i used to always get *dragged* out to the other porterhouse in temple bar because my husband and his friends are beer fanatics. this would happen nearly every time someone was visiting his work team. it got to the point where i would whine and bitch so much people just stopped suggesting it. and then something strange happened and i started going to porterhouse central. with no arm twisting. and then something even stranger happened and i ended up hanging out there with a friend for the better part of a night, people watching and having a fantastic time. i like it over PH temple bar because there are far fewer tourists (yes, i know i used to be one) and even though it may be just as packed, i find it far less hectic. read more

I loved this bar so much! It's huge so I was actually able to grab a seat during the cluster that is "12 Pubs of Christmas" when a billion 20somethings dress up in ugly Christmas sweaters (er, jumpers) and pub crawl. The in-house beers were great and there was so much variety! I tried out a few with the sampler (I'm a sucker for itty-bitty glasses) then got a full pint of the amber-ish one. And then I cried inside because people were ordering BUD LIGHT. WHY FOR THE LOVE OF GOD WHY??!?!?!?!? And then I tore my eyes away and looked back at my beautiful beer and drank some more. read more

I watched the Ireland v. England Six Nations Rugby game here, and hey, this is a great place to catch a game. They've got both big and little screens scattered arond the place, and the sound system is excellent, so no matter where one sat there was some good views of the match. I can't review the food, 'cause it was all about pints of their Red, which was TAAASSTY. The service was the only thing a little dicey-but I'm willing to give 'em a break for game-day craziness. We stopped here for a small bite and a drink. The soup of the day, a sweet potato and chilli soup was fantastic! We did two 3 beer 7oz flights. Although they were out of two choices there was still 4 beers in a larger, Ale and Stouts to pick from. Porterhouse Central caught my eye as we walked by it while touring around Dublin, so we decided to go back for dinner and check it out. Porterhouse Central is a sort of gastropub/microbrewery (or at least they brew their own beers but not sure if that happens off-site), and was buzzing when we stopped in on a Sunday evening. The restaurant is spacious so there was a lot of available seating in the rear at that point. The beer menu is extensive and includes a handful of their own brews. I tried the Oyster Stout which was terrific, and actually brewed with oysters! Who knew? The food menu is your Irish pub standard with a few flourishes. We ordered a few things, of which the standout items were the hearty chicken pot pie and the bangers and mash. The portions are generous, especially at this price point. For being so crowded, service was prompt and friendly, and they made sure to return to offer another beer or whatever we needed. Overall, a great spot in the center of Dublin for a beer or a solid meal. read more

This is a great spot. Formerly Judge Roy Beans and has the infamous honour of where I was 9/11, I spend the afternoon watching the tragedy after initially going in for lunch. Great atmosphere, exciting bar menu. The kind of menu where not just one or two items jump out at you, but the whole menu does. The staff were very friendly and the drinks menu was class. They brew their own beers and stouts as well as distill their own gin and whiskeys. They also have like 150 different bottled beer from around the world. Good atmosphere...lots of floors. LOUD music. Came here for food one night 45 minutes before the kitchen was closing - waited about that long for our food as well. The waitress was nice enough and apologised for the wait; the kitchen also got one of our orders wrong (Chicken salad instead of chicken burger). It was still good and the waitress was apologetic so not that big of a deal I guess. I got the beef and guinness pie - yum! Really good and really filling. Also came with a side of soda bread. Been here multiple times over the past two years. It's always crowded!! Of course that's good for its reputation, but it means that you can never get a seat. It's also always very loud, even in the afternoon when they're serving food and you'd expect to be able to chat over your soup. It does have a decent crowd, plenty people to chat to. The bar staff is friendly. Drinks are ok in price- I think it's a bit over a fiver for a pint? They also have cocktails, which I have only sampled from my friends'. They have the Dingle Whiskey Bar attached at the front, which I've sat in but never ordered from. It has a very unique design, with sloping wooden walls and shelves displaying their many types of whiskey. read more

I've actually reviewed this place before and nothing really changed from then to now, except that I went to the Nassau Street location rather than Parliament Street. Same food, same lovely beer, though when I asked for the Porterhouse Pilsner, they were out, so I had to take the German stuff---no worries, though I do like it local. The wings were tasty and it was fine for what it is, though you would think that if it's tourist season in Dublin there'd be more staff on hand. Even for those who dont usually drink beer, there is something for your taste-just ask the staff and they will be more than happy to assist with your selection. Go in early if you want to get a seat though-especially around the weekend. Also, if you want to try the whiskey sour cocktails - ask for Jack :) read more

