Came for dinner on a Saturday night, and was very impressed with the food. The staff was so friendly and our server Carina was the best, she made such great drink recommendations. I order an espresso martini almost everywhere I go, and from time to time, I ask if they happen to have a chocolate martini. She said they make amazing espresso martinis, so we ordered that, but she came back with a chocolate martini and it was amazing, so that was awesome! And I was so satisfied, it was a delicious surprise. We ordered the tacos and stroganoff, 10/10 so good! Can't wait to come back and try other items on the menu! I called here on a Saturday to ask if kids were welcome and the place even advertises "good for kids." The initial worker that answered the phone said that they are welcome, but never informed me that there's a 10 pm cut-off. We were traveling far to visit this restaurant. I called again to double check and the male worker was super rude over the phone saying that "No kids allowed." I explained that I spoke with someone earlier and she said it was ok. The male was trying to justify that it's a bar when it's advertised as a Café/Bakery. He didn't even bother apologizing because I was initially misinformed. So confusing! My husband and I love it here but hadn't been in a while. We had gone to check out the city event a couple weeks back being held in the parking lot. The event had died down so we decided to go get a drink. A sign posted said there was a private event in the restaurant but the bar was open so we headed over. We waited at the bar for a minute to be served and I decided to grab a seat at a table near the bar. While my husband waited for service a waitress had grabbed menus and was heading over. As I was sitting down a man who worked there came to my table and yelled loudly "we're moving this outside" and started moving chairs around. He didn't seem to have any care that I had planned to sit there and offered no customer service. There's a few things to consider with The Post. First, it's the only real place to hang in proper Villa Park. So if you live in Villa Park, this is the only place you can go for food and drinks with a nice seating venue and live music, you can even walk to it if you want. The drinks are great and the beer is ice cold (honestly, they have a great beer selection and I appreciate the cold temperature they are served at. Nothing worse than a warm beer). The only two problems I have with this place is the service can be slow sometimes when it is busy, likely due to understaffing, and also the food menu is just okay. I feel like they could revamp the menu and have more high quality options (by high quality I mean freshly prepared and better quality meats). A lot of the items feel like they were previously frozen and warmed up to be served. I don't know if that's true, it just looks and tastes that way. The fried pickles are good. I usually just get those and some beer, and for that it gets great marks. read more

Brunch was delicious. I had my cranberry-mimosa and decided to have pancakes, over hard eggs and bacon for my brunch meal. So delicious I think I devoured it. Others had scrambles and eggs benedict. Do not come here. The bartender is extremely rude. We are locals and have been coming here since this place opened. We came here tonight with our neighbors to listen to the live band. The bartender basically said "get the f out" during last call. We don't understand why we were treated this way. We had paid our bill and we were walking out. The bartender continued to yell at us "get the f out". We are disgusted and humiliated by the way we were treated. As soon as we got home (we live across the street) I called the manager to complain and he basically didn't want to hear what I was saying and denied it ever happened. I asked him to review the cameras and he basically sided with the bartender . I'm so disappointed and disgusted by the way we were treated. This place is going down. We will never come here again. I live nearby so I go to The Post at least twice a month. I love the location, the patio and the live music. However, the service is hit or miss. Sometimes when I come the service is fantastic and I feel well taken care of. Other times I feel like I've donned a cloak of invisibility. My friends and I have talked about this several times--in fact, I have some friends who groan when I suggest we meet at The Post because their service experience has been so bad. In any event, if they offered consistent good service across the board, I think it would be better for everyone: the customers, the bar and the servers themselves. read more

I went up to the bar to order a round of drinks for our table, the bartender complains how busy he is and refused to take my order. I told him that maybe there's some else who can take my order. He ignores me and I went back to my table and let my friends know I was unable to order there drinks. After some time I went back to the bar to possibly order myself a drink and the same bartender calls me names and tells to get out, so I ask for the manager and he says he is the manager (which i highly doubt). So I just try to ignore him and am talking to one my friends at the bar when he screams for me to get the f out . So I leave the bar and start walking back to my table and he starts in again screaming "get the f out". Food really good but the service is the worst we have ever had anywhere. The last 3 times have sucked. We keep going back for the food and wow the service is horrible. Being told to pick a table then waiting over 20 minutes for menu's then another wait to order and finally sitting after your finished eating and waiting to pay your bill. I go to the Post about every five weeks or so. I am usually out alone so I try and sit at the bar and order dinner. Tonight it was very busy for a Wednesday and I ended up at a bar table. Thankfully, my timing was right and it didn't look like any groups were looking for a table...so I spread out, ordered a beer and the steak salad. The salad is more like a steak dinner with