Just found this newly opened place off Ronald Regan parkway. Really enjoyed the happy hour and food. We had a mix of taco's to share and a great different artichoke dip. The atmosphere is nice, and the seating is comfortable, but unfortunately, the quality of the kitchen does not match. The food was absolutely terrible. The trio dip tasted like barely reheated prepackaged garbage, and the flatbread was a chewy premade pita that had been microwaved too long. This place seems to be surviving solely due to the lack of local competition so far. Another plus is that it is accessible and the front of the house staff was nice. Please get a new chef or buy better ingredients before the rest of the locals figure it out. read more

We have eaten here twice now. The first time we had a good experience but the most recent left a lot to be desired. We ordered the steak nachos ( waiter's recommendation). We get them and they are pork. He comes by asks if everything turned out we mention the error and he seems very concerned and offers to bring us the steak (we assume he means steak nachos) but instead we get a little tiny cup of steak about 15 mins later. A little odd but ok. Then we order a soup to go. The soup serving was so small. I am guessing about a literal cup. They forgot the tortilla strips too. Additionally there is a safety concern with the patio. The gate does not latch and leads right to the parking lot. Watch your kids closely if sitting outside. If you are a salt addict, this restaurant is your mothership. Chips & salsa? Too much salt on what were perfectly fried chips. Can't taste the salsa. Or the guacamole. Or the queso. My family and I ate here on Friday. The food was good. I had the special which was a fish. My husband had a shrimp po boy. The kids had chicken strips and mac n cheese. The beers were good and cold. I love how they bring the beer in icy glasses. We chose to sit outside but soon discovered the flies were way too many to be able to eat in peace. Just arrived from California to visit our daughters and decided to try this place. Sadly, I was very disappointed with the poor service. We sat down and waited twenty minutes before anyone came to our table. There was no sense of urgency with the staff and they were not busy. When the waiter finally came to our table to give us water we decided to leave as we were not happy with the service or menu items. No plans to come back to this establishment. The Republic is another fine establishment that opened up here in the far north. As an aside, I used to refer to my "hood" as the great white north but was told by a pal that I should not use that term. I believe these are the same owners as the Foxhole and there are similarities such as excellent service, a diverse menu, and a very good assortment of beer and liquor. We arrived during their happy hour(s), which have very good cocktail and food specials. We were immediately impressed with their Covid protocols. Their games are removed and there is ample spacing between tables (except at the bar). All employees are wearing masks and they do a thorough job cleaning the tables and chairs before the next guests are seated. Their specialty drinks and food all have Texas themed names like the Republic Rita (Plus 1s Fav) and the Come Taste It Old Fashioned (My Fav). I did like that I bumped up Rye choice to a very good Rye for an additional Fifty Cents! We started with Mesquite Smoked Brussels which served with goat cheese, apple slices, pecans, and cilantro. Nice way to start. I had their Steak,, excuse me Vaquero steak salad. This was a healthy portion and it reminded me of the steak salad at Foxhole. Plus 1 ordered the pan seared chicken. Her chicken arrived on a bed of chimichurri rice and a side of charro beans. Check out their online menu as there was a lot going on (in a good way) with our entrees. Regarding the venue; there is a patio that overlooks Ronald Regan Blvd and it looked too hot to be comfortable. There are TVs scattered throughout leftovers from the former owners. I can imagine that the Republic will be back to being extremely busy as the restrictions are lifted. This is an excellent venue for happy hour, catching a game, and of course some fine dining. Checked out the Republic Kitchen for the first time tonight and it was a great experience! Delane took care of us and he has a great energy! Thank you Delane for making us feel so welcome and taking such great care of us! The restaurant is very cool inside with a bar, lots of TVs, beautiful leather barstools and wood/steel panel walls. We had the bomb Brussel sprouts , perfectly roasted! Our party enjoyed chicken fried steak that was delicious, burgers, grilled chicken and a grilled chicken sandwich. A pleasant surprise... A neighborhood bar tucked away off of Ronald Reagan Blvd. Service was outstanding, drinks were good - Had two appetizers... The poppers which they called her to Texas on horseback were very flavorful and tasty - The brussels sprouts were a big disappointment. My only complaint has to do with how they presented the bill for the alcohol. I ordered a shot of whiskey, neat - and when I got my bill, it was the charge for the whiskey, and then a two dollar charge for making it neat. The manager explained it was a ounce and a half shot, and