from the pepperoni hadn't melted, the crust was tough and gummy, and the cheese was hard. This rating is solely based on whoever the female host who answered the phone when I called to make a reservation of 20 - 25 people much later that day. She said they could not accommodate us and that we needed to make a reservation a week in advance, in a real dismissive tone. Ok cool. However, I then asked well what's the capacity of the restaurant? She says "uhh about 70". I say okay cool. So later that afternoon I call up another pizza place across town and the service was night and day. I made a reservation with them and the girl at this location checked in with the manager and I explained we had a large group coming 20 - 25 people. All he does is yell to his kitchen "30 to 35 people no problem see you tonight"! So now it's nighttime and we're at the alternate location eating and find out one of our families went to series pizza instead of Woodstock's where we were.
