The continental breakfast offers a bunch of fruit and other things I can't even remember. That's how unappealing it was. It's free, for gold and diamond Hilton honors members. If you want a omelet, AND YOU WILL, there's a chef. It'll cost you five dollars. My server, Kasey, was incredibly attentive. Back in November, friends came to town and we had a late dinner the The Regency Room. I was blown away at the quality of each dish (and the cocktail), as well as our server's great and personable attitude. We over-ordered food and shared everything and every dish was fresh, well seasoned, well cooked, and absolutely to the expected value for the price. My wife and I had a fantastic evening on February 14th. The Valentine's Day menu was $150 and we couldn't finish the meal. Very rich and wonderful food. Drew was our server and he did a fantastic job. We drank WAY too much good wine and had a wonderful time dancing which we hadn't done in years. We are new to the Roanoke area moving here from Northern Virginia where DC area restaurants are all amazing. We felt as though this was fine dining at it's best and really hope to go back again and again. We did feel bad when we saw a young couple walk in (apparently staying at the hotel) and when they sat down and saw the price they couldn't believe it and ran out. I felt bad for the staff and the hostess as it looked as though she would cry. My wife and I have been married 20 years and that night just made us feel like newlyweds again. I know there is a pandemic going on and all restaurants are limited to outdoor seating at this time...but when you order a thirty dollar meal you should be provided bread while you wait. When indoors you receive the bread and the service is always good. Not impressed with service received outdoors. Good in theory but poor execution: The atmosphere and friendly staff saved this place from only getting 1 star and you can tell real effort goes into the little things that make for a good dining experience. However, the food was very poor. The menu was creative and presentation was good but the taste was awful for most of the dishes. Whether it was a good cut of steak ruined by an incredibly sweet sauce or well-cooked shrimp ruined by an insane amount of garlic; it felt like the chefs couldn't help but tinker with great food until they somehow made it taste terrible. If you are planning your holiday get-togethers, please be careful not to be snagged by what this restaurant used to be or is hyped to be. My family called and reserved a table for a birthday brunch. A representative in the restaurant knew that the meal was to be a long breakfast/brunch, made suggestions, took the date and time down and had the table ready when we arrived. As the waiter was seating us he advised, "Decide quickly and fill your plates with all that you want if you choose the buffet. We are getting ready to transition and to take the food up." What a disappointment! To have ladies at a birthday party eating the last few eggs scraped from a pan or a bowl of oatmeal for one who just settled rather than rushing. I was embarrassed for my guests and the hostess. I have contacted the Regency Room three times believing that they owed the hostess an apology and a percentage of the total in refund. One manager offered me a meal, nothing for my daughter who was misguided by the person who took the reservation. One message was never returned and one manager offered me two breakfasts after chastising me for "not knowing that the RR NEVER has brunch on Saturday!" but emphasizing that there would be NO reimbursement. I am so very disappointed in this old Southern icon that supposedly represents and welcomes folks to Roanoke to stay awhile. The Hotel Roanoke's restaurant, The Regency Room, hosted our small wedding party of 19 people and two small children. To insure the kitchen can respond to the dinner entrees in time, I was presented with four options in advance. I chose the 3rd option. Our guests had four choices for the main entree. Most people chose the steak or crab cakes. Everyone enjoyed all of the food. The steak was incredible / delicious. The staff waiting on us did a wonderful job. I recommend the restaurant for wedding and other larger groups. Gratuity of 20% is included in the final price; the staff earned it. read more

After several visits to the Hotel Roanoke we decided to try the Regency Room Valentine's Day dinner. Bravo, you folks knocked it out of the park.From the moment we were seated we knew something special was about to happen. Our server Mallory was incredible.She made us so comfortable. We started with a Rose for my wife and a glass of champagne and a tuna tartare, shame on you chef, this might be illegal it was so good. I had the pork belly for appetizer and my wife had She soup. Both were wonderful. After a perfect salad ( right size portion) we went to the main course. By the way looking at your phones wasn't necessary as a wonderful band kept you entertained. Some folks danced delightfully. For our main course my wife had Lobster Thermidor and I had a New York strip steak with a hollandaise sauce and asparagus. Their bread tasted a bit like an Asiago bread with whipped butter and was fantastic and the only way to end this experience was a decadent Box of Chocolate Cake that was a once in a lifetime chefs dream. Amazing brunch spread. They have everything in buffet style. Plenty of great desserts, breakfast selections including meats and omelette station. There is also a section towards the back that serves grilled meats of prime cuts along with salad bar. The environment is great for families, and it has a slightly formal feel. But at brunch times it is by no means rigid. The service was friendly and quick. Definitely a good place to take out-of-town visitors. read more

