Stopped in while waiting for pizza next door , enjoyed a beverage -who would of thought this place would be in Flatonia Texas -what a find, and the French bread is outstanding

We were on our way to San Antonio & hungry. Made a search & caught our attention the 5.0 clean rating, which is not common. We had the Cheese Platter for appetizer, then Fried Chicken, Fried Cod, Cole Slaw, Side Salad & Pomme Frites......every single thing was delicious & we endorse the 5 stars this place is a must in one's bucket list‼

Turkey sandwich and fries

This place is a hidden gem! I must admit that I never expected to find a place like this in such a small town. I found myself in Flatonia for lunch on a Wednesday. After trying several other restaurants that were closed, I settled on this place. I wasn't excited because of the $$$ on Yelp, but it seemed to be the only option in town. Boy was I surprised! This place is located in a historic commercial block in a fabulous old building. The dinner prices may be steep (I didn't look), but the lunch prices were completely reasonable. There was a selection of sandwiches, salads, full plates, and salad. I settled on the turkey sandwich that came with fries. It was phenomenal! It was served on French bread and was fully loaded with turkey and extras. The fries were also just as good. I'm pretty sure they had Parmesan and truffle oil on them. My entire bill, with an iced tea, was only $11.

Amazing food and service. Can be a bit pricey but worth it. Go here on most holiday when we do not want to cook.

There's an empty lot next door for parking as well as some street parking, but both are pretty limited and hard to come by. If you can Uber, I recommend it. The outdoor tent setup is really pretty and feels like a romantic date night and the main dining experience, while the inside is much more basic, but air conditioned. We were seated indoors which was good since it had just rained and the weather was quite muggy. Our unfriendly waiter (so French) came over right away to take drink orders. Our group consisted of one beer drinker, one cocktail sipper, one soda guzzler and one water drinker. The drinks were very good. For appetizers we started with the grilled octopus and escargots, both of which were delicious and the stars of the meal. For entrees two of us ordered the steak frites, also ordered bolognese, and côte de porc. Nothing was bad at all, but nothing really stood out either. For dessert we tried the crème brûlée and chocolate ganache, which were fine to finish the meal. If you go, definitely get the grilled Spanish octopus, that was the standout dish for me. For a party of four, our bill came out to $360 plus the tip. I'm glad I finally tried it, but with the higher prices and kind of average food, I don't feel a strong urge to come back anytime soon. Maybe in good weather I would uber over for some drinks and great appetizers.

You don't have to be French to hate Justine's…read more Too bad to have to leave this clip joint even one star. Wait! I give it one star for the amazing gall to offer this offal up as French food! And for rolling their eyes, and their practiced Gallic condescension. Austin used to have a couple of decent French restaurant/bistros: Chez Nous was run by people from Marseilles, and Chamonix, and other parts of France. It didn't compare to French restaurants in France, but it was a decent value, and it was way better than nothing. Fabi & Rosi was probably more German than French, but with a good Euro mentality. Both Fabi & Rosi and Chez Nous died in the Covid plague. The best French resto in Austin by far was Aquarelle, which when it opened had a skilled chef in the kitchen from Aix-en-Provence. Austin probably wasn't ready for real French food at the time, and it quietly folded a few years ago. That brings us to Justine's: when it opened ca. 2009, it was a good value. The escargots were good, the onion soup was good, they served Delice de Bourgogne cheese, and the bread was good enough to mop up the garlic butter sauce. The other offerings were always meh, and the place was loud enough to remove the enamel from your teeth. I had skipped it for a few years until I got back from a trip to France, and wanted a nice French dinner. So I chose to return to Justine's. The crime and the pity of this place is that it is owned and operated by French people, and they know real French food, and they are deliberately abusing the public with their food, service, and prices. Americans generally associate French dining with arrogance, condescension. and laughable price points: if that's your expectation, then Welcome To Justine's! We ordered the radishes served with butter as an appetizer, which was not served with bread--which is sort of the whole point of eating radishes and butter. When we pointed this out, they charged us $5.00 for a half-baguette of bread to go with. Their bread! Their bread! Oo-la-la! Every French or Italian person knows that bread is firm and crusty on the outside and pillowy and delectable on the inside. What we got was the usual squishy, spongy stuff they sell at Walmart (not to cast aspersions on Walmart). THESE PEOPLE KNOW BETTER than to serve bread like this, and at this price! The rest of the meal was downhill--and EXPENSIVE, laughably overpriced, like the stereotypical snotty French dining experience. Before you eat here, do yourself the favor of reading the plethora of one-star reviews before submitting your own. And while we're here, the local food critics LOVE this place--has anybody writing these reviews ever been to France? Or Quebec? So many good restos in Austin have died, ill-served and neglected by the local 'food experts'. Let the buyer....wait: QUE L'ACHETEUR SOIT PRUDENT! THAT'S as close to France as you'll get with THIS joint.

