    Chicken dinner

Made reservations by going on google and tapping the time and it set us up in Open Table. Got there early and were seated immediately in a nice roomy booth. Our fantastic and sweet waiter Jose helped us decide from the wonderful choices and we chose great food. I have been here now three times and have tried three different meals and loved all three. My favorite was the brisket burger with bacon. OMG so delicious and had horseradish and au jus on the side adding to the savory dish. Jose really took good care of us and was so fun to chat with. He made us feel so at home and welcome. I think he needs a raise and a free steak dinner! Seriously he was outstnading outstanding. I only wish I had discovered this place long ago. We need more places near the foothills with fine food and wonderful people running it. Keep it coming. And their desserts here are also Fabulous!!!

Still only love the atmosphere, the service and the drinks here .... The happy hour menu was ok .... Too much chips in everything!

Honestly this place just knows how to do solid food. We came in twice during our visit to LA and both times did not disappoint. Atmosphere is a great level of charming while still modern. They have nice decor on both sides of the establishment and a lively bar that see's strong use. I prefer the booths myself but all seating is solid. The service is probably what surprised me the most. It's incredibly fast for the type of food and what I would typically come to expect from this type of sit down restaurant. It's extremely quick service. From food to drinks it all comes out of the kitchen with great pace which impressed me. Now to the food, I think all around it's high quality and tasty. First time around I got the chicken pasta and second time the club sandwich. Both were tasty and delicious. The ingredients taste fresh and the portions are large. All in all I don't think you can go wrong with many of the options. Definitely a place I'd head back to!

HAPPY HOUR details. Also noticed the "Asian Owned Business" and Health Dept. "A" rating signs.

dineLA menu at $35/person for 3 courses First visit during this summer's dineLA week. First thing I noticed was that the parking in front is extremely tight. There's some additional parking in the rear, and a few spaces on the street, but can be tough. Also, the WiFi was very spotty. Gigi waited on us and the service was good. It was a super busy night, and the staff were really hustling. We started with a couple cocktails/mocktails which were well-made. The three of us ordered off the dineLA menu, and the appetizers and entrees were very good. Gigi did a great job making sure that the various courses didn't come out on top of each other. Unfortunately, they were out of the Warm Butter Cake, however it was substituted with a delicious Italian Lemon Cake. I have a feeling that The Proper is a lively, locals place with good vibes and tasty drinks/eats. They offer a daily Happy Hour from 4-6pm, Martini Mondays, Taco Tuesdays, and Wine Wednesdays. Definitely worth a return visit to check out more of their menu (and the Warm Butter Cake!)

Came during dine LA week so they had some fun specials. I had the braised short rib (was a smaller portion with the dine LA menu) but it was so good. They also had some fun drinks, a little pricier than a typical cocktail bar. The service was great.

What an amazing find in our trip out to Flintridge La Canada! The Proper Restaurant is a beautiful restaurant bar. We caught happy hour. Everything we ordered was fantastic. Our server was very kind and provided us great options for food and drinks. Shrimp Tacos, Braised Beef Tacos, Deviled Eggs and Hibiscus Margarita. Highly recommend!

Other than the chips being stale, everything else about my meal was really yummy. I ordered the shrimp tacos which came with a delicious chicken tortilla soup. I like the ambiance of the place a lot and was shocked I hadn't noticed this place earlier. It's tucked away, but I think that's what makes it special. The interior sort of reminded me of Catcher in the Rye in studio city with its library style effect.

I love the vibe of this place. We went here for cocktails on a Friday night and sat at the bar and it was the perfect way to unwind after a long week. The bartender was great and made our drinks just the way we like it. Definitely a great spot for date night. The restaurant is also super cute and would definitely come back to try their menu.

I loved the atmosphere in here! It's like we're dining in a library. I really loved the service too. I decided to share an entree with my boyfriend and the kitchen was kind enough to split it for us. So what you see in the picture is my portion of the entree and my boyfriend was the same. That stuck with me because I don't think I've experienced another restaurant that does that for you. The most I usually get is they give extra plates to share. The pasta was delicious as well as the wine, so I would love to come back here again!

This was more expensive and upscale than I was expecting, but it was a pleasant experience. The staff was great and the decor was absolutely stunning. The hibiscus margarita and white sangria were very good. The presentation of the Scottish Salmon was messy, but the dish was great. That lemon butter...so good. There were many things on the menu I was deciding between, so I cannot wait to return and try something new!

I live pretty far away from here, but this is my go-to for dinner and/or drinks when I'm in the neighborhood. I love that it kind of feels vintage and classy yet really comfortable and friendly. They have one of the best espresso martinis I've ever had in my life, and I would consider myself a connoisseur. I wish I lived closer!

    Blackened Shrimp Tacos

The shrimp tacos are DELICIOUS. A must try. This place has daily happy hour deals that includes food and drinks. Our waitress was super friendly, attentive, and proactive. She new I was going to order another drink and brought over a second one as soon as she noticed I was done with the first. Love the decor. Not a loud place but not quiet. Family friendly. Parking was easy and we didn't have to wait for a seat. We went in a Sunday at 5pm.

