Hrmm. I've been to a tavern before. Like, a really nice tavern. A tavern, this place is not. This would be more of a lounge. Don't let the sign outside fool you. If you're expecting a quiet night with a pint, you're in for something different. That's not to say that's a bad thing... BUT you may be expecting something different, based on the name. I reallllly want to like this place. The decor is actually very nice and it's quite clean in here. However, this place is located in Benicia. While there's nothing wrong with that, the next town over is Vallejo. If you're not really ready for a night of dealing with a bit of spillover from some of Vallejo's unsavory crowd, well, your night is not going to be that much enjoyable. The drinks prepared here are standard fare. Nothing spectacular in execution, with no cocktail I can remember that wowed me. Rum & cokes tend to be a bit bi-polar in nature. One comes out, it's too sweet. Another comes out, bartender when nuts on the rum. And I love rum, so that's unfortunate. Tom collins were okay, but again, nothing out of the ordinary. Same goes for an Americano and other cocktails i've tried here, ad nauseum and so forth. Semi-friendly staff, though there are times when I feel like the waitresses forget about me. Overall, not a very memorable place for me. If I have a group of friends going here, i'll probably tag along for kick-it's sake. This bar has an ego that would shame Kanye West. The bartenders seem to not see you when you're right in front of them and the crowd seems... I don't like saying this word, but "snooty." The whole atmosphere seems generally unwelcoming. On top of that, the last time I went, the bartender gave himself an $8.50 tip for one drink... and not just to me, but to my friend as well... (I remember him being the old guy, so use cash or avoid him altogether) The decor is bold with a lot of seating and the bathrooms are always clean. Major problem: The drink prices seem to sky rocket when a particular bartender decides to tip himself more than the drink is worth. I think I've been here far too many times to make it a Coincidence. Either out of sheer boredom or a hard days works or a place to kick it with my friends. It provides a cool atmosphere especially for those in the Vallejo/Benicia Area. Wow ... an actual "cool" bar in Benicia?!? SHOCKER. After reading the reviews and preparing my Yelper ways, I was actually looking forward to see this dive bar turned lounge. Although I never seen Rellik as Past Times, the exterior appearance already speaks out for the beautiful renovations completed on the bar. The place is amazing inside! I was walking through a SF bar but in my favorite small-town. Our friend was celebrating his birthday here and we find him situated in one of the corners, which actually had enough space to walk and sit. The drinks are expensive, but they were worth every penny. Their Long Island is worth the $9 a piece and when I got their house vodka and tonic, it was oh so drinkable for $8 a piece. Their smoking section is in an enclosed box in the back. Don't expect ventilation, you won't find any. All in all, I would love to give this place a go for future bar nights. I don't recommend the food. They claim their food isn't fried but it probably just isn't fried THERE. It's probably fried then frozen and warmed up there. Coffee Bar by day....Tavern by night! What?! I haven't reviewed Rellik yet? Shame on me. Let's review it! I'm not from Benicia. Been married to a Benician woman for 13 years though. Sounds exotic! Despite this, we've never really spent anytime together on first street. So, I had no point of reference. Judging from the "PastTime" demo remnants, Rellik was a dramatic improvement! Slick, contemporary, and clean from floor to ceiling! I loved the flat-screens across the wall above the bar as well the color fading spirits wall. Place is still newer and people seem to love it! Very busy, but our server kept us taken care of for the duration. They had a full bar along with a menu with specials and specialties. There also was a flier with listed events, regular events upstairs, and a relatively honored dress code. The only thing I really didn't like was the pathway to the restrooms in the back. It was a bit to clogged with people and should be dealt with better during busy times. Parking was a bit scarce too. That's it though. I really loved it there. If you're in Benicia on a Friday or Saturday night, you really need to stop by. read more

Poorly managed for live music and the security was overbearing. I was given a warning twice by a security kid. First, the no ball cap policy. Fine. It gives the message that either there had been previous gang issues or that they were trying to convey some air of being upscale. They serve pizza and fries and people are wearing jeans and tshirts, but whatever. No biggie. Then I was also told that I could not have a plastic cup of water on the dance floor. Heaven forbid that an adult stand there with water and watch the band. I guess it's easier to be condescending to adults than to clean a few drops of drinks from the precious dance floor. More than their weird policies, the manager did not know how to host a band. Rules given for the "vip" area include hiding your equipment in the corner so people can't see it when they walk by. Yet there is a curtain. I saw this manager touching musicians guitars and equipment which is totally insulting and unheard of in every single green room I have ever seen over many years. Beyond that I overheard a conversation warning the band that they were too loud and that the police would come by with a decibel meter and shut down the bar. And that he had a decibel meter. What a joke. Again, in my years at clubs, I have never heard of such a thing. Here's a solution, DONT HAVE LIVE MUSIC. The staff was courteous and great otherwise, with the exception of the overbearing security swat force. The manager has to go. If he is the owner, this place is doomed. I'm not sure what was more offensive, his running around, obsessive compulsive micromanagement of the acts, and reprimanding the staff, and enforcing arbitrary policies, or his pungent, cheap cologne as he passed through dozens of times during one set. I will never recommend any of my musician friends to play here. Let people enjoy themselves and be adults and hear music the way God intended. read more

