We got flaming espresso martinis.(I was skeptical since I'm not the biggest espresso martini person (has to be made right, not too sweet, etc.) I actually really enjoyed this one. The bartender was pretty cool, but the restaurant was busy but service was still great The restaurant itself sits slightly below street level, but is not exactly underground. Food/Drinks: I've been here multiple times, and they have the best martinis. I feel like finding a spot where the martinis are very strong but also extremely tasty is really difficult, and they honestly do an amazing job! I'm also not just talking about their signature martinis with the names. They have different types of martinis and fruity ones as well, and those are just as delicious, maybe even a little better than their signature ones, which always hit the spot regardless. I usually come here to chitchat with friends and catch up for drinks, so I haven't gotten huge meals, but I've heard that the food is delicious, and I definitely will be coming back to try it. I did try their charcuterie board, and it's so delicious and filling, and perfect for picking at a little something while you have your delicious drinks. Location: This location is right in the heart of downtown PVD. This place definitely gives more business casual vibes, but you can definitely dress up to go on a date. If I'm not mistaken, Friday and Saturday nights definitely have more of a club vibe after a certain time, but during the week, I've also gone before, and it's very low-lit, romantic, and honestly perfect for any occasion, especially with the type of drinks they have! Parking can be a little difficult because it's downtown, but you can always try to get street parking with a little walk. I honestly find parking down the street, and it's not that hard. There's also parking you can pay for right on the corners, so there are different ways of finding a place to park. Taking an Uber would be a great idea as well, so you don't have to deal with anything and can drink as much as you want. They do not have valet. Service: The service has always been super friendly and very accommodating. Honestly, all the times that I've gone, they've been very helpful with helping us get seats and just giving us a great experience, even with how busy it gets. I had never been to Layali, and had heard so many good things, so I decided to give it a try. Overall, I had a very pleasant experience! I had the flaming espresso martini, which they write your name on it in chocolate, and it was very good! For food, the hot olives and hummus and pita chips were the perfect appetizers. We also had a special app (fried pork dumplings), which were delicious. For meals, we had the chicken kabob entree and a kefta kabob entree (they kindly allowed me to substitute kefta in instead of chicken), both of which hit the spot. Both entrees came with hummus, pita, and rice pilaf; only qualm was that the pita seemed to be stale. In terms of ambiance, it was not too loud and would be nice for dinner and drinks with a date or a friend. Service was also good, however, I felt like we were checked on a little too heavily (it felt like every 10 minutes); however, our server was very nice and was probably just being kind. Our experience at Layali was pretty disappointing unfortunately. We were able to get a table quickly, which was a plus. Service was also generally good. I was disappointed because I had heard good things about the restaurant, so I'm hoping our experience isn't the norm. The food and drinks were mediocre. The burger was very dry and not cooked well. The patty itself was charred so much that it was completely black on the outside, which made it bitter. I ordered it medium rare and there was maybe a square inch that was medium. The chicken sandwich was good, nothing outstanding. The best part of the meal was the crispy Brussels sprouts! The cocktail I had (a speciality lemon blueberry option) was just okay. It didn't have a lot of flavor other than alcohol and a little sweetness. The space was also SO loud. It was a Saturday night around 8/9, so I expect it to be busy. However, there was loud music playing which also caused everyone to speak loudly. My husband and I couldn't even hear each other from across the table. I came here for my birthday and it was such an excellent choice for a birthday dinner! For one, I have been on a martini kick this summer. I guess I have finally matured to the point of enjoying hand-crafted cocktails. Of course, when I saw the flaming espresso martini, I had to have it. First off, they write your name in chocolate on the top, then float some sort of flammable alcohol in the center on a little boat of a half moon chocolate. Can we say decadent? It was delicious, as was my lobster ravioli, which was rich, and creamy and a large enough portion that I had leftovers. This is a small place, just a one room restaurant with maybe a dozen tables inside. We made a reservation kind of early on a Thursday and had no problem getting in, but I can bet this place is packed on the weekends. We brought my teenage son with us, and not that this is really a family place, but they were able to accommodate his picky eating habits with some plain pasta in butter that he really enjoyed. If it's not already, Layali should definitely be on your list for your next date night or Girls' night out. read more

