I love the Rebel Lounge! It's near my house and they have some awesome bands coming through. It's one of my favorite venues in Phoenix. It may be small, but who doesn't like to get up close with the music?! The bar here is also great. They have a decent selection on draft, but the cans are where it's at! I can find just about any local brew here and they rotate their stock regularly. I can usually try something new at every show! read more

The Rebel Lounge is a small club with a cool vibe to it. We came from out of town for a concert and had no idea what to expect. There isn't a lot of parking on the property so we parked along the street, which turned out to be the best idea. The building has a certain charm to it, just enough edge to catch the eye of the passer by. Inside, the layout is pretty open with the stage in the back of the building and the bar along the side where you come in at. The staff and security were very easy to identify and seemed to have solid control of the club. One of the nicer features for me was the fact that on the night we went, it was all ages, so there was a barricade splitting the club in half, allowing the under 21 crown to be closer to the stage. It was just nice to know that the only drinks that would be spilled on you was water. Only ordering Jameson and Ginger Beer, the bar tender made some of the best drinks I've had. For the size of the club and the minimal acoustical features, I thought the sound was great. I would recommend anyone go check out a fun show at The Rebel Lounge. read more

The staff is friendly The bathroom was super clean They cordon off an area for those who want to drink alcohol which limited my mingling and ability to get close to the stage but overall I would definitely return. Loved that they had beer from local breweries on tap too as I was visiting from another state and always enjoy trying a local beer. read more

I've been here twice now, and have loved both experiences. First, the location is great for alternative spots for bar hopping. Plus, this place does live music every night? If not every night- it sure seems like it. The first show I saw was around this time last year- my friend had tickets to see Copeland, and asked me to come with. So he bought the tickets & I bought the drinks. It was an awesome show and between the two of us, we racked up an $80-$90 bar tab (granted we were both drinking top shelf drinks; he was drinking Jameson & coke & I was drinking Tito's presses for a good 2/3 hours. Aside from the pricey bar tab, it was a great experience. They have awesome sound & the lights are really something- def would do it again if given the chance. I went again just last weekend for a show, only this time ordered two beers, which were totally reasonably priced (I think they were like $5 each/ 1 draft & one bottle). Again, fantastic show; the bands were amazing, the sound was , and the lights were magical. The set up there really adds to the whole experience, and I'm def a fan of this place. 5/5 for sure. read more

If your under 21 don't go here I went to an all ages show here and they had a barrier set up and you couldn't pass it if you were under 21 so you basically had to stand off to the side off of the stage right in front of a PA speaker and blow your eardrums out the concert I went to was almost 6 months ago and my ear is still ringing thank a lot rebel lounge if you're going to advertise an all ages show then you need to allow people the freedom to stand wherever they want and let know in fine print that you have this barrier set up read more

The Mason Jar is BACK! Okay, I'm definitely dating myself here, so here we go. This is a nice intimate live music venue (with a history) that has been completely striped of it's old innards. Gone is the musty dankness of the former venue and it's been replaced with a really nice, clean and modern feel. My favorite part of this venue has always been the looooooooong bar. Not only does this grant you drinks MUCH faster, but if you're by yourself, there's always a good chance that you'll find a decent place to "belly up" to the bar. The sight lines are unimpeded and the sound system seems rock solid. That said, I'm not real fond of the lack of seating. ProTip #2: You enter through the side door which is behind a wall that obscures the entrance (it's always been like this). If you're a rookie, you'll certainly be perplexed, but don't worry about it, next time you'll appear like you're really "in the know". Full Disclosure: I've known the owner (Stephen Chilton) for some years now. He's a super nice guy who's been booking shows in town for quite sometime. We attended a show at this venue and it was a bad experience!! We got into the venue right after doors opened and were standing almost front row to the stage. AFTER the opening act, a security guard made us move from our spot because we are under 21. In the new spot, we were barely able to see the artist we PAID to see. We came early to get good spots all for nothing. This totally ruined our experience. We were really looking forward to the main artist. Don't recommend. Unless you're 21. read more

Super weird venue. First, before I rag on it, let me say that the sound was absolutely amazing. New speaker system and a killer sound guy - someone give him a raise! But the layout here is horrendous. It's just one, big flat floor with no incline and no seating. If you're anywhere but the front row you literally can't see anything. Just a basic small music venue with a long bar. It gets the job done but I'm not a fan of being stuck in the back of a venue because I'm drinking alcohol. I was there to see a few bands so I paid what everyone else did to be there and was excited but that turned into a bit of frustration as the show continued. I'm a short stack so being corralled in the back of a venue pretty much made my view of the bands very limited and I felt disconnected. Shouldn't the people that the venue is making all of its money off of be treated with more importance? I just want to be able to drink a beer, sing some songs and have the option to get as close as I can to the stage. read more

