The Public House took over the space formerly occupied by the late, lamented Angel and Ox pub. Very good food and an excellent selection of beers and ales plus some hard to find single malts. Can get busy in the evenings, but for lunch it's a quiet delight! read more

Came here for lunch with my wife,walked in and saw no one, say down, and finally saw the waitress near the cashier sitting there so entertained by her phone, didn't care to get up or look around not even once, I cleared my throat a few times loudly and nope, she didn't even move, I guess whatever she was doing on her phone was so important that she forgot she was at work, so we walked out! No Liquid Smoke Here!!! the pulled pork is actually smoked with pecan and jack daniels whiskey barrels then beer braised. The process takes over 8 hours. The pizzas are handmade thin crust and charred to be crispy NOT BURNT but anyone can ask for any item to be cooked to there specifications. I apologize if anyone has to wait for great homemade food but since I have been here my longest ticket time has been 25 minutes and our usual average time is 10 minutes. Worst bar/pub in Katy. A group of friends and I use to meet here weekly for a few pints and conversation but we will never be coming back. The biggest problem was the service. On multiple occasions we were over charged for drinks that we did not order. This isn't the most uncommon thing to happen at a bar but at Public House they refused to take responsibility. To ensure we weren't crazy and we're trying to be fair, we would keep bottle caps and take tallies. I don't have anything against someone asking me to pay more for a service because it's an open agreement between both parties. I do have an issue with someone stealing. I called ahead more than 24 hours in advance to find out if this venue would be showing a specific football game on a Saturday. We were going to be bringing 8+ people there. I was told they would definitely be showing that game. We arrived to find out this venue doesn't in fact even carry the channel at all. (SECN) We had to rush to a different bar very last minute. The food is good and the bartender seems like a nice guy, BUT they are in a huge ****-fest right now. They apparently changed manager and lost their liquor license. They charge soda PER DRINK @ $2/ea. The suffleboard doesn't work, the dart boards are beaten-up and the scoreboards are unusable. Everything is an excuse with them and they are ripping customers a new one. I don't know why they're even open because they are going to destroy their business before it gets off the floor. I'm going to give this place 4stars just because we like the place bartenders nice people are friendly but if you go there on Sunday at 6 pm you can only get chips and queso and at that the chips are stale and they might not have any. This place isn't BAD, it's just not great. I'm amazed the low average star rating this received compared to some of the other really crappy places around that have more. Certain foods are good, others are basic Sysco food to appease the masses. Their beer selection is decent, and the staff has always been friendly enough. I've had times there as one of the only ones in the joint, and the service was crap because the bartender would wander or go hang in the kitchen, when a little house cleaning around the bar should have been a priority and would have gone a long way. A seriously great place for a drink, and from what I hear it's about to get even better now that they are collaborating with the guys from Burger Monstah being employed to run their kitchen. If you have the chance to get a good, stiff drink or a pint from No Label and other local breweries that's awesome, and they do it well with some of the best bartenders in Houston, but adding in the best burgers in Houston puts this place on another level. If you haven't already tried Burger Monstah you should know you are missing out. It's said every day you haven't had one of their burgers an angel loses their wings... being a big fan I know this is the absolute truth. The atmosphere at The Public House is a good one because you get the complete pub vibe. A game of Golden Tee, darts or pool if you wish, flat screens all over, sounds of the game or the jukebox, a nice outdoor patio, and plenty of parking. Whether you are relaxing inside or out you'll be glad you hit this spot, and be sure to bring your hunger as well as your thirst. read more

I frequented the previous business here (The angel and Ox) but with that, and this business, there's something just uncongenial about this space. I think it's the newness of it, combined with all the TV's and rather loud music of late. I wonder instead of banning smoking when bars might ban putting PDAs on bars. These hideous devices have killed the art of barroom conversation and people's dependence on them within arm's reach at all times, I find frankly disturbing. But that's not specific to TPH. Whereas the Angel and Ox served Imperial (20oz) pints (Guinness is my drink) here only 160z is an option. A shame as 160z is not a congenial measure (for a guy at least). As with a number of Katy businesses there's a feeling like no-one really cares who you are, why you came in, or whether you might venture back. And most of the time, I don't. If I had a wish list here it is to reduce the screens, turn down the music, offer 20oz glasses and engage with the customers a bit more. Certainly better than the awful Baker St nearby. But could be hugely better too. Seems like these brand-new strip centers lack atmosphere which is so important to a place. read more

