We booked the Prince Kitano for our stay in New York. It's a small boutique type hotel. They allowed us to check in early. We had a room with 2 full beds. The room was pretty spacey and nice. The bathroom had a bath tub and shower. There was also a bidet and a towel warmer in there which was perfect for the cold weather. There were restaurants in the hotel but we did not check them out. There is a rooftop bar which I did check out. There was snow and ice out so the outdoor rooftop was closed. Customer service was great. The location is close to grand central and several restaurants and shopping establishments. Overall I had a great stay. read more

Great location. A straight shot up Park Ave from Grand Central. Walking distance to Empire State Building, Flat Iron Building and shops on Madison Ave. Our room was clean, located on the 7th floor and had a view of the Empire State Building. Unfortunately our stay was on a day the roof top bar is not open, but we went up there to check it out... looks fun. Breakfast was included in our stay. They do an amazing breakfast and their wait staff are so attentive and friendly. Our stay was a short one nighter as we continued our family trip along the East Coast. The Hotel has a Bell Hop desk you can leave your luggage with if you want to explore the city a little longer after checking out. I loved my 3 night stay here! This hotel is centrally located to everything I was interested in walking to but also Grand Central for unwalkabe destinations. Front desk staff was super welcoming and nice. My room was very comfortable, clean and sleep quality was on point for me. I had a lovely view from my window which was bonus. The rates here were very reasonable for the area and quality, my rate included a food credit, some in room water refreshed daily and a nice little box of chocolates from the chocolatier downstairs. This hotel was excellent! The customer service is friendly, accommodating, and quick. The rooms are spacious and quiet. The beds are cozy and the bathrooms have toilet seats that are warm! Lol if that's something you are looking for! They have a rooftop bar, a Japanese restaurant, a cafe where you can get breakfast, and a store to buy chocolate. A good location near Grand Central Station with easy walks to many places and sites, The staff was very friendly and helpful throughout our stay and the room was, NYC-typical, fairly small but it was clean. I sort of agree with the comments on the pillows not being great and sort of don't. I like a squishy, malleable pillow vs. stiffer foam so they hit the mark on that but they are fairly small so one just won't cut it. All it took was a call to the front desk and more pillows arrived at our door. The bathroom had a Japanese toilet and we left there saying, we need one of those at home! Quite a luxury I think. Wi-Fi was free and worked ok but I wouldn't call it super fast. Generally just our data plans on cellphones worked better. I would agree with some of the negative comments on the mini-bar. Mainly related to how it wasn't fully stocked. Unfortunately the restaurant was not open during our stay which was a shame as the menu looks great but hey, we were in NYC so no shortage of great menus. The rooftop bar was open however. The view is just outstanding and they have a bar bites menu to go along with the cocktails. Service there was good as well. read more

