We did the wine paired tasting menu and I had the vegetarian option. It was good, but it's definitely not a place geared for a veg set. That's okay, as my dinner partner had the waygu and said it was the best thing he'd ever tasted. The reason I'm knocking it down one star is the seating. We got the table right by the kitchen door, and I guess I didn't expect to have to ask for a seat more than three steps from a swinging door when the check for a couple guests was the size of my mortgage. The Restaurant at Justin is a fine-dining restaurant located at the Justin Vineyards & Winery grounds near Paso Robles. It has one Michelin Star as well as a Michelin Green Star focusing on sustainability and eco-friendly practices. It's a 30 minute drive from downtown Paso Robles through a windy road and when it's dark it can be hard to see without any lights. We made reservations and put a $100/person deposit that was returned to us upon our check-in. We were treated with some sauvignon blanc upon arrival and then brought to our table. The interior was spacious although they only serve maybe 10 tables for service. After we got seated we had some complimentary rosé as well. Our dinner was a 5 course meal although there were some extra dishes not included on the menu. Everything was really good and I especially liked the spiny lobster, laminated brioche, and liberty farms duck. Our dessert course ended up being three different courses and overall the meal was $225 per person. The service was amazing and everyone was so welcoming and accommodating, especially our server Jessica. The executive chef Rachel Haggstrom even came out to explain some of the main courses as well. I also noticed that they love using tuiles as four dishes utilized them. The service here was non-existent for us but fortunately there was free WiFi to use. The thing that really dampened our experience were the amount of flies inside during our dinner. The wine harvest usually happens around October so the flies are attracted to that. Our server kind of made it sound like we were the ones that were unusually-bothered by it and we shouldn't have been. However, we saw the workers using electric fly swatters to kill the flies during service so they know it's a problem too. The flies were all around the food on our table which wasn't what I'd expected for such a nice meal of high quality. I'd think they would have found a solution to that problem. read more

WOW! What an amazing dining experience we had at the Restaurant at the Justin Winery last night. Not only has it been awarded a Michelin star but also a Michelin green star for sustainability. We were taken to our table immediately at our reservation time ( we opted to sit outside since it was a beautiful night and the winery grounds are gorgeous) and were pampered from the moment we sat down by the entire incredible staff. Our server was Tori and she was amazing. She explained the entire experience to us along our culinary journey. I have attached the menu, which actually had a birthday wish for my wife on it, and some pictures, but the pictures do not do the food justice. We love Justin wine so that was a no brainer. Every glass was superb as always. The Wagyu ribeye and Venison filet were brilliant. The Halibut and Salmon tartare were the best we ever tasted, and the desert offerings beyond our imagination. Our complements to Chef Rachel Haggstrom and the entire staff. I don't mean to name drop but we flew to Chicago a couple years ago to eat at Alinea and as amazing as it was the restaurant at the Justin outshined it. I had reservations for the restaurant on Saturday. We got a hotel as we had a 8:30 dinner. Got a dog sitter. Was so excited. At 5:30 we get a call. Power outage. No dinner. What ? We went in the next day. They were so apologetic. We stay for lunch and after we ordered they told us it was compd because of the power outage cancellation. They did not have too. It was a power move. They took ownership of it. I will definitely be back. You can't control power outages but understand the big impact is high emotional iq. Pretty good. read more

