The Plot is a vegetable based restaurant serving up delicious dishes - one of the most memorable dining experiences I've based on the food alone. They are very mission driven to make plant-based foods delicious, build healthy soil, reduce carbon emission, and more. They also partner with Pure Project, a brewery that also prioritizes being environmentally conscious. The interior felt like an indoor patio hut with a lot of plant life. Each table had a live plant and a candle (lit for dinner). The lighting inside is dimmed too, perfect for a date night. The menu aesthetic also felt like recycled paper. All the details adds up to the experience. The staff is incredible. They answered all my questions, brought out the food in a timely manner, explained what everything on the plate is and where the vegetables came from. The food was incredible, filling, beautifully plated and came at a great price. I got to try to Pickle as an appetizer with 6 different non-fermented pickles - they all tasted different and paired well with the rest of the meal. The kombu cauliflower is a must try. The dish includes a unique and tasty ingredient called sea beans, which tasted salty and crunchy. The grilled savoy is a "steak" of grilled cabbage paired with herbs and an umami sauce. The carrotfish taco was unique, but not something I'd try again - the components basically tasted like a regular fish tacos though. Overall, I was very impressed by the food and the service. I came to The Plot for the first time this weekend and was more than impressed. I love that all their food is farm to table and zero waste! While everything is completely vegan, you'd never know. Everything has a ton of flavor and is visually appealing too. I loved that the dinner starts with a complementary amuse-bouche and it was delicious. I was particularly feeling delicate today and I am so happy with my choice for lunch because the Plot was able to match my current BEing and wanted the comfort of food... I felt like i was dining in a Michelin Star Restaurant as soon as the Winter Squash Medley plate was delivered to my table As the menu describes it includes Tahitian, Delicata, and koginut squash with pickled onion, smoked yogurt, date syrup and buckwheat delicately sprinkled in dainty amounts. It was divine. Now, if you're looking for a "hungry man" meal, this dish alone will not satiate; you would want to order at least another item on the menu! So, for this sit down at the Plot, "Christian", my server recommended the Spam Kimchi Bowl, which has red lentil spam, crispy rice scallion, sesame, napa cabbage and sea beans. The sauce on this dish was very much to my liking and the combination of textures of the meal were perfect! This is only the 2nd time that I have had sea beans in my entire life and it truly gives this unique dish a twist. From the crunch & crisp of the rice to the fantastic flavor of the red lentil "spam," this one of a kind is to be enjoyed fresh to order; DO NOT ORDER it to go! I've heard raving reviews about this place and needed to try it myself. Let's say when I arrived, I was a bit disappointed with service. I was standing there for a good solid 15 min until the host/server realized I was there since she was chatting it up with the only table there. Place was completely empty other than the table she was talking to. Now on to the food... I had the Korean Chicken Sandwich. It was definitely delicious, but such a HUGE entree that I couldn't even finish half of the sandwich. You definitely get your moneys worth on this one. I believe that is place took over Native Foods. So there isn't much of a distinction between the two different restaurants. Lovely tent restaurant... the only that through me off was the server. She was quite pushy on getting my food in. Would I be back?! Probably not... I believe service should be better. That definitely makes a difference. read more

I am typically a fan of plant-based food and I had been looking forward to going to the Plot for a long time. Located at the Camp where Native Foods used to be. Parking is always horrendous, but you might get lucky if you try to vulture parking. They have plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. The inside area has a bar area and half booths. I was seated at a half booth, and forgotten for a bit. Service was generally on the slow side. I love that they have the Fermensch Kombucha brand ($6/can) but I was sad they didn't have the yuzu. Of their available flavors, I got the hibiscus ginger. Still good, but I just prefer the yuzu. Due to the recommendation of the waitress I got their Seasonal Toast Flight ($15). This comes with three half slices of toasts. It was overly thick and the flavors didn't stand out. The fall special flavors were goat cheese and spiced apples, pumpkin miso relish and oyster mushrooms, and tomato jam with butter beans and crispy gyro chunks. If you look at my picture you would see that I only took a bite out of 2 of them and only finished 1 after removing some ingredients. I was SO HUNGRY, so that said a lot about how I felt about this thick flavorless dry toast. I also ordered a Chicken and Waffles ($17.50). The faux chicken was just fried tofu. That syrup was much needed cause everything else was just dry. The waffles were okay after dunking into the syrup. The coating of the tofu could use more flavor. I ate a piece of each to see how it tasted fresh but I took the rest to go to take home and combine with other ingredients. Service was slow as there was only one server for