Second time into this cute, neighborhood spot. Went on Friday (8/16). A few, very positive notes: 1) The burger was really good, as was the meat hand pie. Food menu and cocktail menu are tight yet varied and really highlight that this is an elevated neighborhood bar. 2) Decor is super cute. Outside tables (on the side street) had a dive bar vibe at first but then you walk inside to see that it's actually a gorgeous space. And the patio out back is PHENOMENAL. Back patio is maybe best outdoor space in SE Portland. 3) Magnificent staff. Bartender was Caitlyn (I think? I'm so bad with names, sorry). I haven't had a friendlier, more bubbly bartender in all my life. Definitely not in this city. There was even a woman who was being super rude and condescending about getting IDed while I was there (her and her friends looked 19-22ish, didn't understand her gripe) and Caitlyn handled it with poise and grace. The guest/lady was genuinely awful. I can never understand how servers and bartenders take that sort of treatment. They deserve better! 4) Surprisingly impressive whiskey selection for a neighborhood bar. Not huge but certainly curated. I didn't get anything fancy but it's nice to know the options are there!! Overall: If I lived closer this would probably be my every week haunt. This is a good neighborhood bar where you can be comfortable and cozy and not spend a lot of money if you don't want, but if you want to throw the pinky up and get a bit bougie you have plenty of cocktail and spirit options with an aesthetic that is kind to the eyes. 10/10, would recommend, and will return! read more

I love their back patio. The staff are average Portland, straight forward bartenders. Not overly nice, not overly rude, just existing. For a bar, the food is actually pretty good. I recommend the poutine or the fries. Solid local option. read more

Mac & cheese outstanding! Tap orange hard seltzer was delish. The bartender was fine until I asked a question about the etiquette of asking to change the music. He got all snarky & rude, asking what you don't like hip hop? I said its fine but switched up with other stuff is better. He sez, I pick a station & roll. You want hard hiphop? How about louder?! He got all red faced... I repeated, this wasn't a personal question. I just asked about the etiquette of asking. He killed this place for me sadly. On a lark we thought we'd try the Richmond. We got a table outside and ordered a beer. Very tasty IPA. Off to a good start. We ordered fries for the table. They were generous and cut on the thin side and crispy. You can't go wrong with a good fry! One of the group ordered their hamburger - so delish! My husband had the meat hand pie and reported it to be satisfying and really good. My son had the lamb meatball sandwich and it was so good he would not share. The reason for the three instead of four stars is that they will not add a protein to a salad. Who doesn't do that?! I had the House salad. As a salad, it was ok. Nothing to write home about. We arrived to this bar over an hour before closing and were greeted with some of the most horrendous service I've ever received in my life. A curly brunette femme bartender was rude from our first purchase interaction, and it only got worse from there. Off putting and making strange comments about purchases, etc. By 11:20 (this establishment closes at 12) the same bartender began to turn on and off the music as well as flicker the lights on and off. She stood on the bar top and began to yell aggressively about how she wanted to go home and how people needed to get the f*** out. As this began to happen my friends and I started to feel a little uncomfortable, she continued to yell and change the lighting/music, causing many patrons to leave. Then she started to clear tables loudly and blow out candles in an over exaggerated manner. She began dancing and singing about wanting to go home again and we finally decided to leave early instead of buying another drink because being outside in the cold was more pleasant than being near this character. Felt incredibly unwelcome and will not be coming back. Too bad because other staff seemed nice although the tapenade and bread I had was underwhelming at best. read more

Long time burger eater, first time visitor. Look at this thing!!! Good as it looks, crispy fries and Portland ketchup... great little chips and I even scarfed the pickled bits. Some tomato thing at the bottom of this perfect burger that gave a balanced tang but not sloppy. Perfect hand food... I'd eat one daily I think. Tl;dr: Come here to eat and drink. That's it. That's all the information you need from this review. DO IT. I have friends/family in every area of the restaurant industry and therefore hold their opinions on restaurants/bars very high. I ask them where I should eat and drink and they usually give me a whole thing on "well it depends on..." blah blah. One day I let them choose dinner and we decided to try a place that was new for all of us. It was okay, but the lingering question of the night was: where are we going to go afterwards? Unanimously, the answer was their favorite go-to bar with great drinks and great snacks (since we were still hungry): The Richmond Bar. It was a relatively busy Friday night, so we had to wait for a little when we first walked in. Someone came around while we were in line and assigned us seats. There were seats open in the front but luckily we were able to get a seat in the back patio which is a very intimate area and perfect for ending the night with conversation. When we got to the bar to order we knew that we wanted fries, and we knew that we wanted great drinks. My cousin trained with one of the bartenders here, Peter (the best bartender on Division), so it was a given that I would ask him for a drink because everything he makes is great. While Peter got to making our drinks, we also ordered a side of fries AND a side of poutine. Why both? Because we were hungry!!! The drinks we got were great! Do yourself a favor and have Peter make you a drink-- whether it be from the menu, or a drink of his own making. The fries were shoestring so already that's a win in my book, and the poutine was *chef's kiss*. The gravy was perfect in flavor and came with large pieces of browned meat so you know that they are making their gravy from scratch. Throw that on some shoestring fries and cheese curds? Heaven. Shoutout to the Canadians for this dish. We closed the place down and made sure to tip well. These people know how to do it right. read more