First time at Layali, had birthday dinner for a friend. Group of 6, made reservations online; received a call to confirm the day before, which was really nice! It's located downtown and as usual, parking is horrible ! Unless you want to pay 15+ to park at a lot or garage (lots of those near restaurant) you have to drive around and pray to find a spot. The hostess at restaurant was great! She greeted me right away and was understanding that i was waiting for the others in my party. We got sat in the back corner; our waitress was nice but i felt bad for her since half my party was super late (due to traffic/parking) and we didn't want to order until they got there. We decided to order a few things to share; all the food was delicious ! From calamari to ravioli, everyone loved each option. We brought a cake and the restaurant had no issue holding it in the back and bringing it out after we ate. They brought out cake knive and plates; thete wasn't any cake/cutting fee that many restaurants offer. After 9pm they turned the lights down and the vibe felt more like a lounge; it got way busy too. Parking is kind of tough due to how many businesses are in this one area. Really used to love this place but after Saturday night's experience, we won't be back. We request this establishment and have also enjoyed it there. Saturday night, we ordered drinks and were sat by the owner. 5 mins or so into our visit, the server asked us to get up because he had a reservation. I had take about two sips of my drink, there was zero standing room so I had to leave the drink I just ordered and paid for. The interaction was very strange and seemed like the server just wanted to give the table to someone he knew. We were paying customers and I am offended that we couldn't even finish our drink. Been here twice. I def prefer it during the week because the weekends is overcrowded, super loud music and all college age kids in here. I like a more intimate setting and it was just a bit wild the second time we came. The mojitos r awesome, the calamari is very good and I even ate the friend orange which was surprisingly yummy! The warm olives r good but they are not pitted! So it can be a pain if u dnt wanna have to spit the seeds out. My friend ordered some fancy shot that they lit on fire and he had to blow it out, the whole place started ordering them after that. I like the fact that the tables have candles but one young girl at another table put her hair in it by mistake and the whole place smelled of burning hair for 15 mins. The waitress we had the second time was so accommodating and nice, she was on top of everything and very quick. The first time we came it was quiet that night but I remember being checked on often. Parking isn't fun but it's providence so it sucks everywhere lol. U do get carded at the door when u enter. One bathroom for male and one for females.... This is another reason I dnt like the weekends here, these young college kids would take 5 friends in the bathroom together and be in there forever while the line would just back up to the point people had to just use whateva room was available. The bathrooms could be checked in on a little more frequently, my friend had no toilet paper or paper towels when she had gone in. I had to use the men's room because the party of 5 girls doing god know what in the ladies room was in there for 20 mins and I couldn't wait anymore. The men's room wasn't the cleanest but.... I discovered Layali purely by accident! My friend and I had made arrangements to dine elsewhere in the area one evening and turned out that spot had closed for the week for renovations. I was looking for another option for outdoor dining in the neighborhood and happened upon Layali. We were NOT disappointed in the change of plans. I enjoyed a delicious blueberry sage (I think it was?) margarita. We split the calamari and both ordered the shrimp spaghetti. The spaghetti was far and away the highlight of the evening. We were both really impressed that such a simple dish could be so fantastic and flavorful. It was very saucy and just perfection. I am drooling just thinking about it! The only reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 is that although most of the staff we encountered were EXCEPTIONALLY friendly and helpful, the actual server assigned to our table was nice but not overly friendly or warm. It was totally fine and we still had a wonderful meal but his lack of exuberant warmth was noticeable next to the other super super friendly and helpful staff. Layali is located in downtown Providence. It's the epitome of a nice, sultry cocktail bar/restaurant. I recently visited Layali to celebrate a birthday with a large party (8 people). Reservations were made ahead of time. Our waitress was very nice and attentive. She was extremely helpful when it came to navigating the menu and recommending good drinks and food to try. I ordered one cocktail, Thyme For Some Mezcal ($12), and the Lobster Ravioli (~$24) for dinner. The cocktail blended the nice and earthiness of the thyme with the smokiness and charred taste of the Mezcal. If you like Mezcal, this is a drink you must try! My Lobster Ravioli was phenomenal. It's the real brag of this post. Real chunks of lobster packed into fresh raviolis all mixed into this delicious pink vodka cream sauce. It's one mouthwatering dish! read more

I visited this restaurant twice in one week while visiting for business in mid-September 2024. The only reason I went back a second time is because it was the closest place to my hotel, and I didn't feel like traveling far. I enjoyed the chicken parm on my first visit, and a filet on the second visit. The chicken parm was great, nice and tender, the breading was crispy, and the sauce had a good flavor. The sides were decent, but had room for improvement, they weren't the freshest veggies. The filet wasn't as good as the chicken parm, it had gristle which should not exist in a filet. It was cooked to the correct medium rare temp. Mashed potatoes were dry and barely warm. Chocolate cake was dry. A major issue I had, in addition to the disappointing food, was with the manager sitting at the largest booth in the corner, with a "Reserved" sign and stacks of paperwork, akin to a desk. Not only was she using the dining room as her office on both nights, on the second visit she was smoking a vape pen the entire time, which interrupted my meal with a chemical stench. Not cool. Next time I will travel to find a better place. read more

This place fell off on so many categories. The menu changed and so did much of what they had. Originally visited in 2019. Martini's we're on point, the garnish and flavor were untouchable. Today they offer a full menu besides appetizers, but now have a small list of special drinks. The drinks were not impressive, similar to what you find at Applebee'sor Chilli's. Second, the service is strapped for the amount of tables they have now. They are maximizing seating from a bar to a restaurant format with reservation options. Which for a bar doesn't make sense.
