Love going to diamond head General store, this time came for the musubi they surprisingly had mochi strawberry that was very good If you come early, you'd be lucky to get a seat inside. The service is pretty good nonetheless. And be sure to arrive early to grab a parking spot

This is the first time I've tried this place since it converted from Morning Wood and it was a pleasant experience! When you walk in, there are different types of musubis for grab and go. There was a line of maybe 3-4 people which didn't take too long. I ordered 2 mochiko chicken plates and one furikake mahi. The chicken dishes came out pretty quickly, but for some reason the employee got the right name on 1 plate and put "Stephanie" on the other plate - so I was standing there for maybe 20 minutes before I followed up with them and got it sorted out. The dishes were very generous in portion. I was able to share my single plate with my mom and still feel full. This is definitely more of a take out restaurant. There are a handful of tables but on a weekend, expect the tables to be taken. Their parking lot has also always been small, so I had to park on the street - ECR, but it wasn't difficult at all to find street parking on the weekend I went. I did enjoy the grocery section - I was able to buy some furikake and mirin powder. Maybe a little pricier than groceries but really good for convenience. Overall, I had a pleasant first experience and the food was really tasty. I did notice they had a catering menu, so I'll keep them in the back of my mind next time I need to get food for a party!

I love this Hawaiian general store/restaurant. My friend and I arrived early so we had a choice of tables but the tables filled up fairly quickly. They have a good menu selection, portions are very generous. Food is served in takeaway containers because there is no way you can eat the whole thing in one sitting unless you are sharing. We ordered her two favorites: two Fried Mochiko Chicken plate and Crunchy Chili Garlic chicken plate (to take home). The mochiko chicken had a super crunchy coating, making for some of the best fried chicken. The chili pepper water condiment (which is also hella ono with kalua pig), adds more flavor than heat. The mac salad was delish but the rice was disappointing, it was super mushy toward the center of the scoops. I shared the crunchy chili garlic chicken plate at home with my hubby. It was still crunchy even after a ferry boat ride home! It was on the spicy side, some bites seemed spicier than others. If you are in a super grab 'n' go mood, they have musubi, onigri and inari with various fillings. Vegetarian or vegan? Forget it, lol, unless all you want is shave ice. The general store side is well curated with items from the Islands, some of which you might find elsewhere, but they have what you need in one spot HERE. There is a cold case with beverages. I was told the owner sometimes has house baked goods. The guava cake is my friend's weakness, unfortunately they did not have any the day we were there. Place is super clean, the guy who took our order was totally friendly, embodying the spirit of aloha. They are closed Monday-Wednesday so plan accordingly. Ample street parking, one stall in the teeny parking lot. They take cash, Apple/Google pay.

First time I had chicken and waffle and it was delicious. Highly recommend this. Line to get in is long but moves quickly. Will be back to try other dishes.

This place is great and you wake up for some breakfast or some lunch. They have lunchboxes or different kinds of snacks and spamasubis. If you're craving for something sweet, they also have shaved ice, you can put whatever toppings you like mochi, condensed milk, flavored syrups, and more. You can take your food togo or dine in since they have about ten tables. They take apple pay or cash which is very convenient for everyone. Be sure to wake up early because the spamasubis sell out quick. My favorite one is the one with hash brown inside because it's just so different than what I had before. The spamasubis here look like the ones from Hawaii, so if you miss Hawaii, you can just come here for a treat!

Food: 5/5 Service: 4/5 Ambiance: 3.5/5 Portion to Price: 3/5 Overall: I'd come back! The extended review... Food: Meatloaf Loco Moco - 5/5 - So ono! It's a good version of the traditional. Who could say no to meat, rice, egg, and gravy!? Service: 4/5 - Friendly service. Ambiance: 3.5/5 - An interesting mixed use place of kitchen and grocery. Portion to Price: 3/5 - Standard fare on pricing.

Checked out this Hawaiian spot recently. The strawberry mochi was a total hit and the fries were delicious, even if they were a little heavy on the sauce. I was less impressed with the poke bowl; since it's "market price," I expected something premium, but it cost over $30 and was mostly rice with a small amount of fish. It's a cute local store, but the value on the poke felt a bit lopsided.