No doubt, the food was delicious, presentation was perfect and service was lovely. We enjoyed all the tastes and even decided to kick things up a notch and upgraded one of the dishes with waygu beef ($65 upgrade)- which was outstanding. The bread and butter that accompanied the meal Was divine. We left feeling satisfied and overall it was a very positive experience. Having said that, I don't think it's truly worth the money for this experience. Its just a lot if money ($225 per person) for what you get - 5 small tastes, amuse bouche, a palate cleanser after the meal and a dessert - plus your choice of chocolates/sweets at the very end of the meal. We spent $700 for two people, which included the waygu upgrade and the generous 22% gratuity we also included. This did not include wine, which we decided not to add on after visiting three wineries earlier in the day. By comparison, we went to Six Test Kitchen the night before, which was about the same price per person and had 14 tastes and was a truly immersive experience. If you want a Michelin-star tasting experience for the value in the region, we would choose that experience over this one at Justin. Our experience at this restaurant was underwhelming, especially considering the price and the reputation. The food simply wasn't very good. Several dishes felt like the chef was trying to be creative for the sake of creativity, but the ingredients didn't work together in a balanced way. Flavors clashed rather than complemented each other. A few dishes were passable, but nothing stood out in a memorable way, and one of our desserts never arrived at all. Service also fell short. Our bill was inconsistent -- we were charged a different amount the second day than what we had originally been given. We requested a kitchen tour and never received any response. At multiple points, there were no servers on the floor; it looked like the staff were overextended and constantly pulled into the back, which left the dining room unattended for long stretches. Overall, the experience wasn't terrible, but for a fine-dining restaurant at this price level, it missed the mark on both food and service. Wow! Fine dining at its best. The beautiful restaurant is at the rear of the tasting building. It opens only after the tasting room has been cleaned. There are less than a dozen tables. In addition to the six course meal, there were several amuse bouche as well as a palate cleanser. They even had cool mocktails for those who were not drinking. The servers make you feel like royalty. Make your reservation! We did ours 3 months in advance for Valentine's weekend. We opted to drive and glad we did because it was a 3 hour tasting for our 6:30 pm RSVP. Absolute darkness driving there so take it slow. The service is impeccable. Huge thanks to Collin and team for their perfected service. We had a chance to sit outside (one of two tables) and loved the outdoor seating with heaters. We celebrated my birthday and 2 year wedding anniversary and the menu had a customized congrats message. The best reverse osmosis water you'll have. With the pre fixed menu ($225 pp), there were supplemental options, including wine pairing ($110 pp) and additional dishes (steak, fettuccine, and soufflé). The carrot cake dessert was delicious and the treasure chocolates was a great touch (ask for coffee!) It was a very expensive dinner of about $1,200 for 2 with tasting and additional supplemental purchases of soufflé and fettuccine and 3 wine bottles at $44 per bottle. Reservations - get them or you will likely be disappointed. Did you read that? Get a Reservation. I took a few weeks to try to come up with the right adjective for this experience. Striking didn't do it. Amazing was close. I settled on "Mind Blowing." I think that covers it. We have been a fan of Justin wines and their Cabernet for years. I won't go into details, but it is one of the go-to wines I can depend on, whether I buy a bottle at a store, or in a restaurant. I wanted to visit the Justin Winery, and they had this restaurant, so I figured let's do a wine pairing with their food. Good choice. This is a Michelin Star Restaurant, which means it has been scrubbed by people who know what they are tasting, and is rated for it. I don't think we have ever eaten at a Michelin Star restaurant before. I'm regretting that. For starters, the interior is very nice - from the moment you step through the front door, it is light walls, interesting light fixtures, and a nice restaurant design. As you walk into the restaurant, you walk through a Justin wine library, with some epic bottles (with equally epic prices). Then you reach the restaurant. This isn't loud at all. The view out the windows is beautiful. The view of the room exudes quiet elegance. Each course is laid out. As I noted, we went with the wine pairings, and each wine was expertly paired with each course. Each course seems small, however, my wife wasn't able to finish her entire dinner, so they wrapped it up nicely and even included the salt that was provided. Service was outstanding. The water glasses stayed filled with each course, and the experience was absolutely top notch. The tastes of each dish were new and interesting. They even used the garnish on the table as part of the dish. I don't want to take away the magic for you - you simply have to budget for this and go for it. You won't regret it. We went to the Restaurant at Justin for our 11th anniversary and got absolutely hammered during a fancy, sloshy three-hour dinner. This Michelin-starred restaurant is attached to a winery owned by the multibillion-dollar Wonderful Company, and they are not stingy with their wine. I made our 8:00 reservation weeks in advance, with a request for an earlier time should it become available. It never did, and we took our long Uber ride into a scenic vineyard property almost entirely cloaked in darkness. We arrived a few minutes early, hoping to catch a bit of the view. There wasn't much, but we were welcomed with full glasses of Justin Sauvignon Blanc. The property was obviously nice, and we waited in a lobby decorated with what must have been the Wonderful family's art. We sat in the dining room for our dinner, and this was pleasant if a bit sterile. I'm guessing the view provides much of the ambiance. Service was both friendly and formal, definitely a highfalutin fine dining experience. There were wet towelettes watered in a bowl at our table, many dainty bites and much pouring of sauces. And of course, a tasting menu with an essentially bottomless wine pairing. The menu was one page long and consisted of about six courses with a few opportunities for paid supplements. There was also the chef's tasting menu, which came with all the supplements for less than they would have cost a la carte. The wine pairing for the augmented menu was also discounted--it was the same price as the base pairing, with additional pours for the extra courses. We decided to go big before going home. The food was excellent, if not the main thing I remember from our meal. Dinner started with a series of welcome bites. First, there was a lovely watermelon