Yesterday a group of 8 of us visited The Red Llama for lunch. We had traveled to Lima, Peru last March and were missing the delicious food. What an amazing experience. All of the dishes we tasted in Peru (which were almost all homemade and not in restaurants) were available on the menu at The Red Llama! At first bite, the majority of comments were, "this takes me right back" or "this TASTES like Peru". It wasn't just enjoying delicious plates of food, but bringing us back to memories and meals we shared in country. The staff here was so welcoming, from the server to the owner and the chef, all who visited our table for a quick chat. In a city where most of the choices are chain restaurants, this was such a welcome, unique space to enjoy delicious food in a comfortable and beautifully decorated atmosphere. read more

First thing when you walk in is you can tell this is a place that feels alive with energy and people are enjoying themselves and having fun. The decor is fun and inviting. We ordered the ceviche for our appetizer and it was wonderful, great flavors. For our mains we had the Lomo Saltado with beef and Pollo A La Brasa. The Lomo Saltado had wonderful flavors and was very filling the sauce was excellent. The Pollo A La Brasa came with a sauce that made the chicken go from really good to great. The service was always very attentive, Kali was super friendly and knowledgeable. I will definitely revisit this place multiple times as we only scratched the surface of this menu. read more

First time here and I'm definitely going back. I'm an adventurous eater so I picked up a to go order of the Anticucho- Beef heart & the Pollo a La Brasa. It came with a variety of sauces. I was thrilled by how delicious and tender the Anitcuchu was (tastes like a very tender steak and flavorful) and the Chicken was very good too. Seasoned nicely. Next time it think I'd like to order a side of rice and plantains. (I think they have both, just need to get side orders) It did come with potatoes which was good, I just prefer plantains and rice. I'm so happy to have something different in Lone Tree. Nice way to add a new taste to the area. Looking forward to dining in soon. read more

We'd hoped to eat there this evening but found a LARGE sign upon walking in there about having a seat where ever you wanted, but if had a reservation please walk up to the front. I did both and no one visited with me even when standing there. There was no front end staff and no way to find them. Open seats either were dirty or filled with napkins waiting to be folded. We loved the food before but didn't see available employees or managers. It was chaotic and place was hopping, but not that much to not notice a paying customer who then went elsewhere. The sausage/french fry plate was decent, but nothing super standout/special. It would have been fun to maybe have a flavored ketchup or something to give it a little variety. Just go! Don't wait! We experienced The Red Llama for the first time this afternoon. I use the word experienced because it felt like much more than a late lunch. Kayson and Kallie (please excuse my spelling), were wonderful hosts! Kayson recommended some amazing dishes and immediately sold us with his knowledgeable delivery. Kallie helped us with all other questions. The entire staff seemed lovely. We ordered the Aji de Gallina and the Leche de tigre ceviche appetizer. The atmosphere is welcoming and upbeat. Red Llama misses on almost every level. Went to the restaurant for an early dinner and were hectically greeted twice and asked if we had reservations. We didn't and they said they'd try to fit us in even though the restaurant was half empty and there was a lot of serving staff roaming around. Great start. We were then seated and not well introduced to their online ordering system which makes it feel as if you're ordering delivery or fast food. Once we ordered, all the food came at once which they don't tell you will happen on the app. The food is not what you'd expect for Peruvian nor for the prices at $30 a dish. The Chicharrons, although flavorful were diced small and mushy. The Lomo Saltado had maybe 3 ounces of meat on top of a mountain of fries and was all drenched in a sauce that had almost an Asian flavor to it. All this was paired with very cheap and almost bitter wine. For offering $30 dishes, you would think they would have at least somewhat decent drinks to select from. We skipped on dessert or a second drink and quickly paid on the app and left. The service is also not what you would expect, or want, from a seemingly nice restaurant. Servers are not assigned an area and they all just buzz around so you'll be asked the same thing 4 different times from 4 different servers every 5 minutes. Felt worse than dealing with annoying clerks at a retail store. Overall, very sub par experience for Peruvian or any type of restaurant. Sadly, most people will think it's great since Peruvian places are rare in the area. read more

