After closing for a hot minute close to two years ago, it was revitalized with new ownership which made some significant updates to the interior while preserving the old school vibe. The neon signs, LCD TVs perched high above the bar, the lively patio area, and even the pool table really add to the overall experience. I tend to find myself at the bar mostly, slamming back a few of what they do best: affordable libations. My recent string of $5 well tequila drinks were appreciated, along with a series of shots form other ddddd The friendly bartenders are a plus, along with the occasional food vendors that make their appearance in pop-up form or the randoms selling overpriced tamales. There are some nights where it's relaxing jazz with a martini, or a weekend evening full of crowded college-aged kids with music so loud that I can't hear what I'm saying. Bathrooms are always a flight risk during times of desperation and the prices have remained steady despite hikes across the rest of Westheimer. The parking situation is limited to a few spots out front, which are so tight that backing in is a gamble and going front in might result in an angle. it's a tight squeeze for larger cars, but these are coveted spots for the bar hopping kind (#1). Catbirds is a nice place to start and potentially a solid place to end, but here's hoping that the changes from new ownership will take this place to new heights. My old fashioned felt "club style" i.e. overly sweet, but this isn't a spot I'm visiting for the flavor of the drinks, it's a spot to see a show, and in that it does exactly what it's supposed to do! Know that you'll battle the typical downtown considerations: free parking can be difficult to find. Parallel street parking becomes free after a certain hour, but it's still difficult to find.

They do have an outdoor area with what looks like washers set up but I haven't spent a whole lot of time in the outdoor area because there is free darts and pool inside. That's right; Free. 3. I felt completely comfortable showing up in all of my leathers with my "biker buddies." No funny stares. No sideways glances. We were the only ones so dressed (I've seen everything from ties to t-shirts here), but it didn't seem to matter. As long as we were friendly and respectful to the ladies behind the bar, we were treated like family. Speaking of which, the ladies behind the bars were awesome; quick with the beers and friendly. So if you aren't afraid of a little dinginess, and enjoy a place where you don't have to constantly think, "Do I look cool enough right now?" or "I hope my hair gel keeps me looking well coiffed this fine evening" then this place is for you. When I say wait, I mean waiting 5-10 minutes for a freakin elevator. I think these are the only elevators in the parking garage. So on busy nights and on weekends this can definitely get backed up. When we finally made it downstairs, this place was a packed house. The music was blaring and people were dressed to the nines. I guess I didn't get the memo that it was "Dressed to Impress" night. As soon as you step in, this place is chaotic and pretty unorganized. Don't get me wrong this place gets a solid 8 on the luxury scale, but the atmosphere and lack of bar staff definitely was not worth it. This place was definitely short staff on their opening night, shouldn't they know that they will need a full staff to prepare for battle of the oncoming bar hoppers and club goers. Duh! The bar staff they did have were as slow as molasses. So slow that we didn't even get one single drop of liquor after 15 minutes or so. The inside is dark with red light accents just barely illuminating a long bar, pool tables, and a fairly large stage for presumably, live music or a DJ, enough to keep the mood somewhat mysterious and interestingly, a bit satanic. Maybe it was also the large barely-dressed women painted in the walls or the red pentagram in the corner of the room. The bartender was very attentive and even offered one of their more "top shelf" liquors for our mixed drinks, possibly seeing that we were dressed fairly nicely having just come from a dinner. A beer, a couple of tall Jim Beam whiskey diets and two pickle shots because, why not, brought us to $39. Overall, a great find. I'm always on the hunt for a new dive and this did not disappoint.

Amazing people watching and a vibe of acceptance and appreciation of the bizarre. Highly recommend the burlesque shows!
