Super great waterfront restaurant! The restaurant itself is beautiful, although it wasn't quite as waterfront and view-esque as I expected from the pictures. The front end of the restaurant feels more like a bar, while the back end is a bit more of a formal dining space. The pasta was all really good, so I have only positive things to say about the food. Their cocktails were also really good. I can't quite remember the name of the drink I got, but I think it was Birds of Paradise or Paradise Fruits of Paradise. It's the orange and green drink in my photos with the ombre effect. That one was delicious and I highly, highly, highly recommend it! The staff were also very nice and accommodating. We didn't like one of the drinks, so we sent it back and they brought out another one that my table really liked. One of the servers even came over and let my brother know that it's completely okay to ask for a drink to be changed if you don't like it, which I really appreciated. Some places can make you feel bad about asking, and we almost never ask for adjustments because we feel like we ordered it, so I genuinely appreciated her kindness and the fact that she went out of her way to give my brother some confidence about it. Shout out to Michelle who apparently was working on her birthday and acknowledged us after we tried flagging someone down for almost 2 hours for a drink. It was a very busy evening and extremely chaotic. There was a private event for a birthday in a separate room, the bar area, and another room where there was a jazz event going on where our party was located. We were 4 people from a party of 20. Because there were several guests already at the table we were opposite ends of the table. They managed to skip both our food and drink orders, 2 out of the 4 of us were seated the entire time and just blatantly ignored while the other 2 tried to find anyone who would take a drink order. The 2 waitresses tending to our area passed us several times even the couple times we tried to physically waive them down, and when they did briefly make eye contact a couple times, it was just a very quick smile as they immediately turned away to take care of something else. They skipped us when taking the food order (literally watched them take the food order of the other guests at our table and simply walk away without taking ours, and every time they passed by still wouldn't acknowledge us as they were clearly slammed and trying to deal with the massive crowd. While we waited at the bar after almost 2 hours of not being able to get a drink, we overheard multiple staff members voice how frustrated and overwhelmed they were. It's a shame because the menu looked good and the other guests were nice and the staff were cordial. I'm sure on a slow day it's great, but we ended up having to leave and go to Olive Garden because our elderly guest's blood sugar was beginning to drop and no one was trying to take her food order. read more

I live in Vallejo Heights up the hill from Zio Fraedos & used to come every other week. A few years back they stopped carrying my favorite: Eggplant Parmigiana despite my request to continue. When I was with a banquet group 2 years ago, I again requested inclusion of Eggplant Parmigiana to no avail. The main reason for 2 star D- rating is my experience this past Mother's Day. I was again with a banquet Mother's Day group, same group of people as before. The salmon was a bit above adequate & the service was OK. The salad was decent but again a skimpy amount. I made the best of their dessert choices as they didn't have any of my favorites. What I really didn't like was the exorbitant price: our bills were $84.00 each for a chintzy amount of adequate food! They might as well have said, "This is a stick Up!" Their priority is clearly profit over & beyond Excellence & Quality. As I don't eat a big amount, I typically have left overs to take. Not so here. They gave the bare minimum per quantity, we had to negotiate practically to get enough bread! Bread! We'll guess what. They won't be getting any more of my "bread" and in fact I'll encourage the organizers of the family to pick somewhere else next time with a more reasonable cost or at least commensurate quality for the price. Service was pretty good. The hostess at the front was overly nice. I cant explain it. It didnt feel authentic at all or perhaps that is how she is, but it was quite different. Our server was nice. Made good suggestions. I ordered the scallops and my mother had the Mahi Mahi. I forgot to take pictures of our entrées. I did not like the clam chowder. My mother ate hers and said it was "ok" The breading from the calamari kept falling off. I would have preferred that it was fried harder because the squid just felt uncooked in my mouth. I really enjoyed my scallops and the roasted vegetables that came with it. Well prepared and fresh. My mother did not finish her entrée. She felt that the Mahi Mahi was too salty. However, she had given up salty foods for awhile so it is more than likely a change in palate for her. They were out of creme brulee so we skipped on dessert. Very nice view. Location was good. Pretty dated on the inside. Everything is probably from when the place originally opened. Staff was good. Place seemed to be a spot for locals to hangout and get their evening gossip & drinks on. Food was pretty average. We got the fried ravioli thinking it would be amazing. But it was underwhelming and super thick. I got the Filet Mignon and it felt like it was loaded with salt. New to Vallejo area. I want to see this place get back to pre pandemic volumes. I felt at home with the locals who come here regularly. It is definitely a place that feels like an easy way to end a long work day. Happy hour menu is nice . But the staff and a chance to relax is the best. Parking is easy and off the street. Very private location near the marina but not at the ferry building. They get extra points for having Blue Moon on tap and super cold. My experience at Zio Fraedo's was great on all fronts. My family hosted an event three years ago, and we rented out the back half of the restaurant. The staff were extremely attentive and not once did we ever see an empty tray of food or empty cup. The venue itself was also accommodating with regard to accessibility needs as many of our older guests needed help navigating the space. All the chairs were covered in old cobwebs as well as the table legs. The waitress was so nice and attentive; However, the place was pretty deserted (aside from the bar full of regulars as the afternoon wore on), so I think she enjoyed our groups company. She joked with us and checked in often. We had fun cocktail drinks, which were delicious and colorful. A variety of food was ordered and while all delicious, every pasta dish was overly oily. Appetizers: The calamari was perfectly fried. The bruchetta was the best appetizer, was SO small, did not expect such little