the entire restaurant. My friend and I shared some appetizers, while my sister order a main dish. My sister really did not like her Crispy "Chicken" Sandwich. My friend and I thought the half farmers salad and burrata w stonefruit were pretty good. I personally wouldn't call the vegan cheese spread that's served with that salad to be called burrata, as it's more of a ricotta. Everything on the menu is very healthy. The Plot is a plant-based restaurant located at the Camp. The team prioritizes sustainability and local sourcing. There are a lot of other food and drink spots here. It tends to get very busy and parking can be difficult. My friend and I came here on a weeknight and it was busy, but we we were able to find a parking spot relatively quickly. The Plot looks like a yurt. We love the design and decor of the interior. Staff greeted us upon entering and we were seated immediately. Our order consisted of the Roasted Yuzu Yam, XO Cabbage, and Biscuits and Gravy. We were also given an amuse bouche of a rice cracker with pickled vegetables. The yam and cabbage came out first. They were both plated beautifully. The yams were soft but not mushy and we could easily taste the yuzu which we enjoyed. The char flavor of the cabbage came through and the sea beans (?) on top added a pop of salt to the dish. After finishing those two, we were served the Biscuits and Gravy. The gravy was tasty and the "chicken" was seasoned well. The biscuits were on the mushy side which we were disappointed about. Otherwise, it was a solid dish. Overall, The Plot gets a 4/5. Came here whilst on a work-cation. Lots of parking were available. It's in a nice little cozy shopping area. The plot is a beautiful restaurant here with seating both inside and outside. We chose to sit outside. I loved the restaurant when I ate in oceanside. And recommended my colleagues to come with me We had delicious vegan food. Service is fantastic. We ordered multiple dishes to share. We had vegan polenta with chorizo, vegetable tempura, carrot *fish* and chips, and a kale salad with tofu. We went on a Sunday morning as soon as they opened, so didn't have any trouble with parking (though it was oddly pretty full already with a lot of those businesses in that center not even open yet!). I love the cute yurt style building and windows surrounding all around. Not a bad seat in the house! The outside seating area looked very welcoming also, but we were trying to get less sun so opted for indoor seating. Lots of great options (especially for vegan Esposo) and the customer service was great, relaxed, not pushy, accommodating. Tucked in The Camp is The Plot, one of two locations as of now (2nd in Oceanside). The food is quite unique and creative with a bit of emphasis on sustainability. Some dishes may not look super appealing but the flavor and taste is definitely there. We ordered the lions mane and corn appetizers as well as power bowl and spam/kimchi bowl. All of the food is really good tasting and feels really nutritious. Serving size was quite generous as well. Like some other reviews, the service could be better but perhaps they are a bit understaffed, at least when we went there was almost a full restaurant. Another piece to note is that the menu appears to be highly rotational, maybe with the season and when we were there some menu items were not available including some of the drinks. The restaurant itself is pretty unique too I believe it used to be a native foods some time ago and complemented the food to give it an overall positive vibe in my opinion. I found this vegan / plant-based restaurant on Yelp and had been eager to try it. They did not disappoint. The space is natural, green, and inviting with both indoor and outdoor seating. They are located in Irvine's The Campus center where Native Foods Cafe used to be. Plenty of parking but it can get crowded. I saw so many pictures on of beautifully plated and tasty looking dishes on Yelp, so I was disappointed that many of the ones I wanted to try are only in the dinner menu (4-9pm). But this just gives me another reason to return. And return I shall because the two dishes we got were delicious!! The Chopped Kale Salad was fresh and dressed with a balanced dressing that was creamy, tangy, and salty. The Kale massaged so it was tender and not difficult to chew as kale can be at times. The Spam Kimchi Bowl was a great source of protein, probiotics, rice, and spice. I felt so light after the meal; full but not bloated or weighed down. Service was friendly, professional, and efficient. I love that they are a no-waste kitchen and restaurant. They care about sustainability. They deserve extra stars for that! Very cute restaurant in the middle of the CAMP. Great selection of drinks and really unique vegan/vegetarian meals. The staff was very friendly and the food came out quickly. Even though the food portions didn't look large, I was really full after. Egg Sando: the egg is made of garbanzo beans and it was very savory and easy to eat. I'm actually glad I didn't get sides because it was so filling. My mom wasn't a big fan because she didn't hear me mention it's carrots I think it would be good if they could get the carrots marinated somehow to give it more of an umami/seafood taste! Like with a kombu based broth or something. Patty Melt - Nice flavor! It had the nutty graininess of lentils? Or whatever they make the patty with. The mushrooms gave it a nice flavor as well. And to top off, how they accomplished the silky texture to the dairy free ube