Returned 4 years later and had the exact same experience. Friendly and fast service. The food was meh. 1. My husband enjoyed the chicken and waffles and isn't a big eater but it just wasn't a lot of food. It was literally ONE chicken tender divided between ONE waffle. Please see the pic. He said they were heavy on the honey butter and light on the chicken and waffles. This dish didn't come with any sides or other food. 2. Both kids (despite my advice) ordered breakfast. The eggs were ordered over easy and unfortunately they came broken and already runny (pic). The bacon on one was so very very crisp and on the other it was floppy. The hash browns were cooked in so much oil that it felt like you were eating oil - not potatoes. The biscuits were dry. The jalapeño gravy was tasty but we needed a lot more of it to make up for the dry biscuit. 3. Finally, I disliked my food last time which is why we hadn't been back for 4 years but everyone deserves another chanc. Today I ordered off their "specials" menu and got redfish. Redfish is one of my favorite fish so I was excited to try it. When it came I was happy because it was a nice sized portion (see pic). Then I tasted it. It was so fishy and as I picked it apart,I could see it was the blood vein piece. I could not eat it. My teenager is a vacuum and ate it. I then finished our 10 year olds left over eggs breakfast. The green beans under the fish were cooked well. I thought at least I can eat the green beans. Then I took another bite and noticed the SALT. I love my salt. I'm known to salt everything but these were just so so salty I couldn't enjoy them. I did eat them because I was hungry (and later my son's leftover egg dish). The other patios all had a wait. I normally don't write reviews for takeout since the food quality isn't the same as eating at a restaurant and you don't get the full dining experience, but sadly the overall taste of the food here warrants a review. Everything we ordered could be summed up with one word: dry. We ended up not finishing a lot of the food due to how dry everything was and the lack of flavor. It's such a shame. - Meatloaf Bites (1/5) - this dish was so hard and dry. It was pretty difficult to enjoy - French Onion Soup Cup (3/5) - The one thing that wasn't dry since it was a soup. This had decent flavor but just a tad salty to me - Chicken Diane (2/5) - I was excited for this mainly because of the green beans. The chicken itself is very dry. The mushroom brandy cream sauce was flavorful but it didn't do much to help the dryness and lack of flavor of the chicken. The green beans were fresh and nice though. - Southern Burger (3/5) - The patty looked juicy but once you bite into it, it was very dry. We had Gavin S. as our server and he was very attentive. Both me and my husband I had the Society Burger. I had mine with no bun and with blue cheese and bot the truffle fries. The burger was very good and cooked just like I like it - well done - and it was not dry. I was given a lot of fries that I only ate 1/4 of them. I also had the Ruby Cosmo which I really like because it's made with Deep Eddy Ruby Red Grapefruit instead of plain vodka. It's very yummy and I have not seen made this way at other places. The restaurant is very clean and well laid out for the restaurant and the bar with lots of TVs at the bar to watch sports. I plan to return. read more

This spot seems like a nice spot for a date night. The location is pretty convenient in a small plaza with easy parking. The food was good, but not worth the price tag, in my opinion. We dined in at the league during lunch and got great service while we were there. An upscale tavern vibe with TVs around to watch one of the games. The menu features all of your bar favorite bites and more. I got the prime steak sandwich which features a great au juis dip. We've been here a lot over the years but our recent experience was very disappointing. I came with my husband and three kids. After most of the food was out, the waiter came and told us that the kitchen had burned my husband's pork chop and they're going to make another. We said no problem. Then time goes by, then more time. Our waiter came out once to say it should be out soon. Then more time. The kids and I had completely finished our meal at this point and we were ready for the check. When the waiter finally came out with my husband's food he didn't seem the slightest concerned that it had taken that long. No manager came out to talk to us. We told our waiter that we didn't have time anymore and that he needed to take it off our check or box it up. He ended up taking it off our check but not boxing it up so my husband left empty handed without any dinner. It's totally fine that sometimes mess ups happen in the kitchen, it just wasn't handled very well at all and we likely won't be back. Had someone come out to talk us, been apologetic, or offered us consolation, it would have been a different experience, but it just seemed like they didn't care and things weren't being run well. read more