anytime someone order something neat, they add a half an ounce - and put a charge on the ticket for the additional alcohol. My colleague ordered a shot on the rocks, and was surprised when he was charged four dollars for the ice - similar story... The charge really isn't for the ice, but the additional alcohol. If the manager have not explained it, I would've never come back... You don't nickel and dime the bar patrons like that - we were complaining to our server, and he begged us to talk to management (obviously the server knew what was going on and trying to wake somebody up) Pre-Covid it appeared the head game tables and other fun stuff going on, but that's all been put away for the time being. Fun atmosphere, has a patio that looks inviting on a cooler day. Overall, I will come back... But will need to see clarity on how they're gonna charge me for my whiskey. read more

Very beautiful restaurant, great atmosphere and the service was great! Started off with 2 frozen margaritas, not very flavorful, had to ask for extra limes to try and help it. For starters, we went with the Texas Trio, guacamole, salsa and queso. I had the Roasted Cornish Hen and my beautiful wife had the Chicken Fried Steak. Roasted Cornish Hen had no flavor, it looked like it was deep fried instead of roasted. Luckily the risotto and the bacon wrapped asparagus was amazing! My wife thought the asparagus was too greasy, I don't know, I enjoyed them but if your thinking getting the whole hen, it's half. My wife's Chicken Fried Steak was a like a hamburger patty, deep fried and covered in gravy. Very tuff and chewy, she did not enjoy her meal at all. Although her mashed potatoes were very tasty, there was a huge temperature issue with them. Hot under the meat, cold on the outside of the plate. I tried my best to like this restaurant. Food is a hit or miss, drinks are on point. What irks me the most is the service or lack there of. It's very unusual for a neighborhood restaurant to have an owner/hostess that is unfriendly, inattentive and downright rude to the guests. They have a nice patio area, but it often times closed and they will not offer service. My advice to the owners is, if customer friendliness is not your forte, don't be that welcoming face or act as a hostess. And I get it, you may be short on staff or otherwise but making a small gesture or an effort to be courteous and accommodating will earn you good patrons. Was coming 3x a month, won't be back unless book club requires it a couple of times a year. Also my $14 3 sliders had black buns and no flavor. What, what? Super tasty food from a great restaurant right in Leander? You betcha! Here's the scoop: -The menu is great. It has Texas favorites but done in a more upscale and modern way. They have King Ranch Casserole but now with quail. Chicken fried steak but with new fun veggie sides. The burgers are made with short rib beef for an extra great flavor. It's neat having a new twist on old favorites. We tried these 3 items and loved them all. Delish! -The queso blanco here is AMAZING! Like it's the best queso I think I've ever had. It was super thick and creamy. It comes with a chipotle drizzle that is delightfully spicy and sweet. It's even a decent size serving too. We had to get a chip refill to finish it all off. On a side note, if you get the tater tots, you MUST dip them in the queso. They are sooooo good like that! -They have a great selection of beer on tap. Lots of local favorites too. Warning though, if you order the big glass, it comes in a weird square shaped extremely heavy goblet. It's hard to drink out of and spills easily. -The kids menu is full of very kid friendly food. Let me tell you how nice it is to go to a restaurant where there is great food for the adults, as well as food to please picky kids! Thank you from a hungry momma! -The wait staff is very nice. Everyone we had contact with was friendly and helpful. Yay for great customer service. -There's a shuffleboard table in the waiting area. It's worth a trek out here for some yummy food. What could be a bit better: -We had to wait almost an hour for a table. It's fine if it's obvious that the place is packed. I did notice that tables would leave but would take a really long time to get bussed and reset. I'm talking they would sit dirty for a good 10 minutes or more. They looked well staffed, so I'm not sure what was going on the day we were there. -It's definitely on the pricey side. It's not crazy expensive, but more than your regular local casual restaurant. -Ditch the weird heavy beer glasses. They really are hard to drink out of. Yes they look cool, but totally impractical, in my opinion. -The metal chairs are super uncomfortable. The look is great, but your butt, at least mine, got tired of the hard metal really quick. -I have a feeling this place will always be busy and a big hit for the area. With that being said, a few more seats in the waiting area would be great. Overall, I really like this place. It's a great addition to the area. It was Ladies Night Happy Hour for our group. They don't take reservations so I decided to help out our hostess for the evening and get here early to save a table. I snagged us a high top for our group of ten. I have to admit the staff was extremely helpful from the hostess, waiter, manager