Great place with happy hour specials. The chili eggs are incredible. The drinks are balanced craft cocktails. I really liked the newtons law and the expression martini. We tried the chipotle grilled chicken sandwich. It was very good with, topped with avocado, bacon, and cheese. The bartender was great and the atmosphere is a relaxed speak easy vibe. Update: Came back for a second visit and happy to report it was a much better experience all around! We stopped in right when they opened on a Sunday afternoon and grabbed seats at the bar. Our server was great! He was attentive and personable, which made all the difference. On the drinks side, I had a craft beer draft of Star Light, a collaboration brew between Trillium and Equilibrium. Absolutely delicious! I would highly recommend if it's on tap or you can find it. For food, we went with the Korean Chicken Sando, which was excellent, and caught a half-priced Steak Skewers appetizer that was a perfectly cooked medium-rare and honestly fantastic. A great deal on top of a great dish. Glad we gave The Red Door another shot. This visit showed the real potential of the place. Will definitely be back. read more

Great little bar to enjoy a few drinks with friends. Before ten then have regular food menu and switch to late night menu till midnight. Good mix of music in background does not overpower casual conversation. It is a darker lit bar that adds to the ambiance. There is small amount of street parking out front If you are lucky enough to score. Service was quick, friendly and professional. My friend and I went to Red Door recently. She is doing RI Food Fights best of sandwiches so I tagged along. Her burger looked good (not pictured) and seemed very flavorful. The sweet potato tots were delicious and I enjoyed the red fries. I had the mezze plate as my main and the hummus, tabouli, and falafel were good. Not the best falafel I have ever had but I enjoyed it. Drinks were good and service was great. Our waiter's name was Dylan and he was great with offering suggestions and laughing with us. We also ate the crème brûlée for dessert which was great. We went for happy hour so it was super adorable. When I got home though, I was sooooo thirsty. Had a great time! Sat at the bar, it felt cozy on a cold winter night. Drinks were delicious. Poutine hit the spot. (I still miss red fez poutine but this is the best I've found since they closed). The sliders I got were great - I took most of it home and it was even better an hour later on my couch. I was surprised it wasn't more crowded (it was a few weeks back on a Friday night) but it did get a bit busier as the night went on. We were well taken care of. Would go again. Not a fan of Providence, but this place is pretty cool. Dark bar with a warm atmosphere and proper service. Great draft beer selection and innovative mixed drinks. Prices aren't too bad, especially being the downtown of a "so-called" major city. This used to be the old Fez, which a spot I frequent in my younger days. They did a nice job not screwing it up. Very intimate bar - I came with a group of friends for a birthday and we sat in a round, couch arrangement so we could all face each other. Each cocktail we ordered was good - especially the Firebird and the Lost Tropics. They also have several options for shareable bites. I visited The Red Door with my husband as part of the RI Food Fights Big Burger Blowout event, and I am glad to say that we found a little gem in PVD! The Red Door is a small speakeasy spot nestled in downtown Providence. It's dark and intimate inside with a mix of seating including booth, bar, and hightop. We were there on a Wednesday night, so it wasn't super busy. With our burger coupons, we each got to pick an order of sliders from their menu. We also ordered the Chicken Satay and the happy hour Eggs Possessed. The sliders came 2 in an order and, wow, they were so good! First of all, the portion was very generous for sliders. There was a bigger patty in 1 slider than we've had in some full size burgers. I had the Mini-Macs which were smash patties topped with American cheese, white onion, pickles, shredded lettuce, and house made Mac sauce. The flavors melted in mouth in the most delicious way, the beef was cooked really nicely, and that sauce was special; I loved them! The Eggs Possessed (deviled eggs) were amazing! Best I've ever had. The egg white was still tender and the filling was so creamy with a little kick to it. The chicken satay was also really, really tasty. Great mix of textures going on in the plate and the sauce was wonderful and had a nice heat level. Our waitress, who was also working the bar, was so nice and inviting. I made a point to tell her that it was our first visit and how impressed we were with the food. She was excited to hear our thoughts and was in total agreement about their delicious dishes. I loved everything we had at The Red Door! Prior to this visit, I had no idea this restaurant existed. But, it was happy discovery as I'd love to go back for a date or girls night. Walking in the door here brought back such a rush of memories from so long ago... So many nights, huddled in a corner of this packed space, with a group of friends, yelling to one another over the crowd while slurping delicious noodles. Ah.... those were the days! Tonight everything is different - in a good way. The softly lit space has been reconfigured and is simplified - less cluttered, less crowded. On a slow week night, just a few couples are scattered around, sipping craft cocktails and quietly chatting. An apropos eclectic soundtrack of downtempo music helps set the mood. The friendly & super efficient bartender effortlessly flits between crafting drinks to serving tables - alone on the floor tonight & handing it very well. She even seems to make time to chat with everyone. We even end up eventually showing off our newly acquired comet pics taken on the way that evening. But - we're there to try the tacos as part of the RI Food Fights Tacomania competition tonight and we're glad we do! We order a pair of each - the Coconut Shrimp and the Steak Tacos. Both are delicious! The steak is tender and juicy, delicately spiced. The shrimp, chopped into chunks & fried until crisp are delicious with the sweet spicy mango topping. An order of Mac & Cheese ends up being a perfect compliment - the salty, creamy sauce cutting perfectly through the spice of the tacos. We can't wait to return for another date night. My partner & I are reminded that our very first date was just down the block at a now long departed bar, decades ago. This would make a fine replacement. read more