I went here for an all ages show (I am 21+) and it was a nightmare. I was so disappointed! First, the very tiny venue was packed on both sides. There was no way to get to the bar. I wish they had a dedicated line to and away from the bar because it was a literal wall of people with drinks blocking it. The patio was a sliver but had some seating thankfully. I didn't get why the patio wall was like 9 feet tall. I guess to keep people out? Don't go here if you're claustrophobic! When then band finally came on it was nice being so close but the acoustics were off and before their set the bar played weird 80s music. It was bizarre. The security staff was super rude. One in particular kept asking to see my ID every time I came back from the bathroom (which is the under 21 side). Even if Modest Mouse played here you couldn't get me to come back. It probably is fine as a bar but as a music venue it is poorly laid out, very hard to get around and cramped. read more

One of the most intimate live music venues you'll ever go to. It's small and the vibe is great. It is nice and clean on the inside (including the bathrooms). The staff there is super friendly, they have a full bar, and plenty of seating! If you find yourself bored for whatever reason, they even have mrs Pac-Man ready to take your quarters! read more

Amazing sound. Amazing beers. Amazing bands. This is one of my favorite local live music clubs to visit in Phoenix.

Where to start? First off, a big thank you to Kevin in security who was very nice and very polite to me. Good man. The cons? I called the day of the show to ask about disability accommodations and the guy who answered the phone said not to worry-just talk to security when I got there. So I did, and whomever "helped" me said all that was available was to sit in the very back of the long rectangular box with the very low ceiling. In a low chair. Well. He finally did find me a bar-height chair. I asked what they do with people in wheel chairs and he said they put them nearer the front. How nice. My spinal cord injury means I can't stand for hours. Maybe I'll borrow a wheel chair next time but I'd like to be independent as long as possible! My other complaint is the misinformation about capacity. The articles I read said capacity is 300, so I figured how hard will it be to see-nice and intimate. Well, I learned from security that they actually cram 700-900 people into this shoebox. Had I known that, I would not have driven up from Tucson to be shoved all the way in the back where it was impossible to see anything. Two stars for Kevin and Kevin only for being a gentleman and trying to help me. But if you have a disability, plan on bad to shitty and indifferent accommodations. read more

The short, white, bearded bouncer here is on some kind of power trip. Completely and unnecessarily rude to me about walking past him with a cup of water. It was a "No Cups" area for the underage crowd and I didn't see the sign. He yelled "CUP!!!" at me and scolded me like a child. This is a great bar for underage local music fans. Oh, the Rebel Lounge... Where to begin? This small venue is in a questionable area, I had two homeless people ask me for change while waiting for my friends. It's whatever, but uncomfortable if you're by yourself like I was, so be mindful. The door is tucked away and it basically looks like a back door with no one around it. Weird. No signs, no funky lighting, no welcoming atmosphere. Every venue I've been to there has been people standing around with security at the door at the least. Seems like a place where no one goes to much, due to the size? I did go on a Tuesday night so I could be wrong. I pay $5 at the door. Cool, right? When asked, I told security that I'm 20. My birthday is less than a month away, and I get the X's on my hands. That's expected, I'm not trying to drink as it is. I respect policies, I understand them. However, this is where the total BS starts. Past the bouncer there is this long metal gate SEPARATING 21+ from underage. What the f***? I've never seen anything like this in all of my days at shows. I mean REALLY separated. It's not even split down the middle of the stage, you have to stand on the very side of it like a loner. Guess how old all of my friends are? 21+. I couldn't stand with them on their side, nor could they bring drinks to mine. We had to vibe with this gate between us. Dumb. I get it, but that's just overkill. There's not enough people in this place to be so cutthroat strict about it. I stepped over the gate for about half of a song and got a warning about being kicked out. I'm not upset with security as they're just doing their jobs, they were actually fairly nice about it. However, I couldn't even go outside to smoke a cigarette with my friends. They do not let you past the gate for that, nor do they let you leave and come back if you want to smoke. "It's our policy," they say. Is this a joke? Well at least they give out iced tap water... ha. As for the sound... Meh. There needs to be more equipment. The acoustics sucked and the speakers were mediocre at best, with reverb that jacks up your ears. Nothing interesting about the set up. Just a little turn table on a little stage. Even though my birthday is right around the corner, I won't waste my time here. I'll support my musician friends elsewhere. The only saving grace was that it's $5, hence the two stars. Oh well, you get what you pay for. There's nothing "rebellious" about this place, it should be renamed to "The NO FUN Lounge". read more

