The roast beef Po-boy here is amongst the best in the area. My name is John and I love roast beef poor boys. For years I have been scouring the internet searching for bits of information on where to find the next great version. Thanks to a recent Nola.com article, I discovered The Po-Boy Company. The one thing I do not like is the lack of a website. To find a menu I was forced to go on Urbanspoon and that version was blurry. I really wish the menu at least was available online. Figuring they would have roast beef since it was featured in the article, I placed a call. When I arrived I discovered that the restaurant is all new on the inside. It is the type of place where you order at the counter and your food is brought out to you. The menu is pretty standard as far as po-boy places go and all of the mainstays are available. But I'm not here to talk about just any po-boy. My first bite into their roast beef was meaty bliss. The meat was obviously home cooked and not just slices of meat in watery gravy. The taste was just what one would expect in a great po-boy meaning that meaty garlicky flavor all New Orleanians have been raised to love. Besides the meat, the next most important thing about a good po-boy is the bread. Their version used the appropriate New Orleans style bread with the right amount of bite. They offered an extra crispy version, but I was interested in their standard offering. As far as dressing went, there was a perfect ratio of mayo and fillings to meat. That is the third most important factor when judging a po-boy. My one criticism of the sandwich was that I would have like more gravy. While flavorful, the addition of slightly more gravy would have set this sandwich even further apart from its competitors. In summary, come here if you want a great roast beef. read more

BEST and FAVORITE place for a Po-boy! And not just on the Northshore. I always order the Ferdi, which is a roast beef Po-boy with a slice of ham. I have tried the fried shrimp po-boy which is awesome too. The batter they use is very tasty and flavorful. Their fries are also battered and taste great! The owner cooks in the kitchen and is always around to greet customers if they aren't too busy, which is a great touch because of his pleasant personality and the fact that he cares if people really like the food. One other big aspect to The Po-Boy Co. is the interior of the restaurant. The decor is very simple, contemporary, and appetizing.. and everything is always very clean. Always a very nice experience. I'm shocked to see only 3 stars because this place makes AWESOME po boys. I'm a fanatic when it comes to a quality po boy and I had folks over at my home and we had Waitr deliver a bunch. Everyone loved them. My favorite was the oyster and catfish combo and I was shocked it traveled well - I figured it would be soggy by the time I got it but it was pure glory. Crisp shrimp and catfish that were very fresh. Bread was delightful and dressed just right. I got the spicy sausage as a hedge in case the seafood po boy wasn't good but I loved the seafood po boy and was full. I tried the hot sausage just to see if it was great too. It was awesome. My father in law just wanted a pedestrian type sandwich - turkey - and he loved it too. All 8 guests really enjoyed our meal. read more

A small family operation Mom & Pop in the kitchen kids working the register and tables. Dining room is small with a grand total of eight tables. Order at the counter and they bring it out. A smallish menu but all of the favorites are there. For me one of the most important things about a poboy is the bread and these guys always serve up a crispy loaf of French bread and fresh dressings. I suspect the family is Vietnamese, wish they offered some bahn mi options, but the poboys are solid. Definitely a good stop for lunch if you don't want to wait in line to get a quick and well done sandwich. read more

We stopped on thus little poboy shop on the way to do some pre-Christmas shopping. We had the Patton's hot sausage and shrimp poboys as well as fries and onion rings. Every thing we ate was awesome. The only negative part of our entire experience was the fountain beverages. I had water and my companions each had diet coke. I dumped the water after tasting it and after getting refills on their drinks my companions experienced the same problem with their beverages. They all had a very chemical taste, not sure what it was. Someone needs to address it immediately before they lose business. Other than that 1 hiccup we had a dining experience on par with any poboy shop in the general area. read more

Well, I do enjoy a good po-boy, and you'll find that here. We took the kids over for some sandwiches the other night and everybody was happy and full following the meal. The surf and turf is pretty good, although I prefer more shrimp and less roast beef, but the roast beef was tasty and the shrimp were big and fresh. Even with the gravy, the bread held up fairly well and, as is always a mark of a good meal, I was saddened when I got to the last bite. The large onion rings are LARGE. As noted, they are a bit greasy, but they're a deep fried, battered food, so expect some grease. The drinks out of the soda fountain all tasted like creme soda, which they were out of, ironically. All in all, a good place to eat except the prices are kinda high. For four of us to eat sandwiches and a kid plate, along with 5 drinks, the bill was around $75. I have to admit I haven't eaten out for poboys a lot recently, so the prices may be normal. Still, there was plenty of food, so don't let the price deter you from checking the place out! read more

