    Wilderness Badge cocktail
    Doug B.

Stowaway just rolled out five new drinks for summer with a summer camp theme. This enticed us to come back and try the new drinks after our last few visits were subpar. You can make reservations on Yelp, and there is also a Yelp live wait list. We visited during happy hour (Tuesday thru Friday from 4pm to 6pm) to take advantage of their food specials. We had the coconut shrimp ($12, but $7 during happy hour) which are always good. We also had some fries ($7, but $5 during happy hour). They were good and a generous portion. She wanted to try the vegan (cauliflower) salt & vinegar wings ($14, but $9 during happy hour). They were breaded and fried well, but had very little flavor. There was just a light sprinkle of a salt & vinegar seasoning. More salt and a dash of malt vinegar on them, or a side of malt vinegar would have made them a lot better. The happy hour food was a good value and got something in our stomachs. My first cocktail was the Wilderness Badge (Tequila, Lemongrass, Basil, Bergamot, Lemon, $17). This was by far my favorite. I love Italicus liqueur and this drink had great bergamot flavor up front with a light basil flavor from the basil infused tequila. It was very balanced and I would have never guessed this was a tequila based cocktail. She started out with the Sasquatch Sighting (Jamacian Overproof Rum, Cynar, Mango, Molasses, Lime, $17). This was balanced, with a light bitterness and light sweetness with mango flavor. Next, I tried The Lost Camper (Demerara Rum, Thai Green Tea, Pineapple, Coconut, Lime, $16). It was a pineapple bomb with a hint of coconut. I didn't like it at all and actually sent it back. I did think the skeleton arm and hand swizzle stick was cool. It is served with the hand at the bottom, but I took the picture with it sticking out. Instead, I had the Black Sands from the regular cocktail menu (Bali Hai Pineapple Rum, Diplomatica Reserve Rum, Pineapple, Orange, Guava, Lime, Coco, charcoal, $18). It is served with a flaming lime and sugar cube. I've had this several times and love it. It has a great funky complex flavor. Next, she had the Naked & Afraid (Mezcal, Campari, Smoked Pineapple, Serrano, Passionfruit, Lemon, $17). This was really good with a great complex mix of smoke and bitterness with a little heat. She gulped it down, and I was lucky to get a few sips. We decided to share the last new cocktail, the Scouts Honor (Vokda, Peach, Mandarin, Orgeat, Lime, $16) so we could say we tried them all. It looks nice with a bright orange color, but it was very sweet and peach forward with a hint of orange. Our server Crystal was great, very friendly and provided great service. We started collecting mugs recently, and we bought the Belly of the Beast Monstro mug ($62) to take home. BOTB is their Pinocchio themed speakeasy in the back (separate reservation required). They also have several other Stowaway branded mugs available. This visit was definitely better than our last few. As far as the five new Summer Camp cocktails, two were excellent, one was good, one was ok, and one was not good. The food was good, and is a great value during happy hour.

A decade ago, I sometimes went to a tiny tiki bar at the District in Tustin until one day, to my disappointment, it vanished. Recently, while reading a tiki bar review by Raven R., I noticed it had the same name as the place I used to visit and, after a bit of investigation, realized that they had moved to this larger space. They'd been in business for a few years at this new location and I just now found out! I immediately made reservations (recommended). We were seated in one of the tiki booths, shown a QR code to access the menu, and reminded there is a two hour time limit due to limited seating. We started with a couple of appetizers - angry edamame and chicken skewers - as they were a happy hour deal. The edamame, made with sriracha, garlic, and ginger, were at the edge of my spice tolerance (which is very low), but I loved them, while the chicken was tender with a delicious miso sauce. The big reason to come here is for their magnificent variety of cocktails. I had a Kona Coffee (spiced rum, macadamia nut liqueur, espresso, and coconut) which was fantastic, definitely on my list of favorites. Later I had a Rum Runner (Hamilton West Indies rum, blackberry, banana, pineapple, and orange) which was fruity and sweet, served in a surfer-monkey mug. I really like this one too. As a main dish I got the grilled pineapple teriyaki chicken sammie, which was a festival for the taste buds, although a bit messy. The accompanying fries were excellent. The atmosphere is dark and "tiki" which, along with attentive service (and of course incredible cocktails), make for a highly enjoyable experience.

