Montana's proves to be one of the worst food options in Stephenville every time I seem to unknowingly give them another chance. $15 got me a piece of chicken the size of my pinky toe and don't even get me started with the fact that it taste exactly like the chicken tenders from a gas station. It's extremely overpriced for the absolute lowest quality food you can imagine. Every year it's like the food gets cheaper and the prices get more expensive. I would recommend that you just go next door to the McDonalds. This is the only place to make McDonalds seem like a luxurious restaurant. read more

We really enjoyed our visit to Montana's. I can't believe that I have been coming to Stephenville for three years and haven't eaten here yet. Big mistake on my part! The food (burger, fries, corn nuggets-wow!!!!, Coke) were all very good. Plus, everything was reasonably priced which I really appreciated. Our server was very sweet and attentive (just the right amount of attentive). The restaurant reminded me of the old Bennigan's in its decor. The bathrooms were clean and I felt like the restaurant was clean, too. Please don't let the low-ish rating keep you away. If you look more closely, the low scores are from 7-8 years ago. So, Montana's must have gotten a new owner or something. Whatever the case, they have made major changes and it is much, much better than those scores indicate. Give it a shot. Apparently, their management and/or staff do not understand that vinegar (Heinz white or Balsamic) goes well with catfish. Not to mention other items. The staff seems to think that "Balsamic Vinegar" is the same thing as an Italian vinaigrette salad dressing. read more

The house made Honey Mustard and Ranch dressing are both delicious. The best I have personally had. The taco salad as are the chicken tenders are both excellent. You have to have the cheese fries, period! Service was good and I have nothing to complain about or suggest that needs improvement. The atmosphere is your typical fast food / casual bar environment. Fun, family friendly. Since it is right across the street from a college, expect to see a lot of college age traffic. One of our favorite places and we try and stop every time we are in Stephenville. read more

Yesterday (5-16-25) I went with a friend of mine to Montana's. I ordered the corn nuggets for appetizers and they were without a doubt some of the best corn nuggets I've had. I also ordered the Texas Ranch burger and she got the regular hamburger, I believe it's called the Montana burger. Anyway, not only did our food look great but it tasted even better. I could tell the fried jalapeños in my burger were fresh as well as the bacon and the patty itself even under all the toppings on it. The French fries were also of great quality and were hearty and crispy, just the way I like it. Our server was very polite and attentive, and the atmosphere felt familiar in a way, like going to an older relative's house. If I could give Montana's a 10/5 I most certainly would. College town type bar/restaurant housed in a former Pizza Inn. Car club friends came up to Stephenville for the night staging for a return run to Hico and the Texas Steak Cookoff. We checked into a local hotel and headed to Montana for snacks and more importantly dranks! Friends ordered some nachos and other dishes. I didn't eat but can at least comment on the grandma level of butter on the corn. The drink menu isn't online, but I'll stumble through what I remember. Care Bear? Fuzzy Bear? What's the local college mascot? IDK, but we drank alot of bear drinks. One of them was seriously purple; seen in my one pic. Cheap Long Island Ice Teas too! We drank our butts off and the tab was less than $50 with tip for our tab. Not sure I'd drive out of my way to dine here with Hard Eight BBQ down the road but I'd sure come back for happy hour! read more

Wow! What an underrated restaurant. Montana's is such a hidden gem in Stephenville. It has the reputation among the college crowd of being a fun place for appetizers and strong drinks. But it's also a family restaurant where you can get some good grub!! The dinning room is not super decorated, but upon walking in you feel right at home. It has your typical diner vibe going on. The service is great and very friendly. We had no issues with wait times upon arriving or getting our food. The cocktails were wonderful! They packed a punch! I would recommend some of their signature cocktails. But if your pallet is more simple they have beers on tap and a full bar. We had the grizzly drink and oh boy was it a good time. Now the food was the star of our visit. We ordered the corn nuggets and fried pickles to start. The corn nuggets were Golden brown and crispy on the outside but melted in your mouth. They had the consistency of gooey creamy corn bread. Yummmmmmm! My mouth is watering just thinking about it. The fried pickles are a dream, they were nicely coated and golden brown with a punch of sour flavor from the pickle slice. Our main dishes were also very flavorful. Our whole table got silent when our food came, which meant everyone was satisfied. We literally all stuffed our faces. The portions were huge so I was happy my husband and I decided to split the chicken fried steak platter. I am visiting for the holidays and plan to stop by one more time for their happy hour. Montana's has gone to CRAP. Ordered takeout. We got beef fajita bites with cheese fries add jalapeños and a childs chicken wrap. We live 5 miles out of town. When we get home, there's maybe eight beef fajita bites. The LOADED cheese fries, which I hate bacon bits and chives, are cold and soggy. The tortilla on the wrap is old and hard. All of the food was super cold. We didn't have the time to drive all the way back in to town so the clowns could remake it. Montana's won't last much longer with all the new businesses coming to town if they keep producing gross, cold food. Zero stars if it were allowed. PATHETIC. read more

We have been to Montana's numerous times. Never have we had this bad of food quality. I ordered a medium rare Ribeye with shrimp along with loaded baked potato and green beans. The meal showed up with a well done steak and shrimp the size of a quarter. We have never been this disappointed before. I ended up eating my wife's meal of cheddar cheese fries. The manager did comp our meal but, I would rather have paid for a good steak and shrimp. On top of that, we had to wait to be seated for 15 minutes while they had half the seating empty. They were busy moving tables around for larger groups while leaving the rest of the couples to wait. Lost a customer that drives 30 miles to eat there. read more

Their food is decent and the portions are huge. This is not my favorite place to eat because of how cramped and dark it is. The atmosphere is rustic, but not enjoyably so. We ordered the steak bites, which were good and came on a bed of French fries, which were unnecessary. We were full before our meal arrived. I ordered a purple poo to drink, which is scrumptious if you like grape kool-aid. I've ordered this drink on multiple occasions and loved it each time. For my entree I ordered the Caesar wrap. I wouldn't suggest it. It was weirdly warm, since I associate wraps with a cold food. It fell apart and was not easy to eat, especially because they didn't cut it all the way through. They did not put the dressing in the wrap, which made eating this entree awkward. They put a bunch of cheese on top of the dressing, so it did not pour easily onto the wrap. The "Salad" was kind of weird. It was one piece of lettuce with a pile of croutons. Also didn't like that the only 3 side options were cole slaw, green beans, and fries. They don't really match the entree, in my opinion. Would not order this again. Appetizers and drinks are the way to go. Skip the entree. read more

We always order the Fajita Bite chicken appetizer & appetizer catfish as our meal because they come with enough to be a complete meal and they are cooked to perfection!