tartare in a housemade tuille, with sesame oil, Thai basil, and finger lime. Then a delicate trio: savory canele with caramelized leeks, beef tartare, and pecorino cheese; brioche with goat cheese, compressed melon, Iberico pork shoulder, and pickled cherry; and a tart shell with burrata and elements of tomato gazpacho. After that, our server picked up a bouquet of herbs that had been decorating our table and used it to prepare a sauce with plum granita, Armenian cucumber juice, and basil. This went with a nice crudo of yellowtail folded into a rose, decorated with another house tuile lacy with a pattern of roses. The next course was the Sturia Oscietra caviar with scallop, white mulberry, and gnocchi. A luxurious dish, the most expensive of the supplemental courses, and, I regret to inform you, my favorite of the night. Then, we had the house bread and butter, a gorgeous laminated onion brioche with rich, cheesy butter. The local halibut was mild and elegantly cooked, served with thinly shaved squash, stuffed squash blossom, and a vibrant green sauce. Then we had Japanese A5 wagyu ribeye, which was super decadent, almost on the edge of being too buttery (my husband loved it and I liked it but also could barely finish the small portion). It came with carrot pain perdu, Thumbelina carrot, and Szechuan peppercorn. Every one of these courses came with a healthy pour of wine, but the ribeye came with two, one to pair with the steak and the other with the sides. The Isosceles wine was particularly delicious. A Challerhocker soufflé served as a cheese course, with pickled mulberry and estate greens. This wasn't bad, but it wasn't as good as I thought it would be, and there was a green in the accompanying salad that was unpleasantly bitter (I'm pretty sure it was also in one of the welcome bites). I did love the palate cleanser that followed, a cup of tomato sorbet, strawberry gelée, and burrata drizzled with 25-year balsamic. Dessert was the "peach rings," an assembly of sweet things with crème fraîche, Tahitian vanilla, lemon verbena, and peach. Also, of course, dessert wine. Then we got to pick from a treasure box of mignardises. There were a few bon bons, among them black forest and blueberry yuzu white chocolate, as well as house Snicker bars and strawberry pate de fruit with basil sugar. We were presented with an enormous bill and a list of the wines we'd consumed, all available for purchase (we passed, as we were too drunk to make considered decisions). We went home with neat little bags containing lemon verbena sugar and, hilariously, gift bottles of Fiji water. It took a long time to get an Uber back and we almost missed it when our driver lost cell service on the property--definitely something to be aware of, and that the restaurant should keep in mind. We made it back to the hotel, though, where I passed out and woke up at five in the morning to expel some wine. This was a very expensive meal, and I will say that while the food was great, it didn't quite blow me away. We had a blast, though, living it up and drinking to excess. I visited this restaurant with high expectations, but what followed was a complete nightmare. After eating just one bite of my dish, I became violently ill and later tested positive for Clostridium perfringens, a serious foodborne illness. I reached out to the restaurant expecting concern, accountability, or at the very least, a basic expression of empathy. What I received instead was gaslighting, blame-shifting, and a completely dismissive response from leadership. When I finally spoke with the chef, it felt less like a conversation and more like a deposition--cold, defensive, and disturbingly devoid of care. She told me I "should've been better by now," completely ignoring the reality of my medically documented condition and the fact that I have a weakened immune system. She even attempted to blame me for asking for a blanket when it was cold saying I was uncomfortable from the start. The entire exchange was surreal and deeply upsetting. As a proud feminist, I make it a point to support women in male-dominated professions--especially female chefs--and I was truly looking forward to supporting this establishment. Unfortunately, this experience made it painfully clear that we can't support people who fail to show basic humanity and accountability when something goes wrong. For a restaurant that markets itself as elevated and thoughtful, this experience was anything but. I strongly urge others to think twice before dining here. If something goes wrong, don't expect care, responsibility, or professionalism. eTa: What's worse: after writing the above review, I discovered that someone else reported the exact same experience just one month prior. Must make reservations. It is 25-30 minutes from downtown Paso Robles. And it is a very dark and windy road most of the way. When confirming the reservation, they even told us that people who are sensitive get motion sickness. You can stay at the property but it's a bit far from everything else. We had 8:30 reservations so by the time we got there it was dark. Hopefully next time we can see the beautiful property of the sunset. The hostess is outside to greet you and pour you a glass while you wait for your table. We got the 2 add ons and shared them. Nice that you don't have to both get the add ones if you just want to try it. We even had a takeaway bottle of water and a lemon balm salt they used on the fish. Always love a little gift to take home. Everything was wonderful. And service was great. Signed up for the wine club and dinner was discounted. We made a reservation for a Sunday afternoon lunch to start at 2:30 since the drive down would be about 3.5 hours. That appeared to be fine except no one told us the kitchen would close at 3pm until our server mentioned it as we were exploring the menu and the wine list. Really? If you are going to close at 3, why take a reservation at 2:30? We were rushed into making choices, which turned out to be good ones fortunately. Two of us had the cheeseburger and it was indeed excellent as were the fries. The chicken pot pie was delicious - beautifully seasoned with rosemary, etc.. We asked for the reserve flight rather than the standard one and we were suprised we were charged $80 pp. We were going to be staying for two nights at the Inn and the standard $40 flight was free if you stay there, so shouldn't the reserve tasting be discounted as well? Regardless, the wines were excellent and we ended up buying quite a lot to ship home. The waitress told us that we had to get our dessert order in quickly so we did, only to hear that the kitchen had closed and she didn't "dare" venture in to get us a dessert. Again, really? We also quickly ordered some appetizers to take back to the suite since the kitchen was closing and we'd have no food for dinner. As it turned out, we threw them out (the flatbread was soaked with oil). Very disappointing. The terrace was cool but the heaters worked well and the view was very nice. We had lunch here many years ago and had wonderful memories of that, but this time was not as memorable. read more