Loved the cocktails and the cozy atmosphere. It really felt like a portal to a tropical island. The pineapple fried rice was delicious and the menu had interesting rum selections. Service was great and I enjoyed every minute of my visit.

Stowaway is such a fun spot to kick back with friends. The whole tiki/island vibe really sets the mood--it feels like a mini escape the moment you walk in. Great decor, great energy, and the perfect place to hang out, drink, and snack. Speaking of drinks... they are really good--almost dangerously so. Everything we tried was delicious, but the mai tai was definitely our favorite. Super well-balanced and easy to keep ordering without realizing how strong they are. The food didn't disappoint either. Every dish we had was flavorful and paired perfectly with the drinks, making it easy to settle in and stay awhile. Overall, a lively, laid-back spot with great drinks, tasty food, and a fun atmosphere. Definitely a go-to for a night out with friends.

This is a fun themed bar. Parking can be tight so make sure to prepare appropriately. Our server, Chin was the absolute best! We were well taken care of and all our questions were answered. The drink menu is extensive so expect some tough choices. We got black sands, flamingo, and rum runner. Black Sands- This is rum based with guava mango, pineapple, and orange. It was a fruity, vacation drink taste. Flamingo- You get a strong pear flavor with a hint of lime. Main alcohol is vodka. Very citrusy. Rum Runner- You get a montage of blackberry, banana, orange, and pineapple. Served in a fun monkey glass. Great experience overall!

Completely blown away by Stowaway! What an awesome tiki bar. While the decor is great, the cocktails are what really impress. Rarely do you get both a fun tiki bar AND world-class drinks, but that is exactly what Stowaway offers out here in Tustin. Mix in impeccable service and you have yourself one of the best establishments in the area. I can't wait to come back to try more of their menu items. Plan ahead because this spot is in high demand!

Fun bar with plenty of drinks and food to choose from! They also have great happy hour deals. It's a tiki bar, but I was so glad the drinks weren't overly sweet or loaded with sugar like at many other places. I tried the loco moco, which came with mac salad and was really good. There was a juicy patty with rice and gravy, and a perfectly cooked egg on top. I also tried the coconut shrimp, which was super crunchy with a big coconut flavor and paired perfectly with a sweet and sour dipping sauce. I would come again and try their different cocktails!

Smoking Rita, Angry Edamame (minus Sri racha) and Holy Grail
    Deb H.

What a super fun bar and restaurant this is! The theme is Tiki and they have a very vast menu of really creative drinks! I tried the Smoking Rita (Mezcal, grilled pineapple, lemon, agave) and it was delicious but strong! My husband liked it since he likes stronger drinks where I prefer not to taste the alcohol as much so The Holy Grail (Tequila, Giffard Raspberry, Agave, Lime, Cucumber and Raspberry) was perfect for me! I could drink like 10 of those it was so delicious! They also have a yummy food menu which I want to go back and try since we just came here for Happy Hour and sat at the bar and had a couple drinks and shared the Angry Edamame. Watch out- the Angry Edamame is SPICY! Way spicier than the normal garlic chili edamame that they have at other restaurants! We sat at the bar and it was easy to order food and drinks from the Bartender. You can make a reservation but we got there early (before 5pm) and were seated right away. Their Happy Hour Menu runs Tuesday-Friday 4pm-6pm and it's great value both for drinks and food (our Angry Edamame was half priced at $5, instead of $10) Also all skewers are $2 off. They also have Dole Whip here (like at Disneyland) which I absolutely love!! The ambiance here is also off the charts - everything you'd expect when you think "Tiki Bar"! I can't wait to go back to try more of their large variety of drinks and more of their food!