My husband and I went on a Thursday evening to use a coupon and take advantage of the half-price wine and prime rib special. We had been looking forward to it, as this restaurant is usually very busy and has a solid reputation. Unfortunately, the food did not meet our expectations. We shared the French onion soup to start. The broth was overly salty and tasted artificial rather than like a traditional, slow-simmered beef broth. We didn't finish it. I ordered the roast chicken with a sweet potato. The sweet potato was undercooked and still firm, and the chicken tasted reheated rather than freshly prepared. I did not finish my meal. My husband ordered the prime rib, which was mostly fat and arrived cold. He sent it back, and the waitress was apologetic, which we appreciated. We did enjoy the bottle of Decoy Cabernet on the half-price special. It was normally priced at $60 a bottle. We got it for $30. I noticed on Friday that it sells at HEB for$19.99 which made the pricing very inflated. The service was polite, and the restaurant was very crowded, but the food quality did not match the popularity. We were surprised and disappointed, as we expected better based on the reputation. Consistency ! That's what makes this restaurant a safe and great choice to dine. We have been coming here since 2009 and the only changes were always for the better. Yesterday, my wife ordered the prime steak sandwich. that item was one of my favorites over the years and it came out of the kitchen as we expected, hot, juicy and delicious. I ordered the chicken pot pie. I have had it before and when it was first offered, it was OK but they improved it and it has become another favorite. I can't leave the staff out of this review. The lovely and charming hostess who greeted us with a smile, our server, AM bar B (Probably not his name) a more friendly and engaging person probably doesn't exist. This was our first time visiting and they made sure to tell us about the restaurant, the prohibition theme and the wonderful things to try. Russell is the person I want at every table. Thanks to a recommendation in a food group from the book of faces we came to try the Fat Tire Fish and Chips-superb. (Get the truffle fries, you won't regret it.) We also tried the spinach dip....so yummy! Came with black salted tortilla chips..perfection! The mister got the grilled chicken sandwich, the chicken was well cooked and tasted good! Finally we had the Gma's Old Fashioned Dump cake.....Devine!!! They make the toffee y'all! I literally have a list of the things I want to try when we come back. For a Friday night, it was wonderful to be sat right away. They have a nice mix of tables and tall booths, very comfy. They make their tartar sauce in house. Chefs kiss! read more

This was a good spot and our server (the bartender) was really nice. The bathrooms inside here are funny with photos of old pin up dolls in the men's bathroom and former heartthrobs in women's bathroom. It kind of feels like in a ducked off area so I hope they get more foot traffic and customers because this is a nice place. read more

We've eaten at The League many times since it opened. But lately it seems to have lost some quality. Today we ordered two burgers and fries for pick up. I got to the restaurant and there was no server anywhere to be found. After 10 minutes the bartender came out and found our order. I got to car before realizing we didn't have fries for our order. I went back in and again had to wait for a while again for a server to appear. Got our fries and after a 20 minute ordeal in the restaurant headed home. Then we opened our food and the burgers were not medium as ordered but were almost fully red inside with only the outer part cooked. I had to cook my burger to make it right. Most of the other burger was thrown in the trash. So much for a $20 burger. I don't see us going to the League again. read more

