The Plumed Serpent was the most amazing place to buy a wedding dress!! From the moment I first walked into the store until the day that I picked up my gown, everyone I met listened to what I wanted, what I liked, what I didn't like, and they were never ever pushy. They were honest and I appreciated that most of all. Everyone, especially the owner, Alison Fischer, made me feel like the most beautiful important bride she had ever had. After hearing wedding dress war stories from many of my girlfriends, I was hesitant to go shopping for a dress at a full service bridal salon. Going to the Plumed Serpent was the best decision I made. Shopping for my dress ended up being a fun experience with lots of laughs, bringing tears all to my best friend, my sister and my mother's eyes. Alison, was so accommodating to my overly tight schedule and made magic happen in getting me my dream dress in time for my wedding. The seamstress at Plumed Serpent did a fantastic job in hemming my dress to fit perfectly for my petite 5'2 frame. I was a little concerned that the strapless all lace dress might be a bit heavy as the night wore on but the fit was perfect and I didn't have to think about anything except having a blast dancing the night away. The store itself is lovely, with high ceilings and gorgeous dresses everywhere! From the service to the dress selections I had the best experience ever! I credit the Plumed Serpent with making me look like a princess on the day I've dreamed about since I was a little girl!! read more

Though i was initially impressed when walking in, by the end this place left me with a bad taste in my mouth. Though they took their time to help me find something I liked by the end of the fitting the sales person was EXTREMELY pushy who kept telling me if i didn't purchase that day I'd lose the special price they were giving me. Spending over $6k on a gown is a decision i needed a couple of days to make. Once I said that, it was like I didn't exist and on to the next bride. Ended up purchasing my gown for less than their "special rate" from Kleinfelds in the city. Great experience at Kleinfelds-- they were not pushy at all. read more

Allison was super nice--she made me feel very comfortable; she was enthusiastic and seemed truly excited for me and interested in me, which I loved! The store had yummy treats and champagne which was fun. I also love that it's a local store. It's a small store so obviously there is a limited selection, but I thought it was a good and varied selection. The brands are listed on the website so you know what they carry and shouldn't be surprised by what brands they have and don't have. Why I'm giving 3 stars: one, I wasn't strongly encouraged to browse. Two, Allison was a little pushy. I mean, more power to her--this is her store, she wants to make the sale, and the dress I liked was super pretty on me! But I felt really, really pressured to buy right then and there, and I almost bought a dress that, upon reflection, would not have been "right." If you you go and are unsure about your dress, stay strong! It can be tough to say "no." But if you live in the area, I would recommend going--the store has a very nice selection, everyone who worked there was nice and welcoming, and Allison is really a pro at putting together an overall wedding "look." read more

My best friend is getting married next year and found the most beautiful wedding dress here! We all had so much fun and the atmosphere at this store is incredible. It was intimate and all about our bride- I recommend going on a Friday because they were much less busy than Saturday and we had the back of the store to ourselves. Krissy helped us so much with her vision of how she wanted to look on her wedding day, and brought out so many gorgeous options. At one point it was hard to choose because our bride loved a couple options from the designer, but Krissy was hands on and helped point out a lot of details we weren't aware of. We all agree it was the best day and can not recommend Krissy/ The Plumed Serpent more. read more

