It seems all restaurants inside the glacier national park seem to have very similar menu. The drinks menu here and on the Russel dining room in lake McDonald lodge was exactly the same. A couple of food items are different though. I had the confit of duck legs and we also had the ribeye that we both thought were overpriced but tasted ok. All items are overpriced we felt and we may want to stick to the restaurant at swiftcurrent lodge that is still decently priced. Just for the view of the lake we may try this again. As for the servicing staff they're all very good. Took great care of us and also helped with the suggestions. Desserts also seem to be the same in the entire park. I had the chocolate flourless cake all 3-4 days I stayed in both sides of the park. It's not the best but remaining items didn't seem worthy too. read more

Please save your money to eat something else even just the pub next door where it serves sandwiches. the service was awful. I get they are seasonal but it's August and they are still not trained at this point that's a problem. our waitress has no idea what's in the menu and doesnt know what's prime rib i had to point it out on the menu to show her what i'm ordering. and for steaks, she didnt ask how to be cooked, until she is ready to walk away we told her how I want my steak to be cooked. The bison rib is way overcooked in the oven, it's almost like a jerky, super tough to eat and dry. worst bison ever. The prime rib served in a very pale color that ive never seen a beef that pale. and it's barely cooked , even the fat part is light pink that's undercooked. this place is only for a convenience of getting around in Many Glacier area especially during the construction, limited vehicle allowed inside. but the rooms are tiny and outdated. food are awful. worst money spent in the whole trip. read more

Not as good as Russell's Fireside Dining in Lake McDonald, but an amazing view. Located within the historic Many Glacier Hotel, this dining room opens at 5 and all the window seats are taken within minutes of opening. The menu offerings are similar to that of Russell's, with slightly more and different entree options. The steak was okay - technically nothing wrong with it, but it just didn't stand out for what you're paying. We had the Smoked Trout Dip as a starter and that was actually pretty good, speaking as someone that tends to not like anything with fish in it. 4 of use ate breakfast and dinner here during our stay at Many Glacier hotel (our second time in 2 years). service is incredible--every time. Setting is beautiful-- great views out floor to ceiling windows. Breakfast--a standard buffet with fruit, pastries, sausage, bacon, scrambled eggs two ways (thankfully one had no bell peppers) and potatoes two ways. Solid choiced and better than average for a buffet. Dinner--nice that the dinner buffet (during covid) is now back to a sit down menu. and the waitress/waiters are very familiar with celiac disease and willing to help out with dining choices--as well as the kitchen being very flexible--lots more choices for gluten free than the published menu suggests. one night we had king salmon cake app--excellent. The arugula salad was excellent-wife and I had it two nts in a row. My wife and I shared the King salmon--very nice fish but the sauce on top was too salty. Son got chicken --"super juicy and tender" over mashed potatoes upon request.--2 nights in a row. Desserts were decadent . The hotel was very full so the wait for dinner was about 1 hour from the time you put your name in--I wish they took reservations--I've never been late to one. read more

I would not reccomend this place to anyone. I've eaten here 3 nights. All 3 nights they were missing several things on their menu which is a small menu to start off with. Things as simple as ravioli and chicken. They don't take reservations but insist you come in an hour in advance to get a time and then after that you still get seated a half hour late. The arugula salad was really salty and the pasta tasted disgusting and came out in the wrong size. Everything was way too salty. The server seemed to disappear after the first time he poured us water. The staff managed to get every single thing wrong, from people's orders having extra meals added to them not having at least 3 of the drinks we asked them for after being told they had it each time, to even bothering to uncork and pour a bottle of wine ordered for the table or bringing out glasses for the wine. Staff seemed to vanish only to reappear just to tell us they forgot what we ordered and what we were still waiting to receive. When we received the bill, they added items an extra order of short ribs to the bill. The room looked nice, but the windows that overlook the lake were constantly blinding us with the sun reflecting off the water and the windows having nothing to obscure it. This doesn't show up on the map as being inside Many Glacier Hotel. My family and I are both lunch and dinner here while staying at the hotel. Lunch was decent. But I can't give more than 1 star because of the worse than worst food our entire table had for dinner. The arugula salad was beyond too salty. The added chicken breast looked and tasted awful. The vegetables were inedible. The teenagers wanted the pasta & it wasn't available. It was substituted for a different pasta that neither of them liked. And the mashed potatoes with the duck confit were a total of about 3 bites. Dining is slim pickings if you don't want to drive 20+ minutes. But absolutely don't get dinner from here. Or at least if you do, don't order the arugula salad, off-menu pasta when the menu pasta isn't available, duck confit, or roasted chicken. read more

