Starting off, it was a little difficult to work with The Rental Place specifically in Fort Bragg (not this page) but that partially was due to my miscommunication and how it wasn't as easy to communicate with them via email (phone is best we learned). And their website doesn't have photos of all of their products so trying to get an idea of what kind of linen colors they had online was difficult. After communicating with Chris (Rohnert Park) and requesting a color pallet via email, it was easy to see what they had in stock. I got married in Gualala on Sept. 28 and initially placed an order for rentals in the Fort Bragg location. After reconsidering, we switched to the Sebastopol location since that's where we were initially based, therefore causing some confusion but ultimately it all worked out! Working with Chris was easy and he was very helpful getting everything ready for us. We asked to pick up on Thursday before the wedding and return the Monday afterwards which they were very willing to do! I was very happy that they worked with our schedule and even let us pick up part of the order the Wednesday before. We ordered chairs, cocktail tables, linens, silverware, and glassware for a very reasonable price. Andrew in Sebastopol was kind and generous, especially working with our altered schedule. The chairs were a little beat up but that's what you can expect from a rental place. They didn't have the exact color we initially wanted but were happy with the dark mahogany vs the natural wood (only available in Fort Bragg). They are chairs after all so it didn't bother us. Returning the rentals was easy and we were only charged for the few glasses which broke (makes sense). I would recommend working with the Rental Place again! read more

I just finished renting a high weed mower to mow my 2 acres. The machine was tight, perfectly tuned so it started on the first pull every time, or after 1 choke pull, and ran smoothly. The blade was good and sharp and set at the perfect height for my job (2 acres, thick high grasses). Fast service loading and unloading. Don't use this rental company! I rented 2, 6 ft. long tables a month before they were needed on Thanksgiving. When I arrived at 8am the day before Thanksgiving the worker said they only had 1 table available. He explained how someone had just come in and rented a bunch of them! Every time we have rented from this place, the rentals have been filthy and/or broken. The Uhaul we rented was covered in a sticky material and the muffler was broken so it was very loud to drive. The tables we have rented are covered in dirt and dust and one was missing a screw. One day rentals must be returned by 8 am the next business day or you have to pay for a two day rental. I have used this place for different things. Yesterday we had a pellet stove spew smoke in our home. The house treated of smoke and didn't air out. I called Patrick and Brandon at the Rental place and they said we got the perfect thing, the Ozone air purifier. I went right there, they had it ready and explained how to use it. They were exact on the use, and no more smoke smell. All fine in less than 24 hours. Brought it back. Check in and check out we're easy. Price was good. They were so professional and friendly. Rented a uhaul on line to pickup up at this yard. They just needed to give keys to truck. Everything was done on line. They went in and canceled reservation. Canceled hand truck pads even the movers we hired thru uhaul and told us we had no reservation for anything but truck. LIARS.We had it printed out. There yard guy tried to give my wife a appliance dolly with the strap broke in two. She that won't work so he told her she could just carry the stuff then. This place is full of the most rude uncouth people we have ever dealt with. We have filed a complaint with uhaul after they spent 45 minutes fixing the mess this outfit made. Place is a dump. Awesome awesome awesome place!! The people that work at The Rental Place are seriously great at customer service, especially over the phone. We hired string lights, extension cords and two generators from the Rental Place this passed weekend for a few added requirements for our outdoor wedding in Sonoma. They were super life savers, as they were always on top of things and really came through with some great advice. Never cheated us out of a penny and are super cost-effective. The lights cost $25 / day, the generator was around $50/day - compared to the party rental places in the area, these are super affordable prices for a diy party!!! They have everything you need + great customer service. Highly recommend working with them for future events big & small. read more

I've rented from The Rental Place many, many times over the past 25 years. I live only 2 miles away so it's very convenient. The other day I rented a heavy duty diaphragm pump so I could pump the remaining sludge out of my swimming pool that had been defunct for more than ten years, so I could get it repaired. Something was wrong with the pump and it looked like it was going to be a big hassle and waste of time. I called The Rental Place and Brandon provided excellent customer service. He called another of their stores and found a replacement; he delivered it to my job site and took the other one back. All done with a smile and a great attitude. The equipment I rented came with the wrong fittings, which delayed my job at customer site. This was heavy machinery, leaking oil, ragged, hydraulic leaks on the tractor tracks which made the unit move on its own; this is unsafe and obviously poorly maintained. The trailer had a flat tire, and the electrics did not work because they did not have the adapters to fit my rig. The staff failed to properly secure all the equipment to the trailer, had to do it myself. They did offer a 10% reduction on the bill, which didn't cover the 45 minutes of lost time at job site. It's cute to rent local, but when local equals unsafe and unprofessional, move up to people who are in the business for real. read more