    The Painkiller

Take a journey to the South Pacific! Stowaway will have you singing Bali Hai in no time. The atmosphere alone is worth the wait. Share some spam masubi or Spam Spam Navhos, Then forget your troubles with drinks like The Painkiller, or a flaming pina colada. This is a great place to bring that sober friend of yours who likes to be designated driver, as the pours are strong, the Tiki gods loom large, and it always feels like summer. Enjoy!

There's too much positive things to say about this place! For starters, the drinks here are so yummy and will definitely get the vibes going. The food is delicious. Our Server, Fabian was so helpful. Checked in frequently, good attitude and super helpful with ordering and anything else we needed. This place is perfect for shmedium sized groups ~5-6 and also good for date nights. Music and environment is moderate. Thank you Fabian for making our experience awesome!

We absolutely loved our time here tonight! This is such a cute spot. Very immersive, clam and relaxing! Fair pricing for drinks and they have plenty of non-alcoholic options which was great for us! Our family members enjoyed some of their alcoholic drinks: Mai Tai, Bahama Mama and Smokey Rita. We enjoyed non-alcoholic Shirley Temples (with a side of fire) and pain killer! They also have a few vegan options for food. Our waiter, Crystal was super friendly and made our experience awesome! Thank you so much! We can't wait to make a road trip back out here to Newport. We'll definitely stop here again!

We have been here over a dozen times since our first trip. Let me just say we were blown away then, and still blown away now. Stowaway is easily becoming a top go-to restaurant for several reasons. The food is island themed, fresh and even most appetizers are easily splittable. Drinks are strong and crafted to aloha perfection, every time! Hands down our top place for date nights or when we take family from out of town, yes it's that impressive. And don't forget to ask what tiki mugs are in stock and available for purchase, they make for great mementos and gifts. Make a reservation to Stowaway, bring some friends and believe me you'll be coming back for more. Great job Stowaway team! Mahalo!

I love a Tiki Bar! This place is large, lots of seating. Typical tiki vibe, bamboo, etc. not as quirky as some that I've visited. Warm lighting. We tried an app, it was good. Nice to have the option to order a snack with the drinks. Drinks were delicious- Everything is better with fire. They have fun tiki mugs for purchase. Staff are dressed in tropical attire, friendly and smiling.

    Ask the Community - Stowaway

I am trying to call Stowaway to check on reservations but nobody is answering, it seems to be an unattended line. Anyone have any inside scooping how I can talk to somebody in person?

That happened to us too, we unfortunately had to go in person. They are so beyond busy.

What is the difference between the indoor seating and tiki bar? Thank you

A table with a server vs the bar top with the bartender.

We just want to go for drinks? Is there a wait for the bar?

Y The whole restraint is a bar, you need to make reservations for all seating.

    Is there live music?

Unfortunately there isn't! At least when we went it was just over the speaker & TVs were playing whatever major sport event is happening.

    Are gluten-free options available?

Sure, as someone that was raised gluten-free, and has family members with celiac I can confidently say that you have plenty of options here. Skip the gravy on some of the dishes because it would have had flour to thicken it. There's a couple of rice… Read more

What's the volume like? Can you have a calm conversation here?

The music isn't blaring. You can easily have conversations with your friends or make new friends at the bar.

If you're going to be in the belly of the beast, do you have access to stowaway's regular menu of food and drinks too?

Not to my knowledge; the speakeasy has their own specific drink & food menus.

    Is this place kid friendly?

No. It's meant for adults to be transported to another place, and forget about their own kids for a brief moment.

    Do you have Happy hour?

Yes M-F. They have food and drink specials.

Hi there! I was wanting to see if I was able to get a party of 3 on the waitlist for today, 8/24?…

They currently show 99-129 minutes wait time.

What is the maximum number of people you can accommodate in one party?

Hi! We accept general reservations for a maximum of 8 guests. If you have a larger group, please email us and we would love to assist!

Can a group of 9 be accommodated?

