What a terrific surprise! Rarely do hotel restaurants offer such a well crafted unique collection of food and cocktails. They are self proclaimed small plates which is a turn off for some. We found though that a salad or veggie and an entree were more than enough, no small plates size serving in site. Do yourself a favor and order the pretzel croissants, pork belly, octopus and little gem salad. Outstanding!! read more

Staying at the chase park hotel and stumbled into this hotel for dinner since it was pouring outside and loved the trendy ambiance and tapas/small plates style of ordering. Got the duck tacos, pork belly, flank steak, octopus, endive salad, and eggplant dish with cauliflower. The octopus was beautifully presented but taste wiSe found it to be average. Same with the flank steak dish. However everything else was absolutely spectacular- especially the pork belly and Brussels sports- delightful and perfect cooked and seasoned! The service was wonderful, the waiter was attentive and the food came out pretty quickly. Would definitely go back again! Highly recommend. read more

Had a great date night at The Preston a few weeks ago. Our server was fantastic and extremely knowledgeable of everything on the menu. Our group seemed to order everything on the menu and were very happy with all our selections. We especially liked the charred octopus, Jamaican Jerk Chicken, the Pork Belly, and the Carrot Soup. I normally don't like cold soups, but this one rocks. We will definitely be back -- the great food, fun and knowledgeable staff, and comfy chairs make that an easy decision. read more

We chose The Preston simply because we were staying in The Chase hotel, but we were overwhelmed by what an awesome experience it was. There were 6 of us for dinner and we were traveling with my elderly father and 8 year old daughter. They accomodated us immediately and with smiles. This place feels edgy and urban snuggled in an historic hotel. Their signature cocktails are innovative and delicious. Our mixologist made me a gluten free cocktail not on the menu when I said I needed something to settle my tummy. It was one of the best cocktails I've ever had so I ordered two more , Their food is high quality and the staff are extremely thoughtful and helpful with dietary restrictions. The waiter would even let me know what something was marinated in to let me know if there was gluten in it. After drinking my delicious cocktail my stomach was settled and i could dig in. read more

We made reservations for a Saturday evening dinner. The place wasn't terribly crowded. We ordered almost all of the plates. Between four people we got to share and the food was well portioned. He charred octopus was disappointing given how chewy it was. Everything else, especially the jerk chicken and rice, was delicious. The food here is outstanding, the service is terrible. For a place that wasn't crowded we had to send some to look for our server. We didn't even get water refills for about 30 minutes. The server didn't know half the items on the bread board. I hope this isn't a pattern here because the food is definitely worth going back for. read more

This is a dinner review. Firstly, the restaurant is in the Chase Park Plaza. Enter the front door and it's right there on the left. Very convenient to get in. I have wanted to try The Preston since it opened up this past winter. It took me way too long to visit and try their dishes. If you haven't tried out The Preston yet, get over there and give it a go! Just make sure you have a little bit of a loose wallet and some friends to help order everything. The food is the main point here. The dishes are basically tapas style since they are rather small and would not fill you up. 2-3 plates per person are definitely recommended. Honestly, if you order anything you'll do ok. The Pork Belly is amazing! Honestly they could make a dish with just the brussel sprouts in that sauce and I'd still rave about it. Smoked duck is very tender. The Blue Bay Mussels was unique; the mussels were placed in a coconut curry sauce that was very much a Thai flavor (ask for extra bread to eat with it). The Korean Chicken Wings was not as expected, but if you like very fluffy fried chicken wings then you will be amazed (not for crunchy lovers). Dessert is a must get. Chocolate Panna Cotta: be ready to take a whiff when you receive it. They add smoke to the aroma and it is an awesome chocolate panna cotta. The Chocolate Melt is what you should get if you really like the melting ball dessert. It is very chocolatey but the ice cream makes it a great balance. The only two things I think they need to work on are the cocktails and the service. For a restaurant in the Chase Park Plaza, the service should be top notch. Many of the busboys did not know which waiter had which tables and were unable to get the waiters for further ordering. As someone else said the training needs to be stepped up. As for the drinks, right now they are quite basic (especially considering the other cocktail bars in STL). They really need to find someone that knows their cocktails and to create a more solid cocktail menu. In conclusion this is a 5 star food place for STL. Definitely try the food and maybe the cocktails if you really want. read more

