We were strolling on Yelp to find a place to grab dinner while staying in Redding for a day. We…read morestumbled on this place. Looked through their menu online and decided to give them a try. Located in the Placer Heights Plaza, next to Starbucks. Same plaza as Holiday Market and CVS Pharmacy. We were seated immediately as they were not busy. The menu was a bit different than online. Our server came to take our order. He didn't introduce himself and seemed like he didn't want to be there. We decided on the fried green tomatoes, fried chicken sandwich and catfish po' boy. When the po' boy came out, we thought it was burnt! We didn't know the catfish will be blackened by default. We thought it will be fried since it is a po' boy. The options can be blackened or fried based on the menu online. We were not given those options by our server. They brought out the food but didnt provide utensils until minutes later. Fried green tomatoes: It was good. Fried perfectly. The dressing that was tossed with the side salad was super salty. Catfish po' boy: Fish was tender but super salty as well. Fried chicken sandwich: Pretty good sandwich. Chicken was huge. The fries was so soggy, not crispy at all. Also very greasy. We were a bit disappointed as we drove out of our way to try this place. Nice ambiance though. I felt I was a bit underdressed lol

I ordered the breakfast burrito and my partner had some pancakes. The burrito was decently sized tasted fresh and was nice and filling, no complaints there. The pancakes were really good and fluffy. Staff was friendly whipped up some spicy salsa for me since my breakfast burrito needed a little kick and was very attentive. There's a good amount of seating for the size of the place and they had a small bar area which I thought was a nice touch. Solid little spot of people to stop by and grab a bite to eat.

The service wasn't great the waiter spilt water all over me and then I was holding my menu in my lap while I was talking to another's family member so I wasn't paying attention and he ripped the menu out of my hands without saying anything . We were also in a bigger group and the server decided to put our orders in groups rather than all at once so none of us were eating at the same time. The food is homemade even the pasta so it was good food.

I wrote a review for Beni's about a year ago, and after coming back for lunch with my family, I…read morefigured it was time for an update. First, the important stuff: we shared the seafood ravioli and the seafood risotto. The ravioli was delicious, but that risotto... man. The seafood risotto is still my wife's and my favorite thing on the menu. Every time we come back, we end up talking ourselves into getting it again, and every time we're glad we did. But what really stood out to me this time is how much Beni's has grown. They've expanded into a little back room, and I really like what they've done with it. It has this cozy, almost coffee-shop kind of feel that makes the restaurant feel bigger without losing that comfortable, personal atmosphere. There's also now patio seating out front, with a couple of little toys for the kids. Those little touches make a difference when you're eating there with your family. And I have to give a shout-out to something I never thought I'd be excited to write about in a restaurant review: The cubed ice is gone. They've upgraded to the good restaurant ice - you know exactly what I mean. The kind everybody actually wants. They're continuing to make improvements, too. There's a soda machine coming soon and more interior upgrades on the way. You can really see Beni and Misty's vision starting to take shape, and it's pretty cool to watch. I also got a little peek inside the kitchen this time, and honestly, I don't know how Beni does what he does in that space. The kitchen is small. Really small. And yet somehow he's putting out food like the seafood risotto and ravioli that comes out of there. Watching him work with that limited space made me appreciate the food even more. There's something almost magical about seeing how much he manages to accomplish with what he has. It reminded me that great food isn't always coming out of some massive restaurant kitchen with a dozen people running around. Sometimes it's just a talented person making it happen. A year ago, I called Beni a culinary rockstar. I still stand by that. The difference now is that you can actually see the dream growing around him. Beni and Misty are slowly turning this place into what they've envisioned, and it's been pretty cool to watch that happen. The food is great, the atmosphere keeps getting better, and there's a genuine feeling that they're building something they're proud of. We'll definitely be back. And yes... we'll be ordering the risotto again.