I couldn't have better things to say about our experience at The Restaurant at JUSTIN Vineyards & Winery. While we weren't able to do a tasting during the day and explore the grounds, our dinner experience was top notch. The Restaurant at JUSTIN was recently recommended by the Michelin's Guide as one of the must visit places in California. They offer a pre-fixed 5-course farm-to-table dinner with optional wine pairings and 2 additional supplemental courses. When you get to the grounds, you are personally welcomed by the valet and hostess, who greets you by name. The Restaurant itself is dimly lit, mostly by candlelight, with a view of the entire vineyard grounds, making for an intimate and romantic ambiance. Each course is thoughtfully presented and explained by your server and if you're lucky, the Chef himself. The whole dinner is a 2.5hr experience and reservations are a must. I'd recommend opting for an earlier reservation so you can go around sunset, while there's still light out - especially since the trek out to the Vineyard itself is a long and dark one. Also, there's absolutely no cell service venturing out that far so make sure to download directions or schedule your car service in advance to avoid getting stranded. Price Point: $$$$ read more

We came here to celebrate our 10-year anniversary, excited for a memorable experience. The restaurant itself is beautiful, and the staff was welcoming at the start. However, partway through our meal, I suddenly felt chills and nausea. I had to excuse myself multiple times and eventually told my fiancé that I couldn't continue eating or drinking. When he informed our server, she simply mentioned that there were only two courses left and offered to pack mine to go. While my fiancé finished his meal, I sat there feeling increasingly uncomfortable--not just from being unwell, but because none of the staff acknowledged me. No one checked in to see if I was okay or made eye contact, which made me feel embarrassed for even being there. I understand that my illness wasn't the restaurant's fault, but at a Michelin-starred establishment, I expected a higher level of attentiveness and hospitality. To add to the disappointment, we both opted for wine pairings, but since I couldn't drink mine at all, it would have been a thoughtful gesture for the restaurant to offer to adjust the charge. I've had better service at small, local businesses that truly go above and beyond for their guests. Really enjoyed our lunch at Justin this afternoon. We didn't have any reservations but decided to give it a try since we were driving right by it. And sure enough the manager was able to sit us right away. My husband and I had a wonderful lunch here with a bottle of their cold Rose. We ordered burgers and fries which out waiter told us was very popular and the most ordered item on the menu. He was right , the burger was probably one of the best I ever had at a restaurant. I'm not much of a burger fan but I absolutely enjoyed this one today. The ground are so beautiful, hills of vines all around the property. Doesn't matter where you are seated you can enjoy the beauty all around. There is a chefs garden in the back of the property with a lot of herbs and vegetable and edible flowers. Absolutely loved walking around and admiring it. I highly recommend visiting Justin on your trip to Paso Robles. Make sure to make reservations at least two weeks ahead of time. read more