Will never rent here again. From party rentals to brush chippers. They don't maintain or clean their equipment. Rented cotton candy machine was clogged so much I had to clean it before I got it to make any cotton candy. Rented a brush chipper with dull blades for a 400 dollars and was a pain in the ass dealing with company. Told myself years ago I would never rent from them. Had to use them the other day because I was in a pinch and still to this day I recommend anyone to go to ACTION RENTS OR ENCORE PARTY RENTAL. Stay the heck away. We live around the corner from the Sebastopol branch and we have always had a good experience. We need to rent tractors to maintain our property and they have always been accommodated appropriately. Even though I'm having a party right in Sebastopol less than a mile from this rental company, I've decided to go with the Santa Rosa Party Rental instead. The Rental place wants to charge me $80 deliver/pickup for going a short distance. SRPR is only charging $60 for a 20+minute commute. Also everything that the Rental Place quoted me was $10-$20 more. Steer clear of this place when renting a U Haul truck. I followed all instructions, filled the tank to the level requested and got charged for being short 2 gallons @ $4+ per gallon. Whoever was checking the truck in was incompetent, and the manager was unable to provide basic customer service skills. The place is filled with unprofessional people working there. Yes their equipment is starting to age a bit. All and all this is a great rental yard. If some thing brakes they do their best to make it right (drive out a replacement discount the price ect.). I rented a trailer and it came with a bald tire, banged up gate and dysfunctional hinges. When I returned it after an hour, I asked for the hourly rate. I was told that they only charge for the day because it takes time to hook it up..... like 2 minutes! I'll look for a better product elsewhere! read more

This place has the worst equipment and poor customer service. We had them deliver Tables, chairs and a BBQ for a 4th of July block party. They came Monday afternoon on July 3, 2017. The employee dropped off the items and checked in with me to sign paper for rental and then took off before checking back in with me. When I went to see what was delivered I noticed a very old rusted out BBQ with a hole in the bottom of the BBQ and a very rusted grill with one of the legs broken and about to fall off. I called and asked for a new grill and They refused to pick it up and deliver a new one, so my husband had to drive from Bodega Bay to Sebasapole to drop off old rusty one and get a different BBQ. The guy who delivered to our house told my husband that he wouldn't cook on it either. I called to see if I was still getting a credit for BBQ and got the run around and called 4 times and was told they can't do anything and would talk to Chris the owners son. I asked when I would hear back and they said they were busy and did not know. I WOULD. NEVER USE THE RENTAL PLACE AGAIN AND WILL MAKE SURE NO ONE IN BODEGA BAY DOES EITHER. We contracted with The Rental Place for our August wedding. We were told that they would deliver our rentals on Friday afternoon at 3:00, and we scheduled our day accordingly. (Our contract and correspondence states this 3:00 delivery, and at NO POINT was any mention made or written of a two-hour delivery window, as they later tried to tell us.) At 5:30 we were starting our wedding rehearsal in a panic since our rehearsal dinner was predicated upon having the chairs, tables, and heaters arrive at 3:00. The guy arrived at 5:30 and was incredibly surly. No apology, just mumbling that he guessed he was supposed to be here earlier (2.5 hours earlier, in fact). We threw up our hands and went back to our wedding rehearsal, while he piled up our rentals next to a tree and sped off without a word to anyone, apparently with a parting rude gesture according to an eye-witness. We then discover that the heaters we had rented were missing crucial pieces. They didn't work, and our guests froze that night at the rehearsal dinner. I won't get into a protracted description of the various ways they screwed us. Thanks to our lovely venue manager's intervention, they did come back the next day to deliver the heaters' missing parts. However, they then charged us for the heaters even though they were useless for exactly one third of the time we had them, and then charged us extra for leaving the rentals inside by a door (broken down, packed away, and neatly stacked) rather than piled up outside 30 yards away. Mind you--the delivery guy left without speaking to us, so we had zero instructions about where to leave them. We ended up with extra charges for appalling service, and the kicker is that the rentals themselves are pretty pitiful--ratty, snagged linens, super flimsy chairs. I spoke with Mike a few days after the wedding to see if he would at least knock off some of the delivery fees. I expressed how distressed we had been by the delivery guy's late arrival and rudeness on Friday, and how much it sucked to have non-functional heaters that night. He blustered about how "his guy would never do that," and then blew off the heater issue by saying that he thought the wedding was on Saturday. Yes, the wedding was on Saturday, but the rehearsal dinner was on Friday. The rental period is three days; when we choose to use the rentals within that period is immaterial. Then he claimed he would look into it and get back to me, and never did. If you're planning a shindig, this is not the kind of thing you want to deal with. It may seem like they are the only option for miles, but look elsewhere. Aaction Rentals in Santa Rosa is supposed to be really good. read more

