Stowaway has the near perfect blend of high end tiki mixed with what I call the "brewers dive bar". Disguised in a dumpy looking strip mall is one of the better tiki experiences I have had. Is it as high end and bougie as Strong Water? No. Does it tickle your fancy and offer a wonderful experience that even your kids can enjoy? Absolutely! Kids- yes they are welcome. In fact mine had the time of their life. Just don't be those parents and bring them after 7. We went for a birthday celebration and had a great time on August 2. We had dinner, fun drinks in really cool glasses, and even got to experience some magic. Everyone ordered something different, both food and drinks, and everyone was happy with what they got. The pineapple fried rice was fantastic! So was the Zombie! The drinks come in some really fun glasses, and yes, it costs extra if you want to take the glass home, but we thought it was totally worth it. We love having our Zombie glass at home now. Wow! This place was amazing! As soon you enter you're instantly transported to a Tiki Oasis! The decor of this establishment is next level, so rad! We ordered the pineapple fried rice, deep fried spam musubi and a Loco Moco! When in Rome, actually Tustin I had to try some of their recommended drinks! I started off with a Rum Runner which was served in a surfing chango cup and finished off with a Zombie that was in a totally rad deep sea fish angler cup!! Founded by co-owners Leonard Chan and Dominic Iapello, its current home of barely three years in a former dive bar came about when they unceremoniously had to leave the original location. With its proximity to Disneyland's Enchanted Tiki Room and the very niche underground-like society of tiki culture, they found their footing with a consistent customer base and the thrill of island escapism through colorful cocktails, pleasurable pupus, and tropical trimmings. Would I stow myself away somewhere inside and never leave!? PURCHASE(S) Don Q Punch Bowl ($38.00): Made with Don Q's Cristal Silver, Anejo, and 151 Gold Rums, respectively, peach brandy, passion fruit, pineapple juice, and citrus juices, this flaming concoction was rumtastic in every way possible as the tropical juices just made it that much sweeter. At one point, I accidentally spilled my drink and he cleaned it up but reassured me I wasn't the first customer to make that mistake. Stowaway just rolled out five new drinks for summer with a summer camp theme. This enticed us to come back and try the new drinks after our last few visits were subpar. You can make reservations on Yelp, and there is also a Yelp live wait list. We visited during happy hour (Tuesday thru Friday from 4pm to 6pm) to take advantage of their food specials. We had the coconut shrimp ($12, but $7 during happy hour) which are always good. We also had some fries ($7, but $5 during happy hour). They were good and a generous portion. She wanted to try the vegan (cauliflower) salt & vinegar wings ($14, but $9 during happy hour). They were breaded and fried well, but had very little flavor. There was just a light sprinkle of a salt & vinegar seasoning. More salt and a dash of malt vinegar on them, or a side of malt vinegar would have made them a lot better. The happy hour food was a good value and got something in our stomachs. My first cocktail was the Wilderness Badge (Tequila, Lemongrass, Basil, Bergamot, Lemon, $17). This was by far my favorite. I love Italicus liqueur and this drink had great bergamot flavor up front with a light basil flavor from the basil infused tequila. It was very balanced and I would have never guessed this was a tequila based cocktail. She started out with the Sasquatch Sighting (Jamacian Overproof Rum, Cynar, Mango, Molasses, Lime, $17). This was balanced, with a light bitterness and light sweetness with mango flavor. Next, I tried The Lost Camper (Demerara Rum, Thai Green Tea, Pineapple, Coconut, Lime, $16). It was a pineapple bomb with a hint of coconut. I didn't like it at all and actually sent it back. I did think the skeleton arm and hand swizzle stick was cool. It is served with the hand at the bottom, but I took the picture with it sticking out. Instead, I had the Black Sands from the regular cocktail menu (Bali Hai Pineapple Rum, Diplomatica Reserve Rum, Pineapple, Orange, Guava, Lime, Coco, charcoal, $18). It is served with a flaming lime and sugar cube. I've had this several times and love it. It has a great funky complex flavor. Next, she had the Naked & Afraid (Mezcal, Campari, Smoked Pineapple, Serrano, Passionfruit, Lemon, $17). This was really good with a great complex mix of smoke and bitterness with a little heat. She gulped it down, and I was lucky to get a few sips. We decided to share the last new cocktail, the Scouts Honor (Vokda, Peach, Mandarin, Orgeat, Lime, $16) so we could say we tried them all. It looks nice with a bright orange color, but it was very sweet and peach forward with a hint of orange. Our server Crystal was great, very friendly and provided great service. We started collecting mugs recently, and we bought the Belly of the Beast Monstro mug ($62) to take home. BOTB is their Pinocchio themed speakeasy in the back (separate reservation required). They also have several other Stowaway branded mugs available. This visit was definitely better than our last few. A decade ago, I sometimes went to a tiny tiki bar at the District in Tustin until one day, to my disappointment, it vanished. They'd been in business for a few years at this new location and I just now found out! I immediately made reservations (recommended). We were seated in one of the tiki booths, shown a QR code to access the menu, and reminded there is a two hour time limit due to limited seating. We started with a couple of appetizers - angry edamame and chicken skewers - as they were a happy hour deal. The edamame, made with sriracha, garlic, and ginger, were at the edge of my spice tolerance (which is very low), but I loved them, while the chicken was tender with a delicious miso sauce. The big reason to come here is for their magnificent variety of cocktails. I had a Kona Coffee (spiced rum, macadamia nut liqueur, espresso, and coconut) which was fantastic, definitely