The Righteous Room is a great 'starting point' if you're spending the night downtown. There's no cover so I've used it several time as a meeting place for my friends and I to plan our night. It's actually very beautiful inside, albeit small. It's right across the street from the Aronoff Center so it can get really crowded really fast. There's a large patio in the back that is great to hang out it, even in the winter I didn't find it too cold. The place does have downtown prices, obviously. There are a couple bars where you have to pay for ambiance. This one is not worth it. Also, don't try to go to the bathroom there if you've been drinking a bit too much. The steps are steep and you'll hurt yourself. It didn't happen to me.. it was my 'friend'. read more

This bars is in a prime location in downtown Cincinnati. Its a short walk from all of the corporate buildings so its ideal for happy hour. Downtown drinking isn't always cheap but from 4 to 8pm prices are ideal since most drinks are half off. As a downtown resident and worker I gravitate here a lot. I've never had any issues either. Very cool spot with great beer options both on draft and bottle. I can't speak to Friday/Saturday nights, have only been here on Thursdays, but it is a very cool chill spot with a great crowd, really good music (a dj this time, quality indie mostly), and quality beers. A very metropolitan & diverse crowd fills the venue (definitely a bit of a bottleneck in spots), including the patio out back which is covered and heated during cold months (check it out). Sports often play on 2 plasma TVs, but never a point of focus. Solid booth and seating options for smaller groups, would not recommend taking a larger group here, but for a few people this is a winner. Righteous Room is my go-to weeknight happy hour. As with most bars, the vibe is different at different times of day and on weeknights vs. weekends. I agree with other reviewers that the regular prices are a bit steep for this city, but the happy hour is truly one of the best in town. And it is the only bar I know of in the area that has a Saturday happy hour! This makes it a great place to kick off a Saturday night. I'm normally a beer or wine drinker, but the happy hour prices have encouraged me to try some of the cocktails and I really enjoy one of the bourbon cocktails on the menu. Righteous Room is hands down the best Happy Hour venue in the city. It feels like it belongs in a much more hip city as a plethora of YPs make up most of the space. The ambience is great as well as the decor, and if you get the front table where they open the windows in warmer months, it's the best seat in the house. The best time to get to RR is between 5 and 10 o'clock because after 10, it gets really crowded a very loud. But if that's your thing, then arriving around 11 would be ideal. read more

We rented out the back bar for a private event and it was pretty nice. The room was impressively warm for the middle of winter. Hannah was a wonderful bartender, very friendly and accommodating. The only qualm was that we were unable to hook up our music to the back room's system. One of the main reasons we chose this venue was the ability to control our music in the back room. The manager was very apologetic, and ended up having us plug my phone into the front bar (which meant the entire bar in the front also got to listen to our playlist), but it was honestly pretty annoying to have to leave our party to go to the front bar (and bother the bartenders) to check my phone or change the song. Also when the DJ finally arrived to set up the music booth for the rest of the evening, he was very rude. Ultimately it was a good experience, but the music issue was frustrating since we spent so much money to meet the minimum tab for the private room. read more

The Righteous Room, located south of 7th and Walnut, offers a relatively classy option for a few drinks after work or after a show at the Aronoff. The RR has a very loungey feel, with dim lighting and seating across from the long bar. In the back is apparently a patio, but I've never actually been back there. There are also two tables out front, which is usually wher eI like to sit. The main draw for me at the RR is that it has what may be the best happy hour special in all of downtown/OTR. Every drink (exluding champagne), from 4-8pm, is half off. This makes a pretty darn good selection of craft beers $2-3, wine $3 or so, and other cocktails about the same. You can't beat that combination of quality and price anywhere else near downtown, to my knowledge. The service is generally above average and the bartenders are pretty knowledgeable about what they offer. Why only three stars? One thing, which is not RR's fault, is the clientele. Between the location and the loungey-nish of the place, it fills up with the Young Professional crowd who make me feel very uncomfortable, despite being a 'young professional'. This complaint might be a bit lame and perhaps a little "it's not you, it's me", but it does affect my perception of RR. My second gripe is something that they do have control over. They BLARE their music at least during the happy hour period. I have no idea about later in the evening, but after work it is very, very loud. Like uncomfortably loud. Between these two things, I typically would sit out front at a table when I would go for drinks. Now that the weather has turned, this isn't an option so I probably won't be back until spring. Luckily, the Lackman is now open and more to my liking, so at least the ownership won't be losing revenue. read more