Yes! Please contact us at hello@stowawaytiki.com. Thanks!

I have a party of 7 people, but one of them is my 7 yr old grandson, are children allowed?

Aloha!! Yes we are 100% family friendly!

Are toddlers allowed at magic brunch?

Hi! We are an all ages, family friendly space!

    Is there a happy hour?

Yes! Monday through Friday from opening until 6!

    Do they serve mocktails?

Yes we do! And we can cater our mocktail to your preferred tastes!

Are the "for 3-4 thirsty people" fishbowl/shareable drinks available yet?

Hi! At this time we only offer the Scorpion Bowl (ON FIRE!) for a shared punch bowl

Since they serve food, are kids allowed?

Yes! Kids of all ages (even the big kids) are welcomed! We only have an age restriction for bar seating.

After our party of six chatted over cocktails and preyed on pupus, we moved to a "secret" room tucked in the back of Stowaway and walked into a Belly Of The Beast. The founders and co-owners of Stowaway, Leonard Chan and Dominic Iapello, created this extension to the tiki bar with a wildly interesting Pinocchio theme and the famed encounter with Monstro the whale all the while serving the same offerings in Stowaway but with also an exclusive limited menu just for this adventure. With its proximity to Disneyland and its Enchanted Tiki Room, with the very niche underground-like society of tiki culture they found a consistent customer base and the thrill of island escapism through colorful cocktails, pleasurable pupus, tropical trimmings, and nostalgic know-how. How would my belly handle the beastly drinks concocted here!? PURCHASE(S) Gepetto's Last Words ($16.00): Intrigued by the cocktail's name, this elixir was crafted with Fid Street Gin, tangerine, creme de violette, lemon, and cucumber, it was a citrusy refreshing sweet drink that was decorated with bright yellow petals. It was nice, but for whatever reason it just didn't quite hit the spot. [ONION RINGS/STRAWS/STRINGS ALERT - 4.0 of 5.0 STARS] Onion Rings ($9.00): A decent portion with rings of medium to large sizes, these were hot, dark golden browned, crunchy, and had a slight tendency to crumble when bitten into while the onion ring (sweet Maui!) rarely pulled out at times. They were lightly oily while the catsup wasn't needed but used. SERVICE While in Stowaway, we informed our male server to let us know when we were allowed to enter the belly. Once inside and situated, we had the place and bartender to ourselves. After we all perused the menu, we placed our orders, and everything arrived within ten minutes. The rest of the time was spent chatting, picture taking, and our bartender checked in on us also giving a Dole Whip taster. All was casual, chill, and somewhat on island time - aloha and mahalo! PARKING (FREE): They shared a medium-sized private lot with several other businesses who were closed at this time with plenty of spots - 'nuff said. ATMOSPHERE, DÉCOR, AMBIENCE "Hidden" inside Stowaway which was located within a strip mall, the entire theme was based on the Pinocchio story, the interlude in time spent inside Monstro, and as we entered it felt like the beginning of the Disneyland "Storybook" ride as you road a canal boat into the mouth and sharp teet of a whale. There were several marionettes (appropriate and non-appropriate) that hung from the ceiling and belly walls, along with other Disneyesque memorabilia, a few sitting booths, and a tiny bar at the end of the roo. No natural lighting whatsoever while an assortment of extremely low-lit electric lights and table candles glowed. There were no TVs while I couldn't recall any background music. ATTIRE Although I was actually dressed appropriately for the occasion in an aloha shirt, linen pants, and flip-flops, this place was totally casual, so a t-shirt, boardshorts, and flip-flops would suffice. OVERALL Belly Of The Beast was an adventurous fun evening with friends, it left me feeling childlike with the need to watch "Pinocchio", and I couldn't wait to return to try more of their awesome-soundling elixirs. I generally loved all-things Disneyana, and this new wrinkle, albeit probably not approved by the mouse ears brass, caught my fancy. My one drink was tasty but just didn't hit the right spot, the onion rings were very good, the prices were a tad elevated, the atmosphere was awesome, and the service was friendly and professional. They had an extremely limited menu, and there was some doubt whether or not ordering from the Stowaway menu was an option. Plus, I always preferred to support small local mom & pop businesses. I found very good value based on the prices, service, and experience noted above (TOTAL paid experience was around $27.00 BEFORE any discounts and/or tip). And, they accepted my credit card of choice... AMEX! 4.0 STARS