I absolutely loved the aesthetics -- there was plenty of parking, and when you walk inside, the décor feels classic, elegant, and welcoming. Our server, David, was extremely professional. His knowledge, attentiveness, and overall professionalism made this a really special birthday night for my boyfriend. We appreciated all the recommendations he made. We started with a Tempranillo red wine and a specialty cocktail. For appetizers, we chose the goat cheese salad and the French onion soup. Both were excellent -- the goat cheese salad was fresh and light, with an amazing crunch and flavor from the cheese. I would definitely order it again. The French onion soup was classic but honestly one of the best I've had, with the perfect balance of onion, salt, and cheese. For our mains, we ordered the beef Wellington and the lobster risotto, along with sides of blue cheese cauliflower and scalloped potatoes. The beef Wellington was surprisingly good -- I loved the crisp puff pastry combined with the mushrooms, beef, and sauce. The lobster risotto was chef's kiss -- absolutely delicious. I'm so glad they introduced the new menu because this dish was outstanding. The blue cheese cauliflower tasted good, though I wish the cream sauce had been a bit thicker so it would coat the cauliflower better. The scalloped potatoes, however, were phenomenal. We finished with a slice of strawberry cake that was incredibly moist and reminded me of strawberry ice cream with that nostalgic crumb coating -- really delicious. Overall, we were both extremely happy with our meals and the experience. We'll definitely be back to try more items and highly recommend it!

It's been quite a long time since I was here and as I was in the neighborhood I decided to stop by again today. Remembering how good they were last time, I ordered the Oma's Frikadellen (grandma's recipe for all-beef meatballs). I like a good German meatball and these were tender and juicy. There was a choice of red cabbage or sauerkraut as a side; having confirmed they made the sauerkraut in-house themselves, had to order that because I know it's super healthy to eat. Better yet, that sauerkraut was almost perfect with a great flavor, but not too tart and just really a delicious version. Honestly I could've eaten a huge bucket load of that sauerkraut and I may buy some to go someday just to have it on hand in my refrigerator; a slight warm and it would be a wonderful side to serve guests. Dessert was a wow! I wanted to try a dessert that they made themselves and so I couldn't help but go with one of the dessert specials of the day. There were several options available not on the menu and although it was tempting to try the tiramisu or one of the three versions of crème brûlée they make, I decided to go with their homemade limoncello cake which turned out to be a delicious choice that I'm very happy about. Waiter Ty said it was one of his favorite desserts here and I could taste why -- moist cake, flavor-filled filling, whipped cream and with blueberries to decorate the plate. In fact it was so yummy that I decided that so someday soon I would order one with a couple days notice and then take it to my family's place next time I go over for dinner - what I don't know is whether I'll tell them the truth or try and pretend that I made it myself LOL :-) Update: the next day I did call to order an entire cake and it didn't last very long once the family dug in, got gobbled up because it had an intense great lemon flavor, wonderful.

Whatever that means. Too many great places around for far less. On the way out another customer leaned in and asked about the escargot. She questioned if they were fresh. UGH.