one bite pieces. The prawns in the cocktail were extremely fresh and nicely chilled but way more cocktail sauce than you need. Mains: The spicy chicken pasta dish was good, chicken had great grilled flavor, and the sauce had a good consistency but zero spiciness and very oily. The shrimp and chicken carbonara also amazing with plenty of chicken and shrimp but again oily. Pesto Gnocchi was fluffy and delicious, can't mess that up honestly. While we had a decent time, the prices are very high and you can tell that the place just isn't maintained. Would be nice to see new clean comfy patio furniture and deck brushed off of debri and bar stools inside replaced. One order was pesto pasta with grilled salmon on top, another was drinks only as we missed the kitchen closing by minutes. The to go order was a tomato and burrata salad and I added grilled salmon. Light, satisfying and delicious. I feel the menu can be modified a bit. They still serve entrees with rice pilaf as the only option. You don't see rice pilaf too much anymore. It's a little boring. Aside from that the food is great. Service 5/5 Every server we've had has demonstrated excellent customer service and appears to enjoy what they do. Food is very good surprisingly. Really enjoyed the toasted ravioli, bruschetta, and calamari apps. Ordered the ribeye for my main dish and it was pretty good. Came.with fluffy mash potatoes and steamed veggies. Restaurant is located near the water and has a very nice drive up and view from the outside. Fairly small parking lot but you can find parking across the street easily. Only gripe would be the cleanliness of the restaurant and the service. We came with a fairly large party but right after opening and it still took us a while to get our food. Oddly enough one order was delayed in our group and it was a salad. I went to to Zio Freado's today for Mother's Day, and I ordered the halibut with rice and vegetables which I substituted the rice and vegetables for mashed potatoes and vegetables. When I got the meal, the fish was overdone, so I sent it back to the kitchen and what they sent back was a raw piece of meat at that point I was very upset. it was a set meal and part of the meal was a dessert. I ordered the crème brûlée. When that came, there was no crème brûlée. It was just a piece of burnt sugar with a 16th of a inch layer of crème brûlée below the burnt piece of sugar. The crème brûlée, what little there was of it was runny.......I've been going to Zio Fraedo's for years and never experienced anything like this. The quality of food is just went down. I'm thinking they must just get it out of a bag now. I'll never go back to this place again. It was literally horrible. read more

I can't believe I found this little hidden gem. Let's start, I'd really give this place 4.5 based upon the service we received. They have it decorated really cute for the holiday. The fried Ravioli was good, if you've eaten at Paesano's it's not as good but it is a really good follow up. Beautiful place for private events! I had been coming to Zio Fraedo's for years for past coworker reunions, retirement parties, jazz choir concerts and happy hours. They always do a great job with events as they have a big private room with a ton of windows overlooking the harbor, attentive service and tasty Italian food. My parents wanted to throw a post wedding reception lunch with their friends and some of our family so we were finally able to do it this past weekend. My parents had said Zio Fraedo's staff were wonderful to work with. The owner Sherry Loforte (who is Filipina- yay!) was really nice and offered a complimentary lunch tasting, recommendations on decorators, and allowed us to bring in our own flower center pieces and cookie party favors. The event itself went really well and was very timely. Ambiance was simply elegant and we took a ton of photos. The awesome bartenders (Sarah and Michelle) even gave my hubs and I complimentary wedding shots! One thing I would recommend is to have more protein-heavy vegan options, but the overall fare was fresh and high quality. Wow! What a difference 15 years makes. Great service from the moment we were greeted at the podium to the "have a great day and thank you" when we left. Yes, every detail is noticed and appreciated. We opted to eat inside since the only seat left outside was mostly in the direct sun. We sat at a booth across from the bar with a great picture window with a view of the parking lot and the beautiful hills. (A few planters in the small patio in front of the window would make for a beautiful sight). Our server was very attentive in taking our orders. She told us that the mussels and clams were out of mussels, but then later told us that a fresh shipment of mussels had been delivered and she made sure we got them in our order. Let me tell you, usually the clams have just a wee nugget of meat inside. Not so with this dish. Big plump clams that gave the mussels a run for their money. The broth was rich and delicious. And on top of everything, was a MOUND of chopped clams. Do not sleep on this dish, it is fire and worth every penny. We decided to share the vegetarian sandwich which came with your choice of fried, onion rings or side salad (maybe coleslaw too, I might have slept through that). I opted for the onion rings and they did not disappoint. They were batter fried, crispy and delicious. The sandwich was filled with veggies and cheese and was perfect. I also had the clam chowder and it was just the way I like it. Original. Nothing extra added. No extra herbs. Just old school and perfect. My companion and I enjoyed our lunch. My family and I felt extremely discriminated, judged, accused of not paying and embarrassed by the woman in the picture. She might be the owner. We are a group of 4 adults and 2 small kids. one is 2 years old and the other one 4 years old. As soon as we walked into the restaurant the woman tells us that there will be a 20% tip added to our table. Whatever. We just wanted to celebrate Father's Day. The worse part is when we were leaving the restaurant. Our total with the already added 20% tip was $163.33 as shown in the picture. We left $170 cash. Right when we were leaving the woman comes outside yelling at us rudely and accusing us that we had not left enough to cover our bill. She is holding $170 cash as shown in the picture. 1. $100 bill 1. $50 bill and 1 $20 bill. I was confused and embarrassed. I immediately apologized and I was about to give more Money so I double checked the bill and saw that she was wrong. When we confronted her, she just said that she had not seen it properly. No apologize or anything. She just went back to her restaurant and locked her door and told me to leave because it was private property. This is not the first time we get horrible service from this person. We only went here this time because the other restaurant by the ferry terminal was busy and this one was empty.