5 stars for food -2 for horrible, awful service This one was REALLY hard to review because the food was AMAZING but the service was HORRIBLE!!! DHGS had been on my bucket list forever. Finally decided to go on a mid-week late afternoon (around 3pm-ish). It was small and we had to park on the street, but that was fine. When we walked in, it was a smaller space with tables and lots of Hawaiian goodies to purchase. They make their own bagged goods along with seeking Hawaiian treats and staples. Prices were all moderate to on the higher side. But I immediately thought, this would be a perfect place to buy Hawaiian snacks. They also have house ready to go Musubis (that were delicious)! The menu offers local selections along with shave ice. Prices are on the higher side but I was expecting that the portions were going to be bigger than normal (which ended up being correct). Then I went to order and all of the expectations of this being my new go-to Hawaiian restaurant were dashed. There were three people behind the counter- a middle aged Asian guy and 2 late teen/young adult Asian females. Not one said hello. Not one stopped their conversation to help us. So we stood there kind of shocked- when the cashier girl finally did turn around she just stood there and started at us. That was the queue to tell her what we wanted. I asked her a question about drinks, and she gave me a disgusted look and pointed to the fridge along the wall with canned and bottled drinks. I told her no thanks and she never looked up again. Didn't say another word. Now I usually give anyone in food service a lot of grace, but we were the only ones waiting to order and the restaurant was not busy in ANY sense. But what surprised me was the guy didn't make any effort to say anything either... when we picked up our food again- no words. Just put the food on the counter and walked away. At that point I had already made up my mind that I worked NEVER come here again. But since my daughter and I were starving (hadn't eaten all day) we decided to sit down and eat there before we left. O. M. G. The food was DELICIOUS!!! We had literally just flown in from visiting Hawaii and go often- the Loco Moco is one of the best I've ever had. The portion size was HUGE and the flavors/quality are unmatched with anything I've had on the mainland to date. The Mochiko chicken was also huge portions and so, so good. We also had a spam/eel/avocado mission that was amazing. So it worked have been a a 4.5-5 stars for the food, but became a 3 for the service. Will I be back? I honestly don't know- normally I world never go back to a place where the treatment literally made me feel like they didn't want us back like they did here- but it was so good I might just order to go.

    Katsu curry, eel musubi

Heard a lot of hype about this place being comparable to native Hawaiian food. Been wanting to try this place for while and did not dissapoint. Service: workers were friendly and nice Ambiance: It's part mini market with Japanese/Hawaiian goods and sit down restaurant. "Luau" Katsu Curry $23 (4/5): The portions were HUGE. 2 layers of chicken, 2 scoops of rice with tons of topped pickles, and a scoop of mac salad. The chicken was crispy and juicy. Japanese curry was good. Rice however was mushy, and the mac salad lacked texture (-1 star). In terms of value, this could really feed 3 people if you throw in an extra rice and more Mac salad. There is this watery sweet chili sauce on the table that you can add. Eel musubi $8 (5/5): This was so good! The size it was huge. The eel was flavorful and complimented the entire musubi well Would definetly come back again. For the amount you're given and splitting with another is a steal.

Hawaiian shaved ice (tropical - mango, guava, lilikoi)
    Sophia C.

Hawaiian vibes in the bay! Hawaiian shaved ice 7/10 - got tropical flavor (mango, guava, lilikoi -aka passion fruit) - loved all the syrups but the lilikoi was a bit watery imo - ice is fluffy not sure how it compares to island though Luau katsu 10/10 - katsu is so juicy and flavorful, crispy on the outside soft & juicy inside - the curry is pretty flavorful and better than most take out Hawaiian food places (worth the price imo) Musubi with hash brown 9/10 - saucy rice with crispy hash brown & a nice slice of spam - delicious and super filling Bonus: Hawaiian chili pepper water (on all the tables) is like a vinegar pepper sauce that cuts thru the heaviness of the food The store is cute and has basic Hawaiian souvenir goods like the lihing candies! Half of the store is seating which is cute. Definitely worth the trip. Don't be scared of the prices because the portions are definitely worth it! You order at the counter so can't really say much about the service but food came out pretty quick and this place got packed FAST!