panna cotta is a miracle! They have a decent cocktail list, and we enjoyed baby Michael but the troubadour was lacking the boozy kick I craved. My least favorite was the eggplant and wine. We got a bottle and it was pretty mid (which I guess I kind of expected for only $44). I wish they had crushed red pepper. They did give us two house made hot sauces. One was their version of sriracha and another super spicy sauce (not sure the base). Both were good, but neither was good with pasta. Here's what all we tried: Kombu Cauliflower topped with a little purple cabbage kimchi, and skinny long sea beans. It's good and the plate was plentiful. Eggplant & Focaccia. The eggplant was properly cooked to soft. Sadly the baby tomatoes were tasteless, could have been roasted a bit longer. You may like the tomato jam on the thick slice of Focaccia bread, I would prefer it to be a little firmer and sweeter. This is a tasty appetizer. Butter Beans ~ I would not order again ~ because of taste and price. I know it's an appetizer, but the quantity was scat for $10. The beans tasted no different than from a can. While I very much enjoyed the Nori tapenade, I very much disliked the sour tasting cultured G.O.A.T cheese (cashews) they were sitting atop of. Tiny real flowers were a nice touch. The service was very accommodating, friendly, and attentive. Our primary server was Brandon, but others helpfully assisted too. Brandon gave us what he called an "amuse immunity". I was very pleasantly surprised by the quality of the food here and the service!! It's a very open environment, a nice social outing but you can also get comfy enough to hang out and relax should the busy hours pass by. Our waiters were very friendly should you want to make a friend, and they gave some great insights on what's the best go arounds. And I was not disappointed by either of the items I ordered. The Brussels sprouts were cooked with a nice crisp on the outside, and weren't too heavily drenched in sauce which made each bite more and more flavorful without it being too overpowering. Completely plant based restaurant in the heart of the Camp-- the Plot is definitely worth every headache waiting for that one lucky spot. I wouldn't particularly recommend dedicated meat lovers to come here as nothing will sound good to you. But diving into the vegetarian lifestyle this place is flavortown playing with citrus, salt and texture. Just by eating here I've been introduced to the cutest little sprouty crunches called sea beans. We've been here twice now and both times were equally hard limiting ourselves on what to get. I do have to say-- nothing is what you expect and what you get never disappoints. The citrus dressing is incredibly refreshing on the kale Caesar salad. We'd tried the chicken but it's not like any other plant based poultry I've ever tried. It's more protein gluten sponge. Like a honeycombed chunk of tofu without the soy. Love love the French press that coffee comes in. So heavy duty, insulated temperature and looks like it can take some use and abuse. Delicious smooth coffee too. The only downside is everything is so beautiful and meticulously tested, paired, presented-- it's gonna be at least $30 per person without beverages. I don't understand how there can be so few patrons and still be able to make rent at such an impressive spot. But whatever they're doing I wish them to be as long as possible. I was there today at 12:40 PM, first time ever, only two tables had customers , yet no one at the order station, no employees in the dining room. Waited a while, no one showed up, so my wife went to find someone. In the kitchen she found employees just jabbering, socializing and she asked if someone could come take orders. A very grumpy person told her she would be right out....then wasn't. She never came. We waited and others did as well but we eventually gave up and went to another nearby vegan restaurant we know has good service. Place looks clean, the menu was very limited. My guess is they do not have the staff to support a full menu or to consistently operate the order station and have proper service. Wanted to support the plant based world but they have to be there to take an order! I had a lot of excitement stepping into Plot, given the diversity of the menu and zero waste concept. I was wowed by the chef's welcome tasting of lettuce gazpacho. Which ultimately set the bar high and I expected everything thereafter to have that kind of a "wow" effect, but that was far from the case :( The gazpacho vibrant in color, had the perfect touch of salt, and it left me feeling like I had been transcended into a garden. I started with one of the evening off-menu specials - Root Agua Chile. The dish was plated beautifully, many colors. The sauce was some kind of strawberry pure and was delicately sweet at first but afterwards there's a spicy heat that flares on your palate... I particularly loved it. The disappointment in the dish was the celeriac root, it was rubbery and hard to chew. This was the primary reason I got this dish, so overall, I was let down because of the celeriac root. For my main I ordered the gnocchi. I was delighted when the dish was placed in front of me; however, I can say I've never EVER had gnocchi like this before... it was like rubber balls, I seriously wanted to bounce it off the floor. It was so horrible, I'm lost for words on how to exactly describe it other than rubber balls??? The mushrooms, asparagus, peas and tomatoes prepared well and well seasoned, but nothing was