Three is us went to smoke cigars across the street at Jeff Ruby's Steakhouse on their outdoor patio but they were closed/closing. They opened the door and sold us some cigars and pointed us here to The Righteous Room to smoke. They told us to walk straight through the bar and smoke in the back outside courtyard. We would never have found this on our own! Great outdoor back area for smoking. Very edgy and stark. You could be in NYC. Inside the bar itself, the vibe was positive. It was crowded and hopping. Had such a great time Saturday night (second stop of five). The back outdoor space was my favorite part, including the DJ (mix of 90's, hip hop and pop) and handsome bartenders. It's nice that it's open air so it's comfortable and not stuffy as it gets crowded later in the night. There are a few couches and a dance floor in the back. The front is a lounge like bar area. Great spot to hang with friends and meet new people. Cocktail prices are decent. This was my second visit, which was a lot better than my original experience six months ago when there were only a handful of people there on a Saturday night, so we didn't stay long. Very cool atmosphere. I love, love, love the back "room" which is really an outside area between the backs of two buildings, that has been converted into a lounge-sort of area. The variety of beer isn't amazing, but by the bottle you can definitely find something you like. I was there on a Saturday night around 10pm, and it was not too busy, but filled up quickly. The music they play is truly great, but the DJ wasn't really my style once he started. There were also several Bachelorette parties so that was a bummer. Have you been to Lackman? This is pretty much the same bar, with the same owners, and basically the same set up in a slightly different location. If you haven't already, you should read my review of the Lackman. I think I'll just copy/paste the rest of the info for this review and totally mail it in. Seriously though, if you can get past the shotgun setup you'll discover a cool little dancing patio in the back. You can't really dance to the music being played, but you can at least breathe out there (which is a plus)! I've had one kind of bad experience at this bar. I asked the bartender to make a mint julep for a date and he actually complained about it right to my face (complain about it behind my back when you're on your smoke break, buddy). I know it's not the easiest drink in the world to make and it is time consuming, but come on, you're a bartender, get your act together. I'm not normally one to complain or make a big stink when I don't get my way, but I totally snapped back at this guy. He begrudgingly got my drink. Big fan of this place. It is very cozy. The space isn't large and the lights are dimmed. Solid mix of beer and cocktail options. I found out about this place from my High School 10 year reunion. The inside bar seems a little small, not having a lot of maneuverability, esp. on a weekend night (takes a long time to get drinks too). What I really liked was the back bar area with the music. It's unlike most other bars, where their back bar is inside. It is completely outside, having three buildings as it's walls. So on a hot summer and spring night, its prefect to party and dance instead of getting sweaty with a inside back bar! The only big negatives that I had was service time, the fact that the drinks are watered down and a little expensive ($8 for a rum and coke! I know its a classy bar, but that ridiculous). Would totally be a 1 star review, but it does get style points for decor and the patio and that it's part of the 3EG family and I like pretty much all of their establishments. Do not, I repeat, DO NOT go here on a Friday or Saturday night. If you do, at least get out of there prior to peak "bar time". Saturday night I was sardined up against the bar for probably 15 minutes until I was actually even able to turn around. I was pushed up against the bar so much that I literally could not turn around to talk to my friends. Not that it would have mattered, as they wouldn't have been able to hear me anyway. I took a video of the melee as it reminded me of stories from The Who's General Admission debacle. Nuts to butts is not anything I need to be with my friends. The Righteous Room is a cool place to meet up with friends for a drink or two. It can get quite crowded but the patio is a good area to escape to, assuming it's not packed also. The patio is spacious with comfortable couches but can sometimes be smoky (yuck). I do get annoyed when they have bathroom attendants, even though they are very friendly. I know they are trying to make a living but I just don't like people in the bathroom. I'm aware that I'm being weird and paranoid but it makes me uncomfortable. The bartenders are generally nice, even though they are busy. The best part of The Righteous Room is that there is no cover! The Righteous Room is a bar I wish I would get out to more often. First off, it's one of the more luxurious bar type atmospheres in Cincy, Dim lit. Romantic. Bar top tables, cozy booths. What I love about the Righteous Room is the crowd is more young professionals, or a little bit older. The best time to come here is happy hour....prices on drinks are amazing! Depending on the time of day you go you will get a different feel. We have been to both happy hour and late (after 10). During happy hour the traffic is pretty light so if you are looking for a quite low key place to have a drink this is the place to come. After 10 the place seemed to be packed. It was still nice to have a drink but definitely a different atmosphere. I enjoyed my experience at The Righteous Room! The ambiance is dim lit and romantic. There are booths, bar seats, and bar top tables. It