I am the Maid-of-Honor in my best friend's wedding, and both myself and the bride purchased beautiful dresses from The Plumed Serpent. The store is in an unassuming little shopping park in Westport, and is quite lovely inside. It is organized, clean, and bright -- a perfect interior to show off the gorgeous gowns. The viewing area is also lovely -- the spacious couches, raised platform, and wall-to-wall mirrors are very elegant. I have been there so far on two separate appointments. The first was the bride's initial outing to try on wedding gowns, when the dress she tried on first turned out to be the one, and next on a spur-of-the-moment trip when some of the out-of-town bridesmaids were visiting to try on dresses. Both times our party was welcomed and treated attentively and pleasantly. I didn't find the staff "pushy" at all, rather they were very matter-of-fact and helpful. In ordering my Maid-of-Honor gown, the staff was very gracious and accomodating in making sure that it would arrive on time. As far as the bride's experience has gone, she is mostly very pleased -- there was a snafu where she learned that her dress had been in the store for a month without her knowledge, but as she explained it was a mix-up caused by good intentions. The situation has since been fixed. and she has been in the for the first fitting, and the dress is perfect. I will have my first fitting a week from today (I will update this post after that fitting and/or after the wedding/final pick up). I am very happy with my experience. The staff is certainly posh (I mean, this IS Westport, and the store caters to a Fairfield County clientele. It comes with a territory), but certainly NOT rude. The dresses and prices are mostly upscale, but let's be serious; if you're walking into The Plumed Serpent, then upscale is what you're looking for. I would definitely recommend this attentive, spacious bridal boutique to anyone who has the budget for one of their dresses. Great service, gorgeous gowns, and a beautiful shop. read more

So I got engaged a month ago and set my dress budget at around 8k. I walked in to browse with one of my girlfriends a few days ago and the girl at the front desk didn't even bother to look up at me. When I said hello and asked about making an appointment she said to me "you didn't make an appointment?" in a rather nasty tone. I said no, but I was interested in making one. She then told me they were "very busy". At this juncture she walked away into the back. I was baffled and so upset. Right before walking out the door I heard a girl speaking with one of the sales associates and she did not seem happy (something about her dress or an accessory not being in when it was requested, I didn't hear the whole conversation as I was in a hurry to leave due to the way I was treated). In a market where there is so much competition it is a wonder why this store is still in business given their poor customer service (and I am clearly not the only one who thinks so). I'd rather take my service to another salon (in the city, or even a little something white right down the road in Darien). Very similar selections and already I've experienced WAY better customer service. It's a shame, as I lived in Westport for several years growing up before going abroad and always envisioned myself getting my wedding dress at Plumed Serpent. Oh well, their loss. read more

I purchased my wedding dress at David's Bridal back in April, and decided I should abide with tradition and get a veil to go with it. When I was running errands with my mother in Westport, we decided to stop in and look for a veil. Though the store was completely empty we were stopped and asked if we had an appointment. I said no, and the store clerk didn't seem jazzed to help us. I described what I was looking for - an elbow-length veil - and she essentially said they didn't really carry it. I asked her if she could still bring out something for me to try on, and after what seemed like 5 minutes, she brought out one, then subsequently disappeared. I asked how much it was and my jaw nearly dropped when she replied $700. Though the sales lady was not outright rude, she absolutely had a snobbish aura, which given the Westport location, should not have surprised me. Still, if I'm in the market for high end goods, I'd expect to be treated a little nicer, regardless if I'm browsing or purchasing. Not impressed. read more

Update Number 3 and Lisa & Alison did NOT let me down! The dress came in right - with 3 months to go until the wedding - they fixed the problem, never once made me feel bad about it and treated my mother and myself with the utmost respect and courtesy (even though, comparatively speaking to the other designers in the salon) it was not really an expensive dress. There was no feeling of "you spend more, you get better service" - the owner, Alison and Lisa made me feel like I was the only bride in the world which is SO uncharacteristic of this industry as I've found over the past two years we've been engaged. Most salons would have pointed to the contract and said that my incorrect dress was what I paid for - but the Plumed Serpent delivered and with ZERO attitude (which I can't say for any other salon I've been to in Manhattan or the Boston area). They were constantly in communication with the designer of my gown and myself and kept me up to date and stuck to my timeline of wanting my gown early so I can bring it back to Boston for alterations and have it in time to fly down to Florida for my wedding. julie!! - she is the best bridal consultant! - she assisted me and knew exactly what i was explaining for a dress. it was my first and best experience ever! she was honest with me and was very accommodating to my family as well. i was so happy at the end of my appointment. i found my dress and it was perfect! it was different and soo special! she could tell that i loved it and she could even tell when i didnt like others! julie was just over the top and i couldn't have asked for anyone better to help me through this time in my life. thanks julie!!! i cant wait to continue to work with you through this process :) the business itself is very clean and the prices are typical prices for dresses. if you are trying to spend under 3 grand for a dress then you aren't getting the best. the material here is amazing and so is the service. well worth the money. its one day! but it is a big deal for a bride! thanks again! 5 stars and more!! read more

