Another night in Redding! Wanting fast, simple food tonight, and wanting chicken, we drove to this place fairly close to the hotel. I didn't go inside, as we got the food to-go. I wasn't hungry so I had the kid's size chicken tenders 2 pieces and fries. My husband had Mimi's Southern BBQ sandwich on a bun, macaroni and cheese, plus half of my fries. That sandwich was huge. Three large chicken tenders, BBQ sauce, plus cheese, bacon, slaw, onion straws and looked to be enough for two people. He enjoyed it, and ate about 2/3rds of it. Only comment from him was something about going on a diet when his work training was over! The chicken tenders were good, flavorful, and big. The fries, supposedly a kid's portion, was very generous. One of my favorite chicken places to ever exist! I moved out of Redding a while ago but anytime I go home I have to come here. I am pretty boring with my order and always just get chicken tenders and fries but the breading on both the chicken and fries is just too good. The chicken is always extremely juicy and cooked to perfection and I love how thin and crunchy the fries are. They have a lot of different sauces to choose from and I love having so many different ones to dip while eating. My go-to's are buffalo, ranch, and the spicy BBQ. Spent $40 on a salad, wings and cherry pie. The salad was nothing but lettuce. Seriously think they forgot the chicken. Order was to go so didn't noticed till we got home. Wings were so dry and over cooked. But I will say the cherry pie was good. read more

I got the buffalo chicken fries and was quite impressed by the crispness of the fries. You can tell that they lightly coat the fries in something to make it crispier. The chicken was also perfectly cooked, with the sauce not being overpowering. Loved that the bbq sauce wasn't too sweet, but the habanero could be a bit spicier. All in all, it was delicious. The chicken shack portions are HUGE! If you want a side then you may want to reconsider...one of the sandwiches and a side could easily be enough for 2 people. The tenders are HUGE as well. It was very good chicken and had a nice breading- not super thick. Brussels sprouts were crispy and yummy. My daughter loved the homemade barbecue sauce. I took the rest of my chicken with me and ate it for breakfast since our hotel didn't have any. My daughter took her remaining tender and ate it for lunch on a wrap. Fried pickles were the only thing that weren't a hit- they were too salty...maybe it was the batch of pickles ‍if they weren't as salty they would have been good. They do have outdoor seating as well, but it was a bit hot for us for that. The menu is decent, they have sandwiches, loaded fries, tenders, salads and family meals. We tried a few options and everything looked beautiful, the salad was good (sauces and dressing were good), and the fries were good, but we felt the chicken definitely needed some more spice. Good thing Chicken Shack is not close to me, otherwise I think I would be here too often. They take chicken and waffles to whole other level by sandwiching your buttermilk fried chicken tenders between the waffle. I got the Mother Clucker not only for its name but because if chicken and waffles and biscuits and gravy had a baby topped with an egg blanket and some bacon strips, it would be the Mother Clucker. It was so delicious that I almost didn't want to share even with the offer of some Mimi's Southern BBQ which is good but not as epic as that Mother Clucker. When I found this restarurant, I could not wait to try it. We had been on the road all morning and finally it was our lunch stop. There is indoor dining and two major areas for outdoor dining. Just in front of the "front doors" is the shaded outdoor dining. Or around the corner under the sun were two other tables. I ordered a Mimi's southern BBQ. The first thing I must note, is that your food is served on corrugated cardboard, this is to prevent the waffle from getting soggy. It also causes sauce and crumbs to get trapped on the valleys, which could be a bummer. I found teh BBQ sauce to be sweeter and only a little tangyness. The flavors were great, and eating the BBQ chicken with fried pickles and garlic fries was delicous. I also ate some of the Mother Clucker, which is like chicken, biscutts and gravy. This sandwich suffered the most gravy loss due to the corrugated slats, but just as tastyt as the BBQ. Next time I hope to try the "O.G. or Buffalo Blue with loaded Buffalo or Disco fries!!!! read more

Have eaten here several times since moving to Redding last summer. Sort of a guilty pleasure. The chicken strips are my go to even though every time I say I am getting a chicken sandwich "next time". Absolutely horrible! Three times in a row we were delivered uncooked food soaked in grease. You can actually see the pink juices running out of the chicken yet they won't stand behind their food and neither will Grubhub! Uncooked chicken is a food safety issue not a personal preference issue. We were asked to give them another chance after our last order arrived undercooked and bleeding so we did and now they won't stand behind their food. Another $20 wasted. There are plenty of better and safe options for chicken and until they fix their quality and safety issues we won't be back. For the record their fried pickles are in sandwich slice shape. I prefer fried spears, but the balance in these was really good. Eat them fast though. Not as good cold. The salad was epic. Food is 4-5 stars, but the person who took the order was not so hot. The wife was browsing Yelp for something to eat while on our mini vacation and came across the Chicken Shack because they offer keto tenders. Interesting to say the least so I called and asked about them. Apparently they have a Parmesan crust and some other ingredients. Either way, I assumed it was keto enough and placed the order. After picking up the food, and being made aware that we had actually ordered tenders & fries, I noticed they had pork rinds. I asked at the counter if getting pork rinds instead of fries was even an option and they said yes. The wife was the one looking at the menu and should have told me about the pork rinds, if I'm calling you to ask you about the keto tenders and the ingredients, then I'm probably interested in keto right? Too bad two and two didn't add together for the person taking the order and we weren't given the option of substituting to pork rinds instead of fries. Which obviously we would have done. Either way, the fries were average, nothing great but nothing bad. Like skinny in-n-out fries. We just ended up tossing them. We also got a grilled chicken salad that was very good. It was nice and fresh We asked for ranch for all of the dressings including the salad but instead were given the agave mustard. Again, sugary substitute from what was ordered. It also didn't show on the ticket as substituting ranch so I'll blame this one on the person taking orders also. Then they also placed the ranch dressings inside of the box of tenders. What do you get when you have hot, deep fried chicken tenders in a closed box and toss in cups of ranch? Hot ranch! Yes! Who would have thunk it? I would also recommend opening boxes as soon as you get your order as their boxes are not vented. That means your once crispy tenders turn soggy by the time you get home since there's no vents to release steam. So all in all, the food was good, but the kitchen and front counter not so smart. Not sure if it's an issue with training or just lack of care, but I would still recommend this place based on the food alone. Portions were huge also if you're into that fat keto thing where people say calories don't matter and over eat protein. If you order smart and make sure that you take the carelessness out of the equation, I'm sure you'll have a better time. read more

You can't blame Covid forever - I didn't write this review a year ago because I wanted to give the benefit of the doubt due to Covid for the quality being so inferior to what it used to be. Really bummed - this place used to be so good in every way and I used to come all the time. I have since moved and come and get lunch when I am in town and every time I have come back it just gets worse and worse. The best part about chicken shack used to be the fresh chicken, great sauce and the absolute best fries anywhere. Now the chicken seems largely unchanged except for its more expensive, but the sauces are not the same quality and the fries are terrible they taste frozen. I used to come just for the fries and now they have switched to the same thing as from the hearth. Such a bummer. read more

They have a really nice set up there. It does get hot outside, but they have a mist system to help with the heat. Food was good. I personally enjoyed eating the mother clucker.