a side salad. It's just all in one bowl. It's probably the best steak salad I have ever had. By the way, the draft beer was ice cold. There was also live music, there usually is. It was a solo singer with a guitar and he introduced himself as Joe. He was very good...unfortunately he must have broke a string or something because he only got halfway through the first song of his second set. Then he called it the night. The trouble with rolling alone is, sometimes the servers forget about you. But hey, I have a voice and legs....so if I need more attention, then I can speak up or get up or both. The way I look at is, us patrons only have to remember the one server, but they have to keep track of many of us. The server by the way, apologized, before I said anything. Handled us with a smile and super fast service. I'm so impressed, my BLTA was outstanding and the fun never stopped. Manager was friendly and just super sweet. We will be back! I finally went out last night; first time in a while. But I was there on business, despite a packed crowd. And I saw her there, in that overstuffed little club, dancing along with all the other age appropriate 'single ladies' (finally!). She wasn't the first I noticed; a friendly blonde had just touched my thigh and made a guess about band member's sexual prowess to me. I was there to see the band, but the drunken ladies were vying hard for the attention on the floor. While looking past the couples, the girl groups, and the bimbos bumping, grinding, and twerking to songs you never connected to that style of dancing - I saw 'HER'. She wasn't dancing for an audience, but for her own private satisfaction. With a few nice friends. She was dressed simply, comfortably. Her short, brunette hair ensured me she had put some time into her look tonight - but not too much, as she was dressed for herself. She looked a bit like Sandra Bullock to me and I was instantly captivated. A quiet and petite diamond in the rough who shined far brighter those making three times the effort. I made an effort not to stare, but snuck as many glances her way as I could. Somehow I never noticed if she was wearing a ring. (damn!) My time was limited, so as I made my regretful exit I had to push past her group's table. I couldn't help myself: as I passed, I deliberately brushed my hand against her bare shoulder. I felt a searing rush go through my body, as her skin was a soft as silk. I walked away as exhilarated as an infatuated adolescent, with a joy as ancient and pure as possessing a Lady's lost kerchief. Despite my absence from 'the scene', I suppose I'm still as much of a diehard romantic as always. Now I definitely have to reassess my views on dating, especially if there are women like her out there. And THIS little cougar dive bar will be my first stop on that journey. Hopefully she'll return. I've only been there once as it was a middle ground for everyone getting together. It was a Friday night, so maybe that might be part of why I don't like nor dislike this place. Pros: Good food and ok drinks Cons: Odd vibe with a small dance floor paced with middle aged people trying to meet other middle aged people. The "DJ" mix was all over the map and played at club levels. The fog machine was in overdrive and at times I couldn't see more than four feet in front of my face. This was our favorite place for a long time. The servers were so nice and friendly. We would go a couple times a week since it is practically in our backyard. We looked forward to seeing the regular servers. Since Josh arrived as manager, it has changed so much. He has fired several servers that were our favorites. He has hired mostly men servers. That is fine but we loved the servers that were there a long time. The service is slower now and you rarely see Josh helping out when it is so busy. The whole friendly vibe has changed. Lousy lousy service as another poster mentioned "regulars" get plenty of service while new patrons ignored. We were a party of 4 the place was empty but for 3, what seemed to be regulars, bellied up to the bar. We waited 20 minutes before the waiter acknowledged us and brought menus - the girls couldn't have their conversation interrupted by paying customers. We waited another 15-20 minutes to get a glass of beer to the table... That was 15 minutes AFTER we ordered the beer. It's super small so if you go it maybe hard to have a place to sit at. They do have live band nights which I haven't been to yet. I've only gone for breakfast during football season. Food is good. I did not realize this bar is really an annex attached to Rockwell's. The food is all right, a tad disapointing, but then I just had a turkey bacon club. I had to send it back as the bacon (a generous amount) was stone cold and way undercooked. The garlic fries were on the soggy side, My friend had the steak salad and she said it was good, especially when she added my avocado I asked for on the side. The service was somewhat better than the food, very personable server, even though she had part of the restaurant and the bar area. The decor is the best part, industrial but warm. Nice sturdy wood tables. Something to know if you are trying to stay away from smokers; there is a sliding wall that opens the restaurant up to the outside bar area. Very cool but there were smokers just on the other side of the wall and when it was opened up, it was like being in the old smoking sections. My friend is asthmatic, so we had to leave to get away from the smoke. The live entertainment was set to come on, but we missed that. There was a magician making the rounds. It's about time VP got a bar, and The Post is doing everything right. The doorman/bouncer was super friendly, the band was awesome, and the drinks are reasonably priced (even for us Orange folk). The patio is beautiful at night, and the inside is clean and welcoming. Parking is no problem since its in the Ralph's shopping center. I love the light Norman Rockwell theme, too--look closely at the sign and you'll see that it's called The Saturday Evening Post. I'll be back for sure! read more
