This was my first visit here. The staff was friendly and attentive. The food however was lacking. I ordered the baby back ribs with sides of corn bread and French fries. Ribs: not meaty at all what was there was not tender. The sauce was fine. Fries: I was told they cut the fries fresh themselves. That's believable however I don't think they were cooked to order. A bit soggy. Corn bread: was more like corn cake. I like cornbread with some texture. My friend had the ribs too with sides of corn and Cole slaw. Apparently those sides were pretty good. I recently visited The Rib House in East Haven and had a bit of a mixed experience. First, I want to say that our server Jessica was very pleasant and attentive, and the service overall was great. The drinks were also pretty good. I'd give them about an 8 out of 10, so no complaints there. Where things became frustrating was with the Build Your Own burger pricing. The base burger (1/2 lb charbroiled beef) was $14.95, which seemed reasonable at first. However, I was surprised to see how quickly the price climbed once a few basic toppings were added. Here's how the burger ended up breaking down: Base burger: $14.95 Bacon: $6.00 Fried egg: $4.00 American cheese: $1.95 Mayo: $1.00 That brought the burger to $27.90 before tax, which is nearly double the base price for what most people would consider a fairly standard bacon, egg, and cheese burger. I understand charging for add-ons, but $6 for bacon and $4 for a fried egg feels excessive, and it was surprising to see the cost climb that high so quickly. Overall, the service was great and the drinks were solid, but the burger pricing left me pretty disappointed. Last night I got roped into going to The Rib House in East Haven. This isn't the type of food that'll make me stuff my face, but I'm sure for plenty of others that's exactly what they come here for. My brother has been here plenty of times, he claims they're the best ribs he's ever had. We went inside, and immediately got seated. He ordered a large serving of ribs with fries and corn on the side. When I say large, I mean it was extra large. Please don't wear your best white shirt when dining here, these ribs are slathered in a ton of juicy sauce, there's no classy way of eating them. Thank goodness for the wet wipes they provide. If I arrived hungry, there are some tasty looking options I'd consider getting off their menu. I did get their virgin Espresso Martini, which is called the Early Riser. I'm typically not into virgin cocktails, but on this day I was on a prescription. Considering there was no alcohol in this mocktail, it was pretty good, and rich in caffeine. If you're into ribs, and large servings of juicy ribs that slide off the bone, you'll probably enjoy them at The Rib House. read more

The Rib House was a perfect place to satisfy our BBQ craving during the wintertime! As soon as you walk in, you're greeted with the smell of their delicious cooking. We were really big fans of their baby back style ribs, pulled pork Mac, and steak and cheese eggrolls. They've been making the same homemade recipes for 30+ years and I hope they never change a thing! What an East Haven gem. Even the cheesecake was homemade and so fluffy. She needs serious retraining in hygiene and food service. We went to the rib house yesterday and for those of us that really enjoy our BBQ I was very disappointed. The appetizer, pork egg rolls, were good but the ribs and brisket were covered in BBQ sauce. I want to taste the meat and smoke, not sauce. The ribs were cooked well but the sauce was way too much, the brisket, that was way overcooked and very dry. If you like items covered in sauce, you might like this, if you like BBQ where you taste the meat, make sure you skip the heavy sauce on everything. We love the town of East Haven and now there's a little bit more love to spread after taking out their bronto beef ribs. I said Bronto as in massive. An order included 7 ribs with two sides. For barbecue I've got to select cole slaw an corn bread. The sides were no big deal, a smallish square of corn bread and small container of coleslaw. I wasn't a fan of the cole slaw but my GOD those damn ribs. I couldn't wait to enter our cottage so grabbed one and starting eating it before we got inside. My husband thought he was funny and took a snapshot of me eating it on the patio. It's all over my face but hey we were home not at the restaurant so feast away. They put a lot of bbq sauce on the ribs so maybe next time I'll ask them to go light or put it on the side. They were doing a large take out business while we were there. I ordered baby back ribs and they came out burnt and dried out. I told the waitress about it and she says well I don't know what to do for you, but I'll see what he says! What the heck kind of response is that told her how we've been going there for over 25 years at the old location before they where they are now and they didn't care, brought me out a second batch of ribs and they were just as bad as the first attitude was that's the best that they can do,guess what they lost my business and I wouldn't recommend anybody go there. Everything was