Fantastic meal start to finish at The Preston located in the Chase Park Plaza. We dined there by default on a rainy July 4th because there were so few restaurants open. What a great surprise! The menu is comprised of inventive small plates, fabulous cocktails and desserts that are truly incomparable in St. Louis. The grilled octopus and pork belly with brussel sprouts were standouts. Our server Jay was exceptionally professional, warm and enthusiastic without being cloying. They were a bit understaffed and the service was a bit slow. We didn't mention it but Jay pointed it out and sent over a round of to-die-for desserts that were equal parts delicious and visually stunning. Can't wait to return to The Preston! read more

My review might be a slight biased by the fact that I came in with a prix fixe menu and didn't have complete control over my ordering. I ended up with a fairly pedestrian salad (maybe the bacon dressing held the salad together but I didn't get it because I don't eat meat) and some arancini that were pretty good (a little dense) but with too little sauce or accompaniments. You put those balls over some spiralized zuchinni and you might have something. Some good ideas here, but just a little short. read more

It was larger portions than most Tapas restaurants, but smaller than normal portions. We ordered four different shareable plates and all had incredible flavors. Bread plate--Dear God: pretzel croissants. Moroccan chicken. Pork tenderloin. Crab salad. Food: very, very good. Service: very good, but our server didn't seem to have firm recommendations, so we felt a little out on our own. This is definitely a new favorite breakfast spot for me! I absolutely loved it. We had the breakfast buffet but was kind of bummed to find out pancakes nor waffles are on the buffet. That's the only reason for the missing star. We did end up ordering an order of blueberry pancakes for the table. The service was great and the atmosphere was lovely. I am not a fan of small plates but I make an exception for The Preston. The decor is spectacular and swanky. We literally tried 85% of the menu. The server was very knowledgeable and it was a bonus that she was a Semoliere. She paired our plates with top notch wine and cocktails. The pretzel croissants were unbelievable, the octopus, meatballs ... all great. My most favorite was the dessert. We were presented with a smoking pot of creme. I thought I was hot but it was really a smoke gun that was used to flavor the dessert. The the chocolate ball they melted right in front of us by pouring hot caramel/chocolate sauce on - what a presentation! I really like this place and want to give them five stars but the only thing holding me back is the limited menu. That being said what they offer is eclectic and has been very good in my experience. It's a great spot to including having all the Chase amenities there like the theater and the neighboring lounge which is a great spot to sit when it's warm, gazing over the pool at night. But back to Preston the menu is certainly priced right with I think the most expensive entrée being 15 bucks which is short ribs which are awesome. They have a phenomenal pork belly dish and they also make a mean brussels sprout. Another great thing about the Chase is the complimentary valet or just use the garage but don't forget to have your waiter validate your ticket! read more

The Preston is a nice restaurant hidden within the hotel. It is a quiet, dark enviornment that would be great for a date. The service here is impeccable, the waiters are patient, friendly, and attentive. The cocktails were all very good, particularly if you have a more sophisticated palate, you can get some spicy cocktails here in addition to your more basic strawberry-based ones. The tapas were incredible- I loved everything I ate here, specifically the pork belly and Brussels sprouts yum yum yum. For dessert, we, like everyone else, had the chocolate ball with melted caramel and peanut flavored ice cream and oh my god I'm not a dessert person but I really enjoyed it. Only thing is it's definitely more on the $$$ side than $$. But the quality makes it worth it! read more