This place was so amazing we ate here twice in two days. The wait staff are amazing, especially Jessie who made our elopement dinner extra special by snagging us a table by the window with a beautiful view and recommending the perfect bottle of bubbly to get in lieu of champagne. The fried portabella mushrooms were delicious; lightly battered and flash fried so they weren't too heavy or oily. The lemon parsley aioli they came with provided a nice balance of acid and creaminess. The crab cakes were some of the best we've ever had. They had the best possible ratio of crab to breading and veggies (red and green peppers and red onions). These were also perfectly fried with no excessive oil with so much flavor and not at all fishy. For our main both meals, we got the lentil burger. It was fabulous! The lentils and whatever else went into had such an awesome taste and texture. It was topped with yummy caramelized onions and a balsamic glaze. We truly loved dining here! read more

Best dining option in the Glacier NP unless you packed in your own camp fire steak. The view, ambiance, and service are all 5*. The menu options are pretty good. I ordered the prime ribs & my husband had the Waygu steak and salad first. All are very tasty. They have a reasonable wine list too. I have couple tasting before landing on one to pair with my steak. I have a gluten allergy, so I need to be gluten free. In their menu, they have a HUGE section on the 1st page that shows GF = Gluten Free, but they only tagged 1 appetizer (a soup) as gluten free. When we went to order, of course they had substituted that soup for a soup with gluten. Additionally, the people writing the menu clearly understand what allergies are, as they had a whole paragraph about Celiac and gluten cross-contamination. Unfortunately, they had not trained their staff in the same way. When we ordered, I asked the waiter several times to check if they could do something gluten free, as the host had said they could with changes. He said he checked with the chef before we placed our order and said he could do a special order. Our food arrived 5 min later and my wife's food was cold and mine was warm, so there is no way they had time to make mine special order. I don't know why they wasted their time on the menu, they should have just said - if you have a gluten allergy, we really don't care. Unfortunately if you stay at this hotel, you really don't have other options for dinner. Beautiful location otherwise, Glacier Park is wonderful. read more

Imagine a restaurant with cathedral ceilings, massive stone fireplace, white table cloth tables, hardwood floors, with a string of large windows showing idyllic scenes on the edge of a blue mountain lake, green forests in the background, with soaring alpine mountains and distant glaciers. Switzerland? Canada? This is the Ptarmigan restaurant in the classic and historic Many Glacier Hotel in Glacier National Park. 2. Ptarmigan is right up there with the top dining halls in hotels in our National Parks, such as the Ahwahnee in Yosemite, Lake Yellowstone, and El Tovar in the Grand Canyon. 3. I was here for 8 days, and split my meals between Ptarmigan and Swiss Lounge during that time. 4. Not too many choices when you are 20 miles and 40 minutes from the next nearest complex of restaurants in St Mary's on the east end of Going to the Sun road. Swiftcurrent motor lodge a mile down the road with a pizza joint. 5. Ptarmigan is open 630am-10am for breakfast, 1130am-2pm for lunch, and 530pm-930pm for dinner, during the short season of Many Glacier hotel from late June through September. 6. Ahwahnee, Lake Yellowstone and El Tovar require advance reservations. Not here. No advance reservations -first come first served. People waiting for a table sign in, and sit in the lounge, with padded chairs facing the lake. 7. Get here at opening for breakfast, lunch or dinner, and you are seated right next to the window, with a front row view of deep blue Swiftcurrent Lake. Across the Lake is the first of many mountains rising right next to the shoreline of green forests. Glaciers and snow on the shady areas of the mountains nearby. Sun gradually setting over and then behind the mountains. A million dollar view, which even the grandeur of the Grand Canyon at the El Tovar would be hard to match! 8. They have both a $15 continental -oatmeal, pastries, bread, toast, muffins, fruit- and $19 full breakfast buffet -scrambled eggs, eggs benedict, bacon, sausage, ham, smoked salmon with juice. I thought the orange juice was watered down -not mixed properly from concentrate. 9. I didn't care too much for the oatmeal of the continental buffet, so I usually had the $11 two eggs any style, with string potatoes, 4 sausage, and 2 wheat toast, with water. 10. Only ate lunch here twice, when it rained in August, and ate their $12 1/3 lb Glacier hamburger with lettuce, tomatoes, onions, accompanied by fries. My wife had the bison burger. 11. Lots of additional choices for dinner. Hot bread served. My favorite dish was the $23 7 oz prime rib, a bit on the tough side, but a very large portion -I think the 7 oz was the weight after cooking -definitely Montana sized even for a big eater like myself! They also had 10 and 14 oz portions for you really big eaters! 12. I also liked the farmer's mixed salad, with mixed greens lettuce, tomatoes, raw onions, green beans, and rye croutons, and the $15 wheat pasta dish, with squash, onions, and added grilled chicken breast. 13. Another good dish was the sausage sampler, especially the hot sausage! 14. The wife had the $28 duck one night -good but very small portion, quail the next night -lots of bones, the $29 salmon, and $32 trout. Salmon was OK, but the trout was outstanding. She also had the $15 Portobello mushroom stroganoff -portion too small for me. 15. Waiting times varied by when we arrived -at 530pm no waiting, but at 645pm the wait was 45 minutes. We had only 2 people and so could go over to the next door Swiss lounge and eat. More than 2 people? You were pretty much stuck waiting to eat at the Ptarmigan. 16. The staff were usually college age kids from foreign countries, who unlike housekeeping, were fluent in English, and could understand complex orders, like gluten free food, from demanding clientele! The only thing they couldn't understand was how to spell my wife's name, Janeen, on the waiting list! 17. I dressed every day in shorts, T-shirt and light blue womens Chako sports sandals, an outfit that would have got me tossed on my butt at the Ahwahnee dinner place on any of three counts -no shorts, no T-shirts and no flip flops! read more