on my list of favorites. Later I had a Rum Runner (Hamilton West Indies rum, blackberry, banana, pineapple, and orange) which was fruity and sweet, served in a surfer-monkey mug. I really like this one too. As a main dish I got the grilled pineapple teriyaki chicken sammie, which was a festival for the taste buds, although a bit messy. The accompanying fries were excellent. This was on a Tues night so I can only imagine a weekend! And when you only offer two desserts they should be on point. Poke Nachos, Pork Sammie, Stowaway Burger, Coconut Shrimp, Macaroni Salad and Fried Span Musubi were very good as were the fries and aioli that accompanied the sandwiches. It's got a cozy and dark ambiance nicely decorated in a Tiki style. As Shag fans, we appreciated the Shag print at our booth. Service was overall good. This place has an extensive menu of drinks and food. I ordered the blue Hawaiian, dole whip and dragon lady .. drinks tasted pretty good and not too strong. The drinks with the skull next to the name are super strong I was told. We also ordered wings, onion rings and edamame to go with the drinks. We didn't make a reservation before we went so luckily they had spaces open but it's on the high top. If you make reservation you get seated at a nicer table with couch seating, more comfy chairs etc. place gets busy towards night time especially on a Saturday. Plenty of parking in the plaza is a plus. Definitely will check this place out again the next time I want to grab drinks. read more

i've been here ~3 times now. All times we have had a reservation and one time we had a large group ~8 ppl. Every time there is great service from the staff. The ambiance inside is so cute, it's really dark, but eyes adjust. I tend to choose drinks with light liquor (not rum) and the coconut cove has been my go to. Even the food has been tasty. There's too much positive things to say about this place! For starters, the drinks here are so yummy and will definitely get the vibes going. The food is delicious. Our Server, Fabian was so helpful. Checked in frequently, good attitude and super helpful with ordering and anything else we needed. This place is perfect for shmedium sized groups ~5-6 and also good for date nights. Cutest tiki bar I've ever been to! This is a fairly small location which means limited seating so I do recommend getting a reservation if you can. If not you can join the waitlist but even the waitlist can build up quick so do prepare to wait. My friends and I got lucky and joined the waitlist and waited less than an hour. Theirs a 2 hour limit once you are seated. Their menu is so cute and all the drinks looked and sounded delicious. I love a good espresso martini so when I saw the Kona coffee I had to get it. My friend got the Crystal Cove and after I tried it, I had to get it as my second drink. The Kona Coffee has: Spiced Rum, Macadamia Nut Liqueur, Espresso, coconut. It was creamy, sweet, and the rum wasn't too overpowering. The Crystal Cove has: Vodka, lychee, guava, coconut water, lemon. If you love sweet and fruity drinks, I highly recommend this! We weren't super hungry so we ordered dishes that we can snack on while we were catching up. We got the poke bombs, spam spam nachos and the stowaway fries. Everything we ordered was honestly delicious. Out of the three, my favorite had to be the stowaway fries and the poke bombs! Make reservations. Not much of a line on Sunday but you get the sticky aftermath of Saturday haha. The new bar busser dude has his heart in the right place, he is enthusiastic and checks in, but there is a difference in customer interaction skill level. The bartenders are extremely talented and do make pretty strong drinks so you are getting your worth. Instead of the pool tables now they have more seating and decorated areas so it is more separate groups and private booths than a mingle experience. There are bag hooks at the bar seats. Hot take, but im actually not much of a rum drinker, and this place is knooown for rum, but it is a close good speakeasy. They even have seasonal cocktails. So we asked for fruity sweet drinks per usual. The coconut coye was super refreshing and really didnt taste like any alcohol. The Bahamas mama was stronger and had the alcohol taste. The fries this time were more thick cut and fluffier. The second round of water kind of tasted off. But overall, I appreciate the servers effort in making us feel welcomed and how well the drinks are made/variety offered. Overall, huge menu with cocktails and bites. Might need some cleaning/ventilation maintenance. But a great speakeasy overall. read more

Another awesome tiki bar in the books! This is easily one of the most elaborate tiki bars I've visited since Bahooka in Rosemead. The service was excellent, and our server was incredibly attentive throughout our visit. The food was delicious, and their Spam musubi is truly one of a kind. The atmosphere is what really sets this place apart I could sit here for hours just looking up at the ceiling and admiring all of the unique decorations and intricate details. Someone working at another bar recommended that if we are interested in tiki and not done with our night yet, we should check out Stowaway. 100% glad we did, ran into basically our Disney Content Creator idols, had to be a 1/1,000,000 chance of that happening. But let's talk Stowaway itself. Once we looked into this place we ended up not eating a full dinner so we could sample the menu. Well we ordered food once, then reminded again, and still at the end, never got our food. This is really the reason for knocking the rating down a star and there is no way around that. We made sure we weren't getting charged for it at the end so that was ok, but come on yall, pay more attention. As far as the drinks, they were awesome, and not only were the bartenders friendly, they were extremely knowledgeable and helpful. Even ended up skewing something slightly, to fit it more to the taste I was looking for. That cocktail totally delivered. Props. The custom mug selection was also pretty amazing, and we went home with one.. all in all I would definitely come back, but hopefully next time the food will actually come to the table. read more
