This local college town bar is very cute! Tons of purple (of course) and some blue for the local high school. Servers are def some local college/town adults. My friends ordered burgers (and one country fried steak) and I also should have ordered a burger. They had long cut pickles and some really good fries. They looked juicy and fresh and I totally envied them. My Mama's Mac and Cheese was very under whelming. Bland. Needed salt and pepper to make it slightly more enjoyable. This place has a really awesome vibe. The dog friendly enclosed "patio" area is really nice. We were driving through stephenville with our dogs and needed somewhere to stop for lunch. The two girls were working the bar and waiting tables AND busing tables. They kicked butt and took good care of us despite being really busy. I ordered a hazy magnolia beer and it was SO FLAT. My husband ordered a blue moon pint and it wound up being almost $9... which is wild to me. I ordered the bbsalad which included 4 smaller wings and a large salad with blue cheese and bacon. It was a decent portion size for $16.50 but still a couple dollars over priced in my opinion. My husband got a sliced brisket sandwich which was super dry. This is a case of missed opportunities, and way too high a price for what's served. We have been coming to the Purple Goat off and on for a couple-three years, but every trip we are less and less impressed. My go-to burger is a bacon cheeseburger. By the time they added the bacon and cheese. and the very high add-on surcharge for onion rings, the meal ended up $5 more than the identical, but better, one we get at another restaurant. That's a 25% difference. One somewhat recent visit they charged me full price for a side of rings, instead of the add-on price, but I still got just the add-on portion. Service has become spotty. We may not see our server for the bulk of the meal, keeping drinks refilled is a matter of luck, and getting the check is sometimes an adventure hoping they got it split right (usually don't). They have a large selection of beers, but again it's oddly expensive for beer in what looks like a converted warehouse. For the most part these are all irritants. But who wants to go to a place for the irritation? The aura has totally worn off. Won't voluntarily go back. read more

This was unbelievably BAD! I ordered a meal similar to my grandchild. Eggs, meat, potatoes, biscuits etc. the food came and he got what he ordered, but I only got eggs and bacon. When I asked, they said they know the menu says all that, but it's their policy not to give everything advertised unless specifically asked for. Well my grandchild didn't have to spell it out for the waitress, but apparently she expected me to do it. First time here. Place is really cool as far as set up. Indoor out door. Best "ambiance" I've seen in Stephenville, which ain't saying much, so kuddos! Lots of draft beer, liquor and frozen drinks. Out door area I could imagine would be really nice in fall or winter as it's covered and has 4 propane fire pits under roof with swing down doors. I love the concept and can see what they are trying todo here. We started with Goat balls, they were ok, they were not cooked properly, still coldish in the middle and not that impressive over all. BBQ sauce on them were different but pleasant, ranch dressing was on point. Our waiter was very uniformed on the menu, prep of food, sauces, choices, drinks prices and drink selections. Nice but basically clueless. Draft beer and cider was almost warm or cool but not cold, so that wasn't great. Inside building was cool not cold. Could be colder but has high ceilings. Salads are over priced and I wouldn't call this a "cob salad" as it lacked many components that cob salads should have. I had the catfish and I was pleasantly surprised that it was nicely done , crispy, hot, fresh, good portion and had a nice corn meal coating. Fries were good with a crispy flour coat. Cajun slaw appeared to be a little old but had decent flavor but bad color. Hush puppies were good but only got 2 small pups. Over all the fried catfish was really solid and I'm picky about fried catfish. We had a nice experience overall. I really like the vibe. I don't know why, but I would be interested to see how they handle a big crowd bc this place is big with many seats and staff seem not all too prepared in general. Could be wrong about that assumption. We came on a Sunday late evening and they seemed a little lackadaisical. Had a great brunch at the Purple Goat today. My Aunt and uncle from Granbury and Aunt from Burnet joined my parents and my little family for a much needed get together. Was nice to see everyone and enjoy their company Inna warm, and toasty place. Most everyone had breakfast items and I heard zero complaints. We came here for my son's birthday. First of all, the place is huge, especially for such a small town. And it's funky in a cowboy town kind of way. I love it. The servers were very friendly, and attentive. We had a fairly big party (8 in all), and there were several drink orders thrown at our guy all at once. He somehow managed to get them all. Next, the food - I got a burger with Sweet Potato Fries. It was a BIG burger! It was also fresh and delicious. Really, everything brought to the table looked very good. I don't think anyone had any leftovers to take home, so that tells me it was all great. Definitely a place worth the drive from Ft. Worth. This place was so good that we came back again the next day!! We were in town for a team roping over the July 4th weekend. This place is so cute! Clean and fun! I should have heeded the 3.5 stars... The Place - Large open areas on the inside with seating for parties of 4-10. Pool table, 30' bar. Lots of TVs showing rodeos and other programs. 98F outside, and the AC was working just fine. There's a large covered patio that would probably be a great place when the temps stay under 90F. Service - Average, at best. Menu - Large selection of burgers with special add-ons like mac/cheese, onion rings, etc. All came with a selection of sides, but if you want something other than fries, it's going to cost you. And that's on top of the high-price of the burgers; I got a burger with the onion rings on top and BBQ sauce and it was about $13. If you want the one with mac/cheese on it, that'll be about $17. For four burgers and a salad and two soft drinks, the tab was near $90 after tip. Food - Four of us had burgers, and my wife had the salad with smoked brisket on top. She enjoyed hers quite a bit. Can't say the same for me; I asked for "pink in the middle" and got "grey in the middle". DRY, DRY, DRY. Crust-on-the-outside-of-a-thin-patty kind of dry. And the BBQ sauce that had been added was probably straight out of the fridge, making the whole thing a bit of a lukewarm mess. I would have complained and asked for another sandwich, but that always makes for an awkward dinner as everyone else feels like they have to wait for you before they eat or have to wait for you to finish later. Only bright spot was the fries. TLDR: No, thank you.
