Very good food with perfect dinner portions! The Argentinean steak was juicy and perfectly cooked to order. It came with a delightful little fresh salad. The lamb wasn't what I expected as it had been pre-sliced but it was very flavorful and again perfectly cooked to order. Mom's seafood pot was the weakest of the three. It was spicy and came piping hot but the glass noodles were overhooked and mostly broken up. Overall, food came quickly, service was friendly, and we didn't have to wait too long on this weekend evening (as it was already past 8 PM). I died and went to heaven (aka The Raven Bistro) last night! Seriously. I was served an appetizer that transported me halfway there. Shrimp and scallops were seared and served with braised lentils with double smoked bacon, asparagus & creme fraiche!! My taste buds went crazy. Then, I had an entree called The Three Pharaohs, that sent me all the way through the pearly gates. Oh my!!! It consisted of grilled lamb, beef & chicken on cous cous, harissa yogurt, cilantro parsley salsa & grilled flat bread. Possibly the best morsels of food I have ever put in my mouth! My Fiancé agreed wholeheartedly! The ambiance is cool and fun. We ate at the bar which had a great mirror with a terrific display of wine and liquor bottles to look at. Our server was delightful and lovely. Unfortunately I cannot recall our wines - there was a limited wine by the glass selection and we had a Pinot and Sauvignon Blanc which were very nice. This place closes at 10 and we came up to the door at 9:15. Other people were just sitting down, but they wouldn't let us in. We were dressed nicely, so it couldn't have been that. I've worked in the restaurant industry for 8 years and have never seen this. You seat people until you close. That's the rule. It wasn't even after Canadian Thanksgiving yet. They told us to go to a chain restaurant, and gave me attitude when I said I am a food blogger and don't like to eat at chains. When I return to Jasper, I won't likely be returning. Why waste my money and time on a place that gives poor customer service? My money, time blog writing, and taste buds can be better suited and spent elsewhere. Edit: I am editing this in order to respond to the owner's response below. You stated I must have the wrong restaurant even though you already privately messaged me 2 days ago and tried to acccuse me of this already, in which case I told you that that was impossible as I saved each restaurant in my phone after I was turned away. I have only left three poor reviews for restaurants in Jasper and that is because all three of you did the same exact thing. You say you have nothing but friendly staff, but look at your response. You are the owner of this restaurant and you are saying quite rude things to me - a possible potential customer. I did not have a broken watch and I also was nothing but nice when I was at the restaurant. Your response has solidified that I will not be trying out the Raven Bistro when I return and I hope others see your response and decide the same thing. Tidbit for others: Patricia Street Deli is one of the best restruants in the Canadian Rockies and has the best staff. Jasper Brewing Company also has great comfort food and a great staff. read more

Given the Yelp reviews, I was pretty excited to try this place out. And arriving, it certainly looks the part. Unfortunately, the food was more miss than hit. The calamari appetizer was overcooked and the seasoning wasn't that great, but I still had high hopes for the pork tenderloin. It arrived and my heart sank. Unfortunately, though, it wasn't the only thing that sank. The tenderloin did too -- right to the bottom of my stomach. Maybe I ordered poorly (it seemed people around me were enjoying their steaks!) and I'm not sure there are lots of great options in Jasper -- but if I were back there again, I'd try somewhere else. read more

Food is top notch, so top we had to come twice for dinner. Food is creative and super tasty. But, great food alone doesn't make a great restaurant. A few of the intangibles: Top notch staff. Staff have brains and know how to use them to help you have a great meal. For example, when we sat down, our server suggested that the Bison Short Ribs were down to two orders - did we want to reserve one? I was so glad I did, the dish was fabulous. The meals were paced appropriately (we're slow diners) and presented with care. The staff was clearly proud of the food the brought us and deserved to be so. Staff had opinions on the drinks and wine - even telling us which liquor store we could go to so we could purchase the local craft gin that was used in their martinis. Final Tip - GET RESERVATIONS to make sure you can get in. We were there in July and it was busy tourist season. We made them same day, so no problem in spontaneous planning. But, we saw they filled up quickly and it's not a big space - about 40 seats. Last minute chance - sit at the bar seats, they're first come, first served. read more

Moroccan strudel was very tasty and satisfying. It's a large strudel but it was light; it left me very satisfied, not feeling heavy. The chocolate pecan tart with coffee-caramel and (I think) raspberry sauce was also excellent. With salad, the meal came to $52 before tip. Pricey, but worth it. read more