Visited on a Saturday around 1:30pm with a friend and it was packed, there was a line of about 10 guests ahead of us. Waited around 10 minutes to place our order and another 15 minutes for our food, overall pretty good given how busy it was. Food: Hawaii Ahi Poke Bowl - ordered this with mixed greens, generous portion size probably 6-8oz of ahi poke, flavor was great, nice balance of savory sweet soy with a bit of sesame oil, poke also had some mild slices of white onion, fresh seaweed, crunchy toasted rice pearls, greens were fresh and very light dressed all around well balanced poke, definitely worth a try Chili garlic crunch chicken plate - came with a generous portion of chicken probably 8-9oz, white rice and mac salad, chicken was heavily battered and fried coated in a mild chili oil topped with fried garlic chips, texture of the chicken was slightly soggy and a bit oily, wish the texture was a bit crunchier and the sauce was saltier and spicier dispute how much chili oil and garlic toppings there was the flavor was still a little lack luster, steamed rice standard, mac salad is pretty bland got mostly mayo in flavor, would skip this next time Service was casual grab any Hawaiian groceries, snacks and drinks you want before getting in line to place you order for food. Everything is wrapped in take out containers which was great since portion sizes are quite large, utensil and napkins we grabbed at the registar. The store did have tables and chairs for seating which was great. Overall enjoyed trying Diamond Head General Store, a solid spot for casual Hawaiian food. The poke was particularly good, would want to come back to try desserts here.

I love this Hawaiian spot in San Bruno! It used to be morning wood but they changed it to a really cute store where you can order food, but also has shave ice, musubi, onigiri and other Hawaiian things that you can buy! I love how the portion are really big and it is a big for your buck!

Ask the Community - Diamond Head General Store

In the picture I see a parking lot on the right side, does that parking lot belong to diamond head customers to park there for a short time to buy some thing?

There is only one space for them. You should be able to find street parking (no meters) on the same block.

    Accept apple pay?

    yes

Do they have outdoor seating? How about a phone number?

They did not have outside seating when I was there a few weeks ago.

Do you carry the Ono chips?

Do you automatically charge a service fee? If yes how much is it?

they don't automatically charge a service fee anymore

    Are debit/credit card accepted?

    Yes, major VISA & MC.

How is the parking situation here?

Very small parking lot shared with other businesses. Street parking available in a busy street with other businesses in the area. I would recommend to be prepared to look for parking.

    Do you have dole whip?

    No, they don't.

    What are your business hours?

Closed Mondays and Tuesdays. Otherwise open 10:30-5pm

We had heard such great things about Hula Hoops and were excited to come for Mother's Day brunch. When we arrived Sunday morning, we were seated right away, which was great. However, our party of six was seated with only three food menus and five drink menus. I asked our waitress if we could get additional menus for the rest of the table, and she explained they had run out and were waiting for other guests to finish with theirs. We ended up asking if there was a QR code version we could scan, and she brought one over. I was mostly confused why the QR code wasn't offered immediately, knowing half the table didn't have menus to begin with. It just made the start of the experience feel a little disorganized. That said, there were definitely some positives. The sparkling cider for Mother's Day brunch was a really nice touch, and the Shanghai lumpia was fantastic. I ordered the two-protein silog breakfast with eggs, and while the flavors were good, the single scoop of rice just didn't feel proportionate to the rest of the plate. Any Filipino knows you need a little more rice to balance everything out, so I ended up not finishing my meal because it felt off portion-wise. My son ordered the cheese omelet and said it wasn't his favorite, especially the potatoes. The ube waffles were really yummy though, and my husband enjoyed the sisig tater tots. Overall, I'm glad we finally got to try Hula Hoops after hearing so many good things, but unfortunately it didn't quite live up to the hype for us, and I don't think we'd return.