Let me begin by saying I purchased my dress here years ago and had a great experience and have also referred other people there. But the last time I went in was an embarassment and I am sad to say I wont be referring anyone else there. I understand we are in westport, in fairfield county, but the attitude and snobbiness exhibited was unnecessary. The sales person was so rude I was ashamed for her. Just not the same place it was. I'm a bride that had gone to 4 places around the area and hadn't found "the one" so when I had my appointment here, I was nervous this would be just another appointment, and i was SO wrong! From the moment my mom and I walked in, the front desk representative was offering us water or champagne. There is plenty of seating throughout the store, plenty of privacy for different groups and filled with dresses, more than I've seen elsewhere. Yvette was my representative and I wouldn't have wanted anyone else to help me through this experience. She was nothing short of amazing, patient, funny, warm, and a visionary! She let me pick out dresses I thought i'd be interested in but also was open about choosing some of her own for me to try....and the one I landed with, was one of the ones she picked! One of the things that stood out to me the most is they don't rush you. They take their time with you and it's all about YOU. I was very disappointed in the attitude of this dress shop. When I called for the appointment the first question was "do you want to spend $5,000 or $10,000 for a wedding dress"? Even with that rude question we still went to our appointment, and not being a stick thin bride I wasn't treated like a queen, is a size 6 too heavy? Took my business elsewhere, and yes I did say YES to the dress at Kleinfelds, where prices for same designer was less and had better service and attitude. I can not rave enough about this store, about the experience and about Yvette! I had already looked at some dresses at one other store and was starting to feel a bit hopeless after seeing the choices at the previous place. I did not want to settle, but I also really did not want to go through this process again of gathering up my friends and family, and going through the emotions (my mom passed away a few years ago so there are a lot of intense emotions going on) all over again. I was confused by the time I got to The Plumed Serpent because what I thought I really wanted from looking at Pintrest and photos, ended up not being what I loved when I tried on similar styles previously. Yvette assured me that once she got to know me as the appointment went on, she would be able to pull dresses she thought I would either like or look great in. She pulled some amazing dresses. Ones that I never thought I would ever like ended up looking fantastic on me! Yvette was so real, personal, professional, honest, and well educated about the designers and the dresses. She would introduce each dress that I tried on as I was coming out by explaining who the designer was, their background and any other details about the dress. That was really important for me. She spoke to each of my guests and myself as if she had known us for years. The experience at The Plumed Serpent was better than I could have ever imagined. I ended up saying YES! to the first dress I tried on. Not once did I feel rushed or pressured by any of the staff. I purchased my Monique Lhullier dress at The Plumed Serpent Bridal. I went in December for the Monqiue trunk show. The team was very nice and helpful. I purchased the dress with the 10% trunk show discount. Flash forward to 4/5 weeks before my wedding, and I still had not received my wedding dress. The store ordered my dress with the incorrect wedding date, and did not communicate with us this error and did not apologize for the delay. Once the dress came, the store said that the alterations would be appx $600... when we went to the tailor, the alternations were 2x that! The Plumed Serpent team never followed up after I emailed that the tailor said the dress would require a lot of work and was a big job... and that it was a rush to get it done before my wedding date. I wish I had just gone directly to Monique to purchase the dress, where the team would've understood the alterations needed and followed up with top notch service. read more