We were walk-ins on a Saturday night around 5:30pm, 4 of us, took 4 open seats at the bar. Dark / dimly lit, good background music playing, my kind of place. Numerous drinks were ordered and enjoyed, great bartenders here, and the prices are very reasonable for a downtime bar / restaurant. The Food? Their menu is great, no huge entrees, just smaller apps / single serving or shareable dishes. This was my first time at Red Door and wow is this place cool. I went here when it was the red fez and I like the set up now so much better. One of the bartenders knew exactly who would be leaving shortly so we could snag a seat. This was apparently a rare Friday night that wasn't crazy crowded. It was a bar so it was loud, but I could easily hear the people next to me. You know you're in Rhode Island when you have a favorite bartender at one place, and you walk into a new place and recognize them behind the bar! Cassandra is a DELIGHT and made me a special off menu cocktail that was like a peach cosmo... so balanced and not too sweet. We ended up having friends join us and there was something on the menu for everyone. The bar staff was very flexible with any substitutions or adjustments made to the order. All and all this place gets an A+ and will definitely be seeing more of me in the future! read more

You know you're old when you realize you've been to the same location through 3 different name changes and 4 different decades! Thee Red Fez is a hard act to follow but The Red Door did not disappoint. We sat at the downstairs bar for our 4th stop on the RI Food Fights Burger Blowout challenge. The downstairs room is gorgeous! And very, very dark. Like so dark we sat at the bar because it was all we could see, coming out of the sun. And then they turned the lights even lower, lol. I mention it because some might find the low light and QR code ordering off putting. Natural selection to weed out Boomers and Gen X I guess. Luckily I'm young at heart and not easily deterred. Our bartender was nice and his recs were dead on. The BBQ Sliders I ordered jumped to the top of my list so far. The poutine was tasty but stretching the definition of pouting. Not exactly Curds and brown gravy But heck, still a tasty version of fries and cheese. Definitely want to go again and try some cocktails. Just want to give a shout out to the red door - a special item on the menu is probably the best kept secret dish in Providence - it's a poutine but not like what you've had before ... Matchstick fries are yummy with a few melty cheese curds... but the real Secret Sauce is the delicious chourico gravy... This is a spectacular taste for a great price... The salad was very good as was the calamari & buffalo chicken bites. The poutine was good but was over salted, I am hoping that was a one off issue that will be better next time. As a long time RI resident, I was sad to see the Red Fez close and even more delighted to see a new restaurant open in the space. My husband and I went for dinner on a Thursday night to the new, dimly lit cozy space. In the center is a bar with open seating with a few small tables lit in candlelight surrounding it. You could come for a meal or simply sit at the bar for a custom cocktail. The chef, resident Jimmy James, had just launched a new menu, and I have to say the fries were amazing. I could have eaten buckets of them. We also tried the spicy mushroom sandwich, which was admittedly pretty spicy but also crispy and delicious. As an homage to the old Red Fez, the playlist cranked out old punk and rock tunes that made me feel like nothing had changed. Great spot for food and live music. Came here on a Monday night. Got the Oaxacillin and the you and yours. Liked both of them though I liked the Oaxacillin better. It definitely has strong flavors but balanced. They also have 'hell week going on, and I got the voodoo chicken which tasted spicy but quite flavorful. They have live music upstairs with jazz music on Mondays and a DJ on Friday/ Saturdays. More of an intimate, close vibe upstairs. Would recommend checking this place out. read more
