I tried to give St James Salon the benefit of the doubt, I really did because I really wanted to like them, but I don't think I've ever been so disappointed by a vendor/customer service before- Initially, I had a great phone conversation with Lauren regarding what I was looking for for my trial and wedding day, she was very sweet. However, after the initial phone call I was getting super pushy vibes from St James and was a bit turned off, but still agreed to set up a trial for hair and makeup anyway. I scheduled the hair and makeup trial 2 months in advance, and made it for to the morning of our engagement party. After this everything got increasingly worse, honestly I felt like I was on an episode of punk'd (Ashton, I'm still waiting for you to come out from hiding)! About a month before, I reached out to the salon to confirm the appointment day and time and I didn't hear back from someone for weeks (after many attempts from me). About 2 weeks before my appointment, I realized that no one had reached out to me in regards to what I would need to come prepared with (should I wash my hair before? Should I send pictures of looks I want...etc), so I emailed the salon, called them a handful of times in a span of a week and NO RESPONSE. By this time it was about 4 days before my appointment and I knew absolutely nothing. I reached out to Lauren directly and asked her if she could confirm details for me or I would be interested in knowing their cancellation policy, I got an email minutes later from someone at the salon confirming my appointment day, time, and details. You think that's the end? No.. it just couldn't be. THE NIGHT BEFORE MY APPOINTMENT I get a missed call and voicemail from Lauren telling me that my appointment had to be moved due to a wedding situation. Honestly, my jaw dropped. After weeks, and frankly a full month, of just radio silence after I patiently and kindly waited to hear back about my appointment, and after so much frustration this is what I end up with? Im not sure if you've ever tried finding someone to do hair/makeup for you 6pm on a Friday night, during wedding season, the night before an event, but it's is nearly impossible and I was absolutely defeated and disappointed. St James made my experience stressful and frankly just terrible. I was left to fend for myself the morning of my engagement party, and let's just say I was really sad about it. I won't forget the terrible customer service I received from St James, there was not even basic respect offered to me. Im not sure how someone expects anyone to go through with a company after an experience like that- if you can't even make it for my appointment that you yourself booked and said you were available for, how am I supposed to count on you for my wedding day? read more

The team was attentive and answered emails and phone calls in a very timely manner - even with Covid-19 and natural disasters happening all around us! Every person who had their hair and makeup done was absolutely thrilled with the results - including my mom and aunt who are a little harder to please. I had some notes for the team after my hair and makeup trial and every detail was addressed on the day of our wedding. The team arrived right on time, and even finished early! Let me start by saying this has nothing to do with the way they do H (hair ) or MU (make up). This review is for the way they handle their business transactions. I am not the type to leave any reviews, negative or positive. In fact, I'm the type of person that will still leave 20% tip even if the service is bad because I believe that we all have off days. Having said that, my transaction with St. James Salon have left such a bitter taste in my mouth that I had to turn to my computer as soon as I got this email from them. Little background: Suppose to get married in May 2020. However, as we all know d/t Covid that went caput. I have gone into contract with SJS and paid a retainer fee. I reached out to them 3/31/20 letting them know we had to cancel the wedding. Of course, I was also trying to see if they can give me my retainer back. I know per contract it states the retainer is non-refundable but I was hoping since it was under a special circumstance that they would understand. Also, I haven't even done any H or MU trial, so the way I was thinking, nothing was really lost on their end since they HAVEN'T DONE anything. Lauren and I emailed back and forth. She was everything the positive reviews have said. She sounded really sympathetic. She also said I reschedule within the next 18 months, they will happily rebook me and apply my retainer to the future date (quote, end quote). I mentioned to Lauren that I'm going to try and dispute it with my CC company as I was recommended to do. Because at this point, we had no idea when we will have a wedding or if we would even have one in the next 18 months. Fast forward to now. We miraculously found a new venue and a new date (September 2020). I emailed Lauren to see if they are available that day and low and behold they are! Again more emailing for details and then they send me the new contract/proposal. I noticed that they are again charging me $660 for bride's HMU (I paid $400+ for the May 2020 retainer). Thinking they must have mistaken I emailed them back saying I had gone into contract with them at the beginning of the year and they forgot to apply my previous deposit to the new proposal. I then get an email back from Ali, Lauren's business manager, saying that their team "had incur a fair amount of time and expense in handling the charge dispute". Therefore, in "handing the dispute they incurred even more expenses and so my original contract with them + retainer was null and void". I mean REEAAAAALLLLLLYYYYY?!?! Like the rate was $100/minute?!?! That just seems so ridiculous to me. Listen, I understand COVID put us all in a difficult situation. But this is just ludicrous to me. TLDR: Lauren is sweet. I'm sure they do their work well, even if I haven't experienced it myself. Need to rethink business deals. Showing as no compassion and just plain money hungry. I will not recommend this business to any acquaintance or future brides that I know to save them the headache. read more

My hair is longer and healthier than it had been for a very long time. Most recently she did for me a modern "Beach Wave" perm and I am loving the new look. I booked St. James Salon for wedding hair and makeup for my wedding 9/2017. The team did a fantastic job! My bridal party looked amazing and I felt beautiful. My hair and makeup still looked nearly perfect at the end of the night after photos and ceremony in the heat (it was about 98 degrees!) and an evening of dancing. I was in communication with Lauren to set up details and book our team; she was easy to work with and very kind and professional when my first makeup trial did not go well. I especially enjoyed working with Koree (hair) and Michelle (makeup). They both checked in with me about the look throughout the process and did a great job making my vision a reality. A team of four came to do on-site services and arrived on time and well prepared with everything they needed. Loved working with Lauren and her team at St. James Salon! I had a very large bridal party and a very tight timeline. We were able to get 9 bridesmaids hair and make-up, one grooms-lady's hair, MOG's hair, and my own hair and make-up completed in less than 4 hours (we were ahead of schedule!). Lauren had a spreadsheet for what time each of my girls were going and with which stylist, so there was no waiting around asking "who wants to go next." Lauren did an amazing job on my hair both during our trial and day of. She took my pictures I sent for inspiration and actually used them. Michelle did my make-up both during my trial and day of. I typically don't wear make-up so I didn't give any direction to Michelle during my first make-up trial. It was my own fault for not providing pictures and giving a better description of my vision, so I ended up scheduling a second make-up trial. The second time around I sent pictures and was able to verbalize what I was actually looking for better and it turned out great.