This is perhaps the BEST hotel we've stayed at in NYC. The price was actually very reasonable compared to other places we've stayed over the past 15 years or so. Service was great, room was CLEAN, water pressure was strong, stains ran clear, bed was comfortable. I only wish the on-site restaurant was open during our stay. It's sort of a rip off right now. Their restaurants are closed. The bar is closed. You have to pay for wifi. There's no complimentary water. They give you a "green tea set" but you have to pay $7-10 for a bottle of water from the mini fridge. Fyi I have been to Japan and this place is far from actual Japanese hospitality. They are essentially just using the catchphrase and not actually showing any type of Japanese hospitality. If this hotel was in Japan, they would actually be considered an extremely offensive and bad one. I don't really feel strongly either way about this hotel. It was alright, had both good and bad things. Room was cheap, and the interior of the lobby/mezzanine area are beautiful. We had a very horrible experience when we stayed at the Kitano Hotel in NYC during our last trip on 3/11/2023 to 3/13/2023 During the first night of our stay on 3/11, we found that our bidet was not working properly and that the shower handle was broken. We reported it right away to the front desk. Sharon, from the front desk, handled our call and offered free breakfast as a consolation and she scheduled for maintenance to fix at 11:00 AM the following day. We were very happy with the free breakfast the following day. However, upon returning to the hotel, both bidet and shower handle were not fixed. We did not receive any message nor any acknowledgement at all. While checking out, I reported to Lupe from the front desk that the issue about the broken bidet and shower handle was not addressed as promised. I did not receive any satisfying consolation at all from Lupe. I felt like what I reported was not important for them to pay attention to. After that, when we came home at 6 PM on 3/13, we realized that we forgot in our room a cardboard tube that contained a very valuable artwork upon checking out. We called the hotel. Bill from Security answered and called back that they did not find the art. He said that they will try to contact the house cleaner who cleaned the room and will call back if found. After 2 days and no call back, we called again on 3/15 to follow up - we explained the history to Maho and she said she will check again with security and call us back. It is now 5 days after on 3/18 and no one has returned our call. We are very disappointed as that art piece was very important for us (me and my family). On top of that, the most disappointing piece of this experience is that we have been regular customers of this hotel and we HAD very high regards to their Japanese culture, respect and professionalism. Unfortunately, none of these we experienced on our trip this time. We received broken promises and disrespect. We will not be returning to Kitano anymore. Nothing but good things to say. Superb location, within short walk of Grand Central Station, which allows access by subway to everywhere in NYC. Neighborhood is quiet and we felt safe. Our room was excellent with nice view of the Chrysler building and a comfortable king sized bed. The staff was pleasant and nice, especially Lupe who greeted us. Also we encountered a few engineers (some floors are being updated) including Lubo, in our travels through the hotel, and they were all quite friendly, informative, and seemed to be genuinely interested in our feed back on the rooms. I also felt that they took pride in the hotel, which was nice. We visited the rooftop bar which had spectacular views of the Empire State and Chrysler building, on alternate ends of the bar. Would recommend for its cleanliness. Great view of the Empire State building from the roof. However, be prepared to pay the double price of a drink if you want to enjoy the view. Usual drink price $9 for a mojito and $22 on the roof ;) . Yet, paid it and the view of the Empire State was worthy. First time i review this but if you've heard Ronny Chieng making one of his show detailing all about Japanese toilet and you want to try this without heading to Japan- that is the place. I think this hotel had a lot of both good and bad. Good: 1.) Everyone working seemed polite. 2.) We we're lucky enough to check in early 3.) It is so close to everything, and the view was wonderful. 4.) There are heated towel racks! 5.) It was quiet. I'm not a frequent traveler to the city so it was a nice surprise to find it easy to sleep through the night. 6.) Japanese toilets are always a plus Bad/not my favorite: 1.) A comfortable and enjoyable place to stay in a phenomenal location. The rooms have been re-done recently - one of the only NYC locations I've stayed in that has a counter in the bathroom big enough for both a toothbrush and a hairbrush! The rooftop bar is terrific, especially if the weather cooperates. Amazing view of the Chrysler building on one side and the Empire State Bldg on the other. The not-so-great - I don't love hotels that have fridges you can't use (overpriced bottled water you can't move out of the way or they charge you) and who in 2023 charges for wifi? That's just an expected amenity, especially in a $450/night hotel that caters to business travelers. I would have preferred somewhere to store my clothes rather than the giant desk. read more

This hotel is located in convenient location and small but got the Japanese style. Check in was at 3 pm and they didn't have any room available at 12 pm so we had to pay extra $50 per night to upgrade our room so we could check-in. They also don't allow you to check out a few hours late which other hotels are pretty good with. The room was pretty small and I could smell cigarette from the hall way. (Only had smoking floor available at the time). Right after we checked in and walked into our room to unpack, one of the desk person was trying to open the door to see if anyone was staying inside which was a little weird if they have an electronic system why do they have to check manually? and was a bit rude also. The thing that bugged me about this place is that they DON'T HAVE ENOUGH PLUG INS FOR YOUR ELECTRONICS. i was freaking trying to find an outlet to charge my phone before going to sleep but they didn't have any around the bed... So I had to charge my phone in the bathroom which was annoying. They need to fix that. Only impressed thing I had at this hotel is that they use a bidet which I haven't used in ages. I thought it was pretty cool. Price is a bit higher compared to the quality of the room. I think I would rather stay in another hotel for this price. read more

The Jazz Lounge @ Kitano - just saying it makes me feel cool but old school. It's on the second floor, just above the lobby, but you have to walk through the lobby first, as the stairs are at the other end. So you inevitably pass by the decor and serenity of Kitano and a statue of some kind of an animal that looks like it's been sculpted by a japanese animation artist. (I may just be making this up, I'm no expert). They have a pretty regular schedule of various performances, so check it out if its your piece of cake. I was invited to a special performance of a tango duo. There was a grand piano that fit very neatly in one of the corners. The performance lasted a little over an hour, as we cozied up to each other under dim lighting, around small lounge/bar tables that are not meant to fit the large plates of food that they serve. I'm pretty sure that there is no "typical" crowd here, because the performers seemed to invite a possy of friends and dedicated most of the evening to them. We were probably one of the few non-friends, there, yet still connected through 3 degrees of separation. So I would assume, each performance has its own kind of crowd. There was no cover, but a $15 minimum, which basically buys you one drink (a martini). So unless you have excellent self-control and can stop yourself from glancing over the menu and ordering a bite to eat or two, or another drink, you'll be spending a lot more. My choice of the evening was the asian pear martini with elderflower, which was lovely and thankfully lasted me through the entire performance so that I didn't have to cash out for another one. It also helps that you sort of feel guilty for eating while the musicians are performing. It's like you're sneaking in the food, as if you're not supposed to, even though it makes the waitress quite happy for extending the bill. You also end up sneaking in some texts, to let your friend who was late know where you are. So there was a lot of sneakiness going on taking the focus away from the food, no matter how ravenous you were, and so you don't eat as fast. My three tiny crab cakes and a side of fries that we got for the table, again thankfully lasted me for the entire performance. I would come back here to check out another performance, but would most likely stock up my stomach before doing so. read more