She provided us a code and explained the time limit along with house rules. We were then told to knock on the door and proceed with the experience. Kudos to the owner as this is the only speakeasy in the OC that has a true speakeasy feel entrance. They had a gentleman open the peephole and ask for the entry code. Once we said the code we entered a really cool mine shaft area. The attention to detail was on point and I was impressed! We were then taken upstairs to a private bar where there are four tables of four so a max of 16. This makes sense as to why reservations are hard to come by. The only ding about seating is you are sat with strangers it is not a private table. Luckily we had a fun older couple at our table so it made the conversation more lively. Otherwise don't go here with an expectation of an intimate/ private date night. They also offer a limited food menu but looked very promising. However, we were here for a night cap so just dabbled in drinks. The bartender had a seasonal menu of 4 cocktails he created. He explained the drinks and then had us try each one with a straw. We then placed our order based on what we liked. He did say if we were not a fan he could create us our own personal cocktail as well. The old fashion he created was phenomenal! Overall, a cool little spot in the OC. Do wish they were open later as they do close at 11pm on Friday and Saturday.

I remember someone reached out from the business saying things have changed and got a new KJ thats better and should give it another go. Well 3+ years later I gave it another chance with a group hoping for improvement but instead the experience is just as bad. The sound is terrible. Mics kept cutting in and out and only half the speakers were actually working. Its sad bc there were some really good singers who were pretty much singing without a working mic. I let the KJ (some old white bald guy with a goatee) know and he had this IDGAF response and didnt do anything. The icing on the cake was me buying drinks and waiting for over an hour to get to my song when I noticed I was passed over for people who signed up after me. I let the KJ know to check and he has me on the bottom of the list like I never moved. I explained how I was waiting over an hour and he began to get defensive and tell me basically he cant trust what I say and doesnt remember me. If dude was doing his job properly this wouldn't happen. How hard is it to go down a signup sheet in order. Its crazy. KJ was also bartending and cleaning tables. I dont know if hes the owner or just carrying many hats but man he sucks. Long story short had to get my peoples to vouch for me and he finally let me sing my 1 song disgruntledly. Man Im never coming back. So many more professional & organized karaoke bars in south OC. Its sad this place is such a disaster for karaoke. The vibe from the patrons are great too. Advice to management/owner: 1. Spend a few hundred bucks and fix your karaoke system. If this was Asian-owned it would have never been an issue because Asians take their karaoke seriously. 2. Get another KJ and get rid of the bald old white dude with the goatee. He is an unhappy person who doesn't like his job and it shows. 1 Star!

