1 STAR -- Extremely Disappointing Experience…read more Absolutely horrible experience at the REI bike shop. I brought in my own wheel to have a hub swapped, and I was initially quoted $140 for the job. I received an email saying the wheel would be ready in four days, so I waited. Four days came and went -- nothing. After I reached out, I finally received a call two days later telling me they hadn't even started the work and that the price was now going to be another $100 for spokes. That was completely unacceptable. I already had access to the correct spokes for around $20. If there was going to be an additional charge, that should have been communicated clearly before taking the job and making me wait nearly a week. Then, two days later, I get another call saying the wheel is ready. Except it wasn't really "ready." They essentially built the wheel and handed it back bare bones -- no tire installed, no cassette installed, and no rotor installed. And here's the part that really irritated me: they wanted to charge me another hour of labor just to install the cassette. We're talking about installing a cassette onto the freehub -- something that takes minutes. I was honestly shocked. I've used this same REI bike shop in the past for a similar wheel build, and the experience was completely different. A few years ago, I paid around $140, and the wheel was properly put together without all of these additional charges and headaches. This time, the whole experience felt like they were looking for every possible opportunity to add another charge instead of actually helping the customer. The lack of communication was just as frustrating as the pricing. To make matters worse, I was asked to sign a release of liability essentially because I didn't pay extra for them to install the tire and cassette. At that point, I couldn't help but feel like the entire experience had become ridiculous. A bike shop should make things easier for the customer, not turn a straightforward repair into a series of unexpected charges and delays. I won't be returning to this location. After being a previous customer, I expected much better. Extremely disappointed and definitely not the level of service I expected from REI.

And their website doesn't have photos of all of their products so trying to get an idea of what kind of linen colors they had online was difficult. After communicating with Chris (Rohnert Park) and requesting a color pallet via email, it was easy to see what they had in stock. I got married in Gualala on Sept. 28 and initially placed an order for rentals in the Fort Bragg location. After reconsidering, we switched to the Sebastopol location since that's where we were initially based, therefore causing some confusion but ultimately it all worked out! Working with Chris was easy and he was very helpful getting everything ready for us. We asked to pick up on Thursday before the wedding and return the Monday afterwards which they were very willing to do! I was very happy that they worked with our schedule and even let us pick up part of the order the Wednesday before. We ordered chairs, cocktail tables, linens, silverware, and glassware for a very reasonable price. Andrew in Sebastopol was kind and generous, especially working with our altered schedule. The chairs were a little beat up but that's what you can expect from a rental place. They didn't have the exact color we initially wanted but were happy with the dark mahogany vs the natural wood (only available in Fort Bragg). They are chairs after all so it didn't bother us. Returning the rentals was easy and we were only charged for the few glasses which broke (makes sense). I would recommend working with the Rental Place again!
