I love the range of beers they have and they are happy to give you a sample of anything they have on tap. Caveat: beers may be stronger than what you are used to. So I think I had a great night here... It annoys me that the toilets are through a maze of stools and tables, random bruises alert. I like the fact that this Porterhouse is so central so it is a good starting place and its also good for a whole night of random drinking if you want to get a big table for lots of people as it is never too crowded. read more

This is one of my favourite places to go. The music is always good, not too loud so you can still have a conversation. But really people come here for the drinks menu, one of the most impressive drinks list in all of dublin. Of you are looking for something a bit different, this is the place for you! Going all in on this one peeps- perhaps because I visited during the lull hours but a fantastic experience. The selection of beers was outstanding- more than I can count (does that matter? I can't count that high). But had the wings with my beer and just enjoyed the time at the bar. This place is surprising- not in a good or bad kind of way. Take Chinese food for example. You go to a Chinese restaurant and order your staple- beef and broccoli, spicy pork, fried wontons, whatever. Then you go to China and realize that Westernized Chinese food ain't Chinese food but you kind of already know that. So when I go to an Irish bar- in Ireland!- I'm not expecting it to be anything like the Irish bars I find in every major city in the world. Except, this one kind of is. Foreign bartenders, poor customer service, and live musicians playing American covers: Johnny Cash, Frank Sinatra, Elvis, Pharrell Williams. I had to check myself to see if I was actually in Dublin. The only difference is Irish people are actually here but that might be explained by the fact that Trinity College is a mere 10 meters across the street. Super slow to bus tables and take orders. Not to mention, 30 minutes after I placed my order, the waiter comes back, "Sorry, something went wrong in the kitchen. They didn't get the order." Translation: "I forgot to put it in." Anyway, the food and drink were fine once they arrived. €4,90 for an Oyster Stout. Reasonably priced for the area but a little flat. Tasted like Guinness to me but I'm American so what do I know? So why 4 stars? It's actually a hell of a lot of fun. Just don't expect too much in the way of service. read more

Nice bartender and a large selection of craft beer - many of which they brew. I had a steak sandwich that was cooked perfectly. A bit of disclosure on this review: I've had some amazingly fun times here. The company I kept here was top notch. As such, I have good memories when I think of this particular establishment and that, no doubt, has influenced my opinion. I, personally, think the place is a bit small, but that gives it the cramped, crowded feeling. Whether that is a good or bad thing is up to what you're there for. That said, when the music isn't playing, even with the low roar of the crowd, you can have conversations with your friends without having to scream. I've never sampled their beers, but I have tried their cocktails - especially when they are on special, such as a euro or so off. The bartenders aren't, necessarily, light on the pour and a few martinis will leave you with a rosy coloured joy. The food, of what I've had, has been nice. We usually get a pizza, with wings, chips and maybe a few other creative platter options. Around Christmas time, they had changed their normal platter, but it was much of the same - so, in that sense, good. The pizza is surprisingly good, I found, as the base seems to be dusted in flour or such as it gives a bit of a residue when you pick up each slice. Still. Yum. Overall, it's casual and pleasant. The drinks aren't cheap, but not overly pricy. The food is a bit expensive, especially the wings, but it's generally filling. read more

I grew up around the corner from the original Porterhouse in Bray and have always been a big fan. While I lived there it was my local, and I'm happy to say that this central one in the city holds up to their great standard. The place is always buzzing when I go there with a mixed aged crowd and pretty positive vibes. They've a huge range of craft beers and also have their entire Porterhouse brewed beer range available too. The food is of a high pub food standard and is fairly reasonably priced too. The most recent addition of the little whiskey bar next door is great too and is a big hit with tourists. If you're looking for a late bar that isn't too pretentious and overly busy, this is a great spot in the heart of the city! read more