Stopped by Saturday evening and the place was empty. That should have been my first clue. We ordered onion rings which I did enquire if they were fresh or frozen. They were fresh but a little greasy, but that could have been over looked if the rest of the meal was eatable. My roast beef was really salty and it was like 10 bucks. There was no meat on the sandwich. It was pretty much a Best Little Wherehouse Bar & Grill10 dollar salad sandwich. I was not happy. The Poboy Company puts out a decent Poboy, fries and onion rings. I opted for their surf & turf (shrimp & roast beef debris). It was good, but nothing special. The bread fell apart very quickly forcing me to use fingers or fork. The service was fine, as well, especially considering the very limited seating. Went there to check the place out & get something to eat. The place is small but neat and the staff was very helpful. They recommended the roast beef po boy which I got. My wife got a shrimp po boy. We both got small sandwiches. The roast beef was hot and juicy - very tasty, one of the best I've had. The shrimp were done to perfection. We split an order of fries. Burger poboy was overcooked and somehow dry even though I could taste the blend included some fat - also forgot the cheese. Apparently The Po-Boy Company is under New Management as of 3/1/18 but at least they got to keep the recipe book. Surf and Turf was as good as before and the onion rings were the same. The Ferdie was off a bit due to the white cheese not tasting like Swiss (white American). The roast beef was the same and very good. The other issue was cheap Chinese crap for sale on the counter and a tv blaring in the background changed instead of having music with just enough volume to have a conversation. I ordered the ferdie....now when you order a ferdie, you are ordering it cause you love the ham and melted Swiss taste with your roastbeef.... You are looking for that perfect balance between the ham, roastbeef, and Swiss...... Back to my actual order.....I ordered the ferdie because I like the taste of ham and roast beef and Swiss....I don't order a ferdie for a 95% roastbeef to 5% ham combo....how can you even taste the ham when you only put 1 or 2 thinly sliced pieces of ham on it? I don't even know where to begin with this review. I made a yelp account just to share with everyone how great of a place this is. 5 stars does not do The Poboy Company justice. After a game in 90 degree weather I was ready to eat a cow, however I settled on The Poboy Company. Since I was a couple miles away with construction in between I got there 10 minutes after they closed. After asking them nicely if they could make anything they happily agreed. I didn't want to hold them up too long so I changed my order from a fried oyster poboy to a roast beef poboy since they told me they always have roast beef. The chef looked at me funny and told me I could get anything I wanted, so I ordered the fried oyster. All the staff were wonderful, there were only 3 of them however they couldn't have been nicer to me. They all made me feel welcome and had smiles on their faces the entire time. Here's what I'm still in shock over, the manager handed me the bag with my poboy in it and gave me a free fries and small roast beef poboy, "just so you can try it". I've never witnessed such kindness and generosity from people in the restaurant business. I thanked them a million times as I left and am grinning like an idiot thinking about it right now. Can't forget about the food. The poboys were delicious, as I expected. I think if you got anything from there it would be delicious. Oysters were excellent and roast beef was worth dying for. And the fries were definitely better than most fries you get at a poboy joint. Conclusion: If you have a pulse and/or a digestive system this is the place to satisfy your hunger. So my wife and I were visiting from Seattle, WA and stopped here to eat our first Po Boy sandwich ever! Having just crossed the causeway coming up from New Orleans, we stopped in to grab a bite. For other reasons, my wife and I were feeling a little down in the dumps. We walked in and ordered our sandwhiches from Chad and his wife (the owners) and proceeded to talk about the area. After eating here, I can confirm two things -- there is a God and He has the nicest two angels making the best damn Po Boy sandwhiches around. :) Having eaten the worlds best Po Boys and talked with the nicest people, my wife and I left there feeling much better - thank you!
