The Pub is far and away my favorite restaurant. It's unique in every way. It's been around since long before I was born (since 1950). It's survived burning to the ground and once going out of business. Through all of that nothing much has changed at all. One of the first unique things about The Pub is the HUGE dining room. The slightly medieval themed room seats over 500 people at a time yet it's still quiet. I've never heard anything above a low murmur and there is always plenty of room to move around as you go to one of the two salad bars. Speaking of the salad bars, they are fantastic. They include blocks of cheese from which you can cut off slices, various kinds of cake breads (in case the delicious crusty bread on your table isn't enough for you) fruit, applesauce, along with a wide variety of salads and salad ingredients. However, I usually skip past most of this stuff and head right to the giant bowl of Caesar salad and pile my plate high. The Pub's Caesar salad is one of the best I've had. The always fresh salad is made especially delicious by the plentiful anchovies scattered throughout. The focal point of the dining room is the row of six coal fired ovens where chefs in big white hats turn out fantastic steaks. The pub has a fair number of entrees ranging from seafood to chicken, to all sorts of steaks. I, however, typically stick to the best filet mignon I've had at any restaurant. It's served with massive onion rings and a potato. I recommend the twice baked stuffed potato. I also recommend that you ask for some of their browned onions to go with your steak. They're free, but you have to ask for them. In another unique touch, your steak will arrive at your table on a cart to be taken from a heated tray and plated right at the table. If you want something a little more unique, try my father's favorite, the carpetbagger. It's a filet spread with crabmeat and hollandaise sauce. The only negative is the location. Although, it's certainly never stopped me from going. The Pub is located at the maze of an intersection that used to be Airport Circle. It might take you a few tries to get in the correct lane. First time in this dump and I will never come back! The place is ancient and smells like piss, but my friends and I still tried it. We ordered our food and it took an hour to get. I didn't get my order and another hour later still hadn't received it. I complained to a guy "manager" and he got aggressive and wanted to fight. The owner came and all she would tell me is that she is not going to charge me for my order only. I watched my friends eat. The owner knows nothing about customer service. I've been dining at The Pub for literally as long as I can remember. I haven't been there in over a year due to Covid and went tonight with friends as we were craving a good steak. Bad choice. Service was horrible - salad bar options were the same selection as I remembered but quality was sub par (mushy- flat tasting- just blecch) - and now for the entree - I ordered my usual 9 oz filet, medium well, and a baked potato. The filet was over cooked (no pink at all throughout) and tasted more like dry roast beef. The potato was a bit undercooked and yet somehow still dry as well (and for $39.99). A glass of Merlot was $10. Our server could have been having a bad day but had seriously zero personality. ZERO. Our family has been coming to the pub for over 50 years. It was always a fantastic place to treat yourself and your family until new owners took over(or at least that's what it seems like). This visit was just me and my father dining in. I ordered the filet and he ordered the special which was African cold water lobster tail. The tail was about 120 dollars. My steak was excellent as always, but my fathers lobster was dry and seemed over cooked. When we told the waitress she seemed like she didn't know what to do. We asked for another tail or to take it off the bill. Seems fair. Well she got the manager and the manager said they would not make another one or take it off the bill because "they are to expensive". Well I don't see how that is our fault? We didn't overcook it. Anyway we went back and forth and the manager called the cops! How embarrassing! The cops did come and after hearing from us they were kind of in disgust and disbelief that they didn't offer to make a new one, but since it was a private business they couldn't do anything about it and just to pay by card. The Pub is obviously a hot spot for birthdays and occasions, but I'm not sure why. It's loud and crowded, the decor is dated, and it's expensive. Wait time exceeded estimate by nearly 30 minutes, but group organizer said they wouldn't accept her reservation. Bad beer and liquor list - the "Bud, Bud Light" variety. Overcooked steaks met with a response of "well, would you like a new one?" Um, no, nevermind, he'll just eat this one that looks like it came out of a vending machine and is about as tender as a pair of Doc Martens. Aside from the decent salad bar, the food was about as good as you'd expect at a third rate wedding, which is to say not very good. The Pub is too big for the food or service to be great. There were, however, about 7 varieties of Victoria's Secret body spray available for use in the ladies room, so if you enjoy smelling like a stripper or preteen, there's your silver lining. read more