I'm impressed with Rellik Tavern! It's clean (iPads for ordering!), drinks and food are cheap, they occasionally have live bands, and their seating/standing set-up has a lot of variety. They have couches for lounging, taller tables in the back to stand around, a bar to sit at, and a dance floor. The night I went, the Self-Proclaimed Superheroes were playing and I thought they were great! Really entertaining and up-beat. Our group ordered french fries ($4) and the Rellik pizza (large size) and it tasted amazing! It's rare that I go to a bar, and think about the food after the night ends. Everything was so flavorful and the pizza was so cheesy and delicious! Service was great! Despite the crowds, it wasn't difficult to flag someone down to ask for a drink. I'm excited to see that they serve coffee and tea during the day. Definitely will be back to check out the daytime scene and try some more of their food! read more

This is just specifically about the Sunday brunch. I love that they offer this. And done quite well. I really quite like relik overall. Great bar, great service, bar tenders are pros, etc. I appreciated the brunch, but it was quite basic for the price point. I was lookin for some secret sauce that woukd have justified the price, but not really. I was there for a post xmas meet up with a girlfriend visiting home, so it was worth the overall visit, but I thought $19 was out of range for the amount I can eat. (Not the menu's issue) The $10 bottomless mimosa was ok, though I've never really had stellar anywhere I've had mimosas. I would have much preferred to order from the menu perhaps. I don't like giving mediocre reviews to places I like but I wonder if the price point was $16 or $15, if it would be more amenable to the mind so as to make more sales. read more

Decided to check out "Sunday Bloody Sunday" for some much needed recovery this last weekend after a night of tequila sipping. I've lived in Benicia for over 33 years so I like to support the locals when I can. However, my experience on Sunday, August 10th left me feeling disappointed and unappreciated. Came in around 1100a and was not warmly welcomed by any staff member. Maybe 6 people at most sitting at the bar, otherwise place was empty. The bartender (tall dude, facial hair) had the personality of a wet mop and looked miserable like he was hung himself. Even the bar backs gave us attitude when we asked for waters...twice! No table service was offered so my group of 4 had to walk up to the bar to order 4 bloody mary's, which were sub par in taste and quality for the price. I do realize it's well vodka, but the bloody mix did not impress me. What did impress me was the buffet of garnishes available. Celery sticks, celery salt, pepper grinder, peppers, olives, onions, pickled string beans, tobasco and bacon strips?! Very nice and I do appreciate how comfy and clean the place is. It's just a shame that the bartender and backs were super unfriendly. Not once did they bother to ask us how the drinks were, how we were doing, strike up a conversation, etc. Definitely a tip killer boys. Next time I'll plan ahead and host my own bloody mary party at home. I went here during lunch to have a few drinks with friends. The place itself is pretty amazing. If you ever go, just look up. . . the ceiling is dope. Their sound system is top notch and the decor is superb. Way different from the dive that once inhabited this location. The co-owner was super nice and we had a great time there. I'm not sure how the night life is but I know that this is not the type of bar that you would want to go to if you're in your 20s. It's a little more sophisticated and carry more high-end alcohol. (Sorry, no Budweiser.) So if you want to get shit-faced, I suggest heading to the city or head to a club. Otherwise, you'll be disappointed. read more

