This place is amazing. It is in a strip mall with limited parking. The outside is deceiving. Once you come inside, the store looks small with only a few tables for seating (maybe 12 seats) but the stairs leave you down to a huge bar with TVs, games, and plenty of seating. Also, they purchased the business besides them so they have a bar area upstairs as well. This place is huge. I sat at the new section and was pleasantly surprised that it is set up like a sports bar. Every crawfish season, I somehow find myself back at The Po Boy Shop in Decatur, and every time, I know I am likely signing up for inattentive service. Still, for the sake of crawfish on a Thursday, I give it another try. The setup is pretty much open seating, so you squeeze in where you can, which is fine. I was greeted promptly when I came in, but after being seated, that was about the last I saw of my server. I understand that the staff may help each other out, but no one really stopped by to check in, refill drinks, or make sure everything was going well. As for the crawfish, this first boil of the season was disappointing. They were mediocre at best and noticeably overcooked. Quite a few were already dead, so I did not eat those. The standout, as always, was the corn. The corn and the sides continue to be the best part of the bowl and were easily more enjoyable than the crawfish themselves. I am hoping this was just an off day because I may give them one more chance this season, but this visit did not leave much of an impression in a good way. Truly my favorite restaurant in Decatur. I've tried almost all the Po'Boys here and they are all really good. I'd say the alligator Po'boy is my favorite. For drinks I always get the 22oz purple voodoo. It's a great deal, really strong, tastes great, and you get to keep the souvenir cup. The lighting in the basement bar provides such a fun ambiance to the place. They also have a pool table, darts, and some arcade games to play on. They also have enough TVs that no matter where you are sitting you'll be able to see all the games that are on. It's a great spot for a date or even just to get your friends together. I've also been here several times and have never had any problems with a waiter. Everyone who works there seems really nice. And if you don't want to sit down and eat you can order your food to go upstairs. read more

Bread pudding still hits the spot! Even if you have never been a fan (I was not), the bread pudding here will change your mind. I brought three to go to bring to my front desk staff. Service was prompt and I enjoy the secret bar in the basement which you access by the staircase to the left of the register. We got seated right away since it wasn't that busy for a Thursday afternoon. We shared their Crawfish pie, alligator po boy, and debris po boy. The pie was really good, but definitely on the small side. Comes out piping hot so be careful. So it's crazy that I've been to this place several times and have yet to write a review smh. A coworker put me on to this place many moons ago and it has always been clutch! This time, I ordered the Country Fried Cajun Chicken Wings, and once again, they did not disappoint. They were a good size, extra crispy, and packed with flavor--definitely the highlight of my meal. I also tried a cup of gumbo, but unfortunately, it wasn't to my liking. It didn't look or taste like the typical gumbo I'm used to, so that was a bit of a letdown. Po'Boy is a totally iconic establishment. Unfortunately for all of us, it knows it's an iconic establishment, and the prices reflect that. I got the cheapest Po'Boy (chicken) for $18 + tip. My friend got another Po'Boy for $20. In all, we spent nearly $50 on just two footlongs. The food and service was good, but in no world are two subs worth that. My guess? They started hiking the prices and all the Emory kids spending their parents' money just kept on coming like lambs to the slaughter. More power to them--I'd do the same. I'm mad I haven't been here before now, there is a basement y'all with a nice bar area, pool tables, etc. They have plenty of TVs to watch the games and the food is banging. The fried pickles taste like the ones I used to get in Texas, nice and salty. There's plenty of seating downstairs, as well as games (i.e., billiards) and television screens to fill the hearts of sports fans. Service can be slow or fast downstairs--I think it depends on the time and the server. I ordered the Fried Pickles and snacked on a Popcorn Shrimp Po'Boy that my friend had ordered. So some of my favorite food is Cajun and someone put me onto this spot. The front part of the shop is a regular storefront. It looks like a carryout type of situation. There's free parking so you'll come in and park and walk in the front and order and wait for your food or sit at the tables that they give. It also has a "hidden" bar, which is something that I gravitate toward on a regular. The downstairs basement area is about at least 10 times bigger than the upstairs part. Coming in. Looking to your left, you see a door that leaves downstairs and there's signs that say the basement. So it's not something that you are looking at straight away but you really can't miss it. The top floor has a few seats, inside and outside, but space is very limited. Maybe only like 5 tables on the inside. The basement has tons of seating, pool tables, TVs, and mad space. You can order food in the basement area if you would like to, they'll give you a number and you'll sit at the table. You can order from the bar, watch some TV, or play pool. It's much more lively. Just to know, there's also a back entrance that goes straight to the basement bar versus going to the front entrance and walking downstairs. So there's parking on both sides that's also free so just keep that in mind. If you come around the back of the building, you can still go in. Crystal wings - I thought the wings were okay. They really want fried as hard as I would like they were definitely seasoned. Well and very meaty. If they fried them with a little more time in the fryer, they would come out a little more gold and crispy and they would have been great. You get a choice of ranch or blue cheese and you get celery with it as well. Boudin balls - Now these were actually really good and they were exactly fried to perfection. It came with a spicy mustard sauce, but she added