Oh Righteous Room... you are totally rockin and totally what I need after a show at the Aronoff. But that's really all I'd use you for. From what I hear, the happy hour at this place is amazing! But not living right in Downtown, well, ya know. But I stopped here after a show the other night, and it was perfect. It has that classy vibe without shutting out the "normal" people. It was incredibly nice. Had the mood, the lighting, the quiet music, the bar nibbles. It was darn near perfect after getting all dressed up. Unfortunately the prices are all dressed up too. It was $12 for a mixed cocktail in a champagne glass... again sure it's classier than maybe a wine glass, but a chapagne glass does not hold $12 worth of regular so-so not top shelf alcohol. The Righteous room is a cool little joint in downtown Cincy. Surrounded by bigger chain-based or styled restaurants, this narrow little bar has a great decor and equally great beer selection. The bar is comfortable for all types of people until about 10:30 pm where the lights dim even lower, the music volume goes up, the average age drops by about 10 years, and the every nook and cranny of the bar is occupied. The staff was friendly and the regular-time beer prices aren't bad for being downtown ($5). I wasn't there for Happy Hour, but I've heard that it is one of the best in the city where everything is half price! Worth swinging into before a game or as an alternative to Cadillac Ranch, or similar establishments. read more

The Righteous Room is indeed pretty righteous when it's not packed to the gills on a weekend night. This tiny, narrow little bar has a sexy decor and warm, wooden accents, but it's damn near impossible for a party of more than two to really accomplish anything except awkwardly standing around drinking. I'd been for work Happy Hours and did not particularly enjoy the noise level or the lack of personal space, but hitting it up early in the evening pre-ballet (it's right across from the Aronoff) proved to not only be entertaining but also cost-effective: they have pretty excellent Happy Hour drink specials, even on weekend. I feel like the Righteous Room is a good place to start off the evening, but not somewhere you want to end up or experience in the middle of a bar-hopping bender either. read more

The space is certainly Righteous, but Roomy? I disagree. I don't like crowds. I don't like crawling over stranger's laps to move throughout the bar, or hoisting my drink far above my head to navigate through the masses. That's what I encountered here. I'd definitely classify Righteous Room as more of a club environment than that of a lounge bar. My friends and I came here early on the weekend, around 10:00. We secured a booth in the back with our drinks. The liquor selection here is fabulous, with craft cocktails and suggestions from a specialty drink menu. I went with a Mango Mojito, which was delicious. I'd definitely get it again, albeit it being $11.00. I really liked the deep red decor and the candles glowing on the table. Batman was even playing on the television. It was definitely my kind of place, had there been fewer people patronizing it. As 11:00 rolled around, the place became packed like a mosh pit. On our way out, people were standing around in the aisle, not moving as we excused ourselves to the door. It was awkward and mildly annoying. Later I learned that while Righteous Room usually has bar snacks, they stopped serving because too many people were there. Bummer. Lots of patrons are good for business, but it keeps the bar from providing those little extras like personal space and food. And I'm a big fan of both. Some people like OTR, some like Mt. Adams, but I like "downtown." Specifically, I like the area from fountain square to 7th street. There are a lot of bars, clubs, and eateries along the way. Righteous Room is one of those spots. It is the perfect happy hour hangout with co-workers, late night party with friends, or pit stop on your way from one bar to another. Cheap drinks, good vibe, and they are right across the street from the Aronoff Center. The place is pretty narrow and always seems to be crowded, so if you hate tight places, this probably isn't the spot for you. They have an outdoor patio with couches, that would normally be awesome... Except for the fact that it is pretty much a smokers hangout. In my never ending quest to try every happy hour in Cincinnati, I was bound to bump into Righteous Room at some point. We came here after having a few drinks in Fountain Square. It was 7:15 and most HH's end at 7. I thought I remembered RR's HH lasting till 8, so we went to try it out. Their HH is great. I don't know how anyone can complain. 1/2 price everything but wine and champagne. What's not to like? The place is a little tight to navigate and I imagine I'd quickly become annoyed on a Saturday night pulling the 'airplane squeeze-by' every time I needed to use the restroom. During HH, fortunately, that's not an issue. I do wish they served food or had some kind of bar snacks, but that's small potatoes. Some have mentioned that it reminds them of Lackman. I would agree, but I actually preferred Righteous Room because of the outside patio. I'll be back and I have no problem recommending it to others. read more

Righteous Room has two great reasons why I keep coming back: A Top Notch Happy Hour and a Outdoor Patio. Half price all drinks during happy hour. Including fancy beers! I usually only come here to drink at happy hour. The patio is a lot like Arnold's; outdoor in a between the buildings alcove but covered in the winter. Its great. I really am not a big fan of this place. Righteous Room is one of the few bars located right in the center of downtown. The cocktails here are always good. The decor of this place is very warm and charming. And they have this great back area that is half inside and half outside for smokers and it has fabulous ventilation if you are a non smoker. My complaint about this place is the fact that this bar is so completely narrow that it is almost awful! The value of Righteous Room depends on the time you go. If you go at Happy Hour it's one of the best bars in the city. Nice beer selection, nice decor... a winner. If you go later in the evening, though, it's pointless. It's too packed to even walk through. Even if you do make it to the back you have nowhere to go. This wouldn't be terrible if the music wasn't so loud. It's too loud to talk to the people you went with. It's too loud to try to meet someone. And it's too cramped to dance. I will never fathom why bars feel the Friday/Saturday night music needs to be this loud. It makes some sense at Scene next door as Scene has dancing (and even then it's pitifully cramped dancing.) But at Righteous Room all you can do is stare at the people around you, and maybe nod your head as if you understand what someone is saying. Worst place in Cincinnati to meet someone. read more