Love, love, LOVE this bridal salon!!! I am sad and surprised that not everyone had the same experience I did. I bought my dress (and alterations), veil, and accessories here after seeing pictures from my wedding photographer at a event she photographed. At no time did I feel like the level of customer service was below 5 stars, and I worked with multiple people (Leslie, Alison, Lisa). Since my mom lives out-of-town, we had planned a fun weekend with wedding dress shopping about 12 months from our wedding date. A couple months before that, I made an appointment at the Plumed Serpent b/c I was getting nervous I wouldn't find anything that weekend, and plus I had never tried on a wedding dress before. So my MOH came with me and I was assisted by Leslie. I had NO idea what I was looking for, except that I didn't want a ball gown. She helped me pick out dresses that would give me a great silhouette and pieces that I wasn't so sure of. The first dress I tried on was her suggestion...I thought it looked "ehh" on the hanger. Boy was I wrong...it fit and felt amazing, and that was the first time where I truly felt like bride. I was 99.9% sure it was the first dress, but kept trying on. At the end of the appointment, I found 2 dresses that I really liked and would want to come back to show my mom. I told her my situation and she was beyond great about it. She helped me make another appointment and booked marked those dresses. When we returned a couple months later, Alison helped me the rest of the way. She was so great, and we all loved her. She makes you feel like she is another one of your close girl friends, and who is just trying to make you look your best for your wedding day. I thought that I would just be trying those 2 dresses on, but she picked some additional ones after asking my mom, future mother-in-law, and bridesmaids what they envisioned what I would look like on my wedding day. At the end of the day, I did select that first dress from my previous appointment. It was such a fun afternoon with everyone, and the best experience of all the pre-wedding activities. I did not feel pushed or any attitude from either Alison or Leslie. They give you such an intimate, amazing appointment, and it is the ultimate experience. At the Plumed Serpent only a couple appointments can be scheduled at the same time, they have a great seating area for any sized shopping party (and serve wine/champs if you'd like!), and a huge "stage" area so you and your guests can marvel at all of the gorgeous dresses you try on. This cannot be compared to Klienfeld's in NYC, which is so overrated unless you like being shoved in a closet sized room in a long hallway of rooms, trying on dresses which are being passed from room to room (kind of funny as the place constantly says how many dresses they have in stock), while your guests are standing outside along with everyone else's guests, and a sales assistant who took her shoes off during the appointment and kept telling me how sick she was. As far as the price of dresses, they did inform me where the pricing started from when I made the appointment but were not snotty about it at all. They did help me stay with in my budget. I recommend this salon to all of my friends, as the experience was amazing!!! read more

RUDE! RUDE! RUDE! I did not even get past the phone call to make an appointment and the owner was extremely rude. I was describing a particular dress by a designer that we were interested in, when she told me the price I said " that it was out of our price range but I was certain that they could help us find a dress similar". She proceeded to laugh out loud at my statement! She then said in a very snobbish manner that there was no way to get a dress similar to that one. If they were at all looking to 'up sell' us into that dress, laughing at my statement certainly was not the way. I would NEVER recommend that anyone go here. The owner of the store needs a serious attitude adjustment. Rude to say the least. Not flexible at all. only cares about the 1000% mark-up and nothing else. I got the designer and model # of the dress. Shopped around with other bridal stores in the area. One store was so accomodating, that she was able to get the dress at a quarter of the price. Oh....and $750 for a veil? Really? I could make a nicer one out of mosquito netting from the Sports Authority. read more

I have never written a review before but feel this is necessary. I too experienced the ultimate service at the Plumed Serpent as my 8 bridesmaids were fitted for their dresses. It was what happened over the next two months that lead me to this post. The second time I went back to begin ordering the dresses the price had went up....they kindly held the price they had originally quoted me. To make a very long story short, over the next 6 weeks each bridesmaid was charged a different price as they one by one purchased their dresses. I received multiple emails from differest sales reps at the store telling me that certain girls had not placed their order yet even though they had. Each time I called concerned about the tracking of orders I was told someone would call me back and each time no one did. I had to follow up constantly with phone calls to the store, each time speaking with someone new who would once again give me a different story. Thus far I had kept my cool. Checks had to be distributed to each girl in different amounts that they had overpaid. June came and the dresses were in....the end of the nightmare or so I thought. My mom picked up 5 dresses, another bridesmaid had picked up her own. I later received an email that the remaining dresses were being held on account of a declined card! Why were dresses that were paid for being held, while the one that had a balance due was released?! Why had a card been declined over two months and ago and not one single attempt been made to make either myself, my sister (MOH) or the bridesmaid herself aware of the fact. Now alterations are being held up for girls who have paid for their dresses. The worst part of the story is when I called to speak with the owner I was told that she would not get on the phone with me nor would she call me back. This is the ultimate slap in the face to someone who has brought the business of 8 bridesmaids to her store. The attitude that was received from the store manager was overwhelming. I have worked in customer service for years and would not dream of speaking to a customer in such a manner. In speaking with a co-worker about my story she replied "they are known for their terrible customer service"...wish someone had told me this in the first plan, and so I say to you don't go to the Plumed Serpent if a pleasant customer experience is what you are looking for. Bridesmaid dress shopping with your girls should be the silver lining to all the stress that a wedding entails. Do yourself a favor and go elsewhere. read more