2 sets of beer tasters for 10 Euro?! Excellent. I've never eaten here, but have occasionally popped in on a random weeknight for a beer when I wasn't really feeling like a typical "old man pub" that surrounds the area. They do a music trivia on Tuesday nights, which adds some liveliness into a weeknight drink. They've got their own beers, so it's also a nice opportunity to try different beers from your normal selection that are at other pubs in the area. The only thing is that the music does get quite loud, so it can be fun if you're out for a night to dance in a place that isn't super clubby. But not the best spot at night to have a chat, because your vocal chords will good a good exercise! Also, tends to be jampacked with a weird combination of tourists and young Trinity Students... so might want to be prepared for that! All in all, a fun place to be on a dull night. read more

Wow, the service here is exceptional! Was here on vacation to Dublin, walked around everywhere to try to find a good place to sit down and enjoy food, people watch and relax. This place was awesome, when we first came in on a Friday night it was packed, every spot was taken and people were stalking others to find a spot. One of the waitresses actually helped us find a place to sit, that never happens in the states. Very happy! The food was great, I had the buffalo wings and my husband had the bangers and mash. The Porterhouse Brew Co brews quite good beer and serves it up at five or so venues around Dublin. 'Central' is on Nassau Street, with a side entrance off Grafton Street. It's a fun place with a mixed youngish crowd, slightly away from the tourist trail of Temple Bar. If you love beer you'll find something to please on the drinks 'menu' - a multi page tome dedicated to (mainly) beers from around the world. The 'home brand' brews aren't bad either - especially the Oyster, a creamy alternative to Guinness. I'm told the food is good (sorry, I've only tried the liquid offerings), and there's a couple of outside tables off Grafton Street for smokers. Be warned, this place gets busy at peak times with big waits at the bar - they need more staff! But worth popping in mid-afternoon to sample a few ales, or one of the lush and lethal Strawberry Daiquiris. read more

The Porterhouse Central is along a street with many local pubs. We were attracted to go in as it was one of the nearest to our hotel and it really gave us that 'warm, fuzzy Pub-feeling'. Or at least, I call it that! :) When you're in Dublin you want to try something local of course, as a tourist and pubs are something we aaaalll LOVE, right? Nothing too fancy, no real tables - all high tables and high chairs, posters and writings everywhere, lots of beer and cider and NOISE. Of course, the noise is just part of the charm! We thought the wisest thing to do would be to order the Burger off the menu, as it looked like the best choice. I ordered the Porterhouse without bacon, but still it came with bacon... Alright, no worries. I took it out! However, I was not sure if the piece of meat I took out was bacon or chicken, as it was too large, thick, white and greasy. I was assured it was bacon and the lovely waitress noted that it shouldn't have been in my burger (as I had ordered not to have it) and took it off the receipt. That was lovely of her, as I didn't ask for it. Still, we were all a little disappointed. The burger was...well, how do I put this delicately...one of the worst burgers I have had in a while. And believe me, I love burgers and am usually not so critical. I mean, how can you go wrong with a burger? The sauce was off, it was too huge and hard to eat and suuuper salty! I stopped eating halfway as it started really giving acid reflux! And, sadly to say, it took about 45 minutes for this special burger to get delivered. I understand it can be peak hour, since it was around 7:30 p.m. but 45 minutes for a burger?!? However, I am always for benefit of the doubt and therefore also noted these things to the waitress before leaving. I hope that the next customers having the burger will have a better experience. However, like I said, friendly staff, willing to listen if anything goes wrong and still the really cool and authentic pub atmosphere! read more

Porterhouse is a great showroom for the multitudes of beer produced by the brewer of the same name. There are about a dozen various beers on tap from the brewer plus a few more guest taps and even some cask beers available. Just don't ask for a Guinness. The staff was fast and professional though not exceptionally friendly. The beer was excellent and definitely fresh from the brewer. The red ale was a bit hoppy and tart and perfectly personified the style and went great with the gloomy late fall weather. The pumpkin ale was also very seasonally appropriate and tasty without being overly sweet. The spices shone through and rather than tasting like a pie, tasted like a good beer with a hint of autumn. The bar is also excellent for people watching as there are certainly some characters who frequent the place plus the multitudes of tourists who wander in. read more