What an improvement from its older days! As a local I remember the days of The Pastimes and all of its glory...once I walked in to The Relik Tavern, I was blown away by the total change. First and foremost, the bar is impressive...the actual b-a-r. Beautiful wood, great display, it has a real tavern feel to it with a modern vibe as well. Couches line the left wall, each very cozy and a nice break from bar stools or bistro tables. The mixed drink menu is extensive and the bartenders are very knowledgeable and will make anything you ask. The beer selection is top notch as well. In addition to being a great bar, the Rellik is also a great place for coffee on any day of the week. Whether it is a Tuesday morning and you're on your way to work or a Sunday and you need a cuppa joe, the paper and possibly a bloody mary, the couches (again) come in handy. I must say that Sunday Bloody Sunday is probably my favorite "theme" day that The Rellik has...how novel is a "BYOBM" (build your own bloody mary) bar? its amazing. You have your choice of alcohol (vodka, gin, tequila, you name it) and your choice of tomato juice (clamato or regular) and then you build your Mary to your liking. AND, there is a HUGE selection of pickled veggies, celery, BACON (yes BACON) and other little tid bits to put in your Mary. Also, The Rellik has guest dj's weekly, live music weekly and a movie night (with free popcorn) monthly. My wife and I stumbled upon this place by accident. We had made a trip to Benicia (from the Napa Valley) to have an early dinner at Matsuri only to discover that they did not open until 5pm. So we took a little walk down the street for a pre-dinner cocktail. We noticed a new sign out front of the place and people looking inside. So, IN we went. Nice comfortable couches and a nice bar. The decor was simple elegant. We ordered our drinks and had a seat on a couch. We noticed that an area was being set up for music. Fantastic, music was set to start in 30 minutes. A Solo Guitarist. So not only did we get to pass the time in a comfortable setting, we were entertained as well. Drinks are a bit pricey but that is to be expected with the live music. I went back with the girlfriend after not being here in a while. I was happy to find out that they were not playing music loud and had available areas where my lady and I could talk without yelling. Not only was the bartenders and waitstaff prompt and professional but the offerings drink wise were really great and we were both able to get what we wanted. After being there a while we had the cheese platter and it had nice options, I was really happy all the way around. This is my go-to bar when I come back to the Bay Area to visit my family. I used to live in American Canyon where most people go to Applebee's or Napa to drink if not willing to make the trek to San Francisco. Prices are about $10-20 for a drink, give or take, which is what you would expect from a bar that doesn't really have any competition in sleepy Benicia. I've never ordered food here so I can't speak for that. I dislike most clubs. I'm more of a dive bar girl that drinks scotch and always requests a tap list and sometimes I just want to relax. Rellick tavern has the comfort of drinking at home while still being social. The couches, lighting, and television make this a comfortable place to catch up with friends. You can dance if you want to (...you can leave your friends behind...S-S-S-S-A-A-A-A-F-F-F-F-E......), since they have a dance floor area. Also, for a bar in the middle of Benicia, they have an excellent tap list. They even had Allagash! My friends really enjoy the extra smoking room/patio in the back. My very first night at the tavern was super memorable. After being hit on via writing on the back of a receipt and telling him I had a boyfriend, he went back to his friend. When his friend left, I saw a receipt left behind thinking it was the one we conversed on so I decided to look and reread it. Written on back of the receipt were things like, "Why would I talk to you if you have a boyfriend?" "Fuck boyfriends! We don't like them" and other slurs towards me. I placed the receipt on the table and one of the bartenders, Zeth(I think this is right), came over to me and said that he was cutting them off for the night and he was just being a jerk. Around closing time, my friend and I were the only people left in the bar. Since it wasn't super busy, Zeth and Austin finished cleaning and closing up relatively quickly and they asked us to hang out with them at Walmart and get Denny's since there was nothing else to do at 2AM. We went to Walkmart, walked around and looked at things, then we parted ways when our bartenders went to Denny's. Every time after that I always get treated as a friend at the tavern and I always seem to come in when either Zeth or Austin are working. Don't order delivery. We ordered takeout a couple times during Covid and liked the food, but our car is in the shop so we sprung for delivery and after having the takeout food it was night and day. Cold artichoke "dip", undercooked soggy fries (not soggy from delivery, still crunchy in the middle so undercooked) , a $14 French dip that was basically 3 slices of meat on a soft roll and worst of all the one special order we had for my 5yo son who really wanted cheese pizza was a build your own and since you HAVE to select one topping I asked for a little bacon on one side and instead they sent a Cheeseburger pizza. I called to complain, and to her credit the manager asked if they could send a replacement but try telling a 5 year old he has to wait 30 minutes while his older brother is diving in to his food. She stated that nobody there would intentionally mess up an order like that, but I looked at the ticket which clearly stated "Cheese pizza with bacon on the side" and all the other items had checks next to them. So at best they have a quality control issue and at worst their worst employee packing to go orders. Either way, $120 down the drain. read more