is very narrow, so I imagine it gets crowded later in the evening. I went earlier and it was somewhat busy with all of the tables/seats taken, but it was not crowded. The people there were a bit classier than some of the other bars, but again that might have been because it was earlier in the night. Their happy hour is an awesome deal! This is a classy place to grab a drink and super impressive to meet friends at, they'll think you are a high roller (without breaking the bank). I have been here several times, afternoon and late night, and have always had a fantastic time. I love the back patio in the summer under the stars which is covered in the winter to still be able to utilize the space. TIPS: Happy Hour is half off EVERY DRINK in the menu. EVERY ONE!!! I was recently tasked with taking an out of town client to downtown Cincinnati in the middle of the week. We hit up two places before making the Righteous Room our third, and final, destination. Immediately I was taken aback by how chill and laid back the atmosphere was, especially considering how many people were there. And this was a Wednesday night mind you. The liquor selection was solid and the bartenders seemed pretty cool, so I've got no complaints there. The music selection earned a big thumbs up from me though. I heard songs that I never expected to hear in a bar in the heart of downtown Cincinnati. The only thing I'll ding this place for is the price. I was drinking doubles of Woodford Reserve which were costing me about $12 a pop. Woodford Reserve isn't exactly a cheap bourbon, but that's a bit pricey for my tastes. Despite the hefty price tag, I would definitely recommend checking this place out. Neither I nor the client really remember leaving the bar, my phone was destroyed at some point in time on the way back, and we were both late for work the next day. Love this bar! Must go to when you're in Central Downtown. The decor is well done and simple and to the point. Drinks are great and the bartenders are fast. Happy Hours here are amazing! Half OFF! what!? The only reason I took one star off is because if you come after 10pm its very very crowded (I know its not the bartenders fault or the owners, but can be annoying when you want to get a drink with out having to shove your way to the bar.) I can't believe I haven't written a review for this place yet. I used to come here all the time, and still do occasionally. Righteous Room is basically a club style bar/lounge. You basically have dark lighting, stylish interior, and loud music on weekend nights, but not dancing. The place has been around for a while, and is still regularly packed. The building is long and narrow, so it can get a little cramped, but you might be able to find some relief on the back patio. The back patio is awesome, it's a decent sized space with it's own bar, and is surrounded by buildings on all sides. There are couches and coffee tables along the walls, making it a cool place to just come hang out. The best thing is that they have a giant clear plastic roof they enclose the entire area with during the winter. Righteous Room has a pretty good selection of alcohol. It seems like 4EG bars in general have a strong commitment to making good drinks, and having a quality draft selection. The best time to come is earlier in the evening. They don't have food, but the place isn't crowded, and they have one of the best happy hours in the city. read more

I came here because it was next to my hotel. It was a weeknight so we were just lookign for a night cap and this was open til late. A few things - it is dim and nice. It almost has a bougie feel to it. I was a little disappointed when I asked one of the bartenders about the beer and whether it was local/OH beeer (I was visiting), and she had told me No. It was the only IPA on tap so I asked her for it anyway. It was phenomenal. i googled it and what do you know, Fat Head's based in Ohio... haha. I then had an old fashioned. I kid you not, I literally saw the guy pour a shit ton of sugar in my drink. I had a great Sunday night at The Righteous Room! I came in late night on a Sunday while vacationing in Cincinnati. I loved the atmosphere in here. I liked that it was classy but not stuffy and that there was a good selection of beer, wine, and craft cocktails. I opted for a cocktail (I don't remember exactly what it was, but it had blueberries and was DELICIOUS) and then switched to beer. The bartender was very attentive and we had a really nice night. New place from the mini-empire that is the pavilion, the stand, keystone bar & grill, aliveone and the sandbar. These guys know how to put together an upscale, but still relaxed place. The decor skews a bit older and classier than the other joints and the clientele reflects it. The back courtyard is an awesome touch. I love the windows out front that open up to the city street and the inside is the perfect size for a city bar. Emphasis is on the word bar. Intimate would be a good descriptor. I love coming here for a laid-back happy hour--either with a group of folks or just a friend or two. They ALWAYS have a drink special going on (to the point that it's too good to be true), and the bar itself has a very relaxing vibe with the dim lights and lounge seating. There is patio seating out front, seating indoors, and then an outdoor lounge area in the back (my fave!). Sometimes they can get pretty busy and, even with all of that seating, it can be tricky to find enough space to comfortably sit. They have a pretty extensive drinks menu with the basics and some inventive cocktails! I often see the same bartenders and they are very nice and welcoming every time. I have to admit that my exposure to The Righteous Room is rather limited. I have not been there during the times