good enough to replace how horrible the gnocchi was. The Koji cheese sauce was very meh, nothing very tantalizing. I did not eat the gnocchi, but picked at the veggies. The staff and chef were very apologetic and tried to offer a replacement, but due to the overall less than stellar celeriac root and the gnocchi I was definitely not going to give something else a shot during this visit All I wanted to do was leave and find other food that was worth my time. It's in the CAMP which gives you a lot of options to browse shops before and after your meal. Again, I do want to recognize the staff's attempt to remedy this poor experience. Hands down The Plot is as of December 2024 the best vegan restaurant in Orange County. In terms of experience, it's similar to the now defunct Gracias Madre (previously Cafe Gratitude) in Newport Beach. The food is high-end / chef made with fresh and high quality ingredients. I used to drive all the way down to Oceanside for this and I was super excited when it opened in Orange County. The service is always great and you can usually get a table even on a Saturday evening. The only drawback (not a fault of the owners) is the egregious parking situation at The Camp which is why I would rather drive for an hour to the Carlsbad location than 15 minutes to the Costa Mesa one. My only advice to the owners: please move to a more accessible location in southern OC. read more

Had an amazing dinner here yesterday and both the service and food was exquisite. Everything we ordered was excellent but the standouts were definitely the sushi and chocolate mousse. The sushi had such a lovely "fishy" flavor and was perfectly salted and seasoned. I really loved the spicy mayo too. The kbbq "chicken" sandwich was fabulous and I loved the sauces and the fried "chicken". I also really enjoyed the "chicken" shawarma bowl and found the faux meat to have a lovely seasoning and the texture was spot on. I also loved the hummus and dressing and it felt so wholesome. The chocolate mousse was everything I could dream of in a dessert: decadent, creamy and chocolately. We sat on the patio which was so tranquil and lovely and great for people watching. I love how they have pillows and blankets! Parking is easy in the shared lot but since it was a busy Saturday, we parked on the street. read more

I was very excited to check out this new vegan spot at the camp (where Native Foods used to be). Super cute ambiance both inside and out. Full service dine-in instead of ordering at the counter. We sat outside with my dog (dog friendly) and I was thrilled to see them provide blankets! They also have heaters so it was very comfortable. We went for brunch around 2 pm. They have a good sized drink menu, including lots of nonalcoholic options (perfect for dry January). We tried the zero proof Paloma and thoroughly enjoyed it. Started with the soup- the soup rotates but today was ginger carrot. Delicious! We then got the toast flight which also rotates- this had 3 toasts: avocado, mushroom pesto, and seaweed dill. All delicious! I wanted to try the cinnamon roll, but was disappointed when we were told brunch ends at 3 and we tried ordering too late (3:30). I would've appreciated a heads up for last call on the brunch menu. Dinner starts at 5, so it was unclear what happens from 3-5 or if they technically closed.. Our server made up for it by offering free dessert! We got the dark chocolate tart, which was delicious and a very generous serving size. When it came to pay, the check arrived and we were told to scan to pay on our phone. I personally hate doing this, and we were told this was the only option.. Hands down the best plant based restaurant I've ever had. The atmosphere is clean soft earth colors , yurt as restaurant, soft music in background, cool seating with pillows or benches. Mission statement is epic love love love. Prices are very fair for fresh farmed foods. Michele, our waitress was super sweet. She recommended the biscuits and gravy (fried tofu) and Shepard pie (wild lentils and rice with veggies). Chef surprised us with Moosh Boosh for palate starter-spicy cucumber mint with strawberry on top and tangerine oil. The soda was probably healthiest ingredient based I've ever had and tasty. I am already excited to come back so I can try other times on menu. read more

My wife and I have been to The Plot (inside The CAMP in Costa Mesa) twice--and will definitely be coming back for more! The menu is very creative. It uses ü/ï/ë on the menu to note what item is being recreated with vegan ingredients. Their polenta is to die for, the "carrotfish" tacos are legitimately better than 90% of actual fish tacos, the biscuits and gravy is popular (I thought it was good but not great), and the fingerling potatoes are also the perfect appetizer as they're super crispy and come with delicious mustard The atmosphere is chill, it's one big circular room with the bar in the middle and seats along the outside. There's also outdoor seating. The cocktails & mocktails are seasonal, super creative and really good! I had one with ginger beer and freeze dried blackberries, which was deliciously and had a texture like pop rocks. read more

Food is exceptional, with farm-to-table freshness, and super innovative. For me, it's a toss-up between the Beet Reuben Sando and the Chronic. Oh, and the Cheesy Truffle Fries. Oof. The servers are engaging and happily answer all questions. Everyone is nice, and we appreciated the amuse-bouche from the kitchen to start off our dining experience.