to the owner. They added the extra chairs needed and table was set with silverware and menus before the rest arrived. We ordered drinks as each of the ladies came in. We held off ordering food until 8 of us were there, the last two came late. Of course, I got my usual vodka martini a little dirty. It was good and olives fresh. A popular drink in our group was the Texas Two Step which is half frozen Rita and half sangria. Then the fun began of ordering food. It is definitely a Tex-Mex menu with most dishes having avocado or chili peppers in them. I am not a fan of either one. Settling on the Wrangler Patty Melt, it did have poblano on it. It wasn't bad. The beef patty was smaller than the bread it was served on. The grilled onions were so delicious and just enough cheese. It was supposed to have jalapeno popper mousse on it but I couldn't taste it. Please keep in kind none of the sandwiches come with a side. I managed to snag an onion ring, these are real good. The Patty Melt was flavorsome but not worth $10.95. Listening to the ladies around the table there were missing items. The nachos didn't have any jalapenos, the salad was short the gorgonzola cheese and the dressing that was asked for on the side was on top and stingy. A few others had complaints on their food. Doubt I will be back as its a bit of a drive to get to and nothing really interest me on the menu. read more

We had chicken fried steak and the chicken sandwich. Both very good! Pictured is a yummy dessert! A brownie on top of graham cracker crumbs topped with a toasted marshmallow. Loving this place. First time in today, got their chili and really enjoyed it. Top flavor coming from high quality ingredients. Nice little spoon of sour cream was a nice touch. After a little break I had second lunch. Shrimp and grits. Shrimp was done great, and fried okra cut the long way for once and not in disks. Great sausage too! I'm very picky when it comes to grits and these grits were almost there, but there was something less than the best. Maybe the texture, or maybe they didn't use fatback. The Republic may have only been open for a few weeks, but from my experiences (about half a dozen visits already, haha...), I wouldn't be able to tell! I've already brought family and friends in and I plan to keep it up :) Hours- Beware, the kitchen closes an hour earlier than the bar. That can catch you off guard if you don't know or if you're only going off 3rd party site's hours. 4-9/10 during the week, open for lunch & dinner on the weekends. Not gonna lie, I wish they were open a bit earlier than 4 during the week! However considering it's located in the middle of BFN, I get it. Plus it saves me a little bit of money & gas LOL! Atmosphere/Vibe- It's rustic and Texan themed... what's not to love!? It can get a little loud in the dining room, and I think guests and staff alike could benefit from some overhead fans to get some airflow in there, especially before the famous Texan summer rolls around. Lots of tvs around for those who are fans of sportsball but it's not overbearing at all. Service- Food and drinks can come a little slow, but those have been on days where there was a 45+ minute wait to be seated. They're still in the first stages of opening, there will a few hiccups here and there. Abby always takes fantastic care of me when I come in, and Thomas and Emily are awesome behind the bar. In fact I love walking in and seeing Emily back there! :) Also something I've seen in lots of reviews... just because you see bodies in the restaurant or open tables doesn't mean the staff is adequately prepared to give the level of great service you should expect. A lot more goes on behind the scenes in restaurants than you realize! Be fair! Food- Food can occasionally take a little while, but I understand a full restaurant of hungry people ordering delicious food can make that happen :) I'm very patient so I never mind but it is something I've noticed in their first few weeks of open. I'm sure they're only finding their rhythm, as it's gotten better and better every visit. The food itself is full of delicious flavor and I love trying new things on the menu, but I get drawn to the Texans on Horseback (spicy jalapeño poppers w a habanero raspberry jam) over and over. Also the best entree on the menu is probably the pan seared chicken. If this is where Republic is at this soon after opening, I can't wait to see where they are in 6 months from now :) read more

I would've loved to try this new place out, Leander needs more quality restaurants. However upon entering there was no hostess, and 2-3 waitstaff attending to tables. It looked like there were a few groups in front also waiting, and once the (assumed) hostess arrived, she looked right at my wife, got something at the host stand, and walked away without saying a single word. We waited about 5 minutes with no one around to even ask for assistance, so we turned around and had a great meal at a different local restaurant. I'm not sure if this place is still in soft open mode or what, but service will make or break you. read more

