Absolutely a 5 star place. What a nice restaurant and excellent food. Rustic ambience and the folks here are also 5 star. We will definitely be back!!!

Stopped in while waiting for pizza next door , enjoyed a beverage -who would of thought this place would be in Flatonia Texas -what a find, and the French bread is outstanding

We were on our way to San Antonio & hungry. Made a search & caught our attention the 5.0 clean rating, which is not common. We had the Cheese Platter for appetizer, then Fried Chicken, Fried Cod, Cole Slaw, Side Salad & Pomme Frites......every single thing was delicious & we endorse the 5 stars this place is a must in one's bucket list‼

This place is a hidden gem! I must admit that I never expected to find a place like this in such a small town. I found myself in Flatonia for lunch on a Wednesday. After trying several other restaurants that were closed, I settled on this place. I wasn't excited because of the $$$ on Yelp, but it seemed to be the only option in town. Boy was I surprised! This place is located in a historic commercial block in a fabulous old building. The dinner prices may be steep (I didn't look), but the lunch prices were completely reasonable. There was a selection of sandwiches, salads, full plates, and salad. I settled on the turkey sandwich that came with fries. It was phenomenal! It was served on French bread and was fully loaded with turkey and extras. The fries were also just as good. I'm pretty sure they had Parmesan and truffle oil on them. My entire bill, with an iced tea, was only $11.

Amazing food and service. Can be a bit pricey but worth it. Go here on most holiday when we do not want to cook.

Sushi is my ultimate favorite food, so after reading countless glowing reviews, I was beyond excited to finally experience Sushi by Scratch for myself. My friend booked this about a month in advance and thoughtfully noted my dietary restrictions. There was Wagyu on the menu, which they seamlessly substituted for me without hesitation, and they also accommodated my pineapple allergy with zero issues. The attention to detail started well before the first bite. Guests are invited to arrive about 30 minutes early to complete check-in and participate in the pre-omakase ritual. After checking in, we were seated in the waiting area and served a refreshing non-alcoholic ginger beverage, followed by canape service. We were given 2 beautifully prepared bites as we waited to transition into the full experience. It set the tone perfectly. Once guided into the omakase room, we were greeted with a handwritten wooden name plaque at our seat, a small but thoughtful touch that immediately made the evening feel personal. With only a 10-seat counter, the experience is incredibly intimate. The chefs introduced themselves, and we were presented with the beverage options. Two of us opted for the Japanese whisky pairing, while another chose the sake pairing, both excellent complements to the meal. Before the first piece even hit the counter, the chefs revealed the night's journey on the wall: 16 wooden plaques, each hand-lettered with the names of pristine fish and indulgent bites. It reads like a quiet flex on hamachi, madai, akami, toro, A5 wagyu where each course waiting its turn. It's a reminder that omakase isn't about choice but about surrender. One detail that truly stood out was how effortlessly accommodating they were. When my dietary restriction came up again, the Wagyu substitution was handled with no hesitation, no awkwardness--just a seamless adjustment that still felt intentional and indulgent. Throughout the meal, the chefs chatted with us as they prepared each course, explaining the fish, techniques, and flavor profiles. The interaction felt warm and natural, and the intimate setting made it easy to connect not only with the chefs but also with the guests seated next to us. Overall, this was an unforgettable experience from start to finish. I would highly recommend Sushi by Scratch to anyone who truly loves omakase. I'm already thinking about doing this again next time at their LA location when I get back home.

The sushi was high quality and each piece of nigiri was made in a unique way. The nigiri was very good (4/5), but the sushi rice was a little thick. The service was 5/5, with 3 sushi chefs and one lady serving and introducing the drinks. The banter was light and free flowing without feeling like you were being forced to engage. And don't be surprised but there are no utensils here, just dig in with your fingers! And if you get one of the drink pairings, the pour is very generous. This place is inside Hyatt Regency Lost Pines Resort on the second floor. It was definitely a great night, and we left stuffed. Not the best omakase I've had but very good.

First off we almost skipped it as we are not a fan of this plaza but will say we are SO glad we didn't. Arrived at 4:50 on a Tuesday afternoon and not a table in sight. We signed in to wait behind another gentleman but then were offered the shushi bar which we accepted. I was shocked to learn they have been here for 2.5 years, truly mind blown. The server said there is almost always a wait and on the weekends can be close to 2 hours. Wow. We ordered 4 rolls and 2 deserts and were very satisfied with everything! Our favorite was the crappy salmon and the popcorn roll. The place was small but clean and cute. Loved the little details like the little cats as chip stick prop ups/holders. I thought the prices were super fair, food was incredible, service was incredible, we will for sure be back!!!!!

She eats sushi, but she doesn't eat too much raw fish yet, so I told her she had to "cheers" with me every bite while I was teaching her how to eat and enjoy different kinds of sushi. Then the tables turned because SHE had to teach ME how to eat the soba noodles since it was my first time trying them. She goes, "Mom, it's in anime!" LOL. Apparently she knew exactly what she was doing. All of the workers were really nice, welcoming, and attentive. The restaurant was SUPER busy, and since it was our first time there, we didn't mind waiting. And honestly, it was definitely worth the wait! My daughter especially loved the ambiance. She made me take a bunch of pictures of her with the "aesthetic"x It was nice and quiet, and the seating had enough space that you weren't hearing the entire conversation from the group next to you. I do wish the restaurant was a little bigger, but hey... maybe in due time because they definitely deserve it! They also surprised us with a complimentary Pepper Fin -- yellowtail topped with jalapeño, greens, and sauce -- and OMG, it was SO GOOD! Such a nice surprise and definitely one of the highlights of our meal. Overall, great food, great service, great atmosphere, and most importantly, such a cute little mother-daughter memory for us. Thank you, Sushi Yume! I'll definitely be bringing my husband back next time so he can try it too!