Wow, i keep coming back to The Preston again and again. It has restored the quality of food service that i suspect my grandparents experienced many years ago in the prime of this fine hotel. The Preston delivers again and again.... My favorite starts with the 'Good Night, Mr. Preston' from the bar. Its the only drink that i have tried since discovering Preston months ago. Its a silky smooth bourbon elixir artfully created by their talented team of mixologists. If you like a nice Manhattan...give this a try. You'll love it! I usually always start with the Chicken Liver Mousse, which is served with grilled toast. Wow. Everyone that tries this loves it. The apple butter atop the mouse provides the perfect sweet balance to the savory goodness of the mousse. I could have this again for dessert! The meatballs are wonderful, as is the Scallop Chowder, Mussels and the Duck Croquettes. The short rib is simply stunning, and the pork belly is a show stopper! WOW! Everyone raves about the Octopus, but it is the only item on the menu that i just haven't been able to bring myself to sample. Everything else is simply wonderful, and the heirloom Tomato special this past weekend was spectacular. The room is inviting and alive with a new sense of excitement. The service is stellar on all counts, but i especially appreciate Jay who really seems to enjoy his work and the new offerings at The Preston. His passion radiates through the room..... The desserts are amazing, but my favorite is the Chocolate Panna Cotta. Upon arrival, the hint of smoke takes me back to campfires of years ago. The rich chocolate goodness is the perfect Panna Cotta. The Chocolate 'melt' is wonderfully entertaining as the server pours a warm caramel over the chocolate 'sphere' to reveal a house made vanilla ice cream within. Wow! What a showstopper, and delicious too! Drinks are abundant, and the bartenders certainly know their craft. The wine choices are equally admirable .... Our waitress was friendly and helpful without being aggravating. The menu is comprised of many moderately-sized plates and sharing is encouraged. Plates come to the table as they are ready. Sharing is the way to go so you can sample a wide variety on the menu; there wasn't one thing the four of us had that wasn't amazing. I don't even know how to classify what was best. What a meh experience. Two stars for looking cool. I stopped in for breakfast while leaving my hotel. The dining process for me to eat took 90 minutes. I think the server forgot about me, then took my order. 45 minutes later I got a plate of congealed scrambled eggs. I had requested only bacon and got sausage. And the kicker was that my food tasted bad. I ate what I wanted and waited another 20 minutes to get the check. And when the check was dropped off I didn't get a thank you or anything. I have a feeling all of this was due to a crappy waiter so the place might be excellent with someone else helping you. read more

A friend and I checked out The Preston for dinner on 02/05/16 and we've wanted to go back ever since. We had a great meal sharing several small dishes including the chicken liver mouse, the heirloom beet salad and the bay scallop chowder. The best part for me was the cocktails. I really enjoyed The Mayfair cocktail (plymouth gin, sorel, lemon, sugar, egg white). I don't remember the name of the dessert but I was also very good. I can't overstate how impressed I am with The Preston. I was there for the first time tonight and I didn't think there was any way it would live up to the hype, but I was very wrong. Stephanie, our server, was great and you can tell their staff is well educated on the food and drink menus. The cocktails are really special and very well done. Not your run of the mill martini. We got the cheese board which was very well curated and the octopus and gnocchi which was fabulous and rich. Don't neglect dessert here either - the tiramisu is great tasting but the presentation is the best part! I will be back, no question. read more

Loved this place! It is located inside the Chase Park Plaza which is a gorgeous hotel. Valet parking or street parking available across the street. Ambience of the bar is really cool--very laid back with good music and service. Menu is small plates style. I chose to sit at the bar and have a glass of wine and a few small plates. Cocktail menu looked amazing. Bartender looked like he really knew how to make a good drink. Highly recommend the grilled octopus and Branzino dishes. Good portion size for a small plate. Disappointed that they ran out of the dessert I wanted but it was close to closing time. read more

Amazing bartenders. Really interesting food. The shishito peppers make an awesome little snack. They pack a ton of flavor. Had the beet salad which departed from the standard with a really great champagne vanilla vinaigrette. Would recommend for drinks, light fare or full dinner.