I don't write reviews that often, in fact it's rare. So, The Raven in Jasper, Alberta, Canada, WOW. Went in because of happy hour had lunch and were incredibly surprised to one of the best meals we've had in a long time. I had the schnitzel that was pork loin breaded with sesame seeds, lemon zest, and ground puffed rice deep fried with a rhubarb date chutney accompanied with the soup of the day which was spiced ginger carrot soup. The schnitzel was huge, the breading not to heavy or light a bit of lemon juice and salt. Not dry or too moist .Perfect! The soup was spiced just right for a cool afternoon. Again not too or too little spice. Perfect! The chutney which I usually don't eat was sweet but not overly rich. Great as a dessert on it's own. The service was excellent. Our server,Matt, was attentive informative and friendly. I'm satisfyingly full and happy. Go Go Go. You won't be disappointed in the least. My only regret is that I'm not in town longer. read more

Wandering where to have dinner in Jasper, read enough guide book and finally decided to try Raven Bistro. Started with the aspargus soup which taste a little bit of curry, it may have cumin in it, tasty. The venison/bison sausage was awesome, not dry like Jasper brewing company, tasty and tender, the 3 mustard combo was delicious. The filet mignon was ok, had better but not bad. The lamb was really good, cook perfectly, if the quality of the lamb gets better, this would be a very high quality dish. It's not gamy, it's just not as silky given it's done quite perfectly medium rare. It's a good little gem in a beautiful small town of Jasper. read more

Almost every bite was delectable. We started with the Roasted Grape, Walnut & Stilton Croustini and the Vegan Chorizo Spring Rolls. The Croustini showed up and "oooh, pizza!" is how it looked - in a good way. What a wonderful combinations in tastes. The melted stilton brought it all together. The spring rolls were also good. Medium spice and very chorizo-like - especially for tofu. My main was the Grilled Moroccan Trio. I absolutely loved this. Three interestingly cooked meats: beef, chicken and lamb sitting on couscous balls and kalmata olives. Every bite was full of interesting tastes. Each meat had a unique sauce, and were marinated differently. The lamb was something like a sausage patty, and the other two were small cuts. Although the tastes were different, they blended like a symphony. My wife had the Pomegranate Braised Lamb Shank with the mashed potatoes with truffle oil. The lamb arrives sitting on a bed of hummus polenta, so maybe the potatoes weren't necessary. The lamb shank was great. Fall off the bone tender and the flavour was great. The polenta was fabulous and complimented the lamb. It's early season so we had the dining room room to ourselves for a while, but the room started filling up as we drained the tasty Raven house wine bottle. Service was attentive and friendly. So glad we chose here for our first Jasper dinner. read more

With the reviews on The Ravens Bistro, and the pictures, we decided to give it a try. Truthfully, the food was really just over priced for what it was. A lovely friendly spot, amazing staff, fabulous food, the only unfortunate thing is the patio is very very small and cramped, room for only two tables, plus it doesn't really matter cause you don't have much of a view except a very busy road in front of you. But more importantly the food was great and the waiters and waitresses were amazing. I feel very sorry for this restaurant, I didn't realize that frequently Jasper loses power, and the back up generators only will help emergency electricity like hospitals and police stations... So when the power went out halfway through our lunch yesterday we were very lucky that our meals were already cooked but many other people in the busy restaurant had to be sent away because their meals for only half cooked and thus ruined. Plus we witnessed about three other families coming up to ask for a table and they were also sent away to competitors who had power because we had no power for a long time. How does the owner run a business? I would be very frustrated if I were them.....I had the delicious Buddha bowl and my kids had burgers and mac & cheese, they were amazing. At the end of the meal we got a cute little handwritten bill because of course the cash register was not working, it was lucky that I happened to have enough cash on me...... another reason I feel very sorry for the staff is because there's an ice cream place right next-door that has no seating... So the ignorance slobs who buy their ice cream and really don't care about parameters or boundaries just come and help them selves and sit all over the patio chairs which clearly belong to Raven, they're covered in a fence. And then they get all pissed off when they are politely asked to leave unless they start to order from the Raven menu. We witnessed this happen a couple of times, so frustrating.....I feel so bad for the ravens staff. Anyway they were wonderful and I highly recommend this restaurant. read more

