There once was a girl who loved bean and cheese burritos, and vegetarian burritos. She was a vegetarian, and she loved vegetarian Mexican food above all else. She ate thousands of them, countless meals made of a warm, crispy flour tortilla enveloping spicy rice, creamy beans, cool guacamole and oily cheese. Alas, that girl was told sternly by many medical professionals that she could no longer eat gluten, really needed to avoid the dairy, and had to start eating the dreaded meat. And so, she grew up, and rather than leave the beloved Mexican cuisine (the greatest in the world, according to her) behind, she began to discover the world of street tacos. Pillowy soft corn tortillas, piled high with chopped meat, a smattering of raw onions, and dusting of cilantro. Pickled carrots and radishes, and roasted peppers and onions, frequently accompanied these little circles of delight. Throughout California and the west coast, into the mountains of Nevada, and all across the Midwest, she consumed taco after taco. Occasionally a night of strong libations would overtake her doctor's order, and a bean and cheese or vegetarian burrito would be consumed, always with disastrous consequences. But she would return to her street tacos, and gleefully enjoy the myriad of meat and salsa combinations, atop those trademark two tortillas. It was not until she arrived in Oklahoma that she had THE street tacos. The street tacos of her life. The street tacos of her dreams. She ventured into The REAL Taco, in Bixby. A small place, off a main road, unassuming from the outside. A bit confusing, in fact. There were two doors. Were these choices for Heaven or Hell? No. They were just options for dine-in or carryout. The girl and her partner sat in a comfortable booth in the clean, welcoming restaurant. Street tacos were ordered. They were delivered plain: just the meat on HOMEMADE corn tortillas. Next to her was a bar of wonders, piled with onions, cilantro, salsas, roasted peppers and onions, radishes, and limes. She affixed her tacos according to preference: spicy red salsa on the chicken, avocado salsa on the beef, salsa verde on the pork. Her partner ordered three "red tacos," also known as birria, made to dunk into a trademark consome - a heady stock that simmers the beef for hours. As they each took their first bites, they knew their lives would never be the same. The flavors burst forth! The spices tantalized and danced on their tongues. The corn tortillas tore away under the power of their jaws, eager to consume more and more of the sweet, sweet "sabor." After what felt like hours but only lasted minutes, every morsel was gone. Exhausted, they sank back into the booth, furious with their pathetic stomachs for having such a limited capacity. I'm continuing to find nice restaurants to try around town. Today my wife and I went to The Real Taco in Bixby. The red tacos are their most popular and we got the appetizer ones to try out, they were tasty. I got the loaded nachos and she got the tamales. The tamiles were a bit spicy but the nachos were just right. Afterwards we tried the tres leches cake, it was not made in house but it was a nice sweet dessert. The waiter was fast and friendly to help us as well as recommend what is their best sellers. The place was busy and while we were there I noticed a guy and his two sons were regulars there, the waiter knew their drink orders and what their usual order was before they even set down. It's a good sign to me to see so many at a location and enjoying their meals. There is road construction going on in front and is a little congested with traffic being right off of Memorial and a bit of a wait to get back on the road. If you get a chance, try out this place, I think you'll enjoy what they're cooking. read more

This is a great taco restaurant! I had the street taco combo. It was three smaller tacos on corn tortillas with beef (called asada) inside it. These tacos tasted wonderful. The beef inside had good flavor and was decent quality. Additionally, the combo came with both rice and beans and both also tasted good. The service here was good as the food was brought out in a timely manner. There was also a salsa bar here which was cool. Overall, despite this being a small restaurant, it had great food and service! read more

Real Taco has some of the best tacos in the Tulsa metro. All of them are very good, but the fish tacos and skirt steak tacos are especially good. Be sure to dress your tacos the way you want them at the salsa bar. read more

Birria Tacos.... Very good but the broth was $5 That's really pricey for a small bowl of what the meat was cooked with in the first place. Have gotten takeout a couple of times. This place is excellent. We had a variety of tacos- shrimp, two different beef tacos and a chicken. The guacamole is great and they have kind of a condiment bar with pico, salsas cilantro, etc. I had a michelada, it was as good as any I've had in Mexico. They have delicious birria. If you've never tried it, do yourself a favor and go here and order the red taco. You can order it alone if you want or include in a larger meal.