We stumbled into the Porterhouse coming through the connected Dingle Bar, lured by the live music being played by the Eskies, and outstanding band who wouldn't look or sound out of place in Brooklyn. Oddly, we also learned that the Porterhouse also has a branch out in NYC. While, there certainly isn't anything wrong with the Porterhouse, it's the kind of establishment that typically rates about 2 or three stars in my book. Kind of a Sports Bar type vibe with lots of televisions, which is often something that keeps me out of a bar or pub. However, the place gains extra stars not only for the outstanding music, but also for the outstanding beer selection, and most notably for not serving Guinness, which one might expect to find in every bar in Ireland, despite the presence of much better stouts out there. read more

I've been here for drinks and dinner a couple times now and it's a pretty good place. The food is good, plus they've got brilliant selections for vegetarians like me - not something I can normally find in pub grub! I love the microbrews, it's great to break out of the Carlsberg/Guinness/Harp mold once in a while. I had their signature Red ale and really enjoyed it. Decor's alright, but it can be pretty dark at times, making it tough to guess the color of your food! I like this Porterhouse location. The service is spotty but no more so than any other pub in Dublin. I always find a place to sit even when it's a busy night. I tend to like to end a pub crawl here or go on a rainy night when I don't want to run all over the place and when I don't want a Guinness. Oh and don't ever order a Guinness (duh). They will laugh at you. It's also a good place to bring people who don't normally drink beer or don't think they like beer (I know! who are these people??). Even the most sensitive palates will drink a glass of strawberry beer on tap! I've never been found anyplace else where they've got that on tap. It's just what you need sometimes, ok? Also, it's always fun to get a beer flight. And again, it's a chill enough atmosphere with enough space that you don't feel weird not just getting a pint. It's updated pub food and the mushroom burgers are juicy and delicious. Also enjoyed the mussels. (Always so good with beer!) And it's never as expensive as I think it's going to be. It is dark inside, but I like because it's easy to find a dark corner and not worry about having to talk to or meet anyone other than the people you went out with! We stopped by for the vast craft beer selection and that they have. You won't find a Guinness tap in this pub. They have 11 beers on tap of their own brewing along with a vast number of guest beers on tap and bottle. It's pretty comparable to most craft beer pubs as far as price. The service is not bad but you must go up to the bar if your looking for a drink. We didn't have the food at all so we have no idea if it's good. Their beer specifically is half and half. Some really good, some not so much. I really enjoyed the nitro red, yippy ipa, and the lager was really good. I'd suggest visiting. Hip and spacious. read more

The best beer tasting I've ever experienced. I'm visiting from California (and a craft beer junkie), and The Porterhouse was recommended to me- specifically the Oyster Stout. Tried it, loved it. I thought it was a little pricey at 4.90€, but not obscene, especially for a craft beer. HOWEVER, I then noticed the sample tray option- 3 7oz tasters of any of their label draft beers, for 5€. So, instead of ~17 oz of beer for 4.90€, you can get 21 oz for 5€, and can enjoy the variety! My boyfriend and I got 2 taster trays and split everything. If that wasn't heavenly enough, each sample came with the tasting notes, so we got to discuss all the different flavor profiles, and learn a little bit about types of hops, etc. I won't go into reviewing every beer, but suffice to say there were no disappointments. The Plain Porter, Wrasslers Stout, and Brain Blasta were probably my favorites, but there is definitely something for everyone. Also, the 7 oz tasters are big enough to split without feeling like you only got a sip or two. We didn't try the food, but the atmosphere was nice- big, clean, lots of people of different ages (though mostly a younger crowd). I think this would be a great date night, or outing with friends that won't break the bank. read more

This was my first dinner in Dublin. The fish pie was exceptional, a generous portion with mussles and shrimp and large chucks of fish. A little bland, but nicely done. Athough I am am Belgian and Whitbeer drinker, I enjoyed the Standard and Oyster stouts. The highlight was the Euro16 match of Germany and Ukraine. The partons were engrossed in the game and kept the environment lively. I'll be back for the Ireland vs Sweden game tomorrow! read more