I come here a lot and it's usually super good. Maybe an off night. My blackened ahi tuna was burnt and very dry tonight and the sauce was wayyyy too sweet. Plus they were out of vegetables??? Been going for years on Mondays for BOGO burger night. But recently been hanging on the regular there with some buds. Service is consistent, attentive and friendly, the beer is cold AF, food is awesome. Mgmt is legit and always checks in w us to make sure we are good and they listen when their customers give them feedback. Great food. Good prices. Monday burger night is the best way to cheat on your NYR's. Bartenders are always friendly and on top of stuff. Great place to sit with friends. There are a lot of TVs in the bar but, it is a sports bar. The good side is that they aren't loud and the clientele tend to be fairly relaxed about their teams. Great place to unwind after work. BOGO burgers on Monday. Food is top tier - burger juicy and medium rare. I like the Southern Burger. Fries are perfect. But their service is top notch. Unusual experience. Sat at a 75% empty bar but really had a hard time getting service. Sat close to 10 minutes before getting a menu, and then only from a server I asked. Never got a utensil setup when my food arrived, I ended up getting one myself from behind the bar because she disappeared for over 5 minutes. Needed condiments, ended up catching someone coming from the kitchen. Later I was going to get another beer but another 10 minutes passed from getting the beer list to being asked what I wanted so I just grabbed the check because the game was basically over at that Felt invisible. UPDATE SEPTEMBER 2024: Yeah, I just don't trust them anymore. My last two times in to avail myself of the BOGO Burger deal, the burgers have come out well done despite being ordered medium rare. I don't like sending food back, but this last time I did and it came back about medium well. I don't know what has happened here, I've been a customer since a few weeks after they opened but I think I finally have to cash out. What's so odd is that 100 feet away sits Tony C's, under the same ownership, who provide a superlative experience every time. This is for the Avery Ranch location. We forgot out leftover food. We pulled out of the parking lot and immediately remembered. Called and said we would be back in 2 minutes and the bus boy had already thrown it in the trash. We literally weren't gone 4 minutes. Wow.... Hostess in the black dress and the bus boy were too busy chatting when we left to say thanks, have a good night, nothing. Glad we didn't interrupt their conversation. Gluten Free Buns Pro: They have gluten free buns. They charge slightly less than others Con: Like most, when you pay extra for the GF bun, your protein is wildly reduced. Why charge more for a GF bun and short the most expensive ingredient. In this picture the regular version is on top. The GF is on bottom. The photo is misleading since the GF is closer. But it's probably right at 50% of the serving. The league is a great place. But for those with an auto-immune disease, is it really with the $1.50 to make them pay more and serve them less? Might as well charge for wheelchair access. read more

I visited the location at Avery Ranch in Austin Texas. The hamburger was good the waitress was very polite however the French fries were burnt or stiff and rough. Perhaps I will have another item with the good hamburger next time. Hopefully the bun won't be burnt. read more