I've had the good fortune to dine at restaurants around the world. Including other Michelin star restaurants. For the price and the recognition, every course should hit the mark. With two entree choices, they both should similarly represent the star Justin was rewarded. Apparently the Michelin inspectors didn't choose duck. I challenge Justin to blindfold 100 people and have them taste the duck. I'd predict maybe two or three could even tell you what it was. Count me in the 98%. Even with the sauce, it had no taste. My wife called it gamey. She stopped at one bite, I made it to three before I threw in the towel. The experience was a disappointment at best, a culinary tragedy at worst. They made an adjustment to our bill and offered an apology. They knew how we felt but never followed up. One and done. read more

In a word, sublime! We recently visited for my wife's birthday. She's an ICU Nurse, so getting away from Denver for a night to have dinner was much needed. Since COVID is affecting CA so strongly, they were unable to offer inside dining. The staff followed proper protocol, and we had a delightful meal outdoors. The dining was fixed as a four coarse dinner. We also opted for both a traditional and premium wine pairing. We did not indulge in the supplemental course, but it looked amazing. The meal started with a beautiful glass of bubbly Saint-Hilaire Blanquette de Limoux. Nothing fancy but fun. Our friendly, charismatic waiter also delivered a house-made crusty bread with Australian butter that was out of this world. Not too soon after, the wine started flowing, as did the food--the soup as creamy and refined yet bold and flavorful. The caviar and oyster added a salty component to the rich flavor of the celery root and apple. The braised lamb tortellini was as rich but balanced with the bitter greens and the mulberry. I could have enjoyed a dozen more of these, but I was glad they only offered a few as the next course was the star. The tender filet was topped with bone marrow butter. Everything else was for aesthetics, in my opinion. The beef stole the show and delivered the punchline. Finally, Apple and Yuzu. What a carefully crafted delight? This filled white chocolate apple was a true work of art. We returned the next day for another tasting and some snacks. The Brussel sprouts were perfect for standing up to some bold reds. If you're doing Estate Tasting & Lunch in a group of 7 or more, would recommend splitting yourself into smaller groups as there will otherwise be a $60/person tasting fee on top of the flight you're paying for. (Source: We had a group of 15, we were careful in dividing up.) Also, if you're purchasing wine after eating/tasting, be aware that your wine purchase and food (whatever you end up ordering for lunch, dessert, and/or an add-on) purchase will be calculated into one bill, ESPECIALLY if you're buying a lot of wine. The tip is calculated from the cumulative bill, and people tend to click through without thinking (payment done through iPad). We specifically requested two separate bills for the meal and our wine purchase, but others who made substantial wine purchases were a bit less careful and ended up paying tips that were two to four times bigger than their food bill. Finally, not sure if this is given to everyone, but they offered our various groups were given the option to waive one person's tasting if we made a wine purchase of $100 or more. They have a number of tasting experiences (most of them for members only) and we made the reservations online. My understanding is that they're not doing walk-ins right now and bottle service (buying wine, then drinking it there) is for their club members only. They have their own lot, so plenty of parking (including a Tesla charger). Drive is pretty windy though, but very pretty. If you don't have the time to go up there, there's also the JUSTIN Downtown Tasting Room in downtown Paso Robles, which has a very nice patio facing out into the Downtown City Park. Food and the menu are seasonal, fresh, and tend to be local products. They have their own little herb garden. Portions were much larger than we thought they would and were very salty, rich, and filling to go with the wine. The pasta especially so. XD Would highly recommend the artisanal cheese plate as it includes a lot of local sheep cheese I thought was great. Thank you to our waitress/wine stewardess as she was super thorough in explaining every little detail and accommodating. We got the Estate Tasting Flight rather than the Premium one, but she was still willing to let us taste some of the Premium wines. I think nearly everyone ended up getting the 2018 ISOSCELES and 2017 ISOSCELES Reserve. Overall, a really good place to have a wine tasting and food. I appreciate places that have more than little things to go with alcohol, and you are able to have actual meals here. Lovely place, too. I can imagine the building and décor are lovely at night for dinner, but I think the main point is to enjoy the actual vineyard, trails, garden, and such so the lunch tastings are probably for the best. read more