Drinks were great, staff was friendly & servers were on point managing food & drink orders for our large, intoxicated group. The live music was awesome & had everyone dancing. HIgh hopes for this place quickly became disappointment. 4 of us sat the the bar mid-day for a drink on opening day. Our first reaction to the place was WOW it looks amazing. Then we started to notice all the ways they were trying way to hard to be hip. The reason places like O'Leary's, The Pastime, and Bottom of the Fifth have lasted so long is that they cater to drinkers and the dark side of Benicia. The Rellik Tavern would fit better in downtown Walnut Creek. A sterile environment full of strangers and enough cougars to stock every zoo in North America. I ordered a beer and the bartender returned twice to ask what I had ordered then couldn't find the beer. They give you a pint glass for your 12oz bottle so it already looks 1/4 empty when you pour it. They screwed up 2 other cocktails we ordered. Our conversation turned into how we would make the bar better. Refurnish with some trendier couches that don't look like Jennifer Convertibles threw up all over the place. Dim the lights. Get a juke box so we listen to what we want and not the awful crap that was piped in. Add a stage in the corner for live music/karaoke/comedy/open mic night. Be more creative. The top tier of the menu should be eliminated and the bottom tier added to. I don't need a $265 bottle of Opus One at a hometown bar. The case of Opus I have at home ran $115 per bottle and I wouldn't pay that much at a bar unless I had a kick ass meal to go with it. Add some great $15-$20 bottles, they do exist. Put some working mans beers on tap. Bud, Coors, whatever. Get staff that love tending bar and waiting tables. Staff that is personable would be a great start. I don't see how The Rellik Tavern will survive if some changes aren't made so the place appeals to the young Benicia drinker and not just the Saturday night cougar. Just one big thing I have a problem with- this is the third time I and my friend have been discriminated against because we look "young"? I suppose? Either way we are treated with a snarky and rude attitude. A lady bartender on this day not only treated my friend like he was a fool for not knowing all the white wines she had available, but she also laughed at drivers license picture. I'm 30 years old. Went to the Rellik Tavern for a friends fundraiser! They hosted a TNT event where they had a silent aution and raffle that benifited LLS and the owners donated 25% off the total before tax for all drinks and food purchased! The event was packed. You could barely get around! they had an amazing turnout. and im not Martini girl, but let me tell you they changed me! I love their martinis! I cant wait to go again! I think it's great to have a local bar/lounge close to my hometown that doesn't require me to cross a bridge/pay toll. Several friends have talked about this place that I had to check it out over the holidays when I was home visiting. My cousins and I spent a chill Monday night at this place and enjoyed ourselves thoroughly. Being a Monday, it wasn't too busy and we scored a couch area near the front door. Its lounge vibe with TVs playing sports was the perfect casual night we were looking for. For the smokers, the outdoor smoke patio is actually enclosed and had heat lamps that kept the cold night air away. Being a fan of mules, I saw they made their own mule concoction. Their specialty drinks in general are on the expensive side for a divey bar in a small town ($8-10). They made the mule with housemade ginger beer, which was good, but it was missing bitters, so it didn't taste quite as I expected. They are known for their cosmos, which I tried and were standard to ones I've tried before. I also tried their caipirinha which was a-ok. I stuck with my usual Jameson/ginger ale at that point. Bartenders were cool, but since the place started getting busy, the two of them seemed a little swamped. We ordered appetizers to munch on and were bummed that they didn't have a couple of the menu items we wanted. I'd definitely stop by again with friends if I was looking for a place close to home with a casual vibe that isn't the usual Applebees/Chevys bar crowd. read more

I love the Rellik Tavern!!!! I went here with a few friends a month ago, the service is great the drinks are really tasty and priced well and you can order from Randy's and eat it inside!!!! YUM! There are over 30 different types of beer. There is a bunch of different Martini's and it is a super chill vibe. For those looking for a younger crowd you should go to the city...maybe Kitty nights is a better place for you. The Relick Tavern in Benicia is a great place to enjoy a drink and relax. I love the couches and the bar is very nice. It has just the right amount of TVs and I like the brick walls with the decor. I live in Walnut Creek but head for Benicia for dinner about once a month. I always head for the Relick after to enjoy a few drinks, a game and sometimes live music. The times I've been there the live band played mostly blues and some rock n roll. The Relick Tavern seems to draw a mixed crowd with a lot of locals. By the way, I enjoy the Belgium beer Chimay on tap. Have about 10-15 beers on tap, variety of wine and a good selection of top shelf drinks. My Last visit to my local water hole was a lot more pleasant than the last. The good thing is that you talk to the right people and they listen to your comments. I do like there Blue Moon Draft very good indeed. read more