First Peruvian food experience here and it definitely has me craving it again. Our waitress was phenomenal the first time we were in and guided through the menu and recommended a bunch of dishes like a Peruvian omakase. The food was great, good portion sizes and packed a ton of flavor. Very cute decor and good lighting for a nice dinner date. Only critique is that my wife came by again with some friends and the waiter that time didn't have the same passion as our first experience so it detracted a bit. The decoration and music were incredible. The pollo a la brasa was good (but not the best one), the chicha morada amazing! All the Hispanic staff who served us were very friendly, but there was one woman very rude, always with a long face, and when we asked for something she completely forgot. I had to ask someone else for what I needed it. En general todo genial, como menciono arriba el pollo a la brasa súper bien presentado pero al sabor le faltaba algo. I went here back in March to visit family. It was my first time eating at this place and my goodness let me just tell you, you can tell how passionate the workers are here. This maybe my new favorite restaurant. The food is outstanding. The pork tamales were amazingly light. The beef heart was tender and had a beautiful char on them and that sauce would taste good on anything. And the rice with seafood was better than paella we had in Spain. The rice was perfectly cooked. These flavors were so complex that this food could be served in a much fancier setting. I would not be surprised if they opened another branch downtown in a very trendy setting and charged 50% more for the same food. The wait staff were also notably attentive and kind. Kali and Yamie took a huge amount of pride in the food and clearly got a lot of joy out of providing recommendations and in our reaction to the food. Really good food! The menu is online, which was very easy to use even though I prefer physical menus. My husband loves potatoes, so I got him the causa and he enjoyed it! It's considered a starter on the menu but my husband had it as his meal haha. Ceviche is my go to when it comes to Peruvian food, and the one here was great! Great portions as well, the spice level was perfect. We also got some chicha morada and that was delicious! I don't think I've been to a restaurant that put a little fruit in it, so having this restaurant do that was really nice and delightful! It was a bit pricey but worth it in my opinion for the amount and quality you get. The service was also great. Servers were very kind and we got our food fairly quickly despite how busy it was. This place gets 5 stars from me for sure! All of the staff is very friendly and accommodating and their food is absolutely FANTASTIC!! So much lighter and flavorful than I could've imagined. Amazing Peruvian cocktails and many unique non-alcoholic choices as well! The menu isn't overwhelming but I wanted to try everything! Will definitely have to come back to try more. I will be putting together a social media review on this restaurant as well, but I wanted to make sure to post this review as soon as possible so that everyone knows how great it is! They even have a photo wall where you can dress up and take your picture in front of their TRL sign The space is very clean. The restrooms are incredibly clean and accommodating (ladies there are even monthly products in case you're surprised while at dinner). Tonight my daughter and I spontaneously ended up here on a whim while running errands. I tried this food before the owners opened this restaurant. I used to meet up with the owner to buy food from her when she was trying to introduce the Peruvian food to the community about 7-8 years ago. It was neat to know back then this was the ultimate dream and now to see the dream come true was quite neat. From the moment we walked in, the ambience was so welcoming and decorated with such beautiful details. The silverware, napkins, plates and cups were of high quality. The servers were knowledgeable and friendly. They change up their menu often and I can't remember the name of the dishes we ordered but they were both fantastic and full of flavor. My daughter was really looking forward to a pesto pasta dish that we used to get from the owner but it wasn't on the menu so she was a bit bummed when the waitress told us it's only on special occasions. That pesto dish is what got my daughter to love pesto to this day. But, when I started talking to the owner and told her my daughter loves the pasta dish, she had the pesto pasta dish made for my daughter. It was super unexpected and sweet. We were stuffed by then so we just took it home. I highly recommend this restaurant if you are in the area and have never tried and would like to try Peruvian food. [NOTE: I did not intend to write a negative review, but since Denver has been highlighted to be a city with overpriced restaurants, I decided to give my comments and let other patrons decide.] I took my two adult children here per my son's desire to have Peruvian food. At first glance, no ambience and you have to use your phone to access the menu, which I found annoying. You can expect to pay $30 for an entree. We each ordered different dishes with either top loin steak or beef. My Lomo tasted OK, but the beef was tough and there was way too much pasta & sauce with not enough meat & vegetables. My son ordered a Pisco Sour ($16, pricey) while my daughter & I just had water. Poor service as we had to ask for water refills & for a credit card receipt at the end, which I also found annoying. Our bill included state, county, city & a 'special' tax that amounted to $8 (wow). So while the meal was just so-so, I wish I had overruled my son and gone to a place like Chipotle to get better food for half the price. Live and learn, one and done. read more