amazing! The app, the entree.. service was top notch. Could use some more lighting, the restaurant lights setting we kinda dark. Over all I really enjoyed this restaurant. I drove pass this place several times, but just tried it a few days ago with my family. Everyone loved the food. My wife got the strawberry salad, and she really enjoyed it. Was a long time patron of The Rib House but las 2 times VERY disappointed. This last time we went WILL BE OUR LAST. First the corn bread had no corn flavor, just a mix that tasted like yellow cake snd was served cold! literally out if the fridge. i gyess thats why they didnt also bring out any butter. Ribs were abut dry and not meaty, chicken (1/2??) was a small chicken thus way smaller portion. And on top of that the chicken seemed to be the rotisserie chicken with a " wierd strange red glutinous sauce that i guess they use as a bbq sauce? Very poor quality. Won't be back. When I grew up there were two great places to get great tasting ribs, the Amber in North Haven, and the Rib House in East Haven. The Amber closed, leaving only the Rib House to keep cranking out these awesome, great tasting, substantial ribs that you can really sink your teeth into. My Son and I had a late lunch at the Rib House yesterday and I got to tell you we were pleasantly surprised. Our server "Mary" was great, fast, friendly, and very accommodating. When she saw I didn't like the coffee, she brought me an expresso.. no charge for the coffee The corn bread is the best I've ever had. The ribs and my philly steak were great also. I am going middle of the road here only because I have been going to this place for decades and the ribs are usually delish. Tonight's ribs must have been last nights ribs, disappointed, the ribs were dry, not very warm and lackluster. Mentioned to server she apologized but you could tell she could care less, idk maybe she thought I wanted a freebie or something. Considering the majority of the ribs remained uneaten on my plate I def wasn't looking for anything free, I just wasn't choking them down and wanted them to know about the poor quality. Then put us on hold again, then someone would answer and start over or continue the order idk it was just a hot mess. But, for pick up? We decided to give The Rib House a try after a suggestion from a neighbor. The food was flavorful, juicy, and cooked perfectly. My husband ordered the ribs, which fell off the bone. Came last night for dinner with my boyfriend. Had to wait maybe 10 minutes for a table. From the inside, it could have been 1992. Noticed they have a booming "take out" business. I think there were more brown to go bags of pick up orders coming out of the kitchen then there were plated dinners. Rib House is the place to go for always consistent ribs. Baby Back ones, get those. Also you can't go wrong with a half carafe of wine either. There's a small dining room area and a separate lounge/bar side too. Bought a Rib house gift card that STILL has a balance and expires December 12, 2038 for my elderly aunt and uncle as part of their Christmas present .They weren't able to use it for a while due to illnesses, surgeries and COVID. Since it didn't expire until 2038, they were happy when it became time they could enjoy a rib dinner out (they LOVE ribs ) and would only have to pay for whatever the balance was AFTER the gift card. But come to our surprise, when checking out, giving the waitress the gift card and the balance due in cash and leaving a tip on the table....the restaurant would NOT accept the gift card due to they're NEW owners! Talk about being upset especially when they are on a tight budget! if they closed and reopened under another name it would be understandable. The gift card has the same name,address and telephone of the restaurant as it is today. How are we able to know they are new owners? Why, at the time of sale,wasn't the gift card balances worked into the sale price? If i was the new owner, i would honor the card and expect a return customer. But not even a portion of gift card was accepted. We enjoyed the dinner but will not be returning due to this bad customer service. read more

Got some take-out from here and thought everything was really solid. The St Louis style ribs are not my favorite cut, but they were still flavorful and came off the bone easily but with a slight bit of resistance, as it should be. The baby back ribs were sensational and I would definitely order these without hesitation again. The onion ring loaf is fucking huge, and could easily feed 6 people. If there's 4 or less of you, I say go with a half-loaf, even though it will be tempting to get the full for like $1.50 more. The total should have been $40 plus for both meals The manager comes over with the bill and says I took the chicken off and the bill was still $35.00 !!!!!!!!! Placed a large catering order for a work celebration. The customer service was above and beyond what we normally receive, and the food everyone loved! The platers were ready right when they said it would be and they stayed in close contact during the whole process. I am overly impressed with the service and the food was delicious.