I stopped in here yesterday after a long, warm day of walking and a lovely feed in Pitt Bros. This will probably be my new 'go to' place for not just a nice cold beer-- but food, too! I didn't order any food but their menu is quite extensive and very reasonably priced. In fact, there's three menus. One dedicated to the food they serve. Starters, mains... Another for dessert. Will certainly be ordering some Irish Cream Cheesecake next time :) And one for drinks. A LOT of drinks!!! No Guinness, Carlsberg etc... but the amount of craft beers they sell is overwhelming. They also sell a lot of wines and cocktails so there's something for everybody. I ordered a pint of Oyster stout. So good that I told the bartender how delicious it was. Then I tried a Wrasslers XXXX and it may have been even better. Possibly my new favourite :D This is a big, wide pub with plenty of seats which I really liked. A lot of pubs are narrow, small, crampted and claustrophobic so this would be nice if you enjoy that. Again, I can see myself coming here in a heartbeat. Well recommended. read more

I've only been here 100+ times.... so you can see where this is going (good chance it is 200+) This is another of the Porterhouse Brewing Co chain, of which I am a great fan. You might think that a franchise might be just like Mc Donalds - all the same stuff and staff and clientele. But for the Porterhouse Brew Co this is gladly not the case. The Porter Central is populated by a clientele of tourists, after-work drinkers, parties and regulars. With the usual range of Porterhouse Brews on tap they have a good range of other craft beers to be tried. They don't do Guiness and they don't serve Heineken by the pint glass, instead the staff will suggest you try Plain Porter or Temple Brau.... and they would be right in saying it isa beter choice. The food is typically Porterhouse, as in very good, their burgers are the best for the price 11.50 and their Chicken Wings @9.90 are well worth a try, though I would not suggest putting the Suicide Sauce on it... not even the staff recommend that. So if you are fed up slogging around town shopping, stressed after work or just meeting up with a friend in town then I would suggest stopping in here. *I must say that this review is helped by me being here sipping a Temple Brau as I write ;p read more

Went here for a beer and some food (weekday lunch). Staff were friendly and helpful. On Wednesday they have double your order of wings for same price, so that's what I did. Wings were on the small side, but a good portion for under 8€, and really good when they double it up. Allowed me to order 2 different sauces (BBQ and hot). Beer was good as well. I like going here with a group, or with people who have really varying tastes in what they drink, because the range is large enough to cater for anyone. The menu is expansive, a mix of home brews, micro brews, and international labels. There's every flavour of beer too, and they do nice red wines, although beer is obviously the focus. It got a big exterior facelift about four years ago, but the interior leaves a little to be deserved - it's not exactly shabby chic, maybe just a little worn looking. The smell of food permeates the whole place too. I haven't eaten here before however, so can't comment on the food. The staff are generally very friendly. I had a very odd experience where one of the bartenders served three other people before me who came after me until I eventually was able to grab his attention (and it was not busy). However, that was just the once. Much better range than most anywhere else. (And you won't find your Carlsbergs or Budweisers here). read more

Normally a good place to come for a quick bite to eat and a nice craft beer. Why 2 stars? Well I wasn't sure what I wanted but I wanted something hoppy. The bar man didn't suggest anything and basically threw me the beer menu. The 1st beer I asked for they didn't have it. The 2nd beer I asked for they didn't have it. The 3rd beer, yep, they didn't have it. I had to settle for my 4th choice. Always a good place to sample a few foreign beers, and seems to be popular with the Friday afternoon work crowd. I especially like the Singha beer from Thailand, although it is really really potent! A few of those will have you ripping up the dance floor. Galway hookers are also on offer here, and they make for a lovely pale ale (and this is the extent of my beer knowledge). To stave off the hangover in the morning make sure you start your evening with plenty of snack food menu items. The chips are really nice, inexpensive and come well-presented with a couple of sauces. I've always met interesting people in this place, but it's not really somewhere you'd go to meet your dream man or anything. A good start to a night out. read more

This is my least favourite of the various porterhouses. I just don't like the layout for some reason. Perhaps it does not help that I often find it crowded and hard to order a beer, I just don't know. That minor gripe aside, it is a typical porterhouse which means excellent beer, both their own and imports/guest beers and also excellent food. I still think it's a great place, I would just rather go to the temple bar one which despite the name, is right on the edge of temple bar and not where all the crowds congregate. The TB one can also get very crowded but the layout allows for an easier bar ordering experience. I do like Porterhouse Central when it's quiet of an afternoon. read more

Popped in here yesterday for a quick bite after a little holiday planning in trailfinders!! We had the chicken wings. I got the medium ones and himself got the buffalo ones. My medium ones were a tad on the curry flavour side of things and not at all sweet & tangy as suggested on the menu. The buffalo wings were way nicer and had a good American style buffalo flavour to them! The blue cheese dip was delish and if you eat that with the celery & carrot sticks that accompany them sure your basically losing weight!! No?
