By far the best restaurant I've been at sense moving to Redding. Thank you for the amazing meal.

We were strolling on Yelp to find a place to grab dinner while staying in Redding for a day. We stumbled on this place. Looked through their menu online and decided to give them a try. Located in the Placer Heights Plaza, next to Starbucks. Same plaza as Holiday Market and CVS Pharmacy. We were seated immediately as they were not busy. The menu was a bit different than online. Our server came to take our order. He didn't introduce himself and seemed like he didn't want to be there. We decided on the fried green tomatoes, fried chicken sandwich and catfish po' boy. When the po' boy came out, we thought it was burnt! We didn't know the catfish will be blackened by default. We thought it will be fried since it is a po' boy. The options can be blackened or fried based on the menu online. We were not given those options by our server. They brought out the food but didnt provide utensils until minutes later. Fried green tomatoes: It was good. Fried perfectly. The dressing that was tossed with the side salad was super salty. Catfish po' boy: Fish was tender but super salty as well. Fried chicken sandwich: Pretty good sandwich. Chicken was huge. The fries was so soggy, not crispy at all. Also very greasy. We were a bit disappointed as we drove out of our way to try this place. Nice ambiance though. I felt I was a bit underdressed lol read more

My taste buds were so happy to find a restaurant especially in Redding with Southern, Cajun flavors! We were driving up to Klamath so decided to swing by since I've bookmarked this place for awhile ! Everything we order from the fried green tomato, friend chicken , shrimp and grits and msn that catfish was amazing comfy good! We were headed to the national park near by for some backpacking and wanted to fill up on some hearty food we wouldn't have in a while. I ordered the breakfast burrito and my partner had some pancakes. The burrito was decently sized tasted fresh and was nice and filling, no complaints there. The pancakes were really good and fluffy. Staff was friendly whipped up some spicy salsa for me since my breakfast burrito needed a little kick and was very attentive. There's a good amount of seating for the size of the place and they had a small bar area which I thought was a nice touch. Solid little spot of people to stop by and grab a bite to eat. read more

Had lunch at about 12:15pm on a Thursday wasn't too busy until closer to one. Food came out fairly quickly. Very clean open seating area. Staff was attentive and friendly. Our first visit to Bantam was quite exciting. Parking was fairly easy and they had a smoker in front of the restaurant. The menu was creative with lots of flavorful options. The interior is rustic which you would expect from a bbq joint but plenty of tables inside Our first trip resulted in a fantastic Tri Tip French dip that was so juicy I didn't need to use the Au Jus and the toasted bun brought it home! The Carolina Cuban had pork shoulder that was very dry making the sandwich not so good. With beer and wine and that French dip...we came back. Our second and third trips were disappointing as the food was generally overcooked and uneventful. Service is generally slow as they keep their wait staff thin. With two bad experiences in a row, we just can't risk going back with so many good options in town. read more

Came here with my wife and daughter for dinner. Owner and staff were super friendly and welcoming. We have a daughter with special needs and she can get loud. Well, that wasn't a problem for the staff. Next, the food was incredible. We had the smoked brisket nachos to start. I've never had good BBQ in California, but this brisket was up there with some of the best meat I've had in Texas! Every bite was amazing. We also had a burger and fries. Back here again. They added a fried green tomato BLT! My wife always ordered a special order very much like this, sans the bacon. She loves this addition. So I took her bacon for my burger. It's really nice to have a good old fat burger for a change from the smash burger craze. They do make smash burgers here too. Always excellent food, service and cocktails. I pass on the beers tonight...much to my delight. We dine at a happy hour time/ old folks. Less crowds, preferred seating and again, always excellent service. read more

The Bantam Kitchen and Cooler is one of the best restaurants in all of Northern California--and without a doubt, in the top two here in Redding, California. It's located right across the street from a good, old-school American veteran bar, The Hen House--a place I'm quite fond of. There's a young lady behind the bar who is also the manager on duty when the owner is not present, Kari--and she's excellent. The chef, Ian, cooks with love, magic, heart, and soul in every single dish he prepares. You can taste the care. Tonight, while enjoying some red wine, I met patrons who came from Shingletown, Red Bluff, and all kinds of places just to eat here. That says something. There was an amazing bartender. I love seeing staff that's interacting with guest. Human - human interaction is limited now days. She was very down to earth and nice! Let's get to the food. I'm from South Carolina. I've traveled throughout all of the southeast and have tried hundreds of different shrimp and grits and I know what's a good southern shrimp and grits dish. This restaurants take on shrimp and grits is definitely top two on the west coast. It's very rich in flavor, not extremely greasy pepper based, instead of salt which is nice to not overwhelm. It has a unique flavor. I give it a 9.8/10. I don't give many near perfect reviews lol. You guys exceeded my expectation in the most positive way. Most certainly would come back. Just passing through Redding, checked yelp to see where we should eat and this place had the best reviews, so we decided to try it. We are so glad we did! Tony was one of the nicest servers we have ever had anywhere and the food was DELICIOUS! My partner rarely finishes his food and he ate every single bite of that shrimp po'boy! On top of the food being very good, the service was so friendly, Tony was nice and talked to us as if we have known each other for years. The fried chicken sandwich is out of this world. They use chicken thigh so it is juicy. They made their own spicy sauce which gives it such a multitude of flavor, especially with the coleslaw and brioche bun. The food was amazing, I got the standard chicken sandwich, requested to modify a couple things on the chicken sandwich and they were super nice about me making minor changes. The seasoned fried and the chicken was cooked perfectly with the right amount of crisp . I read some pretty strong reviews about this place so I was really interested in trying it out. I'm glad I did. The food was very good. The chicken sandwich is massive, and the taste matches. I love the pickles and cole slaw along with their house sauce. A great taste combo. The Mac n cheese is good too. The green onions are a nice accent and the cheese sauce is legit. I didn't snap a pic of the fried green tomatoes but they have a great spice and were delicious. The restaurant doesn't have much of an ambiance to it yet, feels a little empty. I came here specifically to try the jambalaya, since it's not something you often find on menus in this area. The photo looked good, but what I was served was basically soup with rice, small cubes of ham, and a bit of sausage. I even paid extra for shrimp. This was not jambalaya in any recognizable form. When I asked, the waitress admitted the kitchen staff had changed -- but that doesn't excuse serving a dish that doesn't match the menu or the price point. If you're going to offer jambalaya, make sure it's done right. For what I paid, the quality was unacceptable. read more

My friends and I were in Redding after hiking Mt. Shasta, and we saw that this restaurant was one of the more well-reviewed ones around the area. As we all were in the mood for some good brunch food, we decided to check this place out. The inside is pretty spacious, and we were seated quickly at a table. The decor was on the rustic side, although it was nice and had a modern ambience to it. For our food, we decided to get Pork Chop & Waffles as well as the Bantam Breakfast. The Bantam Breakfast comes with a fried pork chop, biscuits and gravy, collard greens, as well as two eggs. Both dishes were excellent, with crispy meat that had a lot of flavor to it. If you're looking for some good American brunch food, this place will definitely deliver. The portions are sizable as well for an affordable price, so it's good for sharing. If you're ever in Redding, this is a good restaurant to definitely check out. Just be aware that for their Southern Brunch on Sundays, they close pretty early around 2 pm. read more