It was New Year's Eve. It was dark and packed inside. The place was long and loud and I just remember bodies everywhere. My friend got drinks and we hung out by the bar, enjoying the old school playlist and festive vibes. We had an hour till midnight. There were groups of people dancing beside us and we joined them at some point. We met some great people that night. The drinks were good too, obviously. The place looked like a long hall where the bar extended as long as the back wall, which was lined with built-in seating, high tables and stools. Funny enough we counted down and watched the fireworks on the TV screens as we were in Dublin and there were no live fireworks cause you know. But still, what a night to have spent on Nassau Street. read more

The Porterhouse Central is an interesting haunt. The cocktails are excellent - but pricey. It's not a cheap place, and despite it being close to Trinity, is more attractive to workers than students. If you love cocktails, spend money on The Purple People Eater. It won't disappoint. If you're a burger fan, The 'Big' Porterhouse Burger fills your cravings - and your stomach. read more

Although this would be probably the touristy place that I know, you can always have a good time in here. Always packed, with that being said it's hard to find a table most times. They have a great beer selection, not only beers that they brew but craft beer as well. If you're not into beer, they have a huge selection of cocktails for everyone else. They just revamped their menu and it's quite nice for bar food. I split the large platter of wings and a bucket of chips with a friend and it was plenty of food for two. I have to say I have had a lot of wings in my life and these were pretty darn good for wings, might be the best I have found in Dublin! Great place for a mid-week catch up or a pint. The real draw here is the crazy menu, with an insane amount of beers, whisk(e)ys, spirits, cocktails and wines. The place is cool enough, and plays decent chart music on the late nights, with just enough space for a bit of a dance if you feel like it. If you'd rather not spend money into a club and you'd like to be able to hear your friends talk to you, it's a great place to go-- or just as a warm up for the club! There are usually a good amount of seats around. The staff seem to be pleasant enough but I've only been here when it's fairly busy, so they're not chatty. My only complaint is that often they won't have all the beers on the menu, and it can be frustrating to be told, having spent ages perusing the menu and finally coming to a decisions, that you'd have to go back to the drawing board. It's easier to just have a gawk over the bar and see what's there, if you know your labels. It's one I continue to frequent. read more

My favorite pub in Dublin; in part because I write a blog about craft beer and this place not only makes some really good beer but also has loads of bottles for selection. The oxtail & oyster stout pie is incredibly good, as is the seafood chowder! The place gets crowded on the weekends which is fun, but I prefer it when it's a bit quieter. They have sports on the televisions, a backroom with old beer bottles lining the walls, game nights, and other events as well. I always bring my friends and family from back home in the USA to this place when they come to visit, and they've even requested to return the second time! We go to this one over the one in Temple Bar just because it's slightly more local. read more

She got the pizza, which was good with creamy tangy cheese and hunks of tomato on top (Pizza Margherita), and I got smokehouse burger that was awesome. Staff was very friendly. We fell in love with Porterhouse when we were in Dublin. Apparently, the also have a taproom in the states, in NYC. But back to the beer. This pub knows how to make good beer. I suggest a sampler. Three beer samples for five euro. I really liked their porter and their hop head which is the closest to an IPA. The red ale was nice as well. Quick and friendly service. Check them out! read more

Great for drinks. The house beers are amazing. MY favorite was the Red Ale. It was nice and hoppy. The place gets really full on Fridays and Saturdays so if you want a table to eat you have to be a lurker. The only good thing is if you get there before 8pm and there is no seating downstairs you can ask to be seating upstairs at the lounge. After 10pm you cannot carry beverages from the bar to the lounge. The wings are good but if you are use to spicy wings from the US do not order normal spice go for the second level spicy. The food is good and well portioned. They do not accept reservations on weekends. read more

Fantastic selection of beer, and their own microbrews are very tasty. Foodwise however standards seem to have slipped. Had the burger today, and was very disappointed. Very bland taste, and somewhat tough, rubbery texture. It was like it had been cooked earlier in the day and then reheated. Not saying that this is what happened, but that's what it tasted like... Not good. The toilets could also do with a bit of TLC and need to be checked more often, especially on busy days. read more