AMAZING! I stayed at Justin recently for an anniversary celebration and had a few meals at the restaurant. While everything was incredible, my favorite meal was definitely the dinner experience. Location: The vineyard is 25 minutes from downtown Paso and up a somewhat windy road. It's tucked away and wonderfully secluded. Service: The concierge and service was so attentive - Brian and Amanda specifically made us feel so welcome and were accommodating to our every need. As soon as we arrived for our reservation we were greeted with a glass of rosé that we sipped on while we waited to be seated. Food: Mind blowing! There were four primary courses and a few additional courses (bread/amuse bouche/palate cleanser/chocolate). The whole menu was so well put together and you will 1000% leave full and raving about how well the flavors marry. Price: 200 per person prix fixe with an additional 90 per person for wine pairing. Pricey but the food was 100% worth it. Ambiance: There are lovely views of the vineyard from the restaurant - highly suggest an earlier reservation (maybe 6/6:30), so you can see the sun set over the hill. read more

This review is based on our GROUP experience. We had reservations for 4 couples and were required to put the entire meal and drinks on ONE CREDIT card. Considering the price of their wine and food, this was very inconvenient. The restaurant does not allow the waitress to: 1. split the bill by what each couple ordered 2. split the bill evenly between the 4 couples 3. show the bill details before collecting a credit card for payment This is simply ridiculous & they should invest in a new POS system ASAP. read more

I enjoyed my experience at the restaurant more than I did the tasting, actually. While it is a bit of a tourist trap, it's a blessing in disguise, since Paso Robles wine country is often rural and very few amenities (or cell service) exists in the areas with some of the best, and most renowned, wineries. We had a tasting at the winery, but, the restaurant was the best part of the experience. Very friendly server and beautiful setting. Great people watching, too. We were there on a Saturday in July and it was pretty busy. They also had a DJ playing music - he was a doll and let us make a few requests. Even came over to our table to ask my elderly father for some of his favorites - no complaints playing Barry White songs! The wines are all Justin/Landmark and inexpensive given that we're on winery groups. We had a nice, cold chardonnay and burgers, with eggs on them, that were absolutely delicious. Make a reservation or you'll be out of luck. Skip the wine tasting, unless you really like a cookie cutter experience. Go to Tablas Creek or Halter Ranch instead! read more

Absolutely fantastic dinner. Every single person we interacted with from the bar tender to the receptionist was well versed beyond their scope. The service was warm and unpretentious. The food was exceptional. They walked us from our car to the restaurant with an umbrella as there was a drizzle on arrival. The chef even came out on request to have a chat as my first Michelin meal was over a decade ago where she started her career which gave me the fuzzies. All in all 11/10. Not worth the hype. We visited the restaurant and tried the premium flight ($80pp), but mainly to have lunch and try the burger that everyone was raving about. We ordered the burger and salad to share, and were underwhelmed. The burger wasn't anything special and the salad was also so-so. Just FYI, they charge $5 to split the burger. The views were just okay also, nothing special to us, but then again we went here after visiting Daou, so we might've have high expectations. read more