The Kitano is a fantastic boutique hotel conveniently located in the city. It's very clean and with nice decor and comfortable beds. It's true that the rooms aren't spacious, but where in the city will you find spacious rooms unless you're paying an arm and a leg?? The hotel caters to Japanese and foreign clientele, as most of concierge staff speaks either japanese or french, or some other foreign language. I loved the little gift store in the hotel lobby - lots of cute japanese knick knacks and other unique gifts. PLUS, they have shiseido bath products!!! I loved it. read more

We had a truly lovely stay in NYC at the Kitano. We arrived late our first night and the only room left was a small double bed when we had reserved a king. To make up for the error, they upgraded us to a nice corner suite for the remaining 4 nights of our stay at the same price. Loved it. Friends visited and we were able to entertain in our room and then move to the mezzanine sitting area for a dinner that we ordered from a local Thai restaurant. The staff is great. The room was clean and well-maintained (I'll add my own compliments about the toilet seat here). The light switch for the entry area also controlled the outlets near the bed, which was strange and cumbersome. Really nice neighborhood. The chocolate shop in the lobby (with copious free samples) is dangerous :-) read more

Long story by per previous review- we felt so harassed by the bar tender to leave our seats immediately (the place was less than half fill on a early weeknight) after paying for our bill, that we literally ran out of the Kitano and left my handbag at the table! When I realized this, I called and spoke to another lovely hostess the next day who was very reassuring and directed me to security. There I worked with A+ gentleman name Dilly and he help me recover my bag with all its valuable content inside. We are very grateful for this kind and professional help. Good value for the location. Rooms are quiet; you don't get interruptions from inside or outside. Furniture and rooms are slightly dated, but everything felt very clean and well cared for. Bed was comfortable but the pillows were not good for me. I will definitely ask for more if I return on another trip. The room was actually larger than I expected, and was just enough for our needs. Kitano hotel is perfectly located on Park avenue and 38th street, walking distance from Grand Central Station, Penn Station and even Broadway and Time Square if you don't mind a little extra walk. Hotel is well maintained and kept immaculate. They offer various rooms from Superior, Premier, Suites to all the way up to the Tatami Suite. My wife and stayed at the Kitano twice so far and both times we felt welcome and well looked-after by the staff. Check the hotel's web site for specials and packages. http://www.kitano.com Both time we stay ed at the non-smoking tenth floor in a Premier Room(around $300/night). Our room was a corner unit so it was full of light and offered a nice view including the Chrysler building and the Grand Central Station. When you walk in to your room you have a dressing area with closets, slippers, robes, safe and even a shoe horn. It is customary that you remove your shoes and wear slippers before you enter the living/bedroom area in the East. Bathrooms are newly renovated and feature a deep tub, multi head shower, Gilchrist & Soames bath products, hair dryer and towel warmers (which are really nice in the winter). Once you walk in the actual room which is considered large in New York standards, you get hot water kettle with tea cups and green tea, CD/iPod Alarm clock, flat screen TV, mini bar, desk with power and Internet connections and a couch with a coffee table. There is a turn down service but you never see them or you never see any personnel in the hall ways. They are very good at what they do without being noticed. We received breakfast coupons at out check-in but I am not sure if you have to purchase certain package for this. Breakfast is served at the Garden Cafe which is in the back of the hotel's lobby. They also served lunch and dinner here and they have their own menu separate from the Bar Lounge (great Jazz and cocktails) in the mezzanine and Hakubai Japanese (authentic Japanese food served with perfection) restaurant in the lower level. There isn't a gym, as least not that I noticed but I believe they can arrange a session with a health club in the area if you are really in need for a work out.. There is a small gift shop and a business center in the lobby. This hotel is prefect for a great weekend in NYC. You can do so much or do nothing at all and stay in the hotel. They have everything you need for a couple's weekend retreat or business travelers' home away from home comfort and convenience. read more

We walked around NYC all day, so we took a shower before we went out for the evening, to the theater, dinner, etc....so I requested fresh towels on the way out. When we got back, the fresh towels were on the bathroom sink counter, while the towel rack was empty, used towels left behind. That's housekeeping at a 5 star hotel? No, me thinks not. Excellent hotel in Murray Hill, you wouldn't imagine such a quiet and serene place in the middle of Park Avenue. It's owned by a Japanese group, so the majority of the staff (and guests) are Japanese...it has a Japanese restaurant, a Tea Ceremony room and even green tea bags as part of your room's welcoming kit. I was looking forward to stay here and the hotel didn't disappoint me. Rooms are very spacious and bright and the service couldn't be any better, from the front desk to the room service. I also had the chance to go to one of the Jazz Sessions in the bar to see Michelle Walker's Quartet, amazing.