I have never been treated so poorly by a bartender in my entire life. Whoever the femme bartender was that was working on 6/21 was incredibly rude to my friends and me. Our drinks were rang up incorrectly and she became incredibly confrontational, demanding to know why that should "be her problem". She also made racist remarks about my friends that I would rather not repeat. The rest of the bar is great but I would rather not return if she is still there. It would have made our whole experience better if not for this one bartender. read more

This was the worst experience at a bar I have ever had. My friends and I arrived an hour before closing and the brown-haired femme bartender was rude to us when we ordered upon our arrival. Twenty minutes into our stay, with forty minutes left until closing, the same bartender began to yell "It's closing time, I want to go home" and stood up and danced suggestively on the bar top. It seemed very inappropriate given the atmosphere of the bar and other customers seemed quite confused. She then noticeably turned the music up and down several times and dimmed and brightened the lights, all of which felt aggressive. A few minutes later she skipped around the tables yelling "I want to go home, people need to get the f*** out" and slamming items around. My friends and I were uncomfortable and confused and shared looks of confusion with patrons around us. We left shortly after and sadly would have stayed longer and ordered more drinks but the bar lost out on our money. The whole experience was extremely bizarre and I will not be coming back. read more

This is a great place to stop and grab a cocktail! It's quaint and romantic and seems like a really great neighborhood bar. I've given a fair amount of yelp reviews, and I almost never give 3 stars or lower. This place has decent food and drinks, that's why I didn't rate it lower. The service is the problem. I get it. We're 40. We brought our (well behaved) 9 and 11 year old children with us. We're not hipster-cool. But seriously?? The woman who brought us our food was borderline rude the whole stay. AND THEN... as we were leaving I heard her say "26 minutes, y'all." It just so happens that it was 8:34... 26 minutes before kids aren't allowed in. Based on the rest of the evening- I'm certain that is exactly what she meant by her comment. So bottom line- unless you are 24, COOL AF, and don't care about how people are treated, I would choose a different spot. Just my two cents. read more

Not sure why I haven't stopped by here after visiting this part of Division often in years past. Such a solid bar. The decor upon entry was inviting. Has a modern/antique vibe to it. The bar is manned by two bartenders (at least when the lady I visited) and the cocktails they put out are great. I had their boulevardier and it was delicious. The lady got a whiskey sour and they go the extra "shake" for that "spot" on taste. It was one of the better sours that I've tasted. We went round for 2 while there but I opted for a sazerac this time just to try out their version. It was solid as well. Definitely a nice bar and the bartenders are nice. Went here last night for a casual valentines day with my Fiance and we were pleasantly surprised! We walked in and the place was dark-lit with slightly loud music, which is kind of our scene, and the bartender was friendly and informative about the beers and whiskeys I was interested in (both bartenders were great actually). I got the beer and whiskey combo which was the "Big Winter" and Four Roses Single Barrel, I am glad I only got 5 oz of the beer because it was tasty but super rich.. the combo was a great measurement of each. As for the food, we got the Mac N Cheese, Chop Salad, and Tapenade. All 3 were great! The salad was definitely our favorite as the sliced meats and egg were great quality, and the Mac N Cheese was made with a really good sharper white cheddar that made it super flavorful. The tapenade was pretty simple and basic but if you like olives you'll enjoy it! Overall this was a great experience and I am sure we will be back from time to time. read more

I just straight-up like this place. I made Matchstick (the bar it was before The Richmond) my go-to spot when I lived here before. The cool vibe has remained, the staff friendly, the food stuffs delicious, and the patrons friendly and engaging. Probably the only thing that keeps me from giving this place a 5er is the lack of wine options. Plus, when I got there and asked for the sauv blanc, they didn't have any left. And only had two glasses of Chardonnay (not my fav.) The Richmond Bar replaces the Matchbox. They graciously hosted a Portland Cocktail Festival event. Richmond is there with upgraded but reasonably priced food and a well curated regional tap list + one from Germany. Richmond has a full bar and a great individualistic craft cocktail list. Although the odd front door is still there, imagining Spain, the inside is clean and comfortable. Several picnic tables outside on Division and 32nd. I like this little bar more than just a little. And honestly, it's not as little as it once was, now that there's an awesome patio out back. I've been here a couple of times now, and enjoy everything from the chill ambiance to the plentiful outdoor seating to the tasty drinks to the solid service. I've only really focused on the cocktails here, and they're good. The Strong Waters is my jam - a brown, bitter and stirred number that goes down like a version of a Manhattan. The couple of other drinks I've tried are tasty too. And they have some beers, some wines, etc. Also food. Bar food. It looks tasty. Besides it being extremely dark inside, it was a pretty cool little joint. My friends ordered salads; the classic wedge (with ranch instead of bleu cheese) and the London Carpachio. I just got a beer that was on special. It wasn't crowded, but I can see that it could become so on a weekend night. Regardless, the service was good and we enjoyed our time here. This place is pretty non-descript, but there's something very cool about it. I'm just thrilled that my neighborhood has been revamped and places like this have popped up. Cute little bar /restaurant that is open late and serves amazing food. Stopped in at around 1 am hungry AF. Ordered a beer, some fries and a meat pie (which only ran me about 12$ pre tip.. score). The beer was cold , and the fries.. well it was more of a mountain of fries, were hot & crispy, and you could tell they were fresh. The meat pie was also huge and full of flavor. They make their own ketchup and a spicy horseradish sauce. I left with a full tummy ready to pass out. Perfect way to end my Portland eating spree. read more