This is my favorite place to eat in the Canadian Rockies. The ambience is casual but comfortable. The food is fusion/eclectic but very healthy and wholesome. Don't expect usual grease joint favorites! Every dish is unique and carefully thought out. From the presentation to the aromas to the crunch etc , attention was paid to details. Our group was promptly seated, attended to and served. Our group tried the spicy lamb burger, Buddha bowl, falafel naanwich and the sea food noodle stew. Each one was a hit! I have looked at the place for months and finally I made it and it was worth the wait. My friend had the halibut which was cooked perfectly and I just had a series of yummy appetizers. I liked everything about this restaurant- I'm a fan of Ravens so I even loved the decor. We shared a red wine, not cheap but reasonably priced and delicious- Henry of Pelham Baco Noir. My husband had the "3 pharaohs" combo of chicken, lamb, and beef: each with a unique sauce, served with pita and couscous. He loved it and doesn't say that very often. I inhaled the seafood dish. Scallops,shrimp, mussels, salmon and white fish in a wonderfully seasoned spicy broth with zucchini, red peppers and noodles. The taste and aroma were fabulous. This is a delightful place! It's small, and I was told they don't take reservations after 6:30, but the people behind the bar are charming, making the wait for a table very pleasant. The menu is innovative, the quality high, and the flavors.... wonderful! I had the Agean salmon, which had the potential to be weird, but it was excellent. The other meals of my group were also heartily appreciated. I passed on the pie, a strawberry rhubarb gem with ice cream and whipped cream, but with great reluctance. I had the roast beef sandwich which came with the soup of the day, beef barley soup. My god the soup was AMAZING. The sandwich was an open face sandwich, I had to use a knife and fork because its so big and messy. The restaurant is very cute and cozy, only problem I had was with the service. The Raven Bistro wasn't originally on my radar when I sought something tasty for dinner in Jasper. As so many visitors to Jasper do, I was strolling around the streets and looking at the menus posted on the doors and windows of each restaurant. The Raven was one of the last places that I stumbled upon but I'm so very glad I did. While other establishments had more clearly marketed themselves as vegetarian-friendly, The Raven has a robust and unique item with many vegetarian items alongside creative dishes for omnivores as well. The entire menu at restaurant featured unique takes on familiar ingredients and it was incredibly difficult to choose just what I wanted to order. We ended up starting with the phyllo wrapped asparagus which was delicious. Despite the small appetizer size, the dish was fantastic, featuring savoury potatoes and peas wrapped in flaky phyllo. A light and delicious mint cilantro yogurt accompanied the asparagus which really completed the dish. It took only a few quick bites to polish off the appetizer but it was a tasty way to start the meal. For the main course I opted for the curried vegetable strudel. The strudel was filled with lightly curried peas, carrots, potatoes, and other veggies and was accompanied by three sauces including a tomato chutney. The dish was emblematic of the wider menu, offering a homestyle feel with modern, unique twists on local and familiar ingredients. The drinks were also innovative and delicious as I opted for a refreshing drink featuring ginger, lychee liqueur and passion fruit. The restaurant was small and dimly lit, providing a nice, intimate environment even if it was a tiny bit crowded when navigating your way to your table. The place is stylish but comfortable and perfectly goes with the bistro-inspired take on homestyle food. The tasty food and comfortable setting made me thrilled that the Raven Bistro was chosen after lots of menu-gazing. The vegetarian menu at the Raven was what drew me to the restaurant but their unique flavours and innovative dishes makes it a wonderful destination in the always lovely Jasper. read more

OK - FIrst off: the name of this place is The Raven Bistro. Not to nitpick, but let's get it right, 'K? OMG! What a fabulous experience we had here just last month. My husband and three other family members had taken a trip to Jasper, and had the incredible pleasure of eating here two nights in a row! The first night, it was so crowded that the 5 of us sat at the bar. You might think that would be awkward, but the bartender was SO friendly and helpful that he made conversation happen. A total professional, this guy took our orders, served us promptly, managed all the barkeeping responsibilities for the place, and took us up right through dessert with grace and charm! The food: SUPERB!!! We shared a Samosa Asparagus roll (delicious!), and I had the Coconut Keffir Lime Seafood Pot first night; hubs had the Pan Seared Fresh Prince Rupert Halibut - both to die for! We splurged and shared a bread pudding for dessert. Waddled out of there completely satisfied. Second night in town (and sadly, our last!) dinner choice was a no-brainer: back to The Raven Bistro! Once again, hubs & I sat at the bar (the rest of our party opted for pizza in town, which they said was mediocre at best). This time I had Pan Seared Shrimp & Scallop, which was served in a rich lentil sauce with smoked bacon, plus the gingery Burma salad; hubs had the same soup I'd enjoyed the night before. FABULOUS fare! The bartender talked us into trying some of "gramma's homemade apple cobbler" for dessert. OWIE good. We were just so completely satisfied and wowed by the food here, but the best was yet to come! The Austrian-trained owner/chef, John Riedler, had come over to see how things were going at the bar. We struck up a conversation just as his business partner came in with a bottle of Dom Perignon to celebrate their recent #1, 5-star rating in TripAdvisor.com. Perfect timing! It was after quittin' time, but John was in no hurry - even after cranking out dozens of 5-star dinners that night. We were just so impressed with his infectious enthusiasm, knowledge of restaurants and foods, and candidness in sharing anecdotes and the story about how he came to own The Raven Bistro. It's dining experiences like this that truly leave a lasting impression. At no time did we feel rushed to get out, or feel any sense of stress on the part of the people working there. It was like one, big happy family - everyone totally committed to the highest quality food experience for the likes of us weary and sensory-overloaded customers. I will definitely be back in Jasper, and will be dining at The Raven Bistro the minute I hit town! read more