that others describe as a "mad crush", when the younger and prettier crowd come out to haunt the downtown bars. My experiences have been all pre-theatre, partaking of the Happy Hour specials before heading across the street to the Aronoff for an evening of theatrical entertainment. So, with that in mind.... It's shotgun style - narrow with a dark bar on the right, and a group of tables in front, back and along the left wall. During Happy Hour, which runs from 4:00 until 8:00, Monday through Friday, all drinks are half off. Not just some, but all of them. That means a pint of Guinness Draft is only around $2.50 or so. For any bar, that's amazing. For a downtown bar, that's incredible. Consume Guinness at home and it's almost $2.00 per pint. They don't serve food, but that's really not a problem being downtown and within walking distance to most anything you would want. Their draft and craft beer list is pretty impressive, and there is always something new to try. The spirits selection is good, too, with lots of top and mid-shelf liquors to choose from. The specialty drinks are pretty standard, but, from what I've seen, and by sitting at the bar, I can tell you the bartenders are not shy when it comes to the pour. The atmosphere itself is dark, dim, romantic, and often a little loud. It's the "sleeve rolled up, tie loosened" type of crowd that permeate the downtown bars after work. It's not intimidating for anyone, young or old, although it trends towards the 20-somethings. During Happy Hour, there are Plenty of "after work" groups there, and by 8:00, many of them have been sipping (or guzzling) their adult beverages for hours. I've yet to see anyone loud or obnoxious, even when it has been pretty crowded. The bar staff, both male and female, often look like they are ready to leap into a photo shoot of Cincinnati's Hottest Servers at any moment. I have yet to see an unattractive server working the wood. Overall, they seem to be pretty knowledgeable, a problem one often sees when dealing with younger staff. While you are there, be sure to check out the back bar. It is pretty impressive. Some very beautiful glass and light in that magnificent piece. This place looks like it goes back a ways, and it's an interesting part of the local downtown history. So if you're looking for someplace to drink on the cheap after your workday, before the show, or if you just wish to mingle with the pretty people, this may be the place to go. read more

Love this place! Drinks are comparably priced to surrounding area. The best part of this place is the atmosphere. Out front, there is a seating area to watch all the goings on. Inside is music, dim lighting, and cozy seating for small parties or a date night. The rear is an enclosed patio that centers the block, allowing the natural light in during the day and dim lighting at night. Small or large parties, local or visitor, this is a great place to meet new people, have conversation, and just relax. Decor: Love, love, love it! Righteous Room has a lovely bar and a really neat patio area. The artwork rocks. It's lovely enough to bump the rating to 4 stars. Drinks: Great prices if you make it for happy hour. Not so great when you show up for a drink past 11 pm and it is $6 for a vodka tonic. Ambiance: If you like being jam packed and have some drunk girl butt bump you constantly while you chat at the bar, by all means, show up after 6 or 7. You then can yell over the rest of the crowd. Not the best if you want to actually be able to talk to people. I am more of the laid back drinks type, so liked it much better earlier in the evening before the crowd. Normally I would never go in The Righteous Room but as we were passing by last Wednesday the sign out side said "Whiskey Wednesdays" HELL YES!!! I was still reluctant to go in as I really haven't heard much good about the place but on this Whiskey Wednesdays sign there was mention of $4 whiskey cocktails......OK got me. All whiskeys were $1 off and they had 1 whiskey that was $4. Not too bad. We skim through the menu looking for the whiskey cocktails. Where are they? Search again, still can't find them. They have 1 drink on the menu made with whiskey, the maple old fashioned. We ask the bartender, where's the whiskey cocktails. I was thinking that they had some special designed cocktails for Whiskey Wednesday. Nope, it's just the $1 off and $4 special. That's disappointing. The whiskey cocktails would just be a whiskey and coke or something simple like that. I hope the bartender is better than what she appeared to us. She was in the bathroom when we walked in so we had to wait for a couple of minutes to get served, no big deal but there was no apology for our wait. We decided to try the maple old fashioned with their $4 whiskey. I would think that being a bartender in an upscale bar downtown you would be required to know how to make the drinks on the menu. She had to refer to the menu several times while making our drinks. Another little disturbing thing was that she smelled the ingredients to our drinks. Making sure they were still good? Making sure labels hadn't been switched? She can't read and bar-tends by smell? The experience wasn't horrible, but this is not a place that I need to return to. read more

This bars is in a prime location in downtown Cincinnati. Its a short walk from all of the corporate buildings so its ideal for happy hour. Downtown drinking isn't always cheap but from 4 to 8pm prices are ideal since most drinks are half off. As a downtown resident and worker I gravitate here a lot. I've never had any issues either. And when, I say really packed I'm talking sardines in a can packed which is nice if you are into frotteurism but for people who do not suffer from that particular paraphilia its not ideal.