I have had an amazing experience thus far with buying my gown at this store! I went in with an appointment back in July after previously visiting two other stores, and Kim was assigned to helping me. She was extremely patient, pulling all sorts of dresses for me even though I was on the fence about what I wanted. She helped me honestly consider a number of different styles, never making me feel rushed or like I was bothering her going back and forth between gowns, and was up front about what was/wasn't in my budget so I didn't risk trying on something and falling in love only to find out it was beyond what I wanted to spend. Kim was also kind and discreet when I asked for a few private moments with my mom as we discussed prices and other details before making a decision, never once pressuring us just to make the sale. In the end, I went with the first dress I tried on! After selecting my gown the owner Allison got to chatting with my mom and I, and then spent quite a bit of time with my mom helping her look at mother of the bride gowns even though we hadn't made an appointment to do that. A few weeks ago I even popped back in to the store without an appointment to take another look at my gown, as I was concerned that one of the colors for a dress my mom was considering was too close to the ivory of my own dress. Kim again was super sweet and took a few moments to pull the dress out for us and help us make our decision on the color. It remains to be seen in terms of getting the dress here on time and having alterations done, but thus far I am nothing but thrilled to be working with TPSB and based on my experiences so far expect nothing less than continued great service! read more

What an amazing experience! this was the first time I was trying on wedding gowns and really didn't know what to expect. All I knew was that this boutique got great reviews and my future mother and sister in law said this would be the place to go. Well, they were right! From the moment we walked in, we were greeted with a smile and genuine kindness. My mom, future mother and sister-in-law, and I had to place to ourselves. The way Plumed Serpent handles appointments and guests is remarkable. I read horror stories that some brides went through at other places and I can't relate at all. Hayley was my bridal consultant. Awesome, sweet, kind, honest, helpful, and a knack for making you feel completely at ease even though I was nervous and excited all at the same time...these are just some of the things I can say to describe her. All the dresses we selected were gorgeous and surprisingly well below my budget. Again, I really didn't expect to "say Yes to the Dress" but it happened! Hayley was so attentive and assisted with the customization of my train and veil. It was such a pleasant experience and to have someones undivided attention to make you feel so special while going through this process was truly wonderful and I can't thank her and the other consultant enough (I forgot your name, but you were awesome too). After having visited numerous other bridal salons in NJ and NYC (Kleinfeld being one of them), I still had not found a dress that was "the one", nor had I had any overwhelmingly positive experiences in the bridal salons themselves. I decided to make an appointment at the Plumed Serpent because it's not too far from where I live, and their selection of dresses seemed to fit my taste exactly. I was not disappointed! From the minute I walked in, the service was warm, friendly and incredibly personal. Caitlin was my consultant, and she really took the time to get to know what I wanted and helped me narrow down the styles I was considering. I NEVER felt like I was being pushed to buy anything or say "yes to the dress", and I honestly didn't expect to buy a dress on that visit. But, when I tried on my dress, I knew it was the one. Caitlin helped me accessorize the look to get the full effect and gave me and my friends champagne to celebrate once I made it clear that I was choosing the dress.
