We were looking for a place to get dinner, and in talking with the rep at Derby Wine Estates earlier today, and he suggested the Junction. Tapas, wine? What's not to like? We snuck in without a reservation, and got seated immediately. A quick look at the menu indicated that this place was full Spanish as far as food. It took us a few minutes and we elected to go with the Chicken and Chorizo Paella, and an order of the Empanadas. The Empanadas come in a flight of 4, so it was two per person. They were quite tasty, and came with a small dish of a creamed hot sauce, which worked great with the empanadas. The Paella came out - it was a 30 minute cook time. The spices and the chicken and chorizo worked so well together. We had to find a wine that would work with this, and we went with a Derby Tempranillo. It was light enough to work, and cut the grease in the dish like a laser. We finished up with a Limoncello Tort, which was tasty. Ambiance is kind of mondernesque, with interesting power and gridwork overhead, and some sound deadening panels on the walls. Junction brings elements of Spain to you with flavors and tapas that just hit the spot. The restaurant has both indoor and outdoor seating, they allow dogs in the back and provide them with water bowls. The restaurant has romantic and has a very rustic environment. Service was amazing, Luke was absolutely amazing and great with suggestions, he was overall just an amazing person to host us. He made sure to be check on us as often as possible he could and brought out the food in great timing. The junction paella- was very delicious, the depth of flavor was amazing and the Spanish chorizo was delicious and the chicken was really good. The rice just had these amazing flavors and had some heat as well. The mushroom empanadas were just amazing, the dough was crisp and buttery, the mushroom mix was so very delicious and the sauce they gave was such a perfect complement to the dish. The patatas bravas was my favorite to be honest... it's such a simple dish but it's just so good. The sauces and crispy textures of the potato were just delicious. Off the beaten path and a great spot if you're trying to avoid the tourist crowds of the downtown square, Junction is nestled in a train station compound. Unassuming from the outside, this hidden gem brings a blend of Latino cultures to the literal table. We've been here before and loved it, but they've since elevated their menu and added many more items. The wine list is overflowing with small-batch, boutique local wines--either Latino-owned or featuring Spanish varietals. I started with a glass of Victor Hugo Merlot, which was fantastic, but let me tell you about the Caelesta Cab/Mourvèdre. This sexxy red (shoutout to my girl Sexxy Red) was velvety, incredibly well-balanced, and perfectly complemented the paella fideuà. Junction serves fideo, or fideuà, sourced from Etto Pasta, and it's always nostalgic for me. This comforting yet stylish dish hugged me like it hadn't seen me in years. I teared up (yeah, I did...what about it?) and actually paused to consider: do I want to eat this whole dish in one sitting? Should I reconsider post-date-night plans because I might be too full? Nah--bring it on. The calories can be worked off later. The seafood paella fideuà got better with every bite. The shrimp, squid, rockfish, and mussels were cooked to perfection. I found myself clutching my linen napkin, wishing the dish would never end, hoping that my wife wouldn't notice that I'm about to make this paella my bitch, wishing I could endorse this paella to run for president and run more than two terms! Splooosh! The food and wine are the kind you'd tell your grandkids about around a campfire--meals that inspire the next generation of food lovers. But the staff were just as much the stars of the show. The space is on the smaller side but thoughtfully laid out. They were slammed--in the best way. It's the kind of place where you know whatever you order will be great, yet you worry service might slip with only two servers and no hostess. Both my wife and I have worked in service, so we appreciate a well-oiled machine--and I'm not talking about myself here. I'm talking about the legends who ran the floor that night. Too often, diners overlook the staff or don't fully understand the intensity of a Friday night rush. Major kudos to the chef and kitchen team, but may the odds forever be in favor of the front-of-house crew for flawlessly navigating the chaos. Luke Estrella was definitely getting his steps in, along with his teammate, but they always made time to pour wine, share insights, and connect with guests--all while smiling and putting out fires left and right. Came here for brunch! Loved it. It was a super cute spot in a plaza with lots of parking. We got the cava and shared a cheeseboard and pork empanadas. The portions were big and we were filled up with these. The cava was refreshing and delicious. The cheeseboard we got had pate, Brie, pickled onions, and some toasted bread. So good The empanadas came with four pieces -- wish we could mix and match but the aioli sauce was delish to dip in! Had a little kick to it. This spot is a hidden gem! My friend found it on Google and we are so glad he did! I will say though, it was super pricey! We split all the tapas we ordered. The wagyu and pork lollipops were some of the tables favorites. However, they all came with the same little side salad with vinaigrette dressing. It would have been nice to taste something different. They invite a winemaker over for a tasting of their wine that's paired with dishes. $25 for the 3 wine pours, but the food wasn't included. - house special nut mix: I forgot the actual name but the description sounded tasty! Loved this place!!! We were looking for a nice restaurant our last night in Paso Robles and found this on Open Table. We