Despite being so close to a seafood restaurant, I never expected one of my favorite shrimp dishes to come from here. I'm glad I took the chance. The shrimp were tender and full of garlic flavor, and the creamy white wine sauce was rich without being too heavy. The spaghetti was cooked perfectly, and the fresh tomatoes, basil, and Parmesan added just the right balance. The warm French bread was perfect for soaking up every bit of the sauce. This dish completely exceeded my expectations and has earned a permanent spot on my list of favorites. Basin 141 continues to impress with both its consistency and its willingness to surprise.

However, the description of the Shrimp in the menu made me want to try it. I made the decision and was I delighted. A perfect combination that should be entered in a culinary contest, it was that good. Elliott was the wonderful server who paid great attention to us and while one of our favorite waitresses, Paige has moved on, there is another Paige who was wonderful to us. As Basin 141 turns to another Paige (sorry, I had to), we are as well and are seriously looking to move to Montrose as it's a wonderful town and with this restaurant in the same area, we could become frequent flyers. It may be best known as a bar because of their incredible selections, but this wonderful establishment is a fantastic restaurant with out door seating. We love the Basin 141 experience and will be back again and again.

We had been to this small quaint and beautiful little restaurant in Montrose before and wanted to try it again. We loved their little Spanish style courtyard, the tapas, paellas, and the setting felt so good for little date night after being away for so long. Unfortunately things did not go as planned. We made reservations for 7:15pm and were hardly even greeted by the hostess that seemed she'd rather be elsewhere then to welcome us to Casa Cordoba. Problem was though even after setting the reservation time and arriving exactly at 7:15pm we weren't seated for 15min even though we saw our table being cleaned and set and just sit there unoccupied for over 15min. So we waited. When we finally sat down...our server didn't come by for another 10-15min. But we were patient and we waited. Alvin finally came -- brought us water and opened the wine we brought. A special one for this type of occasion (corkage fee was $30). We ordered the paella with squid ink and seafood since it takes up to 45min to prepare and sat down to enjoy the wine and take in the setting. That night they had live music -- a guy on an acoustic guitar playing some cool songs, from Maroon 5 to Backstreet Boys on a 12 string...at least it was live. It was pleasant. The server didn't attend to us much and just had an air about him. Idk -- they may have been super busy but wasn't sure. Finally the paella came. It was...good. Not plentifully. 7-8mussels, a quarter of an octopus tentacles, and a couple of calamari. If you're thinking that much it and rice then you're right. It was mainly rice. No vegetables accompanying it but that's the dish. That was $57 for the small version. I've made paella before. It takes time and it's a production -- but at least at home I can make one for half that price for 8 people. Maybe that's why we don't go out so often bc it ends sometimes like this. We expect a nice meal, a welcoming host or hostess, a server who enjoys the food and atmosphere and makes us feel at home, and food that we could never prepare at home. It's suppose to be an experience that you are happy to pay for. This wasn't. We were disappointed and just felt like wanting to leave. The last straw was when I signed the check on a toast machine and asked for the printed copy. The server, Alvin just left the toast machine with us and left -- attending to others and leaving us with this machine. All I wanted at the end was a thank you for dining with us and the printed copy. We had to flag another server for that copy. He eventually came, with disdain written all over and just handed me the copy, as if I had taken his time to get my the receipt which I asked. That pretty much did it. I asked to speak with the manager and was told--"oh sure. I can get him--he's the chef, give me a minute." I was floored!! No wonder!!! The chef. The back of house manager is also the front of house manager!! That says a lot. You're front of house and your guests are not being taken care of? What kind of restaurant is this? With these prices? Regardless that was it. We left -- had some great ice cream and spoke about the whole experience all the way back home. Great date night eh? Not returning.