I waited until I had a return visit until I chose a proper rating. After three visits... it's just a disappointing experience. This last one had us searching for clean flatware. That's right- our preset table for four had dried food on the knifes and forks. Then when replaced- it was the same. We ended up getting some though.. so yay! The staff is nice enough and the open seating is ... kinda neat. I'm just not sure what's going on here. Either way their food lacks vision and most importantly taste. It's all bland. From the salty soups to the flavorless burger. Today I chose to top one of their burgers ( which I had on my first visit- in hopes for something exciting) with an egg and their grilled jalapeños. That will give it taste and maybe a little structure to the bleached flour bun. Wrong- the burger was just ok. The egg added some body and the... wait. Where are the grilled jalapeños?? Oh on the side. One single dipped in oil and placed on a grill for a few seconds jalapeño. Notice the singular connotation. Maybe I misread. Maybe it was served liked that. So I opted to slice it with my clean knife. This thing was a raw jalapeño lol. Oh well. I like them raw but -- why is this so wrong? The salads were great. Mixed well and served with some crunch. So far their republic side salad is the absolute best thing. Their soft pretzel is the only saving option aside from that. Anyways. This place is what it is. A failed attempt be something it will never be. Note: I've read good reviews for Republic. Don't get me wrong, I wanted to love this place. I've had take out and dine in. After 3 consistent visits I can truly say this is my new favorite neighborhood bar. Eliana has been my bartender every time. She is amazing at referring a menu item or drink. All of the staff are pleasant and the vibe is definitely upbeat and happy. They are inclusive and go above and beyond to make sure each guest has a pleasant experience. I hade a Hell or High Water cocktail followed by a Pineapple Express. The drinks are fairly priced and worth the price. For food I had a Wrangler Patty Melt that knocked my socks off. I did substitute the Texas Toast for a regular toasted bun. The Jalapeño mousse gives me all of the feels and the carmelized onion gave the burger a sweet smokey taste. I'm not a french fry fan so I opted for the Mesquite-Sriracha Tater Tots. All I can say is ORDER THE TOTS! Even the side house salad was delicious. They toss the salad in a sweet and tangy dressing that's just enough. We've tried to eat here a few time, the wait was always longer than justifiable but we finally made it in last week. It was a Thursday so we actually got sat immediately. That being said, it was 15 minutes before we finally flagged down a buzzer to ask who our wait staff would be. We ended up with Randy, who I think was pretty new, and immediately apologized for not knowing we were his table. Don't get me wrong, I totally understand being new and I really appreciate how hard we was trying; with the employment climate currently I totally understand having to throw him to the wolves. Things took a while but that's become the new normal. Food was very good, I'd put it just about in the Jack Allen and Moonshine realm for quality, which is very good. We had dirty water glasses on our table. 2 other parties came in after us yet were served drinks and food before us. I didn't love this place. I totally understand that with COVID, many restaurants have had to cut back their menus. With that being said, it seemed like breakfast-y food definitely prevailed during our Sunday afternoon visit. Seeing that they do a Sunday brunch, I get it, but always pictured that included a few other options not focused around eggs or waffles. My husband ended up ordering their burger (which isn't even obviously advertised as a burger), and said it wasn't anything to write home about. My mother-in-law had their chicken sandwich and seemed to be okay with it. Not much fanfare from my husband's stepfather or his girls. I ended up ordering the chili and didn't have any major complaints. I would've loved to see more in the "siesta" part of the menu that wasn't a salad. My other complaint was the noise. The music was so loud that we could barely hear each other across the table, which pretty much awkwardly split our party in half. At first, we tried to get past it by borderline yelling, but that got old. In between waiting for condiments, I asked our waitress if there was any way to knock the volume down by a click or two. She mentioned that she would see what she could do, but that it wasn't guaranteed since "people pay for it". My brother in law ended up seeing the jukebox in the corner, and while that's fantastic, I don't think it's too much to ask to keep music at a reasonable level in a place where you'd expect your guests to socialize at their table. read more

New spot, about a month old. Arrived at 2pm on a Sunday. Cool ambiance with a nice bar. Our waiter was friendly and explained the menu. Trio dip was good, they were out of the Texas caviar so they gave us queso instead, no complaints on that :) The Republic Rita was delicious! The bacon jalapeno wraps were a bit spicy but that's just me. Okra 3 ways, I liked 1 way the charred way. Burger was delicious and the tots had a good chipotle seasoning sprinkled on them. Music was not loud and made it perfect for talking to people at the table! For starters I had the Pepino Diablo drink (excellent drink to start the night!).