were seated at the bar. I don't like goat cheese or beets, but their Ensalada de Romolaca salad was absolutely incredible. I didn't take a picture because I didn't plan on trying it until my wife forced me to. That was followed by chicken and mushroom empanadas. The chicken was our favorite. Next were the Lamb Lollipops. Now I am not a fan of lamb but I would order these 1,000 more times. So much flavor. Not gamey at all. We finished it off with seafood paella, that was super fresh and tasty. The night before I had been telling my wife that I would love to find a good paella place after the one in Fresno closed a decade ago. While we were sitting at the bar, Ingrid, one of the owners came up to cut fruit and told us about how this restaurant came to fruition. She introduced us to her husband and head chef, Nick. Just a really nice couple. Hearing the backstories brings heart to the food. BTW - Next time one of you idiots decide that you want to leave a bad review, just keep in mind that small business owners deserve some grace because they are competing with big fish. We had our reservations here as we love Spanish tapas. We arrived a bit early & were vreeted by a wonderful, welcoming hostess - our table was ready so we got seated right away. They were very busy on Saturday evening so it took a while to get our food order in but the hostess was helping out throughout the restaurant and brought us the wine. JUNCTION IS ABSOLUTELY STUNNING. The outdoor seating is SUCH a vibe. They have about 8ish tables along the railroad that I think is not in use. It's very "lowkey" and charming. Perfectly decorated for photo ops. The sangria is to die for. I wish I could take a pitcher home but it's probably best that I don't because being deprived of such a beautiful taste is a crime. I really enjoyed the Pallela. It does take about 30mins to make so I suggest ordering as soon as you get seated to avoid it being delayed. We went on a Thursday night and it turned out every 1st and 3rd Thursday is "meet the Winemaker" night where a winery and it's owner and/or winemaker is in attendance and you can get a flight of their wine with a suggested pairing of a restaurant's dish. This is such a great restaurant. First, it's tapas...great way to try a lot of very good food. Second, what a delight to talk with the winemaker and/or owner. So intimate, unlike those over-popular wineries where you'll NEVER get that access. Lastly, the venue location is warm, great vibe, great service, plenty of parking. YUM! I was so happy to get in here without a reservation on a Saturday night as I had came across it while planning a trip to Paso, and I enjoyed our meal here. I'm a big fan of tapas, and always like having a few different small plates for a meal. The service was very good, as was the food. Too many things on the menu sounded good, but we opted for the Tortilla Espanola, Patatas Bravas, and Iberico Pork. Everything was delish, and the Iberico was cooked like a steak although it's pork and tasted so great! I am a huge fan of patatas bravas, so of course I enjoyed those, although the sauce here was a bit different with having red sauce than I'm used to. I still very much enjoyed the flavor! I was so tempted to write a horrible review to a prior visit. The experience was not so welcoming and inviting, but this made up for it.... Fast forward to now, made reservations a couple hours prior and got a table. There's a few options that we were able to choose from with seating. They have an outdoor patio as well. Our table wasn't ready when we arrived so we opted for a drink at the bar. By the time we looking at the menu and getting to get a drink, the table was ready. The menu does offer some amazing things. It's tapas so obviously meant for sharing and trying a few dishes. Drink were great as they did have a good selection of item. Some sound amazing but one or two was just like, not. Started off with the empanadas which came 4 to an order, nice. The filling was amazing and the crust was perfectly flakey. Ended up getting two orders. Also the mushrooms with baguette was great. The chorizo was ok with crostini bread. But as we were here, had to go for the paella. The seafood version was are with pasta versus rice. It was good but to be quite honest, I would have rather had it with rice. But quite good though. The outstanding dish was the steak and chimichurri. We never mentioned how we wanted it cooked but when it came out, it was perfect. Paired with the sauce, outstanding . Food was excellent, service was great. It does get busy. We ordered all the classics: patatas bravas, empanadas de puerco, camarones, Wagyu skirt steak. Every dish was vibing its own flavors. There was literally a party in my mouth. Not impressed. I've enjoyed small plate tapas throughout Spain. If you're expecting authentic, Spanish style tapas you will be extremely disappointed. Grilled octopus looked great but was tasteless. Lamb popsicles were presented beautifully, but when you bite into them they were like biting into course ground pepper. Watery and tasteless dressing on the wedge salad. I saw a couple of 2 star reviews on Yelp, but there were so many good reviews that I thought I would still give this place a try. High expectations. Execution, not so good. The place was otherwise busy and other tables seemed to enjoying themselves. Not sure what I was missing. In my opinion it was a total waste of $140. Everyone has different tastes. Maybe we just didn't order the right things on the menu. If you go, hopefully you'll have a better experience. FYI: I just received a response from the owner - which you can read below. We were visiting Paso Robles and happened to be staying a block or so away, so our host, who had visited Junction before highly recommended bringing us here for an early dinner. Quite an interesting place.....located