This is the only steakhouse or restaurant I've found in LA County, that does a true prime-rib dip sandwich, their "Beefeater Dip". Not those things with paper thin slices of overcooked beef, although tasty not a true prime-rib sandwich. I went to college in San Francisco where Haufbrau's were a thing, sadly no more (No German food in sight other than chubby knackwurst) with rather a short selection of quality food served sort of buffet style. There was at least a half a dozen Haufbrau's serving roast turkey, prime rib, corned beef, ham, spaghetti etc. and a selection of sides, mashed and boiled potatoes, turkey dressing, veggie, etc. and great SF sourdough bread. They all had great "French Dip" sandwich's their signature dish, (because of the competition to outcompete) on amazing SF sourdough baguette with true Au Jus. They always had lines around the block particularly at lunch time. In 1971 you could get a hefty French dip, with two sides, mashed potatoes and turkey dressing with gravy and a Coke for 90 cents. Today $30.00 bucks at Tommy's Joynt 55 years later. . Now have lived long enough to tell my story, nothing changes. I can remember my mom telling me when she was high school in 1941, you could buy a hot dog, chips and a coke and entrance to a movie for .25 cents on Fridays, $13.25 without the movie today at Pinks, 84 years later. Just a side note Pink's makes one of the best hamburgers in LA. Go finger, indeed. . The point is, I'm spoiled. A French Dip isn't truly a French Dip unless the beef is thick sliced off a rib roast. Taylors French Dip is the real thing. If anyone knows of a good or better one please let me know. There are somewhat of, not too close, two second places, Tam O'shanters Atwater Village and at Chris & Pits, of the famous bbq sauce, in Downey and Bellflower, but not on par with Taylor's. Checkout Tommy's Joynt on Yelp in San Francisco for the feel of a Frisco Haufbrau, one of the last ones standing. It looks a mess, but in spite of that the food was great. Don't ever get the "Beefeater Dip," if you are not prepared to be unhappy with having anything less, which I guarantee will be your fate. The only thing I don't like about the restaurant is the awful lighting. I feel like I'm in a dungeon, everything feels like a shade of gray and dingy . A hang out for zombies, not flattering to the decor or skin. The place would look a whole nicer if they hired a quality professional lighting designer. It would really bring out the charm of the bygone era design. Plus it would increase their revenue. It's the one thing so many restaurants fail at, and they have no concept of what I'm talking about. But if hey could only see the difference, they'd understand. Wish I had taken a picture, next time.

A decent portion-sized snack, each spud stick was hot, steaming, and thick and came with a side of ketchup. https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw&start=24&select=GVoy0nzxFUL6rHWaxNdG7Q SERVICE We were warmly greeted by a sole young woman behind the bar who handed us a menu and directed us to sit anywhere. After a few minutes of reviewing the menu, we each placed our order at the bar, our drinks were delivered quickly while the food took mere minutes to arrive at the table. We had to approach the bar each time we ordered something, but any empty glasses and plates were collected at the table. Once we closed out our tabs, we were thanked for coming as we headed out into the night. Everything was chill and easy - thank you! PARKING (Varied; FREE this instance): I parked in the nearby original Glendale Galleria parking structure and simply walked over first to The Americana then to this place. Otherwise, there was limited parking along the main drag of Brand Blvd. and other surrounding side streets, the nearby Glendale Galleria II parking structure, The Americana parking structure that offered validation, numerous public transportation options, and rideshares - 'nuff said! ATMOSPHERE, DÉCOR, AMBIENCE A dark cavernous speakeasy-like place with open space, various tables and couches strewn about, and a large long somewhat decorative bar with an impressive whiskey selection displayed behind it. I appreciated the exposed brick walls which gave it that old-time feel with a few framed pictures hung on them. Minimal natural lighting came through the front doors and windows while minimal electric ceiling lights filled in rest. There was at least one projection TV where we watched the Dodgers game while music played in the background. https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw&start=24&select=SomLKsk1KVcemeOCHGOZfg ATTIRE Totally casual, so I would normally be in a t-shirt, boardshorts, and flip-flops. OVERALL It was nice to slip into The Famous Bar for the first time in over a decade, and if I found myself spending time in downtown Glendale again, I'd consider another visit. Sadly, I try to avoid the highly congested area as much as possible. I loved the fact that they had a daily happy hour (4pm-7pm) and late-night SU-TH happy hours (10:30pm-close), so there was always a deal to be found. The drinks were the main reason you came, while the food was just an add-on. The prices were elevated, but you had a good menu selection of libations (nice local craft beer list) to choose from. The customer service was easy, friendly, and straightforward. I found very good value based on the prices, service, and experience noted above (TOTAL paid experience was around $42.00 BEFORE any discounts/tip). And, they accepted my credit card of choice... My wife and I were looking for a place to hold an intimate brunch following our legal marriage…read moreceremony. We knew we wanted to keep it local to South Pasadena, so what better place than the historic The Raymond 1886. We contacted the restaurant in hopes that we could rent out one of their spaces for our celebration. Kevin, the Special Event Manager, reached out to us and we scheduled a walkthrough of spaces. They have two spaces that can be used for bigger groups. There's the Sunroom, which holds about 15 people, and then there's the outside patio in the back which is able to accommodate 25+. Since we had a smaller guest list, 14 people, we decided to go with the Sunroom. Fun fact it was recently renovated and you can definitely tell as the space was perfect! Kevin was a great partner the entire way through and was extremely helpful at answering all of our questions. We were allowed to customize the food menu and drinks for our guests, plus someone from our group was able to get there a bit before our reservation to decorate the tables. Kevin and our server Chris made us feel like VIPs on this special day! I don't think at any point my wife and I were without a drink so cheers to that Chris! Booking the Sunroom came with a 3 course meal with multiple options, we were allowed to pick these, and we had the entire room for 3 hours (12pm-3pm). Honestly, we could not have asked for a better experience with an intimate brunch with our close loved ones. If you're looking for a space for a special celebration I highly recommend checking out The Raymond 1886. Thank you for all of your help Kevin! Looking forward to my next visit!
