There's nothing flashy about the Point Tavern, but you just can't find a local Providence bar with a nicer group of bartenders or patrons. Ample space and moveable tales for bigger groups and fair prices. Not so loud that you can't have a conversation with a coworker or friend, and not so quiet that it's awkward or empty feeling. Nice decor, clean, intimate-feeling. I agree with the previous reviewer that the food (a new addition in 2014) is really hitting it out of the park. The Point is my favorite spot in Providence. A great place to meet up with friends no matter the season. They have THE BEST bartenders in the city. I have never had a bad drink...even when they are super busy. The atmosphere at the point is classy, but also not so uptight that you feel awkward getting loose there. The music is always great and it varies from genre to genre. The lighting is dim and; while the point is small, there usually seems to be places to sit and relax. There's a definite old school vibe going on in there. I would recommend The Point over any other spots on Fox Point. It's definitely a place to get away from the riff-raff of the whole "Thayer Street" scene and Whiskey Republic Crowd. read more

I really love it here, the bartenders are awesome and their drinks are creative and always using fresh ingredients which I love, it's open late and they have delicious food, smoked wings and BBQ .. out of this world ! The only thing that was a little strange was the ordering system, the food is on a completely separate tab and you go and order it at the end of the bar from someone working in the kitchen, you also get your own forks and napkins at a little counter near by. I just kind of wish everything could be all on one tab, it would make it a little less chaotic and confusing especially when they are really busy. read more

Came here for my best friend's birthday a few weeks ago and had a great time! The drink menu was great and there was a good crowd even though it was a Sunday. The people seem friendly enough. It is relaxing atmosphere. There are a good selection of smooth music. It was nice to see different people and be in a different environment. My barber brought me here. This is his spot. I like it. Kind of quite but it is Wednesday. Once I make a repeat visit I can me a better judgement. I will give a higher rating if they are consistent. My family and I came up from New York, and craved a small bite to eat. We found The Point Tavern, and ordered some brunch and a few drinks. The drinks were fine and all, but we waited an hour for two breakfast sandwiches and two avocado toasts. The avocado toast was very hard, and the sandwiches were just alright, but waiting an hour when we were the only people eating there was absurd. The bartenders are always friendly and efficient, the drink menu has good options and pretty average in terms of pricing, and the drinks themselves are well made. Good selection of beer/liquor. The bathrooms are clean, which is a plus for a bar/pub. They have sports games on the TVs and play really good music, so it feels like there is something for everyone. My absolute favorite place on the east side for drinks. Perfectly proportioned mixed drinks, good beer, mini bottles of champagne to start the night off with...or as a nightcap.. Always served by a fun bartender. Regarding an earlier review, this isn't a gay bar (though not prejudiced by any means). The Point Tavern is a low key bar which was practically empty on a Saturday night. The interior looks newly finished and really classy. The beer menu was decent, prices were cheap and the bartender was friendly, offering us "snacks". The best part of this place was the back patio. Great drinks, divided atmosphere so you can do tables or bar. NO FOOD- but you can bring in your own, or I've even had pizza delivered! The owner is regularly in manning the ship and I like that. Great patio! Happy Hour from 5-7 with half off bar food! With that being said, I don't think I'd pay full price for the food. The black bean quesadilla was good and the sliders were good (according to the person who ate them). Quesadilla came out with whopping side of sour cream and salsa too. Thanks. I'll warn against the pizza unless you like thin crust, cracker style. We got the buffalo chicken and it wasn't what I expected. Let down. Again it was $7 but $14 full price. I've had almost all of the mixed drinks here, and they're surprisingly delicate and balanced. My friends say the beer list is solid. But what i really love about this place is the courtyard in the back. It's lovely, but not overwrought. Furthermore, it's usually lively on quiet nights, contributing to its charm. The point tavern is a nice little bar. It's pretty quiet, low key, and the crowd is a little older than the typical college bars in the area. The bartenders are nice and the drinks are fairly priced. The back patio is nice too! The music can be hit or miss, not sure who makes those decisions but we had to move outside due to a little too much Adele. The Point is my go-to bar. The ambience is casual, and it's always a perfect level of busy and noisy without being too busy or noisy. I've never had trouble getting a table either inside or out back on the patio. They keep about 6-8 beers on tap and maintain a list of seasonal cocktails in addition to a wine list. The staff is friendly and efficient. I've only ever eaten a piece of a pizza there and it wasn't phenomenal but the burgers look decent. I wouldn't go there for dinner, but it is nice to have food as an option. Overall, very solid place. read more

So I'm not one to usually complain in yelp, but my friend and I were looking for a place to eat and we came across this place. When ordering food, the bartender working that night had terrible customer service. He was busy but it wasn't packed. On the menu there was something called a mix greens pizza. This is my watering hole! It's a beautiful bar without being pretentious - no TV clutter, either. Great outdoor area as well. It does get pretty loud and crowded later in the evening, but you'll usually have elbow room up until 9:00PM. Very good mix of patrons too, so you won't feel out of place. Staff, music, food, all great. Prices are also very good, especially relative to the area, and I'm often undercharged a drink. This is a nice place with a pretty classy look to it. There are a large selection of beers on the menu mostly bottles but they have around 6 to 8 on tap. It looks like this place serves about as much wine as beer, although I can't speak to the quality of the selection. Smallish though. This has got to be my favorite bar in Providence. It's small, warm and cozy, and the service is great. It occasionally can be packed with college students and/or locals, but it is the best low-key place to get a drink on the East Side, especially when the weather isn't great. The Point might just be the perfect bar. No frills or gimmicks, just a great selection of drinks served by a top notch bar staff in a friendly, low-key atmosphere. And you can't beat the prices! Founders Porter and Lagunitas Little Sumpin' Sumpin' bottles for only $4. Generous signature cocktails for $7. Dave, the bartender, was terrific--really knowledgeable and charming. My wife and I particularly liked the low lighting and the feeling of privacy amidst the crowd. We will definitely be coming back. read more