The (disgusting) smoke would hover, and you'd be hit with it as soon as you walked into the main entrance / lounge. I'm fairly certain if you sniffed the decor today you'd still smell that smoke. The main dining room is sight to behold. The room is filled with the glorious smell of hot ovens, steak, potatoes, and huge slices of cake (you can't smell them, but you'll see them, which is enough). The pricing is right in-line with what you get - and that is awesome. Large, juicy steaks and potatoes that have been done the same way since 19-whenever. This place is weird as all hell. It honestly looks like those gigantic factory restaurants they had at Disney world in the 1980s-1990s. It is a large open room with tables backs to back to back. The food is OK. I had the chopped steak (maybe it was called tips) I am not sure. Clearly these were the scraps from other cut steaks. Each piece tasted different and 1 or 2 pieces actually tasted like old bad meat. The person I came with enjoyed his meal much more and said he wanted to come back with his wife. I would not go back. They need a major face lift and a new menu. I would really give this restaurant a 2.5 but that isn't an option. I only gave it a 3 because my lunch mate said he liked it. This is a tough one. Forget the decor. Who cares?! The good: The steaks are really good. Ok, I temper that a bit. I got a 16 oz ribeye for $27 which included the salad bar, potato, and the steak. That's an unbelieveable price. The salad bar is pretty sad but nothing terrible. The Ceasar was pretty good. And they have some cheeses there too. The steaks aren't prime, but they're a pretty good cut of meat. And it was cooked perfectly. I'd like to see them season them a bit. It's just grilled steak. So, add salt and pepper and A-1, Tabasco, or Worchestire sauce to give it a bit more flavor. The bad. My wife got the grilled vegetables. I warned her to get steak but she wasn't feeling it. Besides, grilled vegetables from the wood fired grill should be pretty good, right?! Nope. Giant pieces of broccoli, cauliflower, tomatoes, etc. They were kissed by heat with no char, nor grilling, really no cooking either. I had another great meal at The Pub over the weekend, but they still have those stupid TVs in their dining room. While reading a review of America's best bars, Esquire removed a bar, which had been on the list for years, because they added televisions to their bar! The best bars and restaurants, don't encourage viewing, but eating and drinking. One very good reason for removing the TVs, has to do with something that happened on Saturday. My son was eating his food, and Dr. Pimple Popper was on the TV! No need to say anymore on that issue. Our server was excellent, she was very attentive, and was quick to meet our dining needs. I've always enjoyed seeing those same guys at the hearths. If any of those guys happens to be at your July Fourth party, get away from the grill, because those guys know what they are doing. Um.. no.. we haven't been here before ... The salad bar... it was good. one patron complained that things weren't labeled. Honey if u need a label to identify broccoli... u have issues. Oh Pub, how I have missed thee. Good God, why haven't I visited you lately?! I just got home from an extremely delicious dinner at The Pub after having been on a 15 year sabbatical from this fine establishment. I feel like I have been cheating on thee because I have been known to have been carousing with the likes of Texas Roadhouse and Outback Steakhouse during the past 15 years. While the chain steakhouses are good, they don't even come remotely close to this long time Pennsauken staple; they are THAT good. As others have stated, you don't come here for the updated atmosphere. What you do come here for is some damn good meat at a great price, the UNIQUE decor and great service. Walking into the restaurant you are thrown through a time warp and you pop up in the 60's or 70's, yet the whole thing just seems to work. The Pub is a place that you go to as an experience rather than just going through the motions of "going out for a bite." This time around my party was seated at a table closest to the cooks and the charcoal ovens which provided us the ability to watch up-close what these meat mavericks do to provide delicious steaks to the eagerly waiting patrons. I watched these guys closely and wondered to myself how these guys keep the quality so good while cooking meat for a HUGE dining room packed with customers while making it look easy. Kudos to the chefs! I had the prime rib special which came with fried shrimp and a twice baked potato. The prime rib was done perfectly (medium rare) and was the size of my head! The shrimp were few in numbers (2) but were GIGANTIC and tasted great. The potato was good, but could have been seasoned a little better. Hey, for $27 I don't think that you could find a better deal considering you also get access to the salad bar. The salad bar isn't the best I have ever had, but it had plenty of options. The macaroni, as well as the potato salads were under-seasoned also. Maybe they are just being conscious of your sodium intake as it relates to blood pressure? However, the anchovies in my caesar salad more than made up for the lack of salt in other items. Others in my party had the "carpet bagger" which consisted of a filet topped with a huge crab cake, potato and green beans. Everyone who had it agreed that the carpet bagger was excellent. Excellent old school, classic dining experience. The Swiss bar is awesome, with several options and a delicious Cesar salad. They have huge blocks of fresh cheese to cut your own slabs on the salad bar as well. Fresh baked crusty bread delivered to your table was warm and delicious. I ordered the classic shrimp cocktail, good as it gets. My 24 ounce porter house was seasoned well and looked great. It was cooked to my specifications, mid rare. I have been at the PUB several times over the past 22 years, almost yearly. My husband was born and raised in Merchantville, so we have came back to the area quite often. We have NEVER had a bad experience. Yeah there might have been a time where our steak was not cooked to our preference but never complained or sent back. Besides that the steaks are quite large, no complaints. Tonight our experience was exceptional!!! Started out with pre dinner cocktails at the lounge before heading to the dining room. A little pricey, yeah but boy were they strong. Into dinner. The salad bar was fresh and clean! The Caesar salad was awesome. I had the burgundy street sirloin and husband had the manager's special prime rib. Medium rare on both. They came exactly that. Again, only complaint was that the steaks are large. Service was excellent. Patti was on spot. She popped from nowhere and took glasses and plates when they were emptied. The PUB is an old school steak house. It's really an awesome experience!! We've been coming to the Pub forever for birthdays and special events for years. The steak is to die for and they always seat you very quickly. They are more traditional