rebel lounge exceeded my expectations. i attended a show there for the first time a couple nights ago. appleseed cast opened for caspian. i've seen appleseed cast about 8 times now, but i was new to the sounds of boston-based caspian. rebel is really easy to find on indian school, right on the corner of indian school and 23rd. they have a small parking lot, but you can easily park on 23rd and in the neighborhood behind the venue. it's all free. an added bonus. the space you walk into when you go through the door is a bit tight, but i'm sure that helps prevent people trying to sneak in. security gets you through pretty quick and you walk past the merch tables for the bands on your right immediately afterward. you then walk into an open, concrete space with a few tall tables & chairs. the bar is behind you to your left and the stage to your right. most beers are $5 on tap and if you're using credit/debit, plan to get at least 2 since they have a $10 minimum. there's not a lot of places to sit, but i barely noticed since...in my mind...going to a rock show does not involve sitting. that's for the less passionate. right in front of the stage is divided into 2 sections. 1 for people with alcohol, the other for no alcohol. the no alcohol side has more space, so if you plan to move around while you're enjoying the musical emanations about to pierce your ear drums, finish it before finding your spot. for a mainly concrete space, the sound was absolutely spot on. wow. the sound guy had tight control of how both bands sounded and you could clearly hear each instrument. about the only thing i had a hard time hearing was the keyboard from appleseed cast, but that may have been because of where i was standing (up front). both bands were unapologetically loud, especially caspian. but thanks to my earplugs i can still hear. before the show starts and between sets they have a smoker's cove (if you are so inclined) in the back and outside. it's basically a couple 6-foot walls with no roof, separate from the rest of the venue. i'm sure you can also use it while the bands are playing. i'm sure i'll see more shows at rebel lounge. the staff was professional enough, i had no bad interactions. the sound was amazing and it has relatively cheap beer...including some local brews like four peaks and san tan. read more

Update: they have modified the 21+ portion of the audience so that you 21+ can go to the front in the as well as the all ages section. I like to think my previous review made this happen. If so, thank you for listening. I enjoyed having a drink and being up front at the same time. It is a great venue! Absolutely perfect. The sound quality couldn't be better. Staff is really nice. Watch your bar tab. I was charged for extra drinks and was rewarded with the statement "I would not charge anything that you didnt order". Lying to your customers is not appreciated. No investigation into what actually happened was offered by the management who should be looking into these things. Been a few times to watch the smaller non known bands starting out, a few suggestions for the owner, get a bartender that can move and not take 5 minutes per customer, hire a power wash company to remove the smell of vomit from your parking lot, lastly, when you promise to pay the smaller bands to perform, pay them and dont stiff them at closing, seen this 3 times already. read more

We met a friend here to see some local bands play on Friday 5/22/15. The venue had just opened three days prior and was very hard to find because they had no signage up anywhere but we were immediately greeted by someone from security and welcomed. The venue is small and very intimate. It had an industrial/warehouse feel to it- which I love. The staff were highly attentive and friendly and the drinks were cheap and poured heavy. They have a small enclosed smoking patio and nice new bathrooms (which were well lit...). I definitely recommend it to anyone who is into the live music scene. We will be back for sure. The only things that I would have liked to see was more seating. Maybe a few couches or pub tables throughout? Overall, a neat spot! read more

I can definitely state that I'll never come here again. Right when we walked in the door, or maybe even before, we had people yelling out rules for us to follow. We came for a band, I'm not here to violate your business okay? Then because it's all ages the separation of the venue is just ridiculous with the gating. I couldn't even get inside the Venue cause of the gate limiting the space and then I had security push me up against it because I was "in the way of the entrance" where the fuck else am I going to go?? I've been to venues that have way smoother ways to separate a bar from underage. Write big X's on their hands to the point you can see them from a distance and so will the bartenders, give them different colored wrists bands, something but don't make it non enjoyable for the ones that are not only going to pay to see a band but pay your bartenders. What's the point in even having a bar inside? I didn't even drink but my water cup was enough of an issue as if I did. I give them 2 stars instead of 1 because of the band I came to see, so it's nice that it supported bands that weren't hugely "known" but c'mon. read more

I just recently went to a show at the Rebel Lounge with a friend. My friend wasn't feeling all that great when we got to the venue, he had a big meal before we arrived. He was having stomach problems durning the show and was constantly going to the restroom feeling nauseous. We left the venue early and he had the sudden urge to vomit as we walked out the front door of the venue. An employee of the lounge noticed what had just happened and was upset that the fact that my friend couldn't of held it till we got off the property, and told us to "get the fuck off the property". We apologize consistently and were gonna walk to our car, the employee followed us and resumed the conversation by insisting that my friend was intoxicated. We tried telling him that it was a meal we had, and that we were underage and we were no where near the bar, but instead he was cussing at us and threatening us with a police report. The employee was being a prick and made us feel very uncomfortable. The employee there was terrible and ruined my first experience there at the Lounge and I do not plan on attending another show there at that venue with that kind of attitude coming from employees. read more

like i completely understand keeping minors away from the alcohol, but they wouldn't even let us hang out with our friends who could drink saying that no one under 21 was allowed on the other side of the gate even though there were literally two twelve years olds on the OTHER SIDE of the gate. it didn't make sense and then when one of my friends went to give the other a hug they were told that now they had to stay a foot away from us. on the other side of the gate. it honestly ruined the vibe, like we already understand that underage people aren't allowed to drink hence the x's on our hands and wristbands they gave to the legal people, but that totally isolated us and ruined the whole vibe which then ruined the night. like we don't want to talk to our friends from the other side of a gate. when i asked the guy if we could go to the other side he gave me the worst attitude. we didn't even want to stay more than 30 minutes which sucked because the music was fun. an added thing is that the underage area had no seating. i'm anemic and got light headed very fast but since i'm underage i want allowed to sit on the bar side at the tables far away from the bar. don't want to come back. an unwelcoming attitude towards underage attendees. read more