Went for Valentines Dinner. Decided we would use Downtown Roanoke gift cards for dinner since Regency Room is on the list. At time to pay we were given a hard time for wanting to use the cards. Eventually they came back and told us for each $25 gift card they would only give us $20. We asked for the cards back and were told no, they have already been ran. Total meal was just over $200. We gave them 8 $25 cards and our credit card for the difference. After taking all 8 of our $25 cards, our credit card was also swiped for over $100 which had us paying over $300 for a $200 meal. The host took our info and told us we could settle things up with accounting next week and went into the back and never came back out. Absolutely horrible experience. read more

We chose the Regency Room to celebrate our parents 60th wedding anniversary. From the moment our feet crossed the threshold we were treated like royalty, with top-notch service, gracious hospitality and kindness. Every member of staff we encountered seemed to truly enjoy their job and make our evening special. Our server, Joshua, was impeccable and attentive, delivering every morsel of delicious food with flair, the 3-piece jazz ensemble was fantastic - other members of staff stopped by the table to offer congratulations to Mom and Dad and to top off our wonderful evening, Lowell, who I believe was the maître d', sang the most beautiful rendition of 'What a Wonderful World' to my parents. The dining experience at the Regency Room is extremely formal. It's the type of place that the host pulls out the woman's chair, and there's a band that plays a jazzed up version of I shot the sheriff. We made a reservation on Open Table, although it wasn't needed, on a Friday night the restaurant was half empty. We were the youngest people there by far. The food was heavy, but good. The maitre d was amazingly gracious and assured us we looked fine. Waitress asked how we (2women) knew each other. On learning we were married she applauded. Her recommendations were superb. She was graciously friendly without being overbearing. And, again, made excellent food and cocktail recommendations Drinks -- whiskey sour and pot of gold (Irish whiskey and schnapps) were excellent. Dinner -- peanut soup, crab bisque, salad, duck beignets, and an amazing scallop and shrimp with lump crab and bisque over spoon bread -- all standouts Hard to choose between the desserts that Mallory recommended but she helped. Usually love the food and service at this restaurant. On June 2 our waitress neglected to bring requested bread or crackers, ice for our water and seemed bothered by our requests. Four of us spent about $265 for mediocre food, one cocktail each and little else. My chicken was $30, one piece and mushy risotto. Must say the crab bisque was delicious. Sorry folks but a disappointing experience with folks from out-of-town. Know the pandemic has been a bad situation but believe they could have done a much better job. read more