Four of us ate at Ptarmigan restaurant. Out of the four, two ordered an add on of Salmon that they requested to be well done. It was raw for both orders. Two of us ordered the Pasta and both were cold and had no flavor. The only order that was decent was the chicken sandwich. We also waited 1 1/2 hours to get our orders. After having to send the Salmon back it was closer to 2 hours. Unless you are desperate do not eat here! read more

Not recommended. Try instead the smaller restaurant at the Motor Inn down the road. Do not go to the Swiss Lounge either. They share the same menu and kitchen as the Ptarmigan but have fewer entree selections. Five stars for the atmosphere. One star for the food. Minus 3 stars for value. THE GOOD The scenery is amazing. You can't beat the location. This is one of the most epic locations for a restaurant in the world. That is not hyperbole. Maybe just go here for drinks. The building itself is historic. The dining room is the size of a football field, with high vaulted ceilings. The building is a feat of engineering and a testament to American ingenuity and craftsmanship and pride. It's beautiful. Our server was polite. THE BAD Value matters, though. We waited 80 minutes after checking in to be seated. Which is not surprising given that the only other place to eat in Many Glaciers is the smaller grease pit at the Motor Inn a half mile down the road. I wish we had gone there instead. The food selection was great. But the portions were ridiculously small. That in and of itself isn't necessarily bad and I didn't deduct for that. We ordered the crab cakes appetizer. It was mediocre at best. We regretted ordering it. But my wife ordered the Buffalo Tenderloin. It was overlooked and the potatoes were dry and she couldn't eat them. For $40 she expected much better. We don't normally spend that much on a plate but figured what the hell its Glacier and a cool place. Our water glasses spent more time empty than full - I was parched, but it seems like they were really busy - too busy - so they couldn't attend to us and we waited a lot. I left the restaurant thirsty. My plate was mediocre. I ordered the surf and turf - I recall it being about $20 but I've had much better burgers for $7. Heck, even an In-and-Out Double Double was better than this burger. The mushrooms do not blend with the rest of the burger. They ruined the taste for me (and I like mushrooms) so I scraped them off. That made it edible for me. Our tab came to $75 with the one appetizer and two entrees. We don't drink alcohol and just had water. We waited forever to get the check. We only had cash (a $100 bill) and as a result of waiting forever (more than 10 minutes) for the waitress to come and collect it to give us change so I could tip her, we ended up just leaving because we were so angry. So that waitress ended up with a hell of a tip even though she did a lousy job. We just didn't want to waste any more time in there because the sunset was coming on and that was worth more to us (and leaving that place) than waiting for my change. I cut my losses and we enjoyed an epic sunset. read more

All the food had to be ordered to go and you can eat in the dining or bar/lounge area so you you can still take in the beautiful views. There was no wait service or refills on drinks and they didn't offer water service either so be sure to bring your water bottle and fill up at the bottle fill station. Although the website claims lunch service until 3pm, we arrived a little bit after 2pm, and were told that we would have to sit in the lounge area (not at a proper table) and that we could only order off the bar menu. We were hungry, so we went along with this. The bar menu was enough for our needs - we got a variety of burgers and chicken sandwiches that were all cooked very well, and the french fries were delicious! The Dining room was beautiful, despite having to sit on sofas, eating hunched over a low table. Our server seemed annoyed with us, so I can only assume that they don't like dealing with people ordering food outside of 'regular' hours. So if you are scanning for places to eat while on your GNP trip you probably already know there are not many places to dine so you are a bit captive when you arrive at one of the historic hotels. We were in GNP at the very end of the season - only days away from the Many Glacier Hotel closing but they still seemed to have all items on the menu and I believe it was the regular menu. We went for lunch and from what I can tell the menu for the Ptarmigan and the other dining area (the Swiss Lounge) is the same, however the view for at the Ptarmingan is fantastic! You obviously have the best view at one of the tables by the window but you will still have a nice view anywhere else in the restaurant. I do like that the hotels try to utilize local ingredients and have a few unique local items on the menu (i.e. bison burger). Many of the hotels in GNP are run by the same company (Exterra I think the name is) and they have a similar menu and employ young adults from around the world. The food was fresh, a little pricey - but that was to be expected, and the service was good. We did not stay at the hotel which would have been nice to do for a night or two but you've got to plan ahead to do that and I believe it is fairly pricey to stay there.