I scheduled a happy hour for my social group but we will not be back. Slow service, mediocre food. I ordered chicken quesadillas and they were extremely over cooked. We had a great time at The Public House in Katy!! I came in with a few of my friends and it was our first time. The place has a very relaxed environment that we all really enjoyed. Not only do they have a fully stocked bar but also a great selection of beer, both on tap and in bottle. I was pleased to find that they always carry (We were told year round) quite a few different selections from Katy's local brewery No-Label. We started with some of their appetizers and if you haven't had the privilege of trying their Fried Green Beans (one of their most popular items) then you haven't lived! They are amazing! I then had their Public House Burger which they advertise as being the best in Katy and I would have to agree with them. It was delicious All in all we really enjoyed ourselves at The Public House! The service was excellent and all the other employees are very friendly and welcoming. I would recommend it to anyone that is looking to enjoy a relaxing but fun night out. Public House is on the decline. They've changed management so many times over the years and I think they finally have one that will kill it. I live just around the corner and I'm a regular for the convenience. Lately they have been closing earlier and earlier even kicking guest out because the manager is tired and ready to go home. I'm going to make the trip to La Centerra to go to World of Beer or Baker St. because I know they will be open. The bartenders are unskilled and don't know how to make most basic drinks. Any pretty girl willing to work there is hired. A margarita here is glass full of sweet and sour with a shot of tequila. It's gross. my husband and i went to Public House for dinner with a Restaurant.com coupon. We had been before and had to leave without eating because we ordered two different things, Shepard's Pie and Meatloaf. After much excitement about "getting the last one", we were told they were out of both. We left after drinking our one beer we had ordered. It was 8pm, kind of early to run out of food when they have a small menu and served until 10pm that night. Anyway, flash forward to a few days ago. This time, I called to see if they had Shepard's Pie left. They did, three and would save them for me. When we walked in, the bartender/waiter asked if we had called and reminded me he had saved them. I didn't even need all three because my husband ordered something else but I took them, to go, anyway because the guy had been nice enough to save them. I wish I could remember his name but he said he had only been working there 3 weeks but then went on to explain every Texas beer they had and their flavor. We were confused what to get, so he brought over samples (his idea). It helped us pick two. I like the owner, I met him on their soft opening and I hope they keep this guy but he is probably too good to stay in this small bar/restaurant. so, Public House redeemed themselves, we only went back because of the Restaurant.com coupon but now we will go back to see if this great guy still works there, he is the one who we will go back to see. I enjoy the Public House, it's lively but not so loud you can actually visit with your friends. They always have a nice beer on tap selection with some Texas and Katy area beers included. Two stars is really being generous. My wife and I have been here several times. It has been a year or so since our last visit. We had seen an article in a local magazine about a new menu and we were excited about trying it. What they have done is managed to turn sub-par pub grub into truly terrible food. We tried the fried macaroni and cheese, it wasn't terrible, but nothing to write home about. Then we ordered our meals, the Rooster and the Piggy, these sandwiches were not edible, neither were the sides (sweet potato fries and onion straws.) We complained to the waitress, she was sorry but didn't offer to compensate us. We didn't eat even 1/2 of or food. I tipped her a little more than 20% because it wasn't her fault, and I wanted her to understand I wasn't just trying to get something for nothing. There are many places to eat in Katy that are very good, this isn't one of them. It is a great place to drink, but do yourself a favor and eat before you go! read more

I really wanted to like this place. The atmosphere was great when we walked in. We ordered a couple of Old Fashions off if their menu. I figured since it was something on their menu it would be good. I was WRONG! The seemed to have crushed up some cherries and oranges and poured whiskey on top. I could honestly have made better ones in my sleep. Needless to say we quickly switched to beer. We ordered a pizza and some chips and queso. They took over 45 mins to come out. The pizza was TINY and okay. The chips and queso were great and the waitress was nice enough to give us extra chips. Considering the food was mediocre overall, the service was slow and the cocktails were bad, I would not recommend this place to any of my friends. read more