DO NOT VISIT THIS VENUE. THEY EMPLOY HOSTILE EMPLOYEES WHO SPEW H0M0PH0BIC SLURS while BATING PATRONS INTO LEAVING (which we absolutely did). BACKGROUND: Below is a review based upon an experience we had on Saturday, 10/29/2022. We booked the reservation weeks & weeks & weeks ago. We even paid for the 'reservation charge' requesting several accommodations: sit inside (no patio seating), & a quiet corner table. Here's what happened next (MANY RED FLAGS): ---- We had reserved a driver (we were going to be drinking so it's a responsible thing to do) so I called Justin around 2:00ish to inquire as to what they had for food to buy for our driver. JUSTIN is in the middle of nowhere (aka BFE) so we didn't want our driver heading into Paso Robles to find food given our event was from 6:30 until 10:00PM. The convo on the telephone was chaotic (many on-holds) but the employee was accommodating enough to reserve a charcuterie board for $55 for us. ---- We arrive only to experience a male employee in the front of white building to treat us in a nonchalant manner (aka not interested). Mind you, there's online reviews where patrons would be served some rose wine upon arriving. We were not offered such. (I'm actually surprised he wasn't manicuring his nails like a 'Revenge Secretary' scene in an unnamed Hollywood flick.) Strange behavior. ----We were told NOT TO go through the front doors, but a side door because "[We] still had 13 minutes before reservation." Shocking way to greet guests. Nobody opened the doors. No manners. Nothing. So, with time to burn, we walked into the tasting bar area to confirm that our driver would be served the charcuterie board. We waited and waited, but no response whether it had been furnished to him so I went outside (east side of building) only to find our driver had been served the $55 charcuterie board haphazardly in two "to go" boxes. No board presentation. No plate. And, literally, half of the charcuterie board was missing. He had also not been given water. Just basic water. I then walked out front to ask the 'ghost quitting' male host employee for water. As I'm waiting, I tell my spouse that 'Tony' was served the food, but it was done so poorly that I could have stopped by any hamburger establishment for their most expensive food items and received it in better condition than what JUSTIN served. The Restaurant at JUSTIN didn't even tell us our driver was given food that we ordered & charged for. ---- Dinner Reservation Time: We were taken in through the back of the establishment and the hostess tried to sit us outside (where it was freezing in late October), then when I said, "No, we wanted inside." She immediately tried to seat us in the middle of the room. I said, "May we please be seated in the corner where we requested weeks ago?" She looked shocked and muttered something saying, "Go ahead." Then, we sat patiently waiting while we watched another table being attended to. They were seated 5-10 minutes after us. Table was immediately served wine, water, and had 2-3 employees helping them. -- -- Oh boy, shortly afterwards, the real ugliness happened. Oh. My. God. The male employee "Ben" came to our table with a splash of rose wine. He started out with, "Do you have any food preferences or restrictions?" We said, as reiterated for days/weeks (through communication), that we did not. I also mentioned I didn't appreciate our driver being treated less than relating to the food (aka a dog). Then, my spouse, someone who oversees over 150+ employees for two (2) major healthcare facilities and many outpatient clinics spanning two (2) Central Coast counties, said, "Oh, yes, we do. What notes do you have on us?" "Ben" started to get frustrated. Fumbling through his apron. I immediately said, "This isn't going well so I'm leaving!" We both got up. My spouse walked through the sliding glass doors with "Ben" only to be told by "Ben" that "[he was] intentionally getting [us] to leave" and spewing a homophobic slur that my spouse was a "f&ggot...and could leave." ---- UPDATE from my original Yelp Review post on "Justin Vineyards & Winery" Yelp account: After my original Yelp review was posted, I found out that my VERY CALM spouse was threatened with physical harm by "Ben" as he was exiting the JUSTIN establishment. "Ben" had picked up a glass bottle by the tasting room counter acting like he was going to strike him with it. JFC! Unprovoked violence is beyond any/all acceptable behavior by any employee towards a patron. "Ben" is an unhinged person employed by JUSTIN. SUMMARY: What a shameful, awful experience. I can't imagine what these harassing individuals like "Ben" do to a young, not confident, quiet co-worker(s) if he/they do such blatant unprofessional, aggressive behavior towards patrons. Something is toxic with JUSTIN and it probably needs addressed before they are liable for allowing a toxic environment to exist/manifest. read more

We had a really fun day date here! It's a gorgeous property with fantastic wine. This board was so filling that we didn't even want to eat the salad we had also ordered. We did the standard flight which was perfect. They weren't generous pours but good enough to get a taste of each kind. I will definitely go back. read more

Justin is a bit far out so be mindful if you have a few glasses of their delicious wine and you are driving back. The location is gorgeous and the building is in an elegant farmhouse style. We tried a couple of their wines which matched the hype and also did the pre-fixe meal. The food was good but nothing memorable. read more

Came to Justin Winery for brunch on a Sunday and I was pretty impressed. Had their burger, which was cooked to perfection, as well as the BLT sandwich, which was amazing. Don't miss this place if you're wine tasting in Paso Robles, they have some great wines here if you're willing to pony up the coin. Do make a reservation for lunch because it get's really crowded. We were lucky enough to snag a table because we showed up at 11am, right when the restaurant was opening. Service can be a little on the slower side, but everyone was extremely friendly. This place is amazing on every level and only gets 4 stars, not 5, because they have such limited vegan options. We had lunch there last week after having been here for wine many times before. It's a great location, service is perfect, food and wine are tops. I just wish there was 1-2 more items for vegans and a vegan chocolate on the menu. Seems safe, clean, spread out, everyone in masks, and a fine place for a lovely covid-times getaway, let's just get the chef a bit more up on veggie eats! read more