a little extra kick to it but the flavor was really good. The texture was really good. They were very crispy and full of meat. You get about a handful of them, but they were actually a really nice size as well. I would get these again. Half and half po boy - So I got the sandwich that had oyster and shrimp. Both of them were fried and it came with a remoulade sauce and lettuce and tomatoes. The sandwiches are really good size, you only need one of the regular size sandwiches. You should be good to go. Everything was flavorful and tasty. I would love to try more of their sandwiches but I don't have any issue with the sandwich that I got! French fries - was it really overwhelmed by the french fries. They were like steak fries cut very flat. Nothing special, I probably would need to get the fries again on my next order. Overall, this spot definitely asked some things that I want to try. But what I've had has been really good already. So think of it as a sports bar setting in the basement. So I enjoyed all of that and look forward to more of what they have to offer. read more

The atmosphere was very laid back and exactly what I was looking for on a Wednesday night. We ordered fried prickles and Cajun meat pies for our appetizers and they were amazing! We also ordered a shrimp po'boy and a crawfish po'boy (both with sides of fries). The remoulade sauce is spicy (if you have digestive/inflammation issues like me, do NOT risk it because they unfortunately do not have a mild version). The fries were surprisingly great! I was nervous because of the shape but they somehow worked. I also had a cut of the bread pudding which was great but was on the heater/hot plate a little too long because the top part was a little dried out while the inside was super warm and moist. First date experience. First time here ever and I've never heard of it before. I'll be back. It's a unique establishment bcos when you walk in it doesn't seem large or like a sit-in restaurant. Very smart to keep takeout orders upstairs. Tables were plenty. It's first come, first serve & family style. You just sit at any open seat even next to strangers. Lots of TVs mounted, pool tables, casino slots, & music. We ordered few things to taste. Two Poboys, crawfish étouffée and boudin balls. It was all tasty, but not like New Orleans. The Hurricane seemed smaller than I expected but it packed a powerful punch. We had to share ours!! - 1 star due to ridiculous noise level. I couldn't hear the person across from me. The lady at the register told us that there was a downstairs, aka basement, with more tables, TVs, and a bar if we wanted to sit there. Of course we chose the basement option. Walking into the basement gives you a little bit of Mardi Gras vibe with the colors and decorations, it was also more lively with the TVs and the conversations of the people down there. I like the concept and believe it was executed well. We chose a table and while we waited for a server we grabbed a few more menus since there was only one at the table. For appetizer, I chose fried pickles and my sister ordered crawfish pies, and we ordered a round of waters for the table. Our server also brought over a couple of drink menus. For our meals, my sister and I ordered the regular fried vegetarian po boy, and she got fries. My dad ordered the small blackened catfish po boy with fries. My husband ordered the regular alligator po boy with fries. 2 beers and a lemon drop were also ordered. Crawfish pies were ok. Could've used a little more flavor. PLEASE NOTE: This review is only about the 3rd-party ATM machine in their restaurant. Somebody skimmed my card at their ATM. The withdrawals pictured at the Po Boy's ATM were mine and are only to show that I'm not making it up that I used their ATM. I used it to withdraw rent money, even though I was warned by a local not to do it. So far, not listening to that advice has cost me $3100 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ MY $3100 BEER AT THE POBOY RESTAURANT ON CLAIRMONT RD. I asked a local where to get a quick beer to wait for traffic to go down. She said The Po'Boy Shop, but she warned that lots of Emory students were saying they had problems with their ATM cards after going there. I didn't listen. This is what happened to me after using their ATM machine to withdraw rent money: Over $900.00 in cash was stolen via multiple ATM machines on Cheshire Bridge Rd. within 20 minutes. I was paying for *FIVE* Ubers running at the same time all over Atlanta; I was paying for an $1100 hotel suite at a hotel; I bought $120 in gas while I was riding MARTA on the way home; I paid another $135 at a liquor store; I paid $135 for Uber Eats and $155 for a taxi; I spent $300 at a strip club and $175 at a different strip club; I bought a fancy steak dinner; and I paid for some girl's car repair and also her rent, because I guess she just meant that much to me... evidently I also attempted to buy her jewelry, but my money had run out. My bank and I are still adding the total up; so far it has cost me $3100, and my bank says 5 more charges are still pending. Lesson Learned: Even if it is a local favorite restaurant, avoid using 3rd-party ATM machines, especially ones placed in dark places where someone can put a card skimmer on it. It's also really bad for the business' reputation. Message to Owner: If locals are warning strangers about your ATM machine, then surely you should have also heard complaints. It paints you, as the business owner hosting that machine in your restaurant, as either indifferent or out-of-step with what Emory students are warning the public about. In the worst possible light, people might even think you are aware of the complaints- thinking that it's your own ATM machine, or owned by a business friend, etc. Federal banking laws stipulate that if you have been made publicly aware of possible wire fraud occurring in your establishment, then you can face up to $30,000 in fines per incident (I did 4 withdrawals), along with 15-30 years of federal imprisonment. You can lose your right to own a business forever, in any state, and be banned from owning a stake or even a minority partnership with any business that handles money of any kind - even a nonprofit. You can be denied home and life insurance, and real estate brokers, CPAs, and retirement advisors may refuse to do business with you. read more