We stopped by The League Kitchen recently on a Friday evening in search of fish and chips, which, per my fellow Yelpers, received top billing from quite a few reviewers. Our experience, unfortunately, was not the best. I arrived early and took a seat at the bar, perused the specialty cocktail list and opted for the El Guapo Shandy, a very good cocktail consisting of ruby red vodka, lemon and lime juices, honey and a splash of cream ale. Refreshing taste! Once seated, we decided to start with the tuna tartare tacos, which could have been better. One consistent theme that emerged during meal is the smothering of dishes with sweet sauces. The tuna tacos were the first fatality of that process. As the picture shows, the dish is soaking in the spicy mayo sauce that was poured all over the tacos and slaw. After digging through the sauce to retrieve the tuna, the tuna was spectacular; and, the few bites of slaw salvaged from under the blanket of sauce were very good too. The sauce overwhelmed the wonton shell "tortillas" which made them pretty soggy. Serving suggestion ... IMHO, sauce on the side, let the diner choose the amount of sauce to use eating the tacos. Main courses included the sought-after fish and chips and the fresh catch of the day special... hot and crunchy trout. When ordering fish and chips anywhere, we stress our preference for fish and the fries "hot out of the fryer" and not food sitting under the lights for any length of time. The fish and chips met that goal 50/50. The fish, super hot to the touch, almost impossible to eat at first (which is what we want! LOL), the batter was nice and thin, the fish tasted great. The fries were slightly above room temperature when served, not enjoyable at all, especially since we had upgraded to the truffle/cheese topping. The "malted tartar sauce" was not very good, we would have preferred just regular tartar sauce. The hot and crunchy trout saw the return of the over-sauced seafood malady. The cornflake/almond crust was really thick, too much for a thin trout filet. (See the partially eaten trout pic for an idea of the thickness of the crust... twice as much crust as fish.) Perhaps a thick piece cod could stand up to that crust. As the tacos suffered, so the trout suffered from a copious amount of chipotle/mango aioli. (See pic of dish as delivered). Does anyone actually like that much sauce? The overly thick crust also fell victim to the over-abundance of sauce, making the crust pretty soggy. Here, IMHO, the same suggestion as the tacos, sauce on the side. Despite the thick crust, the trout was very good, just not a very good dish overall. Note: the online picture of the trout dish shows much less sauce, likely a more appropriate amount and placement on the plate, most of the sauce on the side of the plate, not on the fish and green beans. We finished with a complimentary piece of The League's dump cake, which first time diners are provided. The dessert was the star of the show! It's a "deconstructed" dump cake that many of us had as children (at least I did), very, soft, moist chocolate cake, topped with homemade toffee chips, served with pecans and vanilla bean ice cream. Good combination, great dish! Overall, the service was great! Our server Noah was attentive but not intrusive. He didn't deliver on the hot fries, but he was a good waiter, and explained the restaurant concept and items on the menu very well. The restaurant was not super busy. It has a fun feel, some retro furniture and fixtures, and very moderate noise level. The music was a bit loud in the bar area, but in the dining area that was not an issue. Not sure whether we'll be back, although we may stop by for dessert to have more of the fabulous dump cake! read more

First, I went there right after an intense run at nearby Brushy Creek, and I was very ragged, yet was treated with respect. Worth an extra star right there. Had fish and chips and a tall boch which pairs well. A bit pricey but exemplary. Extra star for this menu item when it's done well because it's my test for commitment to quality. Nice atmosphere and they made me feel comfortable and welcome, ant that means I will be back to try other menu items. Any "I'll be back" is worth three stars minimum, so I'm good to give them five stars counting the extra stars. If you are not scrimping on costs (and yes we've all been there) then this place is worth a try! read more

Definitely would recommend this restaurant. Great food (Southern Burger with truffle fries and aioli is the best) no wait, and exceptional staff. Merissa is highlight of what an astute and compassionate bartender is. I never saw her standing still, she was always moving no matter the rush with a smile on her face. Great atmosphere during St. Patrick's Day. As much as I love the theatrics and decor. It wasn't crazy over the top looking like a green confetti explosion of decorations went off. It was subtle, and appreciate that still kept the theme of the original establishment. Would recommend on a weekday or holiday. read more

First time customers, we went at an odd time about 4pm yesterday on Saturday. Only a couple other people were there so I began to worry that this may not be a very good place to eat, I WAS WRONG. The host opened the door for our stroller, smiled and was super friendly. Our waitress was just as friendly and attentive. Portions were large and fresh. The fried pickles are sweet just FYI, I'm more of a dill pickle lover but my family really liked them. The fries are real fresh cut fries, not frozen & we're DELICIOUS. We shared the club sandwich, it's plenty for two people plus the fries. My husband ordered the sweet brussel sprouts and said they were the best he's had! My family also ordered the shrimp salad and burger with fries and both said it was great. We will be back! read more

Ordered spinach artichoke dip. It was tasty but the chips weren't fresh. On Father's day they advertised free prime rib for dad's with another dish of equal or lesser price. .We were 4 people. Two ordered 12oz prime rib plates. Two ordered 8 oz. When the check came, they deducted the two 8 oz dishes even though the sign said equal or lesser. Two 12 oz should have one deducted and the two 8 oz should have one deducted. What they did was not fair. read more