My friends and I enjoy coming to The Righteous Room on a weekly basis because there are always fun events going on, even on the weeknights. They have one of the best happy hour deals in town and some of the friendliest bartenders. Jackie always greets us with a smile when we walk in and goes out of her way to make sure we are well taken care of. She has an extensive knowledge of beer and cocktails and offers us new things to try that suit our taste. She makes us feel welcome and engages with us. All of the other bartenders have always been extremely friendly and helpful as well. The draught beer list is always updated and the DJ's play the best music, even songs that we request. It is an overall great experience every time we go there. I would highly recommend The Righteous Room as a top bar in town for happy hour and late night drinks! read more

Flew in from Atlanta and headed straight to the RR. This was my first time in the 'Natti and it was pretty decent. Tight squeeze at the main bar but the space out back makes it a pretty good watering hole. Don't fret about the other reviews with mentions about out priced cocktails. They only exist if you like terrible designer cocktails. You can get a decent drink at a decent price. Small draught selection which is disappointing to me but could be cool for others. I don't live in Cincinnati anymore and only found out about the Righteous Room in the visits home since moving away 2+ years ago. Since then, my fiance and I always seem to end up here with our friends when we're at home visiting. First of all, I LOVE the music here. It's not top-40 stuff or cheezy electronic. It's solid indie mixes, funky beats. I love it. The one negative I've found is that it is always packed. While it's great for business, it means sometimes you'll have to wait a while for a drink and it's hard to move around without pushing people around. There is a large patio space out back with another bar. This area is covered so if it's raining, you can still be out back - this is our 'go-to' spot here. Open, fresh air with a bit more move to dance. This bar is a shining spot in the sometimes lacking Cincinnati bar scene. read more

Located near the Aronoff Center, the Righteous Room is very well decorated. Both the furniture and the interior look great. It also served some nice beer on tap (including Bell's porter) when we were there on a Saturday night. The biggest drawback is the smallness of the main room. With the curvature in the bar, the room can become crowded very quickly and make the entire place feel cramped & uncomfortable. Went there last night (10/29/10) and came out disappointed. Have heard great things about this place bit it is just a totally average neighborhood bar. People were ok, but some in the back tending to be more of a hippie / stoner crowd. Very very narrow bar in front, really nothing special at all and the back room was disappointing as well. The only good thing in the back was that you could smoke, but it was just 4 square brick walls with a plastic roof and a little bar with bad music. The heavily bearded DJ with long hair looked like he could have acted in the movie (THe passion of christ)... I guess people do not get out much to different cities these days if they think this place is a cool place! I will not be back and I give this place 6 months. Yikes read more

Stopped here for a drink the night before a Bengals game (Saturday). Very crowded. A tight squeeze. Luckily found two seats at the bar, or else it would have been miserable. Solid, eclectic music spun by a DJ in the back. Everything playing from A Tribe Called Quest to your favorite 80's band. If you are into the new-school, artisinal cocktail scene, then this spot isn't for you. All beer and liquor options are pretty much standard, definitely nothing special. The bartenders were attractive, Amazon-like, BDSM types, who were pretty gruff and seemed only capable of catering to the fast-drinking, Jager-bomb crowd. If I were still in college, or a recent alum from undergrad, I probably would have dug this spot. At this point, though, it doesn't make the grade. Next time I'm in town, I'll pass. read more

The Righteous Room has, what I would say, is one of the best Happy Hours in town. It is a very nice place. Good for a cocktail or a beer. If I had one complaint the area around the bar gets a bit tight when crowded, which bothers me as I am claustrophobic. With that said, I avoid the really busy times here. Very agreeable little bar with an awesome happy hour--50% off everything. (Hard to find fault with Blanton's for $4.25. Buds cost more than that at most downtown pubs!) Cool design that tastefully updates the architectural features of the older building without the rococo extremes and snooty 'tude of Obscura down the street. Nice little patio fronting Walnut Street. Eclectic, well-behaved crowd and a friendly young staff. While getting acquainted with Cincinnati, I stopped in here on a Saturday night primarily because of the happy hour from 4-8pm. The bar was cozy and inviting, with a surprisingly well-stocked selection of top shelf tequila (the real stuff -- not Patron!), bourbons, and scotch. Every single drop of alcohol was included in the happy hour, so I got to have some great drinks for less than $10 each. The bartenders Alan and Rob were welcoming and friendly, without even a tinge of creepiness -- which is always appreciated when I drink solo! I didn't stick around for the DJ sets on the back patio but I definitely enjoyed this spot on the way to dinner and will likely be coming back in the future. read more

I visited Righteous Room last Wednesday during happy hour and was pleasantly surprised by the high quality of the drinks at half price. I tried three different rum cocktails and enjoyed them all. Though downtown was busy that evening (rush hour, an opera across the street at the Aronoff, etc.), there was no wait at the bar and ample seating. I really appreciated the attentive bartenders.