Thanksgiving was a miss. I normally write 5-star reviews, and love to lavish praise, but this was a disappointment that I hope management will take in. My main gripe was that the turkey must have been a processed "loaf", not carved from a bird, as my 2 pieces were not at all like real turkey, they were 2 heavy lumps of uniformly-sized "product." The first sign of trouble was that we asked our server for both white and dark meat, and she said they were only serving white meat. I asked why - she said something about it was easier for them to serve...? So that told me they were likely not carving from whole birds (I should have changed to the prime rib!), but rather serving a processed white-meat product, which is UNACCEPTABLE for a nice restaurant! The online photo showed a whole bird, which implies the whole bird is in the kitchen--including dark meat. Misrepresentation -- this is important in setting customer expectations. We would have happily paid more for a true carved bird, including white and dark meat-- maybe part of a drumstick upon request. So many disappointments -- no shade to the chefs -- they truly do great work and we appreciate everyone especially working during covid, but the menu was bizarre and nonsensical for a traditional Thanksgiving, in my experience. Fish soup? Cold salami on salad? These clashed with the hot meal part -- how about traditional butternut squash soup -- that would have been LOVELY and flowed well with the Thanksgiving theme. It was like, "What do we have lots of in the kitchen? OK, use that." The fish soup was watery, also -- there was no evidence of crab -- along with being inappropriate -- was it supposed to be a bisque? And it was served from what looked like a coffee pot, which was both clever and weird at the same time? It was also weird eating cold salami before turkey. Would have preferred more traditional openers. The plating of the meal was something you'd see in a cafeteria -- the turkey "loaf" slices were plopped on top of all the hot sides in the middle -- were they trying to hide the sides and avoid creating a beautiful plating? And honestly the meal was flavorless -- the only thing I remember is carrots. My husband told me later that my wine was $12 a glass, which is fine IF it was a healthy pour -- which it was not -- and in a high-end stemware glass, which it was not -- the wine glass was something from a dollar store. Details make the difference, and to charge $12, that calls for a fancy glass. Our server was fairly friendly and did the minimum. She never asked us how our meal was -- maybe she didn't want to know or hear it, nor what else she could bring us, my husband had to ask for his water filled 3 times, and she did not ask if I wanted another glass of wine -- my glass was sitting empty for awhile, and someone should have been on that -- ask if I want another, then take the empty glass away. Also, those little butters in paper is UNACCEPTABLE for a nice restaurant! Butter should be sliced and plated, or better yet round-scooped and placed delicately on a plate. Papered butter belong in a diner, not a nice restaurant. The menu had a glaring typo -- "CRAVED" turkey, not carved. Big mistake for an important day -- whoever was responsible for OK-ing the menu needs to be demoted, as this affects the restaurant's credibility. Details. The desserts were very good! My husband also told me later that there was a $17 "service charge" which confused him, but he did not want to make a scene, so he also added a normal tip on top of that. In hindsight, that's not cool -- most people like us won't notice it, so we end up double-tipping unintentionally? The ladies up front were super-nice and did a great job on the front end in making the reservation and seating us. Bravo to them! The piano player saved the day -- he was awesome and created a lovely ambiance and experience. Excellent touch! We will definitely return on a non-holiday, and I hope to submit a 5-star review soon:) read more

My family took part in this year's take out Mother's Day Brunch from the Regency Room at Hotel Roanoke and it was absolutely perfect. The process of ordering and picking up the food was simple and efficient. The food was delicious and we were pleasantly surprised by the inclusion of a charcuterie board ((to go with the meats and cheeses included in the brunch package) and the sweet petunia for the table. The package truly made this Mother's Day special for my mother despite the strange times we are all living in. We were all shocked by the abundance of food in the package for a relatively low price. In fact, our experience was so pleasurable that even if/when this quarantine is lifted we would absolutely consider making this take home brunch a family tradition. We had breakfast buffet in the dining room. I really enjoyed the smoked salmon with capers, red onion, hard boiled egg, and cream cheese. It's a pretty typical buffet otherwise - omelet station, bacon, sausage, potatoes, eggs, muffins, fruit. We took out-of-town guests to the Regency Room for Thanksgiving Dinner as a special treat, but were disappointed in the service. The food was good, but our waitress disappeared once our drinks came. Our water was not refilled and my husband actually had to remove our dirty plates as she didn't return until the check came. The check included a 20% gratuity, which she didn't mention when she brought the check. Our reservations were for 7 p.m. and our waitress just seemed to have "checked out". Superb! We went for my husband's birthday and couldn't have asked for a better experience. They had live jazz music playing right in the center of the restaurant, which was really a great addition. What a jewel in downtown Roanoke. Everything we had was 5 stars. You must get the she crab soup. It was really a standout. The Regency Garden Salad was great, the shrimp and grits, the trout, and the hanger steak--all excellent!!! We finished with a tasty (free since it was his birthday) dessert, the hot and cold chocolate semifreddo. We can't wait to go back and try their brunch! My family and I have been dining at the Regency Room for years, and it remains as stellar as always. The peanut soup is a classic and always a necessity! The quality of seafood is fantastic considering how far from the shore Roanoke is. Bananas foster is by far the best dessert on the menu, if not in the city or area. The staff consistently makes an effort to make this fine-dining experience a notch above any restaurant of this caliber in the area. First time visit. Everything was amazing I never give 5 stars but they deserve it. We ordered 1 of everything since it was our first time and was not disappointed. Love the butter pat shaped like hotel Roanoke and the plates w state flower on them. Great 3 piece jazz band and watching older couples strut. We each had a glass of bubbly, Cabernet 9oz pour, each had an appetizer and shared a sample of peanut soup. Both had steak entrees. Bill was very reasonable I'd say half of what we spend at Frankie's. I don't know how anyone complained about it taking 2 to 3 hours we did everything in 1 hour on a Saturday. A dinning experience should take a long time no need to rush. We will be back again and again. We're hooked! read more