When I said "Bar" and "Santa Ana" in the Yelp search - of course it said "Club 616" in the first…read morespot - OF COURSE IT SAID 616!!! I was lucky enough to stumble across this gem of the center of OC when they first opened - and I am proud to be a regular here. I don't know how to go somewhere else - because I feel like the staff are giant gems in this jewel of a spot. Winters is a curator of boozy information that has helped me learn about "gin" and "root beer whiskey" so I can sound like an adult-ish purveyor, when really I know close to nothing except being a willing student to his creations. Dan the Man and Jacob always see me raise my hand in the corner of the bar, like the student I am, and have been willing to fill in the blanks for me when I know I am of thirst, but do not have the words for what to order. Every person working in the well has treated me with kindness - they have taken the time to get to know me, and I will be forever appreciative of how they have taken care of me over the years. But the real joy has been the transformation that this spot has for building a community of people in Santa Ana for real recognizing real. I have been bringing my Dad with me to play pool for the past few years. Sometimes people ask me if he plays professionally, I am terrible, and my skill incline is slow, he is patient and plays with the same level craftiness that the staff offer the cocktails. My Dad is always stoked when we have time to go have a few hours of games at 616 - especially now that there are regulars on 4th street that are excited to see that he is there playing - and they rush to write their names on the chalkboard to challenge him - or beat him in a game they really earned the W. On lazy Sundays, I watch couples sit with their drink, listening to Jazz, and watching my Dad whoop my ass while making amazing shots. I am forever grateful to Memo who sometimes takes a break from his shift behind the bar to give my dad an actual challenge - which allows me the chance to watch my Dad enjoy fellowship around the table. Knowing the table was a relic of the bars former self, and knowing the history that this spot has in Santa Ana is a reminder that so much around us can change - but it is those moments of the crack of the rack, the cheer of getting the combo shot, and the shake of hands when it's over that shows that it's not just about the pool table - but about the energy of a place that is welcoming and curated by people who care about what they do - and care about who comes through their doors. Thank you Jason and Mike B to bringing this to 4th St and supporting the community that was already here - and for building a community for the future. Thank you to Christina and Brandon for always having amazing pictures, decor, and fun events at 616 that help introduce new folks into this great spot. Time is short. Learn about Root Beer Whiskey. Write your name on the Chalk Board. No one lives forever.

We call them and give them a heads up and wondered if there was still availability. Melody was pretty transparent and said that there is a different menu between two and five ---a more limited menu. She asked if there was anyway we could get there before 2 o'clock. Long story short, she was super gracious and told the cooks that we would get there a little after two and they would make us something from the lunch menu. Isa was our waitress, and she was phenomenal! Great sense of humor, very transparent about the different menu items. I got a copal and it was fantastic! Smoky and spicy, but not too spicy. We started our late lunch with Caesar salad, Sopa Limon, Seabreem fish dish. We also got the cubano. We were so stuffed by the end of it, but everything was phenomenal. The Caesar salad was a great way to start the meal, but after a couple of bites of it once we had the other dishes, it didn't stand out as much. We probably would've ordered the same thing all over again, with the exception of the Caesar salad (although it was still good!) Sopa Limon had a very unique bone broth flavor. It was a little sweet. So amazing. Seabreem dish - the vegetables played an important part in the flavors! The fries and the aïoli for the Cubano was amazing. The Cubano was excellent, but was a big serving. We sat outdoors, but if I had to have my choice, I would prefer indoors because the ambience indoors is similar to a resort. It reminds us of a place up in the Bay Area called Luna in Campbell. Except the food here is slightly better :). Will definitely return!

I forgot the names of them all but just trust me on this one! Our server brought us out their house made hot sauce that complimented every dish we ordered. Don't forget to ask for it! One was a black charred ghost pepper paste like sauce, nothing like I've ever had. So good. The best thing about all of the food was nothing was too saucy or salty. My girlfriends ordered some drinks and they loved it too. We went on a Thursday and they had a farmers market on the streets as well!

We still enjoyed the food, but the outside lacks ambiance. You cannot hear the music from the outside, the decor is nonexistent, and there aren't any umbrellas available. As for the food, it's mostly very small plates that can be shared, but are small portions, unless you get the limited edition or shared plates. It can get pricey if you try the skewers and appetizers. We got the Bone Marrow Onigiri, Pickled Plate, Pork Belly Skewers, Hanger Steak Skewers, and Scallops, and everything was yummy. I will give this spot another shot and make sure to sit inside before I make up my mind.

The tuna and toppings were okay but the crispy rice tasted like fried fair food almost with the texture of a rice cake. Hopefully, their other dishes are better. For drinks, the waiter helped select the Banana Batida for me which was very lovely! I love how customized the recommendations were. My partner ordered a rum drink which he enjoyed as well. We finished off with a brownie dessert. I really enjoyed the passion fruit puree and kiwi topping. The brownie tasted good but was very dense which isn't my preference. Overall, would recommend.