at the PR train station building, I expected this place to be a small hole in the wall type dining spot, but I was so wrong. This place, although not that big, has a nice high ceiling, spacious, clean and casual decor...with a bar. Owned and operated by a husband and wife team, we got to meet both, who remembered our hosts' last visit months ago, were so nice, friendly, and engaged in wonderfully lighthearted banter throughout the evening. Most importantly, everyone was so helpful in explaining the menu and helping us out with our order. The food here is Spanish tapas (small plates to share) style, which I actually quite enjoyed, but have always had difficulty finding a really good tapas restaurant anywhere....until now. We finally decided on the Ensalada de Remolacha Salad, Empanadas of the day, Wagyu Bistec a la Plancha (Wagyu flat iron steak), Pollo al Mojo de Ajo (Grilled chicken), and the Seafood Fideuá (pasta paella). Ok, I will admit that I didn't order any of the dishesas we'd left it to our hosts, and I didn't try the steak and empanada dishes because I don't eat beef....but oh boy, everything I did try was soooooo good! I could actually taste the freshness in each of the ingredients, the flavors of everything worked so well together, all making for an absolutely delicious experience.... and without being too salty either! From this wonderful dinner experience, you can actually see and taste the Chef's love for what he does through his creations of each of the dishes, he knows exactly what he's doing, and he does it all so well. Ate dinner on a ridiculously hot evening and the place was packed! The restaurant was a casual, very toasty warm atmosphere. Started with three cheeses: Mahon 12 month, Manchego and Valdeon. Paired it with the Jamon Iberico. A wonderful board creation. Next, tried the Almejas al Azafran. The clams were large and the broth was delicious. Excellent to dip the bread in. We sat in the sofa area inside. and it was comfortable We were celebrating my daughter's birthday after wine tasting at RiverStar and Eberle. Happy hour starts at 3pm. We had empanadas. It had ground meat inside but side raisins, which I really don't like. But we were very very hungry. We ordered 3 other items. Our olives never showed up. Idk if we were billed for them or not. I didn't see the bill to check and thought if this later. We love olives too. Sad face. It was my birthday weekend, so my friend was digging through the Yelp reviews to find a special place to dine, and he nailed it. This rather finicky group of foodies, all agreed - this hidden gem will be a must each time we come to Paso. It was one of the best culinary experiences we've ever had here. Besides the food, we've never had such excellent, exceptionally warm and thoughtful service thanks to Ingrid. Ingrid was so thoughtful. My boyfriend had announced it was my birthday early in the evening. Ingrid was taking our drink orders, and one of my friends, more of a wine connoisseur than I, suggested getting a bottle of Diablo Paso which he said was very good. I muttered something about wanting sparkling wine / champagne....but went along with the bottle of wine. When Ingrid came back, she did indeed bring the bottle of Diablo Paso, and ALSO brought each of us glasses of an amazing sparkling wine to toast happy birthday. It was so unexpected.... one of many sweet examples through out the evening where Ingrid went above and beyond to make our dining experience so magical. Everything we had was delicious. We first started with the tostadas con champions al Ajillo (sautéed mushrooms, garlic, olive oil and white wine sauce with grilled baguette slices), and the Jason iberico - prized marbled ham with notes of honey and TRUFFLE. The Jason iberico was incredible and a must. We almost got the empanadas, but opted for the patatas bravos - which turned out to be the perfect choice. They are French fried potato wedges with an incredibly delicious spicy red pepper sauce. After the evening, in a happy food coma, our group voted that that dish was our favorite. We got the junction paella, a shareable which my friend really loved as he is a big paella fan. That had Valencia rice, house chicken and saffron bone stock, sofritto, grilled chicken and Spanish chorizo sausage, peas, sweet red peppers and rosemary. We were divided as to our second favorite dish - but for me it definitely was the wagyu bistec a la plancha - charbroiled wagyu flat iron steak with an incredibly delicious salad of grilled onions, tomatoes, and a chimichurri vinaigrette. The meat was perfectly cooked. Juicy. The salad was simple but so delicious. What really made the dish for me was the chimichurri sauce. Omg it was so good! I JUST LOVED THE CHIMICHURRI sauce, and if they sold it, I would have bought jars of it! We were totally stuffed and felt that eating any more was an impossibility ... However, that Ingrid came out with another surprise - an amazing ice cream sundae with homemade whipped cream and chocolate sauce with a candle for me. Then came the chimichurri -- the best I've ever had in my life, and we've had a lot of it over the years on expertly cooked meats. Bright, tangy, fresh and perfectly balanced. This dish lacked the intense flavors and punch I was expecting. * Pollo a Mojo de Ajo - Roasted chicken thigh with an herb citrus garlic sauce, and a side of Cuban rice & beans. This one hit it out of the park. This place is a cute intimate restaurant that was suggested by our uber driver. The service was so good that the chefs wife gave us a glass of wine in the house. The food was fantastic and I have to say it was the first time we ever ordered something twice because we couldn't get enough of it. The paella was delicious but the spanish oxtail was out of this world, so tender and mouthwatering. I still think about that oxtail from time to time.