so for a more modern experience I wouldn't go here... but if you want to feel like a fancy time and eat food that is great you will be satisfied. All meals come with a "salad" bar but it's filled with hunks of cheese and bread and a ton of potato salad and such... also to die for. If you don't want juice with your steak then make sure you request they do not pour it on the plate. I'm all for it but I see people posting that they don't like it. Been coming to this restaurant since I was a kid with my family, but after my experience this past time we won't be coming back. We were a large group and it was a Saturday night. It was very obvious that the waitress was overwhelmed. The issue was half of the tables food came out over ten minutes later and the appetizers came out with the entrees. On top of having to wait while everyone else was eating the food was just bad. My meal was completely cold, the next was undercooked, also the fish on another dish was burnt. The reaction from the manager was the worst part of it all. She came over and was completely rude. Just asked what do you want me to do about it. At this time everyone else had finished their meals and there was no point in trying to get anything recooked. So we just asked to get it taken off the bill. So with that response from us, she immediately said, well we are still charging you for the salad bar. Her approach as a manager was absolutely awful. She took the food away and rushed back with boxes to push us out of the restaurant. The pub was always a place my family loved to go for a special occasion, not anymore. We came the Pub restaurant tonight and had a wonderful experience. There were eight of us of which one person has been coming there since the 1960's. Our texas sized Margaritas were outstanding and our filet's were delicious and came out exactly how we ordered them. Our server, Linda, was great as she took care of our every need. Her warm demeanor made us feel right at home. This was by far our most enjoyable visit to the Pub and we are planning to return again in the near future. read more

Yesterday for the 1st time since COVID my friend & I decided to have dinner at the Pub after a concert! I was excited to show my friend this Classic restaurant because she had never been there! The owners of the Pub should be ashamed of themselves! First of al the prices are so high we found it hard to find something in our budget. I decided on the salad bar(which was always Great in the past) & French onion soup. Well the Caesar salad was mushy & swimming in dressing. I tried the rice salad, bean salad, beet salad, potato salad, macaroni salad, carrot salad all were horrible. The salad bar chef should be fired! I've had better offerings at a Chinese buffet at a much better price. Even the breads at the salad bar were tasteless. I think they were supposed to be corn bread & banana bread. They left a loaf of hard bread on our table which I think was stale. My French onion soup was so salty I couldn't even finish it!! My friend said her burger was good but I noticed she didn't finish it. She did say the French fries were perfect. The Best thing about my meal was the coffee & chardonay! I liked that they place a carafe of fresh coffee at the table. Then to top it off I ordered wings to take home to my husband & they were so hard he could't even chew them! I'm really disappointed in our last trip to The Pub. My family and I have been going there for years and, after this experience, I really don't think I'll ever be going back. We went for my sister's birthday and after ordering our food,we waited over minutes for our drinks and didn't see the waitress again after that. It was extremely hot where we were seated and,after an hour of waiting for our food and the chance to order more drinks, we asked to be moved somewhere else,where it wasn't so hot. The little manager woman refused because she said she "didn't want to take away from the waitress" because, apparently,the waitress wouldn't be able to make the journey to another part of the restaurant. Everyone else who was there was willing to accommodate us, except this woman. We said we wouldn't be able to stay there and have our meal because it was just too uncomfortable. The woman simply said, "That's your choice." I really can't understand why she would rather we either stay and have to be uncomfortable and have a bad experience or leave and be unhappy. My husband and I went to the Pub for dinner on Saturday evening. It had been awhile since we ate there due to the pandemic. The only good thing that we had was the soup. He had the prime rib, which was dry and tough. I ordered the shrimp stuffed with crab meat. It must have been previously frozen, due to the fact that the shrimp was tough and the crab meat was extremely dry. Green beans were absolutely terrible. We decided to take practically the entire meal home and try to salvage it for our Sunday dinner. Sad to say, all of the food was relegated to our trash can and we ended up eating at Burger King. Over the the past 40 years I have spent thousands here celebrating birthdays, graduations, anniversaries and just simple dinners. What used to be a decent and predictable steak house has turned into a money grab with absolutely ZERO customer service This evening four of us went out for dinner and I ordered one of the specials.. a $55 bone in filet. I requested my steak cooked medium and it came out well done. By the time I found our server, the rest of my party was almost finished their meal. She asked if I would like another one. I politely refused and simply asked to have it removed from the bill. A few minutes later, the server returns and informs me there would still be a charge for my salad even though I sent my steak back. At this point, I am extremely offended and spoke with the manager who honestly didn't care one bit and told me because I made one trip to the salad bar I had to pay the salad bar only price. I was offended and shocked at such an arrogant response over a handful of lettuce. I will never patronize this dump ever again. The Library on Route 73 is a much better choice, plus their salad bar is 100X better. I will be posting this review everywhere I can.