I've rented from this place three times now and I've had pretty good results so far. I tend do a lot of shopping around and their prices seem to be very on point. 2 of the 3 times I called them they had the cheapest prices, and the other time it was nice because I could pick up a truck at 1 of the locations and drop off at the other, made it easier than having to go far to return a truck. Employees seemed nice. Docked 1 star because I did have to wait around on pickup and dropoff even though it was all prearranged pretty much every time I've got there, only a few minutes, but still. read more

We reserved a 4" Chipper ahead of time to make sure we had it when our Weekend came to chip a huge pile of mixed trees which included Oak, Redwood, Pine, Fir & Cypress. I was always concerned after reading about the Echo Bobcat 4" Chipper online that it would be capable of doing the job productively with minimum effort on our part as this project would take most of the day. My concerns were realized shortly after we brought the machine home, set-it-up and began chipping. The Chipper clogged numerous times as well as the Chute prompting a phone call to the Sebastopol Store. This is where they get a 5-Star Rating! Sheila took my call, listen to my problem and then put me in touch with Chris, who was the Manager at the Rohnert Park Branch. Chris offered up a possible adjustment solution, which I did and the machine still would not function properly causing us grief as we had to get this Project completed that day. After calling Chris back and explaining the situation, he called the Sebastopol Store and directed them to send out the 10" Professional Rated Unit. Brandon delivered it, set-it-up and took the 4" Unit back. We resumed chipping and the 10" Chipper performed incredibly, enabling us to do 4 times the work in 1/2 the time. We completed the work ahead of schedule and Brandon came back and took the Chipper back. The upcharge was more then fair as we expected to be charged for the larger Chipper. Go with the 10" Chipper as the 4" can struggle if you have a big job to do. We strongly recommend using The Rental Place for all of your rental needs. read more

When we returned our generator (wish was not the one I specifically asked for) the man behind the counter was short with me as soon as I walked in and said hello. He gave us a good scolding for not bringing the generator back full of gas. We weren't told at pick up it was supposed to be refilled, 3 other times we've rented there was no issue, and there is no mention of refill in their contracts. Don't be a jerk because your expectations were not clearly set forth before rental. Unpleasant, wouldn't recommend I'll go out of my way for the generator next time. read more

Disappointing. One broken table, broken umbrella, wrong tablecloths delivered. Glad we got everything the day before our event so we had time to figure out what didn't work. We prefer to use local businesses whenever we can, but would be reluctant to work with them again because it's very stressful putting on an event and having to deal with broken equipment. Please, Rental Place, pay closer attention to the details -- they can make or brake an event and your reputation. They did deliver a replacement table, but we were lucky that we decided to set up the day before the event, otherwise we would have been short a table for our event. They need quality control so that they don't deliver equipment that doesn't work or needs to be replaced. read more

I went online looking to rent a 10-foot Uhaul truck to move some cubbies for church. The only Uhaul place around that had a 10-foot truck that day was The Rental Place in Sebastopol. When I got there the staff was very off-task, wandering around, talking about lunch. It took them a few minutes to find my reservation, and several more to actually understand i had rented a 10-foot truck. After I had been there about ten minutes the lady working there (the only one who seemed to know how to actually check a reservation) asked if I'd reserved the truck online. I said I had, at which point she informed me that their online reservation system will allow you to reserve trucks they don't actually have, so there was in fact no 10-foot truck available. They offered me a cargo van which was much to small-even then they were rude and slow to respond to my questions, I asked what the dimensions of the cargo van were and the lady says well we have a measuring tape you could measure it and then went back to another customer. The guy who had been helping me said "uh so that's not gonna work for you?" To which I responded "I don't know, I have no idea how big it is! Will it hold something that is 7' by 10'?" He went outside and measured it (taking several more minutes to do so) then cane back in and said it was 9' by 5'. And that was it, no apology, no attempt to make it right. They just left me high and dry and went on to the next customer. It was insanely rude and just outrageous, I can't believe they are even allowed to rent out trucks if this is their system. I ended up calling around to all the other Uhaul rental places. Finally the one on Santa Rosa Avenue-the Obrien would usually have gone to- said they did not have any in stock they would check the computer to see if any other local Uhaul did, then informed me when one would be available and offered to reserve it for me at another Uhaul (great, professional customer service). read more
