Today we stopped by The Red Bird in Roslyn as we'd heard about a yummy Monte Cristo sandwich... I ordered one and we added The Cuckoo for my hubby with smashed potato! Both dishes were truly incredible! My scrumptious stuffed Monte Cristo came with three options of jam - I chose the Marionberry which was delicious! The service was excellent, friendly and helpful. I like that the owner is GF and vegan and the muffins and cookies are delicious and GF but we ordered eggs and hash browns and it's been over an hour and we are still waiting. Stopped at this unassuming little cafe while on a lazy drive to check out Suncadia. I guess I'd describe the decor as simple and welcoming with 50's-style Formica tables and cute little chotskies sitting on top. And I can't forget to mention one of the sweetest and most personable waitresses we've ever had the pleasure to meet. Sitting down somewhere cozy and dry on a drizzly day was enough for us, but then I was blown away by an awesome pastrami Reuben - and I'm very picky about my Reubens! Delicious homemade food at a great price in a quirky, adorable atmosphere. The Red Bird Cafe is definitely worth the few miles off of Interstate 5 from Cle Elum. My husband and 24 year old daughter agree as well. We had the dill tuna on gluten free bread, the turkey melt, and the deluxe grilled cheese with creamy tomato soup. The bathroom didn't have working hot water at the faucet (minus .5 star) but the toilet had an integrated seat lid for little kids which I've never seen before so that's awesome for parents. Wear a sweater or light jacket during the cold months. He building is super old, which adds to its quirky charm but also contributes to the lack of consistent warmth throughout the restaurant (minus .5 stars). However, they did have a space heater next to a table so that's where we sat. We were too full from enjoying our delicious sandwiches that come with chips to indulge in their tempting pastries so you may want to share a sandwich with someone so you have room for a pastry or come SUPER hungry! I've only visited Roslyn 3 times, but out of those times I have been here 2 times for breakfast! I come from Seattle where the food is terrible, expensive and where service doesn't exist. It's relieving to find great tasting food, at a reasonable price, accompanied by humble enthusiastic service. I don't remember what exactly I ordered, but both times were the breakfast stacker sandwiches. I believe the first time I had called a Robin something. It had an egg cooked in the middle of the bread slice. It was full of savory flavor and I wasn't able to finish it. I can usually eat a lot. The 2nd visit, I ordered a southwest styled breakfast stacker. I didn't like it as much as the previously mentioned sandwich, but it was still satisfying. The peppers and flavors were unique from the ordinary. So if you want something a little different from the usual breakfast flavor, try this. I also got a bite of my friend's breakfast stacker (also don't remember the name, but it is the last one on the menu list). It had jam on it. I was hesitant to order this because that's not what I was feeling at the time. However that bite was a good sample. If you're looking for sweet and savory, this is the one to pick. If you're in the mood for syrup, pancakes and meat, this is a sandwich equivalent (not the exact taste, but the sweet and savory aspect). This place is delicious! My family and I drove in to Roslyn and we looked up lots of places - this place is SO accommodating to everyone and they treat you like a local. There was great coffee and every dish we ordered was delicious as well! We got the grilled cheese with tomato soup (both delicious!), a bacon egg and cheese sandwich (one of the best I've ever had) and the corn beef hash (pretty good - they make their own corn beef) and some pastries!! Great Breakfast and Great coffee!! We stopped here for breakfast while staying in Easton for the weekend! Kind of wish we would have gone here both days! Igor the breakfast Sammie on a croissant - buttery, flaky croissant, lots of egg and at least 4 strips of bacon. It was the most stacked, amazing breakfast sandwich I've ever had. My husband had the When Pigs Fly which was jam-packed with awesomeness. This place didn't look like anything too fancy (although it is very cozy and quaint), but the food was amazing! I had the biscuits and gravy, and the biscuits were fresh and baked there while the gravy was tasty and included large pieces of sausage. My date got the pastrami hash and loved it. Visiting my In-laws one town over and stopped here for an unexpected lunch. Seriously such a good philly cheese steak, which I almost couldn't believe being from the east coast. Perfect hoagie bread too, and the fact that they use the word hoagies tells you something. My son had the quiche, soup and my mother in a nice tuna sandwich